Made without Sylvari in mind

Total Darkness.3092

^ Well, to be literal, Sylvari are born with no armor at all; leafy or otherwise. Both in lore and in the game. Player characters are naked until they talk to a Warden about “the clothes I wore in my dream”.

And I do agree that there are quite a few “errors”, one could say, regarding how the lowbie experiences of the game go for Sylvari. However, a lot of it is more just game mechanics than anything else. A shame, but the game works easier that way.

I really wish there were far more leafy armors and town clothes for Sylvari. I’d imagine they would have such beautiful clothing.

How can Sylvari be Necromancers?

in Sylvari

Total Darkness.3092

Necromancers, more than anything, are magic users who specialize in death and the dead; none of which is “evil”. It’s like a fascination with it, in a loose sense.

Most Sylvari that are necromancers are such because they are fascinated and intrigued with death; as they mostly have no understanding of what it is and what happens when one dies. To many Sylvari, death is just as wondrous as life.

Original new enemy or a reskin?

Reskins are incredibly common though in these games. It’s a lot easier to use an already existing animation model base and slap a new skin over it, instead of creating a brand new everything from complete scratch. While the latter would be preferable, it’s not really efficient or time friendly.

I’m so used to playing games where that is done up, down, and backward all over the game world, so I guess it doesn’t bother me any.

Night and day-time

Total Darkness.3092

I believe that day time is about 80 minutes and night time is about 40 minutes in length (I cannot remember exactly how long it is, but it’s something like that).

The only thing that irks me about it is it’ll be night time in one place (ex: like being in an overflow) and when I go to another zone (or go to the main server) it’s day time. That’s just a little weird to me. But it’s livable. I don’t mind it. Zones seem to have their own little timers in regards to that.

I believe the reason for this was, for some people the time they play would be either always day or always night depending on when they are able to play and where they live. In another game I played, I usually could only play at night, so it was always ever night during my playtime. I didn’t get to see day time very often. If this was the case in GW2, I still would only be ever seeing night time.

So, this method is very nice for those of us who play “at night” to be able to see the sun. =P

Necromancers, minions and all the crying..

I dunno, I think it’s more of a “joke” or something.

Because a necromancer waves their hand and the minion comes to life.

Thus “hand raised”.

Sylvari Physiology

Remember, plants can “breathe”, but not in the same literal sense that we do. They don’t possess animal lung organs, but there are holes on leaves that draw air in and out.

The more correct term would be: Sylvari are “human like”. They are plants trying to be human, but obvious are not that completely. And never will be.

They do have a digestive system of some sort (remember that some plants DO eat meat. ex: pitcher plants and venus fly traps) and Sylvari do eat much of the same foods humans eat (Killeen in the Ghosts of Ascalon book was eating chicken at one point).

They also shed pollen while they walk. I dunno, but that intrigues me a lot. xD

I’d really like to see an in-depth breakdown of their innards from Anet. I think it would be highly fascinating.

Is the Nightmare Court truly evil?

in Sylvari

Total Darkness.3092

As some would say, evil is a point of view.

The Nightmare Court kills largely without remorse or conscience as they are largely chaotic. Gavin is a rare exception among them. They kill innocents and anyone else who gets in their way without a moment’s hesitation; some even reveling in torturing their prisoners until they begged to die or turned. Death and murder are actions they have no qualms with and to those that value life, this is pure evil.

The Soundless are far from any sort of “evil”. They are Sylvari who found the echoes and voices of the Pale Tree, the Dream, and other Sylvari to be deafening and mentally jarring and they chose to cut themselves off. They don’t aim to hurt others and the Nightmare Court slaughters them with the same indifference as those from the Grove.

The Pale Tree grew up with the Ventari Tablet, which speaks about accepting others regardless of their species/choices/actions/alignments and to accept all forms of life and their right to exist; evil or good. The Pale Tree does not try to get her children back who “stray”, if you will. She mourns for her children who turn to Nightmare and pities her children who choose to silence her voice. But she does nothing, for they have a right to choose their own lives, even if it differs from her ideals.

Besides, if the Nightmare Court was able to corrupt the Pale Tree, they’d be an even bigger threat to the rest of the world. They would have a tree that would be able to grow and produce and endless number of soldiers for their ranks, most likely far faster than any of the other races could reproduce.

That would be all around kinda bad for everyone.
