I wanted to disable commander tags in PvE long before this patch, but yeah. It’s out of controoool. Couldn’t see the foxfire trees for the forest of multicoloured nachos in Orr last night. Please let us toggle them off!
Every time there’s a new armour set released on the gem shop people plead for parity between male/female sets, and every time we get ignored. I’m very disappointed that this keeps happening. Yes, there should be a mix of revealing and not-revealing armours in the game. No, that mix should not happen in the same armour set.
Please please please please please please keep the design between male/female versions of armour consistent. Please?
The lag in crab toss is weird. I have zero lag when playing the game normally, was experiencing no lag on Southsun proper even with 20+ players fighting swarms of karka, yet hop into Crab Toss and I was rubber banding all over the place. It certainly made the game unenjoyable for me. (And for the person wondering how people were getting rolled by the veterans, lag and the post-cast from dash are the two reasons.)
In beta of Southsun Cove bikinis were actually for sale on the gem store. Then they took it away because, I don’t know, maybe they’re afraid of feminists or angry parents or something?
Point is, I’ll pay you to get them, so please put them back.
Most of us feminists don’t have a problem with there being swimwear available in games. We have a problem with armour sets that fully cover male characters yet look like swimwear on the female characters.
I would love to be able to replace my ugly yellow underwear with a nice looking bathing suit (several options would be nice!), since this game’s underwear serves as swimwear anyway.
Either:
- design one outfit, and give it to both genders.
- or design two outfits, and make both available to both genders
Simples?
So very simple, and it would make everybody happier. It’s no fun to look at something you want on a character of one gender, only to see it look completely different on a character of another gender.
Indeed, SAB is a very fun addition to the game! It goes to show that a bit of difficulty and a ton of secrets can really help extend gameplay. Kudos to the team!
A lot of us don’t want automatically gendered outfits, though. I have no problem with there being separate items available that are traditionally feminine, but I hate it when outfits look super-different on my female character than it would on a male one. For instance, I have a pirate-themed female human character, but I don’t like the way that the cash shop pirate outfit goes super-skimpy just because she’s female.
Sure, release two styles of outfit and let people buy whichever one they prefer for their character. Don’t release one outfit that gives players no choice as to how it appears according to gender.
So, you are suggesting maybe a “masculine” version and a “feminine” version that both sexes can wear? You are likely to get men in dresses with that. ^^ Wouldn’t bother me but I can see how that might stir up a few people.
Doesn’t bother me either. And I don’t think there need to be “masculine” and “feminine” versions of everything released on the shop. Various different pieces are fine, and I agree with previous posters that some lovely dresses would be a great addition to the shop. I just want to be able to pick exactly what I look like (for instance, being able to buy the smart shirts that were just released—I’m wearing one of those right now!) instead of seeing everything turn into something different when I put it on a female character. Especially when the “female” version of costume outfits often translates into something much skimpier than the “male” version.
The effect is especially ruined if you have a female human wearing that skirt (I totally had one of those in purple velvet back in the ’80s, aww yeah). You can get the riding pants, I guess, but a pair of pinstripe pants to go with the pinstripe waistcoat would sure be much snazzier.

Regardless of the legalities, mystery boxes like this are on shaky ethical ground. At the very least, they’re a dishonest business practice. We aren’t informed of the actual chance that any given item might drop; we’re just told that the most desirable, limited-time items are “rare.” How rare is rare? The only way to find out is for a whole bunch of people to blow money on these purchases and collect the results amongst themselves.
And while most of us are adults with freedom of choice, mystery boxes are a conscious choice on a company’s part to make money off of a more vulnerable portion of its customer base. That a company chooses to take advantage of a small number of large purchases by compulsive personalities rather than a larger number of small purchases by ordinary customers is frankly distasteful.
Sure, ArenaNet can say, “Oh, games of chance are fun, and we don’t expect you to buy more than a few keys to see if you happen to pull a Weapon Ticket,” but that’s frankly dishonest. Anybody who is a professional with a background in free-to-play gaming and game-related purchases knows that the bulk of these kinds of purchases are from a small number of “whales.” Adding the gambling element into things just makes it worse, targeting people who are either ignorant mathematically or have a pre-existing tendency towards gambling/compulsive spending. This is especially true when consumers don’t have all the information they need to make an educated purchase, i.e. knowing the precentage chance that they’ll get the item they actually desire.
Those of us who aren’t vulnerable to this kind of sales pitch aren’t spending any actual money on it. We just get grumpy because there’s cool stuff that we can’t buy even if we want to do so. Those who are vulnerable to the sales pitch and spend too much money obtaining the item lose whether or not they finally get lucky and get it. Either way, it’s a shady deal that leads to more grumpy customers than happy ones. What makes me sad is that whoever is making the decision to put these limited-time skins in the Mystery Boxes doesn’t seem to care.

I use a Mystic Battlehammer, but even that is a little small on my Norn in Cursed Shore and CoF armor. New options would be great!
Hammers should be big and intimidating, especially when wielded by an 8 foot barbarian covered in spikes and with flames coming out of his eyes.
Hey now, asuras with hammers need love too!
In all seriousness, it seems like weapons get extra-shrunk in the hands of an asura, so much so that you can barely see them. If there are more solid/larger hammers made, make sure they still look that way when they’re asura-sized! My guardian will love you guys for it!
I’m in a large guild that can pull of Tier 3 bounties, and managed to do so this week without pre-scouting (way more fun that way, and gives more of a sense of teamwork/community, but you need the numbers and excellent organization to pull it off). That said, I think there ought to be changes made to make this content more fun and fair for everyone.
1. Sotzz has got to be bugged. We’re lucky and haven’t drawn him much, but a smaller guild that we co-operate with has been unlucky and drawn him a lot. His despawn timer when you find him is insane. It would be nice to know if he’s supposed to despawn that quickly, and if he is… what the kitten?
2. Any guild bounty that has mechanics which cause it to be easily failed if nearby non-guild players hop into the fight really ought to be changed. Ever tried to fight Komali in the volcano right after 40 random server-mates just finished the mega-destroyer event? We have! No amount of begging them to stop wailing on his fire shield in chat helped. They just auto-attacked like crazy until we failed the bounty. When missions were first announced, the official line on them was that you should feel free to hop in and help out if you see a guild doing one nearby. That sure isn’t the case with bounties like Komali and 2-Mult.
3. Why are there two time limits nestled in the Bounty? You’ve got to finish the whole thing within 15 minutes, and to add insult to injury, each bounty escapes after a certain amount of time after being engaged? Yecch, especially for smaller groups.
4. Guild Trek and Guild Rush (with the exception of the awful awful crab scuttle) are so much friendlier to small guilds than Guild Bounties. How come we’re required to unlock Guild Bounty first? Why not give guilds the option to unlock one of the smaller, friendlier mission types before Bounties?
5. With the increased difficulty of the new bosses and the many, many things that can go wrong because of the open world, I really think the Bounty time limit should be upped to 20 minutes. This would help a lot in instances of other guilds killing a bounty during your time limit, random people messing up boss strats, pulling Sotzz or rat-man, etc.
Doing Fractal 12, we wiped on the Legendary Archdiviner in the Colossus fractal. When we came back and started the fight again, he was stuck in Phase 4 for the entire fight. Though he didn’t start doing his agony attack until actual Phase 3, he spent the entire fight summoning his scorpion adds and putting people in cages (well, largely putting the same poor guy into a cage over and over and over again).
This happened for two straight wipes and restarts until our group leader had to leave, so it appears that once he’s stuck like that, he never resets back to normal.
Our guild did our first Guild Rush this evening: Chicken Run. It was the most fun we’ve had with Guild Missions yet! About 500x more fun than bounties, that’s for sure.
It’d be awfully nice if at the least we could get a fusion weapon ticket from doing this event. You know, give people who actually enjoy the story a nice reward instead of sticking them in those stupid Black Lion boxes?
People, if you keep buying all those keys, they will keep putting things you want in the boxes. If you stop buying the keys, they’ll get the message. Don’t buy the keys!
Shame on me for briefly getting excited about those cool new weapon skins before realizing that once again they’re only available in Gamble Boxes. Putting things like that in the boxes instead of just letting us outright buy them is highly unpopular. Why does ArenaNet keep doing this?
I regularly buy items from the gem store if I can just freaking buy them instead of wasting my money on a chance of getting them. PLEASE stop using the Gamble Boxes for things like this!
I’d love to see the timed component dropped from future puzzles. It’s not just a case of liking or not liking the timed element. Making the puzzles timed makes them much more difficult for players with physical and mental challenges. They completely shut out players with mobility issues (arthritis, limited arm/hand motion, etc.) who would be able to complete the puzzle if they could work on it slowly but surely. They also are very frustrating to people like me with spatial learning disabilities. I love jumping puzzles (in fact, the challenge of navigating them in an artificial 3D environment helps me hone my spatial skills!), but I need time to be able to judge the jumps correctly.
Since there are plenty of challenging jumping puzzles out in the world that don’t rely on a timed element, I have every faith that developers can put out puzzles that challenge players without forcing them to go quickly in order to artificially inflate the challenge level.
1. It’s not a holiday without an asura /cheer!
2. I Merrified my swashbuckling outfit with red and green.
I am for any solution that doesn’t involve gambleboxes. I will not waste my money on gambling. I will spend my money on things I can buy directly from the shop. I really hope ArenaNet takes all this feedback to heart and makes money off a whole ton of happy customers instead of off a few people who are willing to gamble and then end up disappointed with bad luck/low drop rates.
I agree, the bells are great! It’d be neat to see a music game like this come in as a permanent mini-game.
The dolls are easier than the Ventaris if you watch for Confusion and avoid killing yourself. And yeah, run in and grab the presents first thing. It’d be nice if they persisted a bit longer, but at least there’s a way around it.
There’s also a Priory quest step with the asura from that sylvari personal story questline… Maeva I think? It’s the Lion’s Arch step where you have to take out her defences and re-re-acquire the dimensional anchor. It’d be cool if she offered up some recognition as well… and especially cool if it’s a plant joke, since that’s her thing.
I used to be able to awaken drunks with water buckets without issue, but now it rarely/never works for me. It’s particularly bad at the Penzan heart with all the passed out pirates, but then that heart seems to be rather buggy in general sometimes.
I haven’t changed the way I splash water, so I’m not sure what’s going on here.
Captain Suwash is adorable, but there’s something missing. When he’s in charge of Jetsam Isle, he should get a teensy little pirate hat. Coo!
Re: “Defending the Keep”
While I finished this successfully on my charr ranger, it could use some tweaks. As mentioned, the siege engines reload too slowly given the speed that the undead advance toward the keep.
Also, I was unable to successfully use the arrow cart to hit any of the undead. After the bulk of the army had advanced to (and destroyed) the cannon, they all bunched up on a group of Vigil NPCs who were fighting outside of the range of the arrow cart. Trying to assist the NPCs or lure them into the range of the arrow cart just resulted in me getting murdered. It wasn’t long before the zombies had blown up the useless arrow cart. I only completed the mission by kiting, graveyard zerging, and sacrificing then rezzing pets and NPCs. It was rather messy.
I think the biggest problem comes when you have a skill or trait that regularly applies a buff. My thief gains Swiftness whenever she kills something, and boy, she sure can outrun a centaur an awful lot. :-p
The frequency is a lot more tolerable than it was in beta, though!
I have one character of each race, and I’ll note that this problem seems most prevalent on my (female) charr. Even teensy jumps off rocks that do no damage have her howling like she’s being stung to death by fire ants. It also happens quite frequently on my asura. It seems to happen least frequently on my human and sylvari.
This is actually a situation that can be overcome with brains rather than brawn.
Remember that hallway full of traps you passed through on your way to the room with the abomination?
(Now, the fight AFTER the abomination… that one is tough. I had to kite and abuse the AI a fair bit to win that one as a squishy mage.)
Have you actually tried doing it this way? The veteran might kill me in 2 hits but the traps will kill in 1. I don’t see where you will find the time to wait for the traps .
Yes, that’s how I killed the abomination with my elementalist. It was dicey, but I pulled it off. I assume the traps were meant as a way to kill the abom because they de-activate after that battle.
That’s not to say I don’t think the mission needs some adjusting. In general, it would be nice if your NPC companions were more useful and pulled more aggro in the story missions. I know the player is supposed to be the hero, but surely the great heroes Caithe and Traherne have learned to do more than auto-attack, haven’t they?

Heck, some of the big chain meta-events don’t currently have any reward, and/or the reward chest doesn’t appear for players who got gold contribution but happened to be outside of a particular (sometimes quite small) range for the boss when it dropped. I’ve been a part of a number of big mega-event chains in which nobody could find a chest or any other reward after we successfully completed it. It’s quite a letdown.
When a chest does show up (and it really needs to show up for everybody who got a gold for the event, even if they were deathrunning when the boss died, yes I’m looking at you, Metrica Province Fire Elemental), I agree that it should have something a bit better than random blues, especially since greens and higher drop like candy after level 15 or so.
I think it’d be neat if some of the event chains dropped unique armour skins or other flavour items that players could collect by completing events. It’d give people incentive to participate even after they’ve “outlevelled” a zone, and would provide a sense of having done something special.
