New player, prof choice?

I feel incited to play every single class right now.

Do you have a Level 80 Boost and a free character slot? If so you can test every profession at level 80, since the boost can be undone if you don’t leave the Silverwastes – just make a character and boost them (you probably have to play the first instance before it’ll let you boost, I guess). Once you’ve finished testing, undo the boost, then delete and make another one of a different profession. You can’t test elite specs with the boost though.

Music in Draconic Mons (solved)

I think some of the music from the original soundtrack isn’t actually on the GW2 soundtrack release because it was from GW1 Prophecies and Eye of the North. The soundtracks for those are on Youtube:

Have you tried the Arenanet Soundcloud page?

They have an album of Living World Season 3 music. Could it be the Ember Bay track? (Definitely plays in Draconis Mons, fits your description, and was out before the most recent Hallowe’en.)

Otherwise, they have playlists for Hallowe’en 2012 and 2014 that might have the track on.

I loved the mount, I really like the way it handles. It shouldn’t be called a “raptor” though: it isn’t one, and there are already actual raptors in game elsewhere. It looks more like ceratosaur or something.

The map looks great, but feels like Vabbi. The Crystal Desert in GW1 felt bleak, barren and dangerous; I’m not getting that atmosphere here.

First instance was too easy, I used a profession I’m not familiar with and had no problems. Hydras feel too weak as well.

Identifying unidentified items: way too expensive. Identification should cost, at most, the same as basic salvage.

A rant about karma

It’s a lot for someone who has been playing for 5 years but spent all their karma at Wintersday.

I find Wintersday is the best time to make karma. IIRC you can make several thousand from delivering gifts to orphans (very quick once you know where they are and it gives a karma booster), and by doing the bell choir ensemble.

Of course, that doesn’t help the OP right now…

Rune of the revenant + med kit

According to the wiki page on Med Kit:

“Activating or stowing the kit triggers on-heal effects; using the kit’s five skills (or its tool belt skill) does not. The exception is Cleansing Synergy, which is only activated by the tool belt skill.”

Presumably the GW2Skills build editor isn’t programmed to know that.

Edit: Having just played around with GW2Skills, this seems to be a problem with Superior Rune of the Revenant, not with Med Kit: the resistance icon stays grey for any healing skill.

How to craft exotic gear with Magi stats

2. crafted the two ori-horn pieces that are used for all exotic warhorns

Do you really mean you crafted two horn pieces? If so, that could be your problem — you need a horn and a mouthpiece.

Setting challenges for open world and story

Thanks for the suggestions! I’m going for Thief, since it’s the profession I’m worst with, no armour or trinkets, and I’ll play it by ear with weapons.

Otherwise, depending on your personality, I’d create some rp elements for the character. … So many options, but I suggest you pick something that connects with your personality.

Nice idea, I’ll see what I can come up with. I find it weird that we’re expected to kill so many innocent wild animals (bears, wolves, jaguars, etc.), so maybe I’ll try to avoid that.

Setting challenges for open world and story

Using only equipment you find won’t make the game harder, it will make it more annoying. You’re not going to die in the open world. It just takes an ungodly long time to kill things.

Wooden Potatoes did a challenge where he wasn’t allowed to ever dodge, but I think that become a bit of a joke eventually since open world enemies hit so weakly. I’m not certain since I don’t particularly watch his stuff.

Yeah, I’m worried that anything I come up with is just going to make the game slow and tedious rather than challenging. That’s why I was asking really – in case anyone had a challenge that actually makes things harder rather than just take longer.

I’m intending to start a new character, but since the open world and personal story are easier than they used to be, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for challenges I can set myself to make them more difficult/interesting. I’m thinking of things like setting restrictions for what equipment I can use (e.g. only using basic equipment that I find as loot, or something).

I’ve read about a challenge where you have to get to level 80 without fighting, but I do actually want to fight.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone tried anything like this?
