I tried using ShadowPlay with GW2 a year or so ago – had the same issue.
1. Tried contacting GW2 support,
2. They suggested contacting nVidia support,
3. nVidia support suggested contacting GW2 support. Repeat.
So, all I can say is that you’re not the only one having this issue.
Might be worth posting this in the tech support forum area, but not sure if there is any real solution.

Same issue here. Happens both in windowed and full-screen. I don’t get any “driver crash” message tho.

Something that I forgot: At the moment when game goes black a sound is played. I think it’s the same little sound that plays as the loading screen appears when waypointing between zones.

i used to have this problem with gw1.
i use a hd tv as a monitor, and it was caused by scaling.
the tv was trying to scale all the time, and the driver didnt have
a scaling setting i could adjust. had to use a registry setting to force the driver
to see it as a monitor.

The newer drivers do have one. You could try the ‘no scaling’ setting.

Thanks for your response!

I can’t seem to find the “scaling” option you’re talking about, yet I strongly doubt it’s related because of multiple reasons:
- I have encountered the same bug in windowed mode
- I am (when not windowed) running Guild Wars 2 in the same resolution as my monitor (1080p).

I have exact same problem as derekch.1302 also I see many small posts with the same problem (nothing renders yet UI works) and no solution, so bump.
I’m on nVidia GTX 970 not overclocked.
edit: formatting, spelling.

Rollback on changes ETA?

Level gating/simplifying/blocking the UI = ok/whatever/I don’t care.
Level gating the actual skills/abilities/features = really, really bad.

Yet everyone makes mistakes for whatever reasons. I’m sure ANet has a reason. BUT this IS a bad feature, so a rollback on this would raise my respect for ANet immensely.

GW2 conflicting with Shadowplay

It is very weird because I don’t have the same problem in any other game. Well, I guess I’ll just try to work around it somehow. Don’t know how though. Thanks for your replies!

What is Shadowplay: it’s a new recording thing by nVidia that works on GeForce video cards and allows recording gameplay with framerate loss of less than 15%. Most reasonably new GeForce cards have it now so this question is kindof more than an incompatibility with a single software product. I hope.

What is the problem: GW2 is not detecting all key-presses when Shadowplay is enabled. If capturing is disabled everything works just fine, but just a few seconds after enabling capture (or if it’s enabled to start with) the game somehow randomly misses key-presses. The game is not lagging, it is just randomly not ‘catching’ keys. The same behavior is not observable in any other games.

A silly try of an example:
If I press the keys 1 3 W D 5 F1 2, the game should:
press 1 -> skill #1
press 3 -> skill #3
press W -> move forward
press D -> move right
press 5 -> skill #5
press F1 -> switch attunements
press 2 -> skill #2

But in some cases with Shadowplay running the actions performed might be
press 1 -> skill #1
press 3 -> skill #3
press W -> [nothing happens]
press D -> move right
press 5 -> [nothing happens]
press F1 -> switch attunements
press 2 -> skill #2

or some-when else with the exact same key sequence
press 1 -> skill #1
press 3 -> [nothing happens]
press W -> move forward
press D -> move right
press 5 -> skill #5
press F1 -> [nothing happens]
press 2 -> skill #2

or maybe some-when else all the skills might fire and everything might react. It seems random and not dependent on the intensity of game-play or the speed of how fast the keys are pressed.

BTW.I have tried re-installing graphics card drivers, Shadowplay and GW2.
