same here, crashed and click details samely due to AvCharMotion.cpp,

already reported the crash several times in the crash pop up window as this happened to me, tonight alone for 3 times

also, strangely, i played for a long time yesterday but never crashed, and there doenst seem to be any game patch or updates rolling out today to make it start to crash.

i know it’s an old thread but just writing in case anyone had the same problem and googled to here.

I had the same problem today and the same crash happens even when i try to reinstall game from a newly downloaded Gw2Setup.exe.
So i delete all the files under %Appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and it magically fixed itself.

which is the main reason im feeling that the current sPVP is all about luck

as i see it,

it took a COD-like FPS game mode(where players freely join and leave, and you might get hit from nowhere) when it has the fighting.dueling mechanics of dota or RTS games(to kill or be killed is not based on a fps-like reflex of nerve in half a second so both wont feel as rewarding as in a fps game), which is why it’s such a mess and needs despartely a big change of mechanics,,

So you’re saying in no other MMO ever, in terms of larger scale fights and battlegrounds:

  • Running into a zerg or low level player is down to luck i.e. you know exactly where they’ll be.
  • People can’t join and leave as they wish

I’d also argue that the combat system is a tab-action hybrid, where timing matters.

If you can get a serious SPvPer to agree to your suggestion, I’ll bow out. If you can beat an organised SPvP group with a rag-tag bunch because, as you said, it’s down to ‘luck’, I’ll bow out.

As it is though, it sounds like you want the mechanics changed because you can’t adapt to them.

i can adapt to the game now fine,, but cant help but feel it’s a shame the potential for a better game it has,,,
sometimes i get on the top of the scoreboard but dont feel as rewarding or have made contribution to the victory as a whole as i should have, and as i do have in other games when i happened to be on top of the scoreboard,,

maybe the game play and fun youre looking for and satisfied with are different from mine

DoTA? RTS (Real Time Strategy?)

I’m not seeing how GW2 is anywhere similar to RTS games, where you’re micromanaging a number of units at a time.

Also, DoTA is like League of Legends, no?

I’d consider GW2 to be different to these, since you’re reacting then and there by evading, interrupting ect.

Im saying that sPVP can be as strategic and competitive and fun as them, though it’s a completely different game(as a whole,, so im not compaining or saying we should limite weapon or number of players in WvW and PvE)

That’s every game ever. That point is moot.

Profession icons? Fair enough.

But having one weapon adds nothing. It limits your ability to turn around the fight in your favour.

I don’t use L2P often, but I’ll make an exception in your case, since you want to alter a game mechanic because you can’t adapt.

No offense, but if you took this suggestion to the serious SPvPers, they’d probably laugh.

i think like everything it only takes sometimes to experience, all the aspect you are asking are already in the game, and besides, i like that you cannot istantly recognize an elementalist from a mesmer just to say unless they use their skill it’s a new thing no other game i know has. enemy is not obvious and never will be, you can predict out of experience what’s happening next but you’ll never be sure. other wise it become chessmate… this is just my opinion btw. it’s what i enjoy in pvp.

yeah and thats the causal free mode im talking about

there should be this mode for fun but there also should be a more competitve and addicting, rewarding,strategic mode in sPVP

exactly as i said the same disadvantage also applies to your opponents,
making winning depends almost all on luck and random factors, most of the time you wont know why your team won and your enemies died to you only because you were lucky

strategy will come as an important factor(also when the game will be fun and rewarding that youll want to play again) when you can know what to expect from your opponents and that untill the game ends it stays the same

There are no random factors (aside from Crit and Mesmers):

  • People choose particular skills, and not randomly.
  • If you get hit, that’s down to you being hit, which isn’t random.
  • If you manage to evade an attack, that isn’t random.
  • If someone stuns you / roots you in place, and you don’t have a removal skill, that isn’t random. That’s down to your unpreparedness.
  • If someone sets you up for a big attack, and you use a well timed Blind, that’s down to skill, not randomness.

The only luck involved is:

  • Crit chance
  • You get good or bad players on your team / the opposing team

Go spend some time in the SPvP forums and learn which builds are currently meta, so you have some idea what to expect.

As a side note: man, you would have hated GW PvP.

i mean i need to know if a player is thief or elementist and what to expect from him instantly i saw him 100 meters away, and i need to bare in mind all the time how many opponents there are and where they are all the time so i can make strategy choices rather than charging in all the time going mindlessly anywhere towards uncaptured points on the map , whether i bump into a whole group of enemies and to be killed in halfasecond or meet a low health player and get one easy free kill for me is just all out of luck(which is exactly what happens now) rather than my skill

by making these things clear and easy to see , youll get a much better pvp experience and take the sPVP to a whole new level

and next minute, a nother player with completely different armor/outfit joins, u’ll have to die again to them to know their sets

Nope.

You can kind of see what weapon he has in his hands.

And if you’re prepared as well, you should be able to counter. Depending on profession:

  • Stun breakers and condition removal
  • Debuffs and control (weakness reduces damage taken, Blind makes attacks miss, knockdowns knockbacks ect)
  • Watch out for the big animations and then use dodge if you’re out of control.

Remember: the same ‘disadvantage’ you have also applies to them.

If you go glass cannon, however, good luck with that.

Funny thing is, fighting people is unpredictable. You don’t know what they’re going to do next, unless you’ve really mastered fighting.

Random skills? The only skills there are are the ones in game. The skills aren’t chosen at random either. People pick skills depending on their build. For example, a Warrior with a Greatsword is almost always going to take an Immobilise to make sure their 100B hits.

It’s just a case of knowing what to look out for, which is gained through experience.

Something tells me you have trouble adapting to change on the fly?

Dodge their first attack and watch the animations.

If they’re flinging fireballs at you, chances are that they’re an Ele.

if i killed some player sucessfully, it should be because I outplayed him , not that he mistaken me as another profession or didnt know that i can suddenly go stealth and backstab him 3000 health away, or that he thought THE thief on the enemy team is far away at point B and it should take longer for anyone to get to him or there are only 1 on the enemy team left alive so he’s safe taking this point but suddenly another player joined the game,etc

I’ll divide my post into 2 parts, the first part i’ll talk about things that arenanet can do instantly or by just making a little tweak but as a result will bring a big impovement to the spvp

so heres the 1st part:
the sPVP now is just like a random place where you fight random numbers of players with random skills that you have no idea what to expect and how well you’ll perform and what strategy choice to make, whether to go where or pull back or to kill someone no matter the cost or just kite around, etc making the whole game boring and nonrewarding

so in this part the goal of my suggestions are to make it possible that when you’re in a sPVP fight, youll know what to expect from your opponents , so you will make strategy choices like where to go or pull back, etc and it will be rewarding that by making these choice wisely you’ll outplay your oppoents and eventually lead your team to victory

1)there should be an icon constantly visble above everyone’s head that can be easily seen by everyone taht tells the prefession of that player, exp elementist should alwasy have that little fire icon above their heads, so when you see a player u instantly know that this is an elementist, not a ranger or necro or even fighter asura(yeah, this is the compromise and compensation made for the freedom of outfit,suits,clothes)

2)every profession should be limited to only one weapon what is locked when youre out of the base the first time of the whole game, so when you see a thief , you should know that his is melee, no matter he’s conditon dmg or crit dmg build, you;ll have your strategy or choice to make

3)there should be a mode(and it should be the main mode(when new players join a game, theyll be playing this mode by default)), that there’s a limit to the players in one game to a up limit of about 8 -14, which means in every game it’s always a 4v4 or at most 7v7, so that everytime you go somewhere, youll know youre making a strategy move like backdooring or lure them somewhere while you do some thing else unexpected, making the whole game much more competive rather than depend all on luck

4)enemy will alwasy be showed as red, no matter on the scoreboeard or the hints at rightcorner who killed who, or on the map where your base is and where the enemies are, making it much much much much much more clear (i dont know how such a simple things but can make such a huge difference like this hasnt been done already)


2nd part:
this part is based on that the game itself is a sucess, competitive and fun and attracts lots of players rahter than the trash state that it now enjoys,
it also requires more time and money to implement,,,

1)there should be a matching mode where players are matched with players of their similar levels/win rate/K,D,A rate/play time/etc and the game starts when the match is completed or the player is matched to another game that lacks player due to afk or early quit

2)there should be group matching or goup join so that when you can join one game with your friends as teammates automatically in one game

3)there’s a big difference whether you lose or win in the previously mentioned matched games

4)simpler and clear maps where player would know instantly how many paths can lead to one important point, and by blocking what point their opponents wont be able to go to what point, which is constantly updated and tweaked according to win/lose rate data and player feedback

5)when a player creates a game, he can choose between “competitive mode” and “casual”(like nowadays sPVP)
