Lightning Flash not 1200?

Most don’t seem to realize that trait an elementalist can (and will likely always) use with cantrips on their bar. Soothing Disruption in the water line gives lightning flash both a shorter cooldown, and access to Vigor and Regeneration, making it a very potent defensive tool in repositioning and sustain.

This skill doesn’t need to be changed in any manner imo. As durable as a good elementalist is and with their access to nearly every boon in the game they can use LF very easily and to reliably strong effect.

Let’s Talk Scoring…

While I’m all for incentivizing objective play, I think it needs to be done in ways that don’t just artificially inflate the numbers attached to the objectives themselves. It’s kind of a cop out to just make things tick for more and tick more often. This is especially true for the major fortifications such as Keeps, Garrisons, and the back and northern towers on EBG and the Alpine borders respectively. These fortifications are very critical to a servers strategies and mobility on a given map, and they will always have value as far as holding them is concerned. The servers that can’t hold these things will be at a severe disadvantage when paired against servers that dominate a particular timezone or matchup, because if an enemy server can suppress scoring through these fortifications, then you’ll see a buildup of snowballing scores.

The other way this turns out, is that the fights will be incredible. But for that to happen, the population balancing needs to come out of a ‘beta’ phase.
I’m concerned that a tick rotation this short will lead to runaway scenarios. With the “issue” of night-capping still being unresolved, servers that can hold a dominant presence over the two competitors in any time zone will create a much wider gap than they would now. If a server can tick 400+ for a few hours every day and still maintain a competitive ~33% of the total tick at all other times then that server would be untouchable.

To increase PPK would help if that server’s players were all keyboard turners pit against the top fight guilds this game has ever known, but servers that can tick like that are going to have massive populations that can just blob the fight groups down anyway. This then leads to morale issues, players getting bored, leaving, and more snowballing. This game mode is plagued with the volatility that is the human ego. The smallest changes can become massive problems if it leads to population imbalance (the core issue with scoring).

I can understand wanting to create a motivation to hold and, by extension, capture objectives. But I think the best way to go about doing this is to make the rewards more… well, rewarding. A negligible amount of karma and WXP for an objective capture is underwhelming. I can’t say myself where the sweet spot is as far as how much loot is “too much,” but even the reward tracks only ticking in accordance with the Score tick falls a little kitten

he fights that are held at these objectives are the exciting and memorable moments that everyone looks back on fondly. EBG is a good example of how an advancing force can apply pressure to a defender. Every camp and tower they take on an enemy’s territory can interact with and affect the keep. These towers are all important, and have a high priority in terms of maintaining a hold on them. In the new DBL, you see stale map states because towers are so isolated that capturing them does virtually nothing as far as a force’s map presence is concerned.
I think you would find more interest, and more satisfaction if these towers had more strategic value in terms of attacking the ultimate goal of an enemies garrison, and this would in turn add to the value of holding them for the home team. Ultimately leading to more fights, more bags, more happiness, and less Karma training.

In regards to objective trading with RI staying at 5 minutes while on a 5 minute tick rotation: Considering Event Rewards are a moot point, being solely a negligible amount of karma. the only considerations then are WXP and Champ Bags. The WXP at this point in the game is something that can be gained much faster in EoTM. And many people are at the point where they’re just tacking on world ranks with no where to spend their points. Champ Bags are a decent source of blues and greens, but they’re not an economy breaking thing considering it’s faster to do champion trains and Karma Training. Enough of these bags exist and can be farmed that shortening RI (even removing it entirely) will, and I say this with extreme confidence, NOT affect the game mode. The speed with which these things can be acquired else where turns the idea of objective trading into a moot point. To have objectives that can directly influence a force’s push toward their ultimate goal of Garrison or SMC is value enough for a server to defend them. To have things invulnerable to capture for an entire tick rotation will create a mentality of “Wait until RI is up so we can get it for the next tick.” People will wait around because this will be the most effective way of accruing points.
On top of this, the plans to increase the value of an objective based on its upgrade level will lead to an increase of objective defense further decreasing the sentiment and possibility of objective trading.

To keep up with the supposed increase in offensive behavior will you also increase the rate at which supply is generated? You’re putting an unnecessary rush on this game mode. If people need to attack something every 5 minutes, or optimally, probably every 2 and half, then the maps should be the size of a guild arena (exaggeration I know).
If points are calculated every 5 minutes, then people will be scrambling to get something done. Supply will need to be increased so that the increased amount of siege production can be sustained.

And you need to consider the economic ramifications! Siege is expensive and WvW produces next to no gold. This is a game mode where people are almost forced to spend real money in order to stay competitive with siege and food. I get that you guys are a business and view everything from a market standpoint but as soon as people realize this the backlash will be insane. This will induce panic and scare new players away from the game mode because it’s being carried out at such a furious pace.

It also needs to be pointed out the effect this will have on fighting. If a force is mounting an attacking, or hell, even if they’re just running to another objective on the other side of the huge freaking borderlands. These forces will be constantly redirected to defend. Or, every force will constantly patrol their third looking for an attack expecting one to come, and every map will be dead due to turtling and the fear of runaway scores on a freakishly fast tick rotation. If people are fighting and the third server decides to go for the quick ninja cap, then the force either chooses to run and port, wipe to the enemy for the faster respawn, or stay and fight and lose their objective. If RI and the Tick are not proportional to one another, then there is nothing healthy that can come of a shortened tick timer.

Your top 5 priorities for WvW-Overhaul

MIKE O’BRIEN! Thanks for your response, it’s nice to see that ArenaNet is taking this WvW situation seriously. It’s been a dangerous few months since the HoT launch, what with the words “neglect” and “dead mode” flying around.

That said, my top concerns for the WvW game mode’s remedy and ultimate revival would have to be:

1: The stability changes affecting the combat meta game, forcing melee players into very passive roles unless they effectively flank their opponents while they are occupied with another force. This has been going on for far too long, and it’s made the caster’s role in the zerg far outweigh any heavy armored class aside from the Revenant’s Coalescence of Ruin.

2: Keep/Tower/Camp/Castle upgrading should become manual again. Even if the mentality is to avoid personal currency investment into an objective so as to not hinder players who get stuck scouting, by having players actually have to click a button and choose their upgrades, it adds another element of strategy (Do we want cannons for defense? Or should we rush for walls and waypoints?).

3: I see that the Borderland’s reversion is on the table. I am all for moving back to the Alpine borders. This new map is far too large and prevents players from rejoining should they fall in battle.

4: The new rally mechanic is perhaps a little too intense. If we could meet in the middle and have a death rally 3 players, I think that would be a nice compromise.

5: The new scaling values of keep lords, and the SMC lord in particular is far too high, if any sizable force is going to take the lord down in any reasonable amount of time. If you also consider Iron Guards making the lord take Half damage, this creates for an SMC lord fight that lasts longer than the two forces confronting each other. It’s out of hand.

Fractal's Spoons still dropping?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Swanky McDanky.5214

I put off forever getting the Fractal Spoon for the Koutaliophile collection. But now that it’s part of a collection that rewards a Mastery Point I’ve been after it since. Before HoT came out, people said they were getting them all the time, but I’ve fractals the last 5 days and about a dozen times since HoT and I still haven’t seen this spoon. Are they still dropping? I know I don’t get any more Siege Commander Spoons in WvW, even though I wanted to finish my stack of them I guess I’ll be forced to stop at 51.

If these spoons are still dropping, let me know, and if they’re not I need to know how to get one

In PvP, I capped at 9.7 vs a Thief, couldn’t tell you the build. I myself using a Marauder’s Amulet with Dragonhunter runes. As far as might stacking and other buffs are concerned, I dont remember enough to give an accurate retelling.

I am proud of a True Shot I pulled off against a champion in PvE though. I know it’s not the point of the thread, but just wanna show what this skill is really capable of doing.

Staff Elementalist has been a staple party member in dungeons pretty much since day 1. Since the nerf to ice bow, the DPS has obviously taken a hit, but I doubt that the elementalist is liable to be replaced any time soon.

Most dungeon groups will always say “Zerk or bust.” It’s got the best damage output, bar none. That’s just math. And they’re right. As far as healing goes in your water attunement, it covers enough to not need investment into Healing Power, allowing you to branch into more damage stat setups to help with damage output.
If you’re not confident in your ability to stay alive using any slotted cantrips and dodges, then you’re only left with the option to adopt some more defensive stats; Soldier’s or Valkyries stats are probably the best alternative, both offering Vitality, with the former also offering Toughness. Once you’ve gotten used to the dungeons, boss fights and their nuances, I highly suggest looking into getting a set of Berserker’s Armor just to test your abilities to their limits.

Getting into and used to the elementalist class is a unique experience, relying more on weapon skills than their counterparts, you have 20 weapon skills at any one time; If you’re looking for optimal rotations, I suggest googling anything to do with our resident Dungeoneers, DnT. These guys will have all the information you could ever want on execution.

Here is the guide on DnT’s Staff elementalist. This will be a great tool to you; explaining all the optimal runes and sigils; but don’t this be the be all end all of information for you! You’re no good to your group if you can’t stay alive! So use your own discretion in terms of how much defense you need.

tl;dr: more zerk.

If you prefer full text guides, you can visit DnT’s full text guide on the elementalist here.

I like the sentiment of sharing all the cool content, the epic battles and triumphs. But I think giving things like rare skins too much reentry into the game will make the people who got their molten jetpack or their fancy mech-wings feel slighted by seeing their accomplishment on the backs of tom, kitten, and harry.

in summation, share the content, not the exclusive prizes

EDIT: That’s not to say that the replayed content couldn’t offer new fancy rewards

I hate Pristine Fractal relics tbh. One fractal relic has a currency while the other takes up item space.

not as of tomorrow. they are both going to be in the wallet.

I thought it would be a way to stop the elitest vets from complaining the newbies weren’t around and didn’t earn some load annoying chainsaw skin like they did. I’m perfectly fine with keeping laurels for living season rewards. I’m glad I now have the support from the wvw community! OK let’s keep it going!

Pvp fractal reward track! Earn a number of pristines and a level 40 daily chest at the end of the track.

I’m on a roll!

Slow that roll, chief. I think tier 40 chest might be a little too far. Would a pvp track that rewards fractal relics diminish the value of the content that they come from? Yes.
I do think there is a line in exclusivity. Fractal Relics should stay where they are, preventing the devaluation of things like Fractal Skins. They’re rare and shiny cause they belong to the Fractal Community. The Hero skins, belong to us saviors of the realm.
If you’re after a certain something, I think half the fun is the journey. Watching a guy who has done nothing but WvW for 2 years and is now a complete boss at it cry about harpies shooting him off a cliff is OP. I love it.

[Suggestion] Extra Toon Slot is nice, but...

Um no.

I dont want or need an extra character slot. I deleted toons because Anet screwed us over with Ascended, so I have loads spare. But I don’t agree with any ‘gem equivalent’.

People got what they asked for, leave it at that.

^ this. I bought the ultimate, I now have 3 unused slots + a beta. That’s fine. you’re all getting what you asked for.

Counterpoint: You may not need them, but not everyone does fractals. How would a WvW player get fused gauntlets if not for laurels? I think that using fractals as a medium to allow replays (flashbacks, if you will) into old events that shaped the world of Tyria is a cool idea, the ancient karka, marionette, etc., But using fractals to replace a currency that’s already established for certain items would cause a not-so-quiet stir if recent events are any indicator.

What utility skillset will Tempest get?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Swanky McDanky.5214

Swanky McDanky.5214

Well the better question is where are they getting the ideal of “tempest” from. They seemed to have gone with an ideal for the class such as reaper being the monster from a scary movie. Is tempest from the Shakespeare story uncontrollable or more of a storm moving in fast and hitting hard in burst. Or it could be an ele who likes to spin a lot!

We could get a full literature of a Sturm und Drang class.

If we’re speaking literally, they could even approach Tempest is the “tumultuous combination of things” — perhaps meshing (probably closer to mashing) the attunements together to create combos

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Swanky McDanky.5214

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Profession: Guardian

There is a severe clipping issue with the Carapace Chest plate for human males regarding the level at which the stowed weapon (in this case a greatsword) is placed upon the back. For the Carapace Chest piece, a stowed greatsword is placed very close to the body and clips inside the lower half of the back and into many leg pieces. Raising the stowed greatsword higher off the character model would resolve this.

If the names are important; I’m currently wearing:

  • Wreath of Cooperation
  • Fanatic’s Mantle
  • Phalanx Warplate
  • Pit Fighter’s Wristguards
  • Body of Koda
  • Paws of Koda
(I’d like to wear the Carapace armor. :|)

In the attached screenshots, you’ll notice the Phalanx Chestplate has the greatsword placed higher off the character in the profile shot, and the Carapace Chestplate has the sword tucked very close to the character model.

WvW Trapper Rune Build!

in Ranger

Swanky McDanky.5214

I love running trapper. I’ve been trying to get my hands on the runes but they’re never on the trading post.

You need to get the recipe, and craft them yourself. They are only available via crafting. I’ll edit my post to reflect this fact.

Crafting them requires 400 in Huntsman—but don’t let that deter you. The rune is as powerful as it sounds, and the cost is quite small now that the initial influx spike of recipes and hype have kind of settled.

Problems with audio ducking

Swanky McDanky.5214

I’m not sure if this is an audio issue or more on the tech end, but I’m having an issue with audio ducking or some sort of filtering issue—not sure exactly what to classify it.

I run TeamSpeak3 pretty often when I play. It’s routine really. I keep the game sound on the low end in order to not drown out my teammates, but I’d also like to enjoy some of the game audio as well. My issue is that when TS is running, the game sound turns well, bad. It gets layered with static, it sounds fuzzy, and it becomes quieter. I have my in-game audio ducking set to 0 and I’ve been browsing for other sources that may be causing the issue, but I’m at a loss.

If any one could point me in the right direction to having TeamSpeak open while still maintaining quality game audio, I’d be much obliged. Thanks in advance.

Game Crash Error when attempting to Dye

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Swanky McDanky.5214

Swanky McDanky.5214

I have experienced this crash multiple times (I replicated my steps just to make sure) but I’m unsure if it is with all armor sets, or even with all dyes. But when I attempt to dye my (chest, legs, gloves, and shoes) of the ’’Country’’ Light armor set with the Dye Remover, upon exiting the hero window, the game inexplicably crashes.

This should be easy enough to reproduce, though I’m not sure if it works with all armor sets/dyes as states above.

Thought you ought to know.
