It’s my first day with it, and already i’m scoring top 3 on my team several games in a row.
I think this has nothing to do with the class. You are just a BEAST multiclasser.
As long as the ladder isnt MMR-based, no good player will give a kitten about it. I dont even understand why 99% of those bad players in the "top"100 get any rewards for grinding the LB.
To all the people complaining about leaderboards measuring skill: you are playing the wrong game. GW2 PvP is about conquest, not fighting other players. As long as the end goal of the game is to hold 2 points out of 3 the won’t be about beating other people. There’s some strategy to rotations, sure, but playing solitaire is harder than learning point rotations.
To have a skill-based leader board we need 3v3 koth arena (or some other actual player versus player mode) and someone to do PvP balancing more often than once in a blue moon.
Not about fighting other people? Did i miss anything? Im gonna get 4 solitaire players then and farm everyone.

Also the leaderboard is suppose to be about the best players. Hence LEADERBOARD, when people read it it suppose to be the best players. In the top 50 there are about 6 players i sit here saying to myself really?

At the game. The previous leaderboards showed the best players (excluding the decay / 1-game-a-month problem) at soloQ and the best players at teamQ.
This change of the leaderboad should not have changed this.
TBH the best thing that could happen if there was a leaderboard where teams are represented rather then single players.
Engis has been broken for a long time even before the runes and sigil change. But once Balthazar runes, strength and celestial were introduced, engis became God. IMHO IP needs to be removed like Dumb fire for necros. Engi already has access to burning on p/p, flamethrower and on Balthazar runes. All passives procs should be removed TBH.
Dhuumfire wasn’t removed. But i also want to see a similar change to IP. If the engi could control IP, it would add counterplay (and if played correct, more pressure from the engi).
- BF does like no damage compared to 100b
- The risk from PW is the high amount of initiative
- Greatsword has a build-in evade (skill nr 3). That makes up for the lacking defense of 100b
I also think that overcharged shot should be changed. 2s daze is too weak since the launch is part of your defense (no blind from pistol and no defense from shield). Imo rifle 4 should have a better tell. Something like FT 3 (was instant, now has the same animation as pin down).

If the theef suicides on a far push against a crate, then he is just bad. You should not have any issues as an engi to get the cap on home if one theef runs up to you. And most likely your crate would have a bigger impact if you would randomly drop it on the midpoint after capping home.

Typo? If not, could you explain why you think that?
Even tho the OP complains a lot about engis, crate in a 1v1 is a “i-win-button” and bad engis will use it on CD. Its not just the AoE stun, its the net turret and the HUGE heal from the med-kits. And having the elite on CD for long is not a waste since you dont know when you really need it. Best use imo is to give it to your teammates eg. when someone is holding a point 1v2 for some time and you join the fight. He can pick up the med-kids and the stun/immob takes the pressure off of him. Or you use it in a teamfight for a clutch interrupt.
Now, if an engi is crating a theef, just run. You wont win before the engi fullcaps a point against you.
And to all the ppl who say only crate is useful: L2ElixirX.
The only thing that makes elixir X not viable is the RNG. If you are outnummbered and have to wait for reinforcement, elixir X can be used like plagueform. Rampager makes twice as tanky and imune to any CC (also soft-cc like immob/chill etc) and gives you a safestomp. Tornado also makes you more tanky with all the blinds and can push away downed enemies wich is also very useful in some situations.
I smell alot of hotjoin.
I have to admit that i became a much stronger player on skyhammer. All the stealth-pulls that i did to greatly outplay the ones that dont adept to the map and afk in the base.
Edit: i wouldn’t mind skyhammer if it was its own gamemode but when i press the join-soloQ-button, i want to play conquest.

Hell, we would love for our other two elites to be viable so we aren’t forced into using Supply Crate all the time.
Elixir X is the new meta but nobody knows yet.

Because turret engi can carry bad players pretty hard. While turret engi is not op it can perform on par with others players playing there class ok, even if the turret engi is terribad.
If you notice what spec of engi most players are playing its turrets 3xkit engi take far more effort to play. Most players that play spvp are not good, even though 3xkit engi can potentially outperform turret engi you still see a lot more turret specs.
In some case I have tried to talk to turret engi about kits and other skill and there are totally oblivious. I know turret spec is not good at higher level of play but idk it might be a bit to rewarding for effort invested.
except even non-turret specs are faceroll too. Does it require more effort than turret engi? Sure I guess you may need to open your eyes once or twice, but it’s almost hard to lose if you’re playing engi verses any other class. They get freaking dumbfire (IP) as a master trait, is that a joke?
If you don’t think engi is faceroll, you probably main engineer. and their elite is super-balanced in conquest, definitely.
Well some of current meta builds are: Celestial dd ele/staff, War hambow/Axebow, Mesmer shatter(condi is this meta yet?), Guard support bunker/med, Ranger zerker lb/spirit, Necro condi terrimancer/power nec, thief dp/sd.
Do you really think the above specs are that hard to play? Multi kit engi require more effort to play than majority of current meta builds. Also they are hard countered by necro, they have 2 massive weakness cc and condi. Engi trying to perfom at warrior level have to work much harder. They also slighty out performed by eles which are more mobile and have less weakness, in alot of cases they fill similar roles (depends on build).
I’ve yet to lose on engi just mashing random buttons, can’t say the same about other classes.
To play an engineer perfectly sure its not easy. Its not easy to play anything perfectly.
My point is that an engineer played at 20% effecitiveness si stronger than a thief or any other class at 90% effectiveness. Oh yea, toolkit so hard. Mash random buttons, grats: 50% chance you just landed insane CC on them into your ai. lol.
Roll any engi build with any amulet, bring supply crate, drop on a capture point, press random buttons with eyes closed. I’d be surprised if you lost.
You seem to know alot about PvP when you waste to most key CD on engi in every 1v1. Also that must be pretty strong opponents when you win against them with random spam. I think that the problem you talk about is the average skill of the players you face in hotjoin.
What turrets are you talking about?
