There are PLENTY of great dps runes. The boon runes are very good for every guardian build. We make boon duration go very far. If you really like, you can use ruby orbs though I’m not convinced the flat stat bonus is the best option. Ogre runes are pretty popular with DPS specs in general, the rock dog will hurt pretty bad and he gets your boons (last time I checked he did). The ogre runes give you some flat % damage increase and the almighty power stat that those ruby orbs were gonna give you anyway.
When you are looking for runes, with your build, power is going to give you the most damage/stat point. So I’d definately start looking at power runes first and try to find one with bonuses that fit into your build.
If you’re running an Altruistic build and I use knights armor…should my weapons also be knights Or should they be zerker or something else?
To answer your question simply, it depends on the weapon. Really it depends on what you plan on doing, fractals, dungeons, wvwvw, all around. I would advise against all berserker weapons. If you want one though, i’d have to vote for zerker hammer. You are gonna get protection and heal from the auto attack and if you put a fire sigil (or some other on crit sigil) you will get a ton of mileage out of it because of how many strikes the symbol is. Oh, and scepter. There are VERY few occasions where your scepter should be berserkers.
I guess if you REALLY want either zerkers or knights I’d go knights as a blanket for all of em. A cleric staff is great to have especially with AH. I REALLY think soldiers would suit your build better. It gives you ~80% of knights damage while giving you a TON of survivability from the vita. You already have quite a bit of toughness so the extra vita is gonna be amazing for burst protection or a missed dodge and especially good for rezing allies, you can’t abuse AH much when you are reviving so vita is your best cushion to keep your allies alive.
Can you chat next time about different options for Guardians.
So far we’ve basically heard 3 people talk about standing on a point using different bunker builds.Danto – Bunker
Silven – Bunker
Lily – BunkerBunker Guardian is a very boring position to play and watch.
It would be nice to hear people’s thoughts on different builds and options for Guardians as support with damage and DPS.
Either adding straight into most team comps or how a team can work around it.What you think would help a Guardian that wants to do something different to the generic bunker role, whether it would mean trait or weapon changes or game-play changes – in tPvP.
It seems that in WvW and PvE the Guardian has a lot more flexibility and better options to build for useful DPS and necessary survivability as a melee based profession as you can build with better stat combinations there. (Power, Toughness Precision).
So hearing thoughts about the lack of ability to build like this in tPvP would be nice.
Professor Beard here. We are trying to lock down some wvwvw and pve guys for the next few weeks. Have no fear. We wanted to do tPvP guys for the first few weeks because Anet was/is pushing the esport side of the game so we wanted to have people on who can help any new people looking to get into the competitive side.
We have plans for non bunker pvp guys in the future.
(Main necro here)
2. Taric is the guardian equivalent in league, not cho, he is mine (yay for biased notes on grimlock and brits)
Professor Beard here, just wanted to say the reason I chose to say Cho-gath instead of some of the other support tanks in the game is that Cho has the aoe knock up and the aoe silence. I play guardians in a more control fashion, taric is a much more support/babysit role. Cho was a “get in the middle of the fight and cause havoc!” type champion for me.
Healing scales linearly. Reaching a certain number isn’t any better or worse. What matters is that you understand how to use your healing power. Which moves have the best co-efficient and making sure you are using enough separate healing moves to get use out of it. AH scales terribly with healing power. It’s atrocious. AH in inherently selfish and getting healing power on the build usually just spreads you out too thin. Focus on staying alive and damage if you like AH.
Staying alive is the entire point behind AH. It means you are around to give off more boons, stomp enemies to revive allies, actually reviving allies, controlling the fight, getting into dangerous positions that other classes would die in so you can win the fight. Staying alive is awesome but in theory, you are going to be more successful killing the enemy faster than you will trying to heal your allies more. When you drop an opponent from the fight you theoretically “healed” all the dps would have been dishing out to your team but can’t now because he is dead instead of your allies having more health.
Don’t get me wrong, healing power has it’s place. Especially in small scale wvwvw fights. But AH + Healing power becomes a confused build. AH keeps you alive against steady damage extremely well, spend your time figuring out how to survive burst better (Vita or blocks or invulns) and killing them faster.
Heal guardian? Are you wanting this person to run shared VoR, healing breeze, tome of courage, aegis heals on removal, etc etc? You are likely gimping your team efficiency pretty hard by forcing some guy to go full magi’s or clerics just to heal you guys. Maybe I missed the idea you had in mind for the build but over 3/4 of the time with guardians the rule of thumb is “If we are healing you, that means we aren’t doing damage or controlling the enemy.”
