Why do people stop playing GW2?

  • The core combat mechanics are bad/overly simplified.
  • Auto-attacking is sufficient to easily get through 99% of the content.
  • Skills are very generic. No choice in skills.
  • Most traits are ineffectual and barely change anything.
  • The AI is terrible.

When people have to resort to lies like these to bash a game, you know the game is good.

GW2 is not perfect, it has issues, but those listed in that post aren’t part of them.

Absolutely none of those are lies. At all. Don’t try and defend yourself by just saying “yeah well he’s a liar” without any actual substance to your argument.

Amusingly, you do exactly the thing you pretend I was doing. Ironic, isn’t it?

  • The core combat mechanics are bad/overly simplified.
This is obviously the opinion of a person you didn’t understand the GW2 combat mechanics, or someone who thinks having a “trinity” is deeply complex.
  • Auto-attacking is sufficient to easily get through 99% of the content.
This is just plain wrong, an obvious lie, anyone playing the game knows that.
  • Skills are very generic. No choice in skills.
This is plain wrong too. Each weapon setup has 5 different skills, and the choice of slot skills is huge for each class. Each class also has at least one skill, most classes several, that adds 5 totally different weapon skills, be is morphing the character into something else, or stuff like grenades.
  • Most traits are ineffectual and barely change anything.
Another plain lie, anyone playing the game knows it. Changing traits also completely changes the way you play and the weapons to use.
  • The AI is terrible.
Is it? Please list me MMOs with better AI, please. And I don’t mean scripted crap like in WoW clones, where some “boss” mobs always do the same things at the same moment, I mean real AI. Or do you mean the nonsense AI of mobs who can be “taunted” and only hit the character with the best armor and with 5 healers healing him?

As I said, all the points are, at best flawed opinion of someone who thinks GW2 should be another trinity based WoW clone, at worse just plain lies to bash the game.

GW2 is a WoW clone without the trinity.

Before you derail people’s arguments into “trinity sucks”, maybe you should realize that most of the people that are upset about the GW2 systems are comparing said systems to GW1, not the generic MMO mechanics that GW2 has altered slightly.

Guild Wars 2 is a WoW clone in the same way that Pizza Hut is a McDonald’s clone. They offer different experiences for people. No WoW clone would be complete without raiding. Or is it the mounts you’re referring to.

This game has nothing to do with WoW. If you think it does, no wonder you’re not enjoying it.

Most people play this game because they believe its a great WoW clone. After while they find GW2 is nothing to do with WoW, then they left sooner or later.
Only 1/6 of 3 millions copes still in the game, but based on gw1 population base 500k players is ok for anet.

People feel this game is dying only because so many people should not join this game joined. Now every thing is go back to whakittens should be slowly.

I think even Anet OK with that 500k population, NC will angry with that.

Most of the people who started in my guild of 100 are still playing, though not all of them every day like they used to. See, everyone has a story.

Yes, you right everyone has a story. So for the population we can only guess with some reasonable stupid way.
Like I counted head by head in LA(JQ) there around 150 player there in busy hours(Weekend).
Base on this number, lets count the 4 high lv map same as LA, others (21 maps) half of it.(In fact i don’t believe there 75 people in most map, but lets just count as Maximum.)
150 * 4 + 75 * 21 + 166*4(wvw) = 2839
JQ is one of the highest population server, lets just count all server same as JQ.
2839 * 50 (EU+NA) = 141950
Since people live every where, count each 8 hours as a big zone.
141950 * 3 = 425850
So 1/6 of the 3 million copes. (And i believe the true population should be much less)

I know this not a good estimation, but I hope you fan boys know:more people leaving this game compare the new people join this game. One day gw2 will become a normal Korean MMO like others.

About population some facts i know:
1. My first guild have 200+ members in last year October, 100 online anytime. Now, 0 online all grey anytime(No many leaving still that many grey acct there).
2. My main guild have 400+ members and 200+ online anytime in February this year. Now, around 30 online and most of them are new player ( join this game around April )
3. In April I can have 70+ members join guild quest (my guild unlocked all of them), but in this month only 30+.
4. Last weekend evening I counted player in LA(JQ) head by head, around 100 to 150.(Because I missed lots ppl hide in corner, but wont be too many 50 is reasonable)
5.In my experience, WvW big zerg is round 30 to 70. Lets say each map have 3 wave zerg. 1 wave count as map roaming .( In fact wvw cap for each map is 166, 664 for all 4 maps)

Since Anet don’t willing tell the true population for this game, and we don’t have such command like :/online .online. The only way to know the population is guess based on every one’s personal filling.

I don’t want to argue with anyone about this game is dying or not. I can only tell the things I saw. Since all my friends gone, i didn’t play gw2 for more than 1 month. (except start guild quest for guild in weekend, logon start quest wait ppl done logoff)

The state of Necromancer

Increasing our fears from 1 second to 2 second can go a long way.

With that change a terror build would have a standard 3-4 second fear on every fear skill. That’s like ~5k damage for fear alone.

Why would that be a problem? You do realize that the other classes are capable of doing that much and more with their skills in the form of direct damage, right? AKA, instantly? 5k damage over 4 seconds is a far cry from 5k instant, and would only be achievable with condition builds. Necromancers have zero burst capability as a condition build, so that 5k damage wouldn’t even be followed up with anything major.

I remember some where that ANet said that they want condition damage to be on par with direct damage. Well, without burning, necromancers are not on par with that ideal.

True.
But, this would be 5k plus all other conditions and direct damage you can pull off during that time. So this one fear un-stun-breaked might really do 7-10k. Now this is pretty devastating for some classes who have less than 20k hp. That means they need to burn a stun break for every fear to stay in the fight at all. And since you could queue a corrupted stability – Reaper’s Mark – Doom, you could force another player into this chain or make him burn all his defensive skills. This would be like a thief being able to use Basilisk Venom 3 times in a row.

Then again… a thief can finish you with a few crits in a couple of seconds, so I guess it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.

By the way there wont be 5k damage at all.
1. You need 20 in Soul Reaping for Master of Terror(50% fear Duration)
2. You need 30 in Spite for 30% fear Duration.
3. You need other 20% fear Duration from runes. (Mean lots C/V/T loss)
After all above your fear is 4s and the damage is around 800/s .
4s fear = 3.2K damage = one clone’s shatter damage( shatter build have 4 clones).

But I agree, 4s CC is too long.
What Anet should do:
Make fear becom terror and terror is cc skill no long effect by conditon Duration.

Terror:
Fear becomer Terror deals damage, and it deals an additional 50% damage if the target has another condition on them.

Master of Terror:
Fear you inflict lasts 50% longer. Terror you inflict last 1 second longer.

It’s simple to me..alot of people would have bought the skins if you could buy them in the BLC,listed for 600 – 800 each. Now lot of people will not even try buying those chests,so i dunno how that works out for anet. Are they really earning more money now then when they would have put all the skins in the BLC seperatly ?

Greatsword 800Gems
Sword 600 Gems..

You get the idea..And in this way i would have surely bought atleast 4 weapons,axe/sword/hammer/greatsword…But as of now ? I won’t be buying anything, since i know my luck is terrible with these kind of things.I honestly think its a bad idea to be selling these skins in this way.

I know some rich guys spend $250 for the skin. That’s mean 25 800Gems GS.
And if he was not lucky Anet can make more money with those box.(Rich ppl will buy chest until they have skin.)
So, I think Anet is making more money with those chest.(But I still don’t think it’s good idea for long term)

Ulitma Online, Everquest, Asheron’s Call, Asheron’s Call 2, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft……I’ve never played an MMO that left a bad taste when it comes to this.

Now, if this is the future of MMO’s……I’m a saaad panda :-(

WoW has a monthly fee and STILL has a cash shop. Sorry but I think that’s massively greedy. Are you saying that WoW, with it’s 8.3 million subscribers, it used to be a lot more, making $15 for each of them every month has to also have a cash shop? I consider that the height of greed.

Dark Age of Camelot is an old and dead game. It had a monthly fee when it was 12 years old. It’s made a ton of money. So yeah, let’s take the monthly fee MMOs off, because you can’t compare them.

Compare it to buy to play or free to play MMOs that continually produce content. That’s ALL you can honestly compare it to, without being completely disingenuous.

And don’t go and bring Sony into this, because they’re as greedy as anyone.

Now look at the Turbine games. Go look at the Lotro cash shop, the DDO cash shop. Go look at AoC’s cash shop. Hell, in SWToR, which has gone free to play, you can barely walk without paying a fee. Go take a look at Runes of Magic’s cash shop. Anything by PW.

I don’t say you shouldn’t be annoyed by RNG, but you should at least be honest about comparisons.

I was just speaking to MY past experiences.
I give up. As always, you’re right.

It’s not about being right or wrong, not in this case. It’s about being realistic. A game produced 5-10 years ago is facing a completely different market than a game being produced today. The whole industry has changed. It’s more competitive. Everyone needs what edges they can get.

Do you really not think WoW is greedy for having a cash shop on top of a subscription fee?

If the cash shop is direct purchase, and not a slot machine, I’m ok with it.
If WoW is subscription and slot machine cash shop, then yes, it’s crazy greedy. I don’t have a problem with the cash shops. If done right, I’ll spend money in them. What I don’t like is the slot machine tactic. If they are going to use RNG, then put it IN the game as drops, not in the cash shop to get skins. That’s my preference.

So you’re saying a company that ALREADY makes millions and millions of dollars each and every month, should go out and sell mounts and minis for $25 bucksas well. And that’s somehow okay?
.

That’s the reason million player leaving WOW.
Subscription game sell anything in game with $ are bad.
P2P/F2P sell anything with RNG in game also bad.
Most people’s memerable wow, is the wow before Lichking.

Casual is not 1-2 hours a day

So basically in a nutshell I am saying:

1. That the “casual” term is misused – at least in GW2.
2. True casual players (and even some more hardcore) will never reach their in game goals of gear/achievements – even after years of playing (without using gems or getting lucky drops).
3. Perhaps it is time we stop pretending that this game is for casuals.

Sorry for the rant. I feel better now.

1. You are 100 % right. People use “casual” as excuse for “noob”
2. A true “casual” player(by your definition) should not play MMO at all, it’s waste of time.(Normal RPG will be much better for them).
3. Since GW2 is a traditional setup MMO, it never truly for casual player.

Well, do you believe me there are actually ways to make cof comparible gold by doing other dungeon?

I dont’ mind cof getting nerf, but it is just my opinion is people will just move on to the “next most efficient run”.

You see what happened after the pent/shelter dynamic event nerf. People just move onto the next most profitable event.

People will always farm the same dungeon and same area which is most efficient for gold.

And then they complain that the game is boring and grindy

Because all “good” gears(skin) are based on gold(farming), not based on skill/cooperation(hard dungeon like raid).
