Latency Tuning Experiments

Yeah, I’ve had similar issues with latency lately- I’m on a 50 megabit connection and other programs don’t have the same latency GW2 does. I hope this improves! 300 ms latency is rather noticeable. I’ve found that restarting the game does help a bit, at least. I’ve been getting 400ms latency for most of today so far.

Have tried zoning and relogging. Attempting to dye slot 3 of the Duelist armor chest (bottom left color) white results in the color changing to dye remover.

Carrier Pigeons for the Mail - Underwater Delivery?

in Suggestions

Thunderbolt.3542

Last night I came to the sudden revelation that every time I receive mail, a carrier pigeon flies by me to deliver it. In fact, I can see pigeons delivering mail to other players. When the guild found this out, it was as if a swarm of angry pigeons had descended on us (such was the torrent of mail). These selfless birds sacrifice themselves in order to make underwater deliveries, however. Although they leave a trail of bubbles, they don’t have a breather mask or any other kind of underwater survival gear!

Now, my suggestion would be either to add a breather mask to their benefits package, or start hiring carrier penguins to deliver mail underwater.

Server Forums?

Currently, the Guild Forums are a catastrophe. Finding anything in that mess is going to be a challenge. Having separate forums for each server would offer a lot of advantages, and not just in the realm of disseminating the Guild Forums. It would also help to foster some community unique to each server.

Any hope to having realm/server-specific forums?

Recruitment:

Recruits to the Shadarim should understand a few things that set us apart from most other guilds before applying for an interview to join.

First and most importantly, the overall alignment of this guild is “Lawful Evil.”

The “evil” part does not mean that we exist to antagonize others at all hours of the day, nor does this mean we twirl mustaches and play stereotypical villains- our villains are built to last. While we play villains in-character, we work out-of-character to make sure everyone is having fun (that’s the point). In our eyes, evil does not exist to win any more than good does; rather, good and evil exist as a symbiotic method of character development.

The “lawful” part means that these same villains are capable of interacting with others- in many cases, quite socially- without having to resort to physical violence (or anything else that could possibly anger NPC guards). Physical violence is mostly a last-resort outside of actual RP-PvP confrontations. Because of this, in most cases other characters won’t even know the Shadarim is evil at all. Legally, it should be very difficult to pin a Shadarim villain to a crime.

Secondly, and because of what is detailed above, the Shadarim is not exactly a good place to learn the ins-and-outs of how to roleplay. This is mainly because the Shadarim is a bit different from the norm, and it’s easier to learn roleplaying from the traditionally ‘good’ side of things. Nevertheless, we are willing to teach the art of villainy with that said. If you’re on the line about applying to the guild for this reason, I’d recommend checking Saeth’s Roleplaying Guide for an overview on evil characters.

Third, we are an RP-PvP guild- in that order. We are not hardcore PvP’ers, but we are heavy on the roleplay. In other words, to get the most out of the guild, it helps to enjoy some good old fashioned combat, but it isn’t a strict requirement either!

Last but not least, we’re a rather open, friendly, laid-back bunch out-of-character. You almost have to have a sense of humor to be playing villains anyway- the culture just mostly reflects that frame of mind.

If you have any other questions or want to arrange for an interview (OOC and IC), speak with Aziar Girault (primary), Talabitha (secondary) or Rasomil (secondary). Inactivity without notice for more than 1 month results in guild eviction, and our maximum capacity is 50 people in order to keep our community integrated and tight-knit. Because the recruitment process is both IC and OOC, it is possible to be removed from the guild for in-character reasons.

~~~~~~
Community Outreach & Other Guilds:
The Shadarim, being a haven for villainy, is essentially intended to be a source for antagonists to fuel storylines both within the guild itself and with other guilds. In some ways, you can think of us as being Evil India where folks can outsource villain needs. While we will be working in the community in general, if you have a particular plotline idea and want some villain spice for it, feel free to contact us and we can sort out details!
“Entirely ‘legitimate’ and ‘boring.’ Not legitimate and boring. Yes, there’s a difference, you fool!”
~Doctor Rasomil
~~~~~~

“Look out!” came the cry of one of the bewildered sergeants of the Seraph. The private barely had time to react before the centaur’s blade struck home, drawing a pained cry before a gurgle of blood cut short the man’s suffering. The centaur hordes continued to advance without pity or remorse, pushing the Seraph ever-closer towards the final fortress shielding Divinity’s Reach.

The sound of a horn suddenly cut through the din of blades and arrows, a clarion call of new arrivals upon the field of battle. For a moment, silence reigned supreme on the field as friend and foe alike paused long enough to observe a new chorus of war cries on the field.

“For Lion’s Arch!”

A band of what seemed to be nothing more than a rag-tag bunch of thieves, pirates, and cut-throats mixed with professional warriors and mages charged into the fray. Though little more than a dozen in number, the shock of their sudden arrival was enough to give the centaur advance a temporary pause. When the centaur onslaught inevitably began to recover and surge forth once more, a woman’s voice called out, piercing the rising bladestorm to issue a single command:

“16th Troop! Fire in the hole!”

Half of the dozen new arrivals took hold of small iron bombs dangling from packs and chest straps, yanked a pin from the top of the ball, and lobbed them collectively into the midst of the coming tide of centaurs. There was no cacophony of shattered rock and flame here, however.

The Seraph sergeant merely looked on as a sickly green haze began to boil up from the battlefield the centaurs were crossing. The effect was not immediate, but within moments the centaurs were dropping like flies exposed to a strong pesticide. As the sergeant watched a centaur literally melt away, he couldn’t quite decide if what he had witnessed was salvation… or damnation.

The Shadarim is an ends-justify-the-means military unit based out of Hooligan’s Route in Lion’s Arch. Formally known as the 16th Troop of the Lionguard, the Shadarim is composed of all races and creeds, serves under a quasi-military structure, and owes allegiance to the underground syndicate led by both Naima Ice-Veined and Bort the Bloodless in addition to Magnus the Bloody Handed. As such, not only is the Shadarim found in the thick of military engagements, but it is also spotted commonly in seedy taverns, black markets, laboratories, and with merchant caravans. The Shadarim members are just as diverse as the places they are found, and include adventurers, ex-military, outlaws, convicts, apothecaries, and even members of the Nightmare Court, Flame Legion, and the Inquest.

While agents of the Shadarim almost always seem to be driven with unity of purpose, few actually know what that true agenda is outside of the organization. It may not be too far from the truth to say that the presence of a single agent in a particular battle is directly related to the activities of another agent on the other side of the world- such is the web of shadows that surrounds the organization. If there is one mandate the unit seems to follow, it is that unknown variables tend to attract the least amount of attention. On the other hand, considering the diverse nature of the unit, it is with little doubt that most members of the Shadarim have their own personal agendas as well.

Nevertheless, the Shadarim does not hide from the public eye any more than any other Lionguard unit, and proudly participates in world defense both on a continental scale and within the Mists. Each and every member of the Shadarim carries with them an oath of their loyalty to the unit, usually in the form of a black moon branded into the flesh.
