Even IF your account got closed/banned/whatever…… what would stop your friend from just playing GW2? I mean, GW2 is free to play. All he/she would have to do is create a new account and they are back in the game.
It is probably worth knowing that once you start to get outside of game specific problems, it’s not really the thing that ANet support are trained to be the best at. It’s not, after all, their job, once you get much outside the game itself.
Network and hardware problems, it’s much more of a gamble if they can really help.
It is/was a game specific problem. I have not experienced ANY issues in other games. I am not 100% sure what I did solved the problem and I’m honestly expecting it to crash again.
If it doesn’t crash, great. Maybe I will be lucky. But if it was an improperly seated graphics card wouldn’t you think other games would have issues too?

It is an application called GPU-Z. There is also one called CPU-Z and HWmonitor that I find useful.
Someone else solved the issue with this:
‘I ended up deleting everything on my PC that had to do with GW2, re-seated (and put a prop under the end of the card) and did a new download of GW2. Everything is working great right now and I am keeping a super close eye on load, clock/mem speeds and temps. So far everything is great and the temps are right around 50-55C for both CPU and GPU on max settings with GPU hitting 100% load.’
Your best bet, though, is to contact the Tech CS Team via the ‘Support’ link above/below and discuss the issue with them.
Good luck.
This was my post. I have not had any issues so far but I have not been playing much. I also had the frozen screen with buzzing sound. I also was noticing it in PVP as that is all I really play. When this happened I had to hard cycle the PC. After bringing it back up my frame rate was terrible (10-15fps) and I notice my ping would be very high. I have not had any issues in any other games (WoW, Diablo 3, CS:GO).
I am not sure what the actual problem was but my initial experience with support was not very reassuring. Get the usual “run some malware scans”. I can understand this sometime but this was around the 15th email they suggested this. They also suggested settings I couldn’t find and have never seen before (IT is my profession and what I attended college for). After letting them know this they told me to disregard the suggestion.
Good luck! Let us know what you find.

The GPU-Z screenshot was one of the documents requested by GW2 support. I just went back to look at the screenshot and it was PCIe x16 3.0@ x2 1.1

You know I didn’t check event log. I prob should have but often find that it leads to ambiguous errors that rarely aid in the ultimate solution.
So far there have been no crashes. Played about 5-6 pvp matches last night with no issues. My temps are great and fps during those matches are ~130+ on max settings. I have noticed that the longer I am in a game the more RAM is being used. Last night it reached ~10GB.

also ur GPU shouldnt be 100% load consider GW2 is mostly using CPU.
Misread edit……
I have found other posts about the R9 290x cards running at 100% load. I don’t have frames capped and this can be contributing. I find it weird that after a crash I am not able to get more than 15fps. Also noticed after the crash it was showing very high ping values (100-700ish). Not sure what is causing this (damaged game files that the repair didn’t actually repair) but I am hoping it was just caused by a poorly seated graphics card (or sagging). We will see if it messes up this weekend. I was about to get 2-3 spvp matches in with no issues.

So no luck with the reg repair.

So I don’t think it is an over heating issue as I have a pretty aggressive fan curve on radiator fans and pump (GPU @ ~55-60C and CPU @ ~65-72C) BUT I think it could be a heat issue. I was thinking that maybe the GPU is not seated correctly and this could be causing issues when the GPU reaches higher temps (under load this is ~55-60C). Water blocks are heavy and if the card heats up and distorts in anyway this could compromise the connection if not seated properly.
Symptom: It was working fine, crashed out of nowhere and then after reboot (PC was frozen) the fps are at ~10-15 on the same settings I was running the game at ~60fps avg.
So you had all of the symptoms in there but not in the correct order. There was no degradation of performance before the crash. Post crash, the fps will not go above 15.
This has happened 2 times now and the fix for the first time was to completely reinstall the game files. We are now on the 2nd time and I don’t want to have to reinstall the game every time so I am trying to find the root cause.

Are you referring to the Windows reg checker tool or is there a free 3rd party registry scanner you have had luck with?

The audio only makes the glitched sound when the PC freezes. Interesting you bring up the dusty GPU. I keep my PC pretty clean inside and out (like to showcase the water cooling I have done) but I was thinking of re-seating my video card. I came across a post that suggested this as the game is very CPU intensive and the slightest hiccup in communication between CPU and GPU can cause issues.
I may just do a fresh install of Win10 pro and see if that helps. Should be pretty quick with the SSD and I have all of my drivers saved on the 500GB EVO.

I remember having the same problem a long time ago, especially that weird sound. Do you happen to have the Sound Quality Option maxed set to highest quality (all the way to the right)?
I am not sure but I will check when I get home. Did this cause your system to crash and fps to drop to about 1/4 normal fps?
I have been getting a crashing issue that just recently started. I don’t believe mine has every just gone to a black screen but sometimes when the screen freezes I am still able to hear the game music. Other times it will freeze the screen and the audio which turns in to a loud “glitched” audio sound. I am currently working with CS but after about 15 emails back and forth (an multiple items tested) there is still no resolution.
A unique item to note is that after the crash my frames are very low (10-15) on settings where I was able to run the game at 60fps before the crash.
Hey, thanks for the reply!
I should have included this info but I attempted to repair the first set of game files using this but after the repair when I would try to launch the game (with the nonrepair .exe) I would receive a “serious error” pop up box.
I still ran the game and then got the crash that tanked my fps. I deleted all game files and downloaded the game. Seemed to be fixed until the last crash where my fps started doing the same thing.

Yo! Just like the title says, my PC has started to crash in GW2. I have not seen any issues in other games and just recently started experiencing issues with GW2. After the PC crashes (screen freezes and audio is blaring a glitched out sound) I will have to reboot and then can’t run any higher than 10-15fps on the settings that I was running 45-75fps on. The solution to this the first time was to reinstall the game but after this crash it did it again.
I am going to roll back my GPU drivers as I just recently updated them but can’t remember if it was crashing before. Already have a ticket in with support and I am supplying them with the information they need. Any other ideas are welcome. System specs below…
i7 4790k
32GB Gskill Sniper 1600 (I have 32GB because I run a VM lab)
MSI R9 290x Lightning
Asrock Extreme6 AC mobo
Samsung 840 256GB (OS)
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB (games and VMs)
EVGA SuperNova G2 850w
Custom loop (Alphacool Radiators and EK blocks)

Simple. No PVE required to PVP.
WoW Legion is a nonstop pve grind no matter which area of the game you like to play. In GW2 you can enter spvp at level one and never have to play pve.
I was sorta in the same boat. I have had GW2 since launch but had never done anything outside of questing and leveling but had not even played enough to have a level capped toon. I tried to get into the game before but it was hard for me because I didn’t have any friends that played the game. What finally made me come over to GW2 was the PVE grind that WoW Legion turned out to be. I only play for pvp and can’t stand pve. GW2 is a little better because there are large scale world events that you just stumble across and it is awesome to find 100+ people rolling around in a group to complete the events.
The community for pve is helpful and the same with wvw. The “community” with spvp is not so much….. I have found if you don’t have spvp experience it is a little harder to find groups of experienced players to show you the ropes. If you are lucky enough to find a guild that has active spvp players then that will make it easier. Other than that I think reading up on metabattles and playing well in games is the most effective way to find spvp buds.
OCing your ram is heating up your CPU? Make sure you didn’t adjust your CPU voltage by accident.
I would say OCing your CPU and your GPU would gain you the most.
No pvp groups/buds?
Been queuing solo casual games just to practice and learn. Would be super helpful to have more experienced players giving me tips.
Here the Site with Metabuilds: http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
Ranked is only solo or duoq.
Thank you for the link. I have been to this site a few times to look at popular builds for pvp. While rated pvp is primarily solo/duo queue, I feel it would still be beneficial to play unrated with knowledgeable players. Then when moving to rated I would like to at least duo queue.
I agree, the memtest should be the next step. If all checks out with memory I would try a complete uninstall and re-install of GW2. Could be an issue with the game files. You might also run a HDD (assuming you don’t have an SSD) diagnostics to see if your HDD is going bad (bad sectors). I believe Seagate has a free one called “Seatools”.
Keep an eye on those temps. It has been years since I have built anything with an AMD CPU but you shouldn’t be able to see the actual CPU unless you remove the heat sink. If you aren’t able to see the CPU you shouldn’t be able to see any thermal compound. Not sure what part you are referring to when you mention the transparent white stain.
Coming from WoW pvp (Legion is too much of a pve grind for me)…. have owned GW2 since launch but have never really done anything outside of leveling. I have joined a guild that does wvw but I am starting to see that pvp is a different breed. What is the best way to find some pvp buds? Ideally a group that would play casual matches until I got some time under my belt then move on to duo queues in rated.
I am on sporadically right now but would be willing to play much more if I could start hitting pvp hard. If you have a group or just want to team up reply here or add me in game.
