But seriously, do you even know how much money it will cost you to get legendary if you were to do a gem to gold conversion? Assuming what you said is even true, that doesnt explain how they got karma, 100% exploration, dungeon specific gift and the gift of battle. I guess you must really hate it when people have more time to grind than you.

Magic find is not really a bad stat nor is it really a good stat either. It is only perceive as bad if you are trying to competite with another player, but why should you be doing that in the first place? Having MF isn’t going to significantly reduce the amount of time needed to get stat parity which guild wars 2 is all about. If you are ttying to compete against everyone like its WoW then you should consider the possibility that you don’t understand the concept of the game.

I have played up to 12 hours per day since pre launch. No buying gold/gems, no legendaries (check the ingredient list for the gifts required: I got 100% map completion in 3 weeks, and everything else required that costs time done as well. But try getting all those gifts just by farming… good luck).

I have to agree with you guys. And if on top of that you choose to be a Norn character, besides a Warrior, you are the supreme losing character of them all! (Norns are big = easier to hit, harder to hit against enemies, etc). Getting tired of being killed so many times by Asuras (almost everyone in WvW is asura by now) that it is not funny anymore. Lost my interest in this game to be sure.

I personally regret rolling a Norn warrior tbh. I always get mostly killed by asura characters. There is definitely a difference. Some of you say the speed and dodging is the same, but that is not true, I can never catch an asura character, even with speed buffs and using skills to jump at them. Anyone care to explain that? Also, they seem able to hit me from further away using melee weapons than I am able to hit them at the same distance. Since we are bigger, there is more of “us” available as target, and since asuras are so small, it is much harder to hit them. Fact is, most of the hard core players have gone to asura (check wvw out) and this is clearly unbalanced. How the heck can asura characters consistently knock me down all the time? So, ANet doesn’t want to fix this issue, so instead of people rolling Norn warriors, ALL OF US are going to end up playing as asuras. Is that what they want? There should be trade offs imo. They dodge and jump around a lot easier than all the other races, they should not be as strong as the rest of the races, simply put. Can anyone imagine a gerbil or a hamster knocking down the heavyweight boxing champion of the world? hahaha… Honestly this is broken and I can’t start a new character now as I put too much time into my Norn Warrior.

Oreoz has a point. People who don’t have any problem or don’t do dungeons wouldn’t even come to this part of the forum, if they even visit the forums at all.

I think some dungeons are very hard, even though some “pros” out there say they are easy (they use exploits and game mechanics that were not intended for the dungeons to clear them). What I don’t understand is how some mobs can kill you so easily and others hardly at all. I have only recently started with dungeons to get Flame Legion armour set and I have to say I feel it is more of a chore than anything else as I need to do it to get what I want. PvE is much more fun in my opinion, that is, until you reach Risen infested maps which are horrible as they all pull, stun, knock down, etc. They don’t kill you easily, but they make it horribly annoying to move around these maps. I tried Arrah (one of the paths, don’t remember which) and we all gave up after 2 hours and 30 or so silvers in repairs. Never had given up on any dungeon in any other mmo before.

Instead of telling me to play better (you don’t even know me or how we tried this part so many times), tell me how YOU do it. If you want to help. I do CoF in under 30 minutes with a good team with barely any deaths, so I would say I know how to play quite well. It takes more than 3 mobs continuously hitting me in CoF to kill me. A single graveling in AC can kill me in two shots. Same gear setup. Is that ok for you?

Yes, dumb, because gravelings hit harder than champion mobs in other dungeons. How is that logical? I am a full exotic geared Norn Warrior and got two hit by ONE single graveling. Wtf? Also, neither my bow or two swords are able to hit the burrows most of the time. This is a clear BUG. And no, couldn’t report it, middle of trying it out with hundreds of zerging gravelings on us. We gave up after a dozen tries and a massive repair bill. There is NO fun in not being able to even hit the burrows ANet. Always getting MISS, OBSTRUCTED or OUT OF RANGE (when standing right in front of it). Only my bow’s aoe skills are able to hit them.
Please fix this. Doesn’t make sense that AC is 3 times harder than CoF! (And CoF is quite hard as it is, but at least doable with good coordination.

Gravelings in AC path 1 I think it was hit harder than CHAMPIONS!! A lvl 35 quest is harder than lvl75 CoF, what the heck? Also, why is it impossible to hit any static object like graveling burrows with melee weapons? I hit once or twice then it says MISS all the time. I change to bow, and only my aoe skills hurt it, all the rest of my bow skills show either OBSTRUCTED or OUT OF RANGE when I am just 1 or 2 metres away from it!! Without fixing this, doesn’t matter your gear, your build, traits, skill with dodging, etc. Just tried AC and with the gravelings burrows and them zerging you with 50 gravelings at the same time, with invulnerable burrows…. this is NOT fun ANet. Not fun at all. I just closed the game in frustration. Ridiculous bugs keeps spoiling what could be the best game of the year.

I have been reporting botters for about 10 days now and guess what? They are all still there! The roaming ones are still roaming the exact same spots in the same maps, the static ones are still botting the exact same events in their exact same spots and despite many people reporting them for botting, nothing has been done about them.
NOt only that, but a great deal more of them are appearing every day. 10 days ago, Shelter’s Gate in Curshed Shore (Seafarer’s Rest) had 3 of them. A few days ago they were 6. Today there are over a dozen of them there now.
They instantly kill any mob that approaches their attack range so real players can’t get a single hit in.
The best events are being destroyed for the rest of us because of them.
All I have heard from ANet is that they are “working on it”. Despite hundreds of players requesting in game GMs (for this and many other issues), ANet has been deaf to our requests and suggestions.
Without insta-bans on these botters, the problem will continue to increase and players like me will continue to get bored and just stop playing.
ArenaNet, can you PLEASE GIVE US AN OFFICIAL ANSWER TO THE BOTS ISSUE? Thanks.

Jayne, I agree with you. Thing is, I formulate the issue at hand, and describe what could be done to fix it or improve it and I get whiplashed so many times that I have just stopped playing. What is the point… I have asked on several occassions “what are your arguments” and people just rant off with insults and the “s t f u” replies and others are even more direct with F words and such. People say so often “this sucks”, this blows, etc and I can either be sympathetic or not, but they don’t bother me unless they go on about it for an hour (sometimes they do and I still let them express themselves). The only time I go on is when I get these players harassing me for expressing how the game needs to be changed (it does need to be changed, there is no denying that). I mean, even when I teach people how to spot botters I get harrassed. What the heck is up with that? Players actually defending botters? Defending Diminishing Returns? Who in their right mind thinks it is any fun to get to level 80 and end game to loot porous bones? Today alone I looted over 100 porous bones. I intend on keeping them to see how many can I get haha. When I mentioned the porous bones drops I get insulted. Does ANet have their staff playing secretly to discourage any type of dissent? When I used to mention and talk about the lag issues (when you can’t play for days on end a game you paid for me which is not cheap, we have to admit) I used to get shot down within seconds. If I was going on about it for hours, I would understand it, but I would just mention that I was tired of the lag killing me and they would start on me like vultures. Anyway, enough walls of text from me haha. Sorry about if it is a lot to read. I probably won’t be posting a lot more anyway.

I used to have fun with GW2. Not anymore. I am a veteran of mmos, going back to 1999 with Mankind, and then with EVE Online, Project Enthropia, DDO, Shaiya, KoK3, etc. GW2 started off amazingly well. I loved it! You needed to be good at tactics, strategy, long term planning and you needed to have keyboard and mouse skill as well (which I love as I type very fast and have very good reflexes).
However, GW2 is fast becoming a very anti social game. To begin with, you hardly need to talk to anyone to do anything. There is very little friendship making at all, in fact, it is the first time that I play any mmo where i have not made any new friends at all (despite trying). The only friends I have in the game came from other games we used to play together.
Then bots appeared. Then the lag. (was it the other way around? hehe). Every time I found something that needed addressing (lag, bots, drop rates, DR, etc) every single time I mentioned it in chat, someone would immediately jump up and start insulting me, or telling me to stop whining, crying, or to leave the chat and “ kitten #8221;. GW2 chat channels are so empty already as it is, they want to keep anyone from saying anything that is bothering them? It has become so bad that today I just mentioned about how weird it is (and annoying) that champion and veteran mobs hardly ever drop any loot (& when it drops it is porous bones) yet spider hatchlings have consistently given me rares and masterwork every single time, and these guys who apparently must have been just waiting for anyone to say anything, started insulting me and making me look like an idiot.
They spoiled the game so much for me that I just stopped playing. Not that much to do when you are level 80 and have 100% map completion anyway. Hardly anyone talks, nothing exciting going on, all events are the same and are now botted to infinite and beyond so this was the last straw for me.
Funny that I mostly get killed only when I run around reviving people. Every single time I see a dead or downed player on the mini map I run to them to help them. But god forbid I try to say something in chat.

With that said, it is very likely I will stop playing GW2, at least for a while.

Are you using mobile broadband Easyryder? When I was using 3’s mobile broadband it was IMPOSSIBLE to play GW2. The patching would never end, it would slow down as it reached 99% and then just go down to zero kbps and stay there all day (I actually let it stay there to see if it finally worked or not). I ended up taking my laptop to a mall to use their free wifi to get the patching completed after which I could play at home again, but using another mobile broadband (O2 this time) which worked great.
3 mobile broadband (the company) is horrible, so stay away from them, they will never work with GW2. O2 is perfectly fine so you can try them if you live in the UK. In any case, good luck mate.

I wonder if they can use the system some mmo’s have of making objects “translucent” when they get between your character and you viewing it.
It works very well in my opinion. The old camera viewing and the current one, are both pretty bad I have to say. Doing jumping puzzles when you have to stick very closely to walls, cliffs, branches etc, can be very hard or nigh impossible when the camera zooms in like a microscope and all you can see is the moss rubbing your nose. Out in the open the camera is fine, but when close to enemies or other objects it is very, very bad. Not what I expected of this game to be sure.

I have it every few patches, not all of them. And last night I had it horribly (gave up trying to play) after I joined the players doing the Grenth event in Cursed Shore. After that, no matter which character I logged in as, or which map I was on, I had the horrible lag with even a few crashes in between.
Today I have been fine however, so go figure. And yes, it is not your PC or your internet connection, despite what they may say.

the worst part of this is that if you ask if anyone is having lag in the game you will get the fascist fan boys saying that they don’t have lag and therefore your computer is crap, or your ISP is bad, or you are a ignorant. The fact is that this lag is coming and going between patches. Some patches destroy my gaming and others fix everything fine for me but not for others.
Also, chiming in on the botters. THEY ARE DESTROYING THE GAME. Not just because of lagging, (which they do cause) but because they are botting the best events (the ones worth farming) and kill all the mobs before you even realise there are mobs there hence you get no hits and therefore no kills and no drops.
And when you do get hits, you get either no drops or porous bones (thanks again botters, as ANet put in diminishing returns because you you!).
I got better loot as level 20 than as level 80, which is plain ludicrous. In which game you get better stuff when you are low level than when you are at cap level?
Anyway, I report every single bot I see after observing them for a few minutes and running some tests (luring some mobs to them, see if they react, and when they react, if they react to mobs further out, if they always attack and then return to the exact same spot, etc).

for me it is random. I play fine all day then at the end of the day (GMT time) it gets really laggy, and other days in the morning it gets laggy out of nowhere for no reason.
Today I was playing fine all morning until I went to Grenth event (Cursed Shore, Sefarer’s Rest server) and then started lagging so bad my skills would take up to 30 seconds to fire off. Needless to say I got no loot as I wasn’t hitting anything.

I have also completey frozen and had to kill GW2.exe process. Sigh!

I have indeed reported all the bots I have seen. It is very easy to spot them.
1) they always stay in the same event (or roam in the EXACT same pattern)
2) they sometimes magically teleport to mobs and then teleport back to their starting location
3) they only attack mobs within a limited range, even though human players can see the mobs much further away and move to engage them
4) they NEVER chat or reply to whispers or whenmentiong in chat that they are bots or when asked directly ARE YOU A BOT?
5) they spam F key in events so that every single F activated item or npc gets the command. This causes all npcs in that area to start replying with their usual responses (this happens a lot during bot infested events).
6) sadly, and no racism intended, they are mostly all Chinese (they either have character chinese names or their account names are chinese).

I thought that they were all guildless but they have been adapting and now there are some botting guilds out there. One of them is “lkp” and the other is “war” (in lower case, there is another guild called Warlords which has WAR as their ticket symbol)

However, reporting them has lead to NOWHERE. All bots I have personally reported on seafarer’s rest, blacktide and ring of fire, are still there right now! The first bots I reported were from over a week ago and still there. Most events botted are in Cursed Shore, especially fast multiple mob events like at Shelter’s Gate waypoint and Jofast waypoint. It is so bad today in fact that you can barely get a hit in so you don’t even get drops (never mind that most of the drops nowadays are porous bones thanks to DR which is also thanks to bots)
ANet really has to get GMs into the game to insta-ban them. Simple as that. The game is fast becoming a botter’s paradise, which means that normal players have two options: quit the game (not fun at all anymore) or join the botters. And the DR has only given players more incentive to bot and punishes players who don’t bot (the majority) with lousy drops.

This is INDEED RIDICULOUS! I visited several servers over the past week and found that certain events in Orr (Cursed Shore especially) are so botted, that it is impossible to get a single hit! No drops!
And if we do get drops, they are Porous Bones!
This is the amazing end game content we were promised? Completing 100% of the map, reaching level 80, getting full exotic gear to get the crappiest loot of any mmo I have ever played (EVE, DDO, Shaiya, KoK3, etc)??

I am sorry, but over 99% of the guys reported for botting are actually really BOTS. And the first thing they do when they are banned is to say “I am not a bot, please don’t ban my account”.
How to detect a bot: They always stay in the same starting positions, only moving to engage mobs that come within a certain range.
They do not attack mobs that are further than this range yet any player can visually see them and attack them.
Some of them magically teleport back to their starting positions which is not a game mechanic.
They NEVER reply to whispers or chat messages.
They used to be guildless but today I have found a few that belong to a guild called “lkp” on Seafarer’s Rest who are all bots.
They tend to stay in the same area for the events there day and night all the time, never logging out ( obviously to maximise returns) and one more thing that could indicate a bot inmy opinion, is that when picking up loot if there are npc’s around, they seem to get activated a lot, so you keep hearing the npc generic responses all the time when there are mobs being killed nearby by bots. I have only ever once hit a npc with F key while picking up loot so I think these bot programs just auto hit F all the time as soon as any loot appears and the npcs nearby get activated.
Anyway, I have reported dozens upon dozens of bots and most are still there.
What ANet need to do is to STOP diminishing returns which PUNISHES HONEST PLAYERS and only encourages the rest of the players to try botting as well as you can’t beat them by playing honestly. The solution short term is to have GMs patrol known botting areas and INSTA-BAN them on the spot, after observing their botting behaviour. If the bot issue is not stopped in its tracks, it bodes ill for this amazing game. Because most of these bots are actually quite powerful and attack faster than a human can react to mobs, killing them completely before you ever get a chance to land a hit, therefore, no loot for human players. When I see more than 3 or 4 bots in a place, I give up and leave, as I can’t compete with those bots. This is making my game play miserable as I can’t farm the nice spots for gold and items.
My suggestion for you guys? Get a fresh new account from ANet and start from scratch and make sure you don’t get your accounts hacked.

today it is fine for me thankfully! I am not sure why this happens, when NOTHING ELSE CHANGES, however, both the fanboys and ANet need to STOP telling us it is our machines or our ISP, because it is not!
The way the lag comes and goes and can be lag free for a week day and night and then hit hard and crash your game (especially after some of their maintenance) just proves it is on their side. I understand a lot of things have to be ironed out, but they really have to stop putting the onus on us. If it was our setup or ISP, it would never work properly, not work perfectly and then all of a sudden stop working. My two cents, but as I said, I am fine for now, let’s hope it stays that way!

For the past week I was playing PERFECTLY and then today all of a sudden, after their commerce maintenance (or during it) I started lagging. First some rubber banding and then full on lag! I even crashed a few times. And NO, nothing wrong with my system, I was able to download some files for work (over 1 GB) in under 45 minutes. I have 8 GB of RAM and 512 MB of GDDR5 RAM on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M graphic card and an i5 Core CPU. Why do we keep getting this lag? Please fix it PERMANENTLY it is horrible… (fix the botters too please….)

I used their game advisor and Hack This apps as requested to get game logs and reports and read through them and found that ALL the ncsoft IPs were tracing from London, where I live, to New York and from there to Dallas, Texas. So it seems that all my network traffic in game is coming from Dallas, Texas, yet I bought the EU version of the game which I downloaded and chose to be on a European server thinking it would be better performance (how wrong was I haha)

to all of you who have the download speed drop to 0 issue, what type of broadband internet are you using? (I am using mobile broadband at the moment due to changing landline broadband changing). Everything I have tried has failed miserably. I had the 3 files remaining issue first and today I have the 1 file remaining issue get stuck at 98%. Already reported, game advisor file sent as well as the Hack This report log. Not posting them here as I don’t want to share the innards of my laptop with the whole world, thank you very much haha

Daish, no need to be offensive. I have PERSONALLY had at least one post CENSORED, calling it a rant, ok? I have the PM to prove it and who it was that censored it. I admitted I was ranting in another post but explained why. You are no one to tell me or anyone else what we should or not say. If you don’t like what you are reading DON’T READ IT ANY FURTHER. Simple, right? And Mistbooster is absolutely right, instead of spending so many resources moderating the forums, they should just fix the problems the game has. My two cents.

Just to add that my mobile broadband is on 3G already, so no idea what more to do. I am only using the mobile broadband until I get my new landline installed from which I will have a new broadband contract (the highest speed package) and crossing my fingers that it will work then, but very unsatisfied that I am not getting any reply from ANet regarding my questions, as to why this is happening, and why can’t they enable an emergency patch file so that we can MANUALLY download it and apply it on our laptops/PCs. The complete lack of response regarding this type of issues is insulting to all of us that are experiencing it and it started yesterday morning with their patch of yesterday. Very unprofessional I must say.

I like how Daish refers to all the posters before him as “kids” (some of us could easily be a lot older than you). He should also realise that this is a product we all paid for and expect it to work. If you buy a product and it doesn’t work you are entitled to complain about it and if not resolved, to receive a full refund. At least in the refund department, ANet are not doing a bad job from what I have heard and they give you facilities to do so if you wish. But we want to be able to PLAY!! HEHEHE

thanks for the support guys (you guys who posted above not anet haha). Ranting doesn’t really help them with the issue, I know that, but when too many things happen over and over again and instead of getting better, things get worse, it is only normal to expect customers (that would be US) to get upset and vent off some frustration. For two days straight I have not been able to play a single second, I can’t get my game to finish patching which is so weird, because if there was any connection problem on my side, why the heck would it patch 99% of it and then just drop to 0 kilobytes per second at the very end of the patching process? I am still waiting for any answer from anet about this issue which a lot of gamers are experiencing. Only response from them was to check my routher and firewall (HAHAHAHAHA) and that it could be my AV (HAHAHAHAHA) (I use MSE btw, never given me any problems EVER). I downloaded, installed and ran the reports from their game advisor as well as from the “Hack This” application as they requested. Still waiting for a reply. See how it goes but I am very upset about this.

You guys are all lucky. For a lot of us we can’t even get to download the last few kilobytes of the patches from yesterday and today for whatever reason. No response from anet they just keep saying that it could be router or firewall (never mind that this never happened before and I have made no changes). Hate it when they blame the user first, wtf is on with that?

Keepfaith, I tried your suggestion once more and unfortunately, it doesn’t do anything at all for me. I get stuck when I am on the last file, at 98%. After that, all I can do is delete the temporary game dat file in my documents and try again, it downloads very quickly until it reaches 98% and 1.62MB downloaded and then download speed reaches 0 and stops there where it remains all day.

I am still stuck, now it doesn’t even go to the login screen, it just stays on downloading updates and all the switches like -repair and -image do not work now. I am stuck at the final 2% of the last small file left, probably a few kilobytes big only. Keepfaith, where did you get the DNS server IP addresses from? Why 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 specifically? Please elaborate, thanks.

I have been for two days now struggling with YOUR patching issues and all I get is that it is my fault, when EVERYTHING else on my laptop works fine!

With that attitude, you are going to lose THOUSANDS of players.

I have been all day fighting with this issue and after trying every single method everyone has come up with, I am still stuck at the last d a m n file at 98% with just a few kilobytes left to patch and the download speed goes to zero! Why is this happening? CAn you fix it? Wait, can you ACKNOWLEDGE this issue???

Didn’t work at all. I deleted the temporary GW2 files found in “My Documents\Guild Wars 2\” folder and it allowed the game launcher to update the last remaining 3 files up to the last file which was at 98% and once again, the download rate went down to 0! Now, the repair, image, etc switches do not work even and all it does is try to look for updates and just hangs there!!!!

haha, I like how they filter out swear words (didn’t know “kitten#8221; was a swear word) and replace them with the word “kitten”. Anyway, hopefully NCSOFT formally admit this issue as they have not said a single word and I have tweeted this and posted several times on this forum as well as submitted a support ticket and no formal response has been received yet.

If it was the mobile broadband why would it allow to update almost 2000 files but then get stuck when only 3 files are remaining and the update process is at 99%? It just doesn’t make sense….

yes, tried that, and the -image switch as well which forces the download of any updates as well. I finally tried restoring an older version of the game data file which allowed me to start the patching process again from scratch however once again the patching STOPPED at 3 files remaining to download. I am at my wits end and nothing I do has been able to fix this issue. That said, I am able to play any other mmo and online games without a SINGLE PROBLEM so it is obviously guild wars 2 server side problem.

I managed to restore a previous version of the game dat file in the game installation folder and it started the patch process from scratch, however when 3 files remained, the same problem happened, the download speed went down to 0 and now it is just stuck there and I still can NOT play.

I have the same problem since this morning. Patching stopped when 3 files remained and nothing I did or tried would make the patch finish downloading and updating my game client.
I then tried copying back the game dat file from two days ago (thanks for Windows 7 restore version capability) and ran the game again which allowed it to patch from scratch again as it did this morning but AGAIN it is now stuck at 3 files remaining and does NOT continue updating. GUILD WARS, WE NEED AN ANSWER ASAP!!!

hmm, trying that now, see what happens. It would in “theory” allow us to start the patching process from scratch and see if it fixes whatever caused the stuck files at the end. In my case there were no power cuts or internet disruptions so not sure why it got stuck at the end. And if it gets stuck at 3 files or so at the end and restarting the game launcher or laptop doesn’t fix it (like all day today) will just throw this game out the window hahaha

I tried using the -image switch as per your suggestion in the wiki and it still doesn’t do anything. The game launcher is stuck at 3 files remaining to download and no download speed is shown or that anything is happening at all. I have left the launcher window open for a couple of hours in case it was doing it in the background but it didn’t do anything. I am SICK AND TIRED of this situation.

I still have not been able to play yet. The game launcher continues to be stuck at 3 files left and there is nothing that I have tried that has worked. Opened support ticket but only the tyrian gods know how long they will take to get back to me.
Posted several times in forum but only you two have replied, having the same issue. I can not download the entire game again as I am on mobile broadband at the moment so want to know if we can download the patch file only so we can apply that and hopefully fix our issue.

As it is right now this game is providing more headaches and problems than any other mmo I have played in the past, and I have been playing mmo’s since the late 90s.

I can not afford to download the entirekittengame! I just want to restart the patching that started this morning as I have not been able to play ALL DAY due to the patching hanging at 3 files left. Opened support ticket (no response) posted twice in forums (no response) and absolutely tired of the countless issues with this game. Has more issues than a free to play mmo (and they have usually a lot).

Please help!

Is anyone else having this problem? No matter what I try, the last 3 files are not downloading, so I can’t play the game. Besides suffering from the constant error 7s, error 42s, this is just the last straw.
