Sorry Xanthus, good point.
Bring up your hero menu then head to the mists. from there you can head to the Lions arch portal (close by from where you teleport in). Once in lions arch open the map and you’ll see two sets of portals, some to the south near where your at (pvp portals). Then another set to the north. Head to the ones at the north. From there you can head to any starter area.
When you reach those portals you’ll notice NPC’s standing by them. At a quick glace to get back to your starter area just head in to the one of the same race as you. EX. 2 humans standing next to portal is human starting area.
Hope that helps!
Two options. Option one, wonder and wait for events.
Option two. Go to another starter area and do those quests. This is what I did. By the time your done you can head to the next area and then ping pong like this back and forth all the way to 80. As a bonus you make a lot more coin and get more rewards.
I will admit this game does feel like everchase pvp (eq2). I’ve done this topic to death so I’ll just sum up the outcome.
You have players that want commitment: You engage it’s a commitment, be a man duke it out and see who the successor is
You have players that must win: Ego protection mechanics, run come back with more people because there’s a chance you’ll lose.
This will ultimately made people upset. But it’s the truth. Both sides can argue the value each and what they prefer but in the end it’s what they prefer.
287hrs in game and not 1. and i mean not 1 drop or story item i could use.
Its not the game’s fault you totally outlevelled the story quests before doing them. Its just as with every game out there, some hardcore freaks like you amass my years’ playtime in weeks and then complain that there’s nothing to do, bad loot blabla.
You will burn out in about 2-3 weeks and never tough gw2 again, while I will still enjoy the game months from now.
But hey, i also got a wife, job and outdooors time
Or perhaps after beating the streets a few hours a day and checking every job site under the sun each day, some cheap entertainment to pass the time since the layoff.
Amen OP!
Even at level 80 spending countless hours farming I must mention out of all the mmo’s I’ve played and this is dating back to 1996 mind you, I haven’t failed more at making money then in this game. Granted it is in fact new, and new to me. But by now I should have a system that works and that’s efficient.
I always farm a lot in mmos. Invest a great deal in time farming always to ensure when I’m not farming I can enjoy myself to the fullest, or at least from a pretty good position from my spoils from all said farming.
Not here, travel, repair, deaths, PVP adds up a lot. On top of which the drop rate on items and the value is quite low in retrospect on the investment you put in. It’s a slow painful crawl and a bit more demanding then I’m willing to except.
I just logon now to play WvW, I do find that activity fun. As for continuing to farm for exotic gear, it’s a bit too demanding for me. Just isn’t what I feel is reasonable. I haven’t checked if this game allows real money trade for currency but I’m assuming that’s the objective with the current system. I don’t do real money trade, I play to save money not spend it. I hope that the Diablo example would put a nail in that coffin on terms of RTM thinking.
Loot:
Maybe it’s something I just need to get used to but with all the running around shooting and slashing I hardly have time to check for loot bags on the ground in the action as your attention should be directed at the reds in front of you. It would be wonderful if it automatically looted right to your inventory. Not game breaking but would sure be convenient. I spend a lot of time running back doing loot sweeps or dying missing out on my rewards. Not a major thing here but with the battle being focused around coin and costs of repair I felt it was noteworthy.
Finishing a player
To be direct I really dislike having to finish a player. Some of examples of why I don’t like it.
This has happened more than once, get in a 2v1 situation you manage to down player 1, but now do you sit there for 5-10 seconds trying to finish the player off while the other player gets free uncontested dps on your or do you fight player 2 and have player 1 come back to life?
Example 2: Someone dies, well sort of. There they are on the ground trying to regen to full, you have a wave of ton of players running over there to finish them off. All these players for a guy stuck on the ground when the focus should really be on the fight at hand, but alas this is the only way to get rewarded, or at least the only slight chance for a token.
Personally I’d like to see it removed from PVP, but I’m sure there’s many of the opposite opinion. To create the other side, I have fallen to the ground, regenerated and popped back up and killed people before. Given the choice, 1 death should be enough however, I lost and in my eyes there’s no reason I should have another shot.
Repairs
To be fair I understand some coin sinks are required to keep a balance. However I feel it should be PVE only, it’s a bit of a deterrent and it’s hard to come by as is. Perhaps this is your way of having players go out and farm for a while so not only spend your time in PVP. Whatever the reason I’d appreciate if you give it another thought.
Well that’s it, Thanks for the hard work putting this all together. I just wanted to communicate my experiences and hope that my experiences made aid in the making of further improvements.
Thanks!
I must admit I really like World vs. world. Really just a great system at its core of ingenuity and idea’s for something a bit fresh. You don’t get anything out of it in terms of rewards (more on that later) however It can be fun. With that said I feel there are a few tweaks that could really put it over the top.
Upgrades, Blueprints:
How about some WvW currency only? What I mean is, when you kill a player, complete an objective. This gives you WvW currency that may only be spent in WvW. You can use this currency to purchase upgrades and/or blueprints.
At this time the only method is using coin. Money is real tight for many of us. Heck I’ve been farming for days at 80 and I’m still broke. It’s quite hard to come by and I can understand why 30 players are attacking Keep doors with no rams or any other support because obtaining wealth isn’t easy, at least this early in the game before more efficient methods are discovered and shared.
However this game was designed with fun in mind with no end game, it’s the journey. How’s a level 12 player going to net that kind of coin? It really takes away from what WvW could be with the use of those support items.
While my WvW currency may not exactly be a fix, or liked. Something other than coin could potential make the experience more rich, no pun intended.
Badges of Honor and its uses:
Items can be purchased with Badges. Hey that’s great, kill players have fun and get rewards too, now that’s what I’m talking about you rock! Somehow I think what’s occurring with the system at the present wasn’t intended. What I mean is I’ve played WvW for a good 7 hours, that’s a decent investment. I earned 30 badges in that time. What can I purchase with the time invested, nothing. That’s why I feel it may not have worked out as it was supposed to be. I mean if I farmed monsters for 7 hours which I have! I could get at least 2-3 Comparable exotic gear.
Personally I would enjoy myself much more in WvW if my time had value, outside server bonuses.
Badges of Honor Drops, how do I get them?
From experience the only way I’ve obtained them is by finishing a player off. Which in the chaotic state of zerg warfare is not exactly easy. I’d say 1 out of 4 to 5 players might drop 1 or 2 if you happen to get there in time.
What’s frustrating is if you run off by yourself and get a nice 1v1 their at 10% someone from your team comes over and helps, kills them then takes your badge. To expand a bit further, some classes by design are range and are required to kite. These classes are more at a disadvantage. I typically duo with a friend, I always walk away at the end of the night with more tokens because I’m melee and in close range to the corpse.
Badges of Honor Change Suggestions:
Kill a player, get a badge. I’ve killed 362 players I think last I checked, never mind all the objectives completed, end result 30 badges.
Complete an objective get X amount of tokens, naturally things like Keeps or harder objectives should scale with reward naturally.
To each their own of course.
Leveling up I enjoyed myself. Once I hit 78 and took a look at the gear on the market. I didn’t see the stats I wanted which was disappointing. Mainly was looking for +vit + toughness gear.
I joined wvw, although I don’t enjoy zerg pvp I like something on a more personal level like 1v1. I spent a few hours in there this morning, capturing stuff and killing people. The only reason I was in there was the gear vendors had the desire stats I was looking for. After said two hours I had zero tokens that’s needed to purchase said gear.
Found a couple pieces of gear via karma vendor. Spent a few hours running around hoping to luck out and reach an event in time. The majority of my time was searching, looking, hoping not actually working towards anything. In the end I made like 2k karma after a few hours. Each piece, from memory ran like 41k karma. I spent 0 Karma leveling up and only had 40k end game >.>
The farming route would be the most appealing route, for me at least since I can constantly work rather than run around and receive no rewards, little rewards or bet on luck. But no gear to speak of that I’ve found in the last 4 days checking the market frequently. Perhaps that’s subject to change as more crafting stuff is discovered.
Looking at the big picture however, even if I found an efficient reasonable, I stress reasonable, way to grind some gear. In the end what would it matter? What wealth does it really have? There is currently really not incentive to grind for gear because it’s not required with no end game content with gear checks in place. While I think that’s awesome I really do, what value does level have or gear at any point in the game? Outside being high enough to see instance content, really none.
At the present with the choices available there’s really no reason to continue that I’ve discovered, yet. I’m still open minding and doing research I haven’t crafted much perhaps I can do it via that route. But excluding that unexplored possibility there’s not many direction on things to do. Sure you can roll another character and try something new, take a few different routes in terms of zones to see a little different content. Once that’s explored in the end you’re in the exact same spot with, what to do?
Just so you don’t take me out of context here, I do enjoy this game there’s still a lot to be uncovered yet. I’m just communicating what I’ve seen so far and experienced, not hating on the game.
In terms of that artical I feel it has value. It wasn’t a troll but a thought out concern communicated with some truth.
Thanks guys for the advice i’ll look in to that from both of those directions. Much appreicated, really!
Greetings,
Pretty new to game, level 77 right now and was taking a look at some of the 80 gear and wasn’t happy with what I saw, or at least the lack there of.
During leveling I struggled for a while until I got full sets of gear with the following stats on each piece.
+Vit
+Toughness
After which while the damage was not superb my survivability was awesome and I prefer a more tanky approach.
Once I hit about 50 I haven’t seen a single piece with both those stats on it together so I had to made due and went towards a more offensive build to complement what’s available. I admit however I dislike the build and dps approach very much compared to the more tanky setup I had being able to survive long fights or long kites.
Now that I’m approaching 80 I checked the market for each piece of armor. None of which have both of those stats. What gives?
If that’s truly not an option. What would you recommend in terms of stats to shoot for? I’ve been going with +power and precession, but mainly because I was forced to after 45.
I should note this is mainly for PVE, mostly solo with grouping once in a while. PVP is a zerg fest and a lot of chasing, not really my cup of tea for style of PVP so I’ve only spent like 3 hours in wvw, perhaps a little more in the near future but not much.
Thanks!
