Archage is dead? Someone needs to tell the players. The forum is still running and the people playing don’t know the game is dead. They’re sitting there discussing various topics. Archage forum
Obviously the game still has players. But understand Archeage lost thousands of players, it wasn’t a small amount by any means. There are servers that have decent population still but many are getting merged because most of them are “dead”. Why do you think they finally went back and made things work out with Valve? Now it’s on Steam to recoup the population and much of the money they lost due to the apex exploit that destroyed the economy and hurt their profits. While steam is attracting more players they are losing more people than they are gaining and currently I’d say they are trying to stay a float with say… roughly 1/4 – 1/3 of the community they once had. I know way more than I want to about all this crap and probably more than a lot of people unfortunately.
Hi,
Me and my friends made a small guild(6 people) and I was wondering if that will that be enough to claim a guild hall? Does the capture event scale with the number of people in the guild or will only guild with a set amount of member be allowed to get guild halls?
They stated that a smaller guild could do it but it will take a lot longer.
You know the Specialisations are getting released on Tuesday whether you are buying HoT or not, right? xD
I’m interested in knowing what all is in the expansion besides the little bit we know currently. The rebalance in my opinion isn’t apart of the expansion as it’s happening for players if they get the expansion or not.
Oh you mean a part. Apart actually gives it the opposite meaning.
Yeah, they really need to release everything that is in the expansion. This blind buying with no character slot is ridiculous.
Yes, I obviously meant a part and not apart. I’m not exactly the best when it comes to typing. I sometimes make a decent amount of mistakes when it comes to typing up something and the edit becomes my best friend. I’m sure you will notice my punctuation or lack there of as well as using capital letters and also sometimes I use internet speak like u instead of the proper word. But those are actually things I choose to do because I feel like it.
I have contacted the customer service and they don’t do any 60 day refunds. 30 days if you want to dispose your current account. No HoT upgrade or anything that sort.
Yes that’s correct it was 30 days not 60, that was a mistake on my part. I’ve fixed it in the OP. I’m going to include the word for word email I received back from a supervisor to it as well.

Core of the problem: False Advertising.

Ignore the fact that a group of people is getting something for free while the other doesn’t.
That is a minor issue, they can do something about it or not.The real problem however is that ever since they announced HoT, they said you would need the base game.
For months they had sales of the game, for months they profited with that information. And now all of a sudden the FAQ changes and states that HoT includes the base game for free.
What has Anet done so far to adress this issue? A single forum post saying people could look for a refund? That may or may not work?
How many of those customers will actually see that forum post? (I can’t even find it on the forums anymore)
Where is the blog post about it? The twitter about it? The email about it? The full list of what people can expect when getting refunded? Will they lose their account, will they lose the link they made with GW1? What are their going to do about people who bought the game in another store? There were sales all over the place because of THEIR information.
Another problem:
Their pre-purchase video says we will get access to the heart of the maguuma, but during the beta we had to complete that piece of the living story to enter it. Is that final?
If I pre-purchase do I get the whole Season 2? The lack of info, and the fear that info may change at any time is a serious concern when money is involved.
Also: Forget the price.
Just to give you some insight, people can in fact get a refund but there’s 2 conditions as explained to me by a supervisor. Here’s the word for word response from him..
Game Support Supervisor:Unfortunately, there is nothing we can offer at this time. If the purchase was made via our buy.guildwars2.com site within 30-days ago, we would offer to refund the initial purchase and disable the code so that you can purchase the expansion of your choice. We don’t have any other expansion purchase options at this time.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I am sure ANet was anticipating the obvious outcry Blizzard had when they announced their plan.
I’m new here but I need to understand something. Why does Blizzard or World of Warcraft even get brought up. It doesn’t matter what WoW does compared to anything..
WoW is a game with a sub and not a non sub retail game that requires one purchase. It’s not the same and shouldn’t be compared. Wow is one of the only exceptions in the industry to be able to pull off a sub model extremely successfully and for many years. Most companies who try to make a subscription based game end up going free to play, take Wildstar as a shining recent example. Most games are moving toward free 2 play. Some good models and bad. Comparing this game to WoW is crazy, it’s not the same pay model at all. If you want to compare it to MMO games that are similar compare it to Crowfall, ESO, Elite: Dangerous and EVE Online.
Pre-Purchase grants two things. So I'll wait.

At first I was a bit annoyed with the pricing, not outraged just annoyed enough to take a break from the game. But now I’ve come to terms with how I’m going to approach this whole thing. Simply I’m not going to pre-purchase the game at all.
This is because pre-purchasing only gives two things; Weekend Beta access and a title.
1. Beta Access: This is the only reason to pre-order because you get to experience Weekend Beta which is a whole lot better than the Portal beta event. Which sucked for me since it clashed with sleep and work (Australia based player who got 5 minutes of beta at 6:00am before leaving for the train). I had a bad experience with HoT beta so far, so although weekend events are so much better, I’m cool with skipping them because it means very little in the grand scheme if I eventually end up playing the final product. Besides whatever time you spend in the beta is eventually erased when your beta character is deleted.
2. Maguuma Trailblazer title: Way too regionally specific and actually doesn’t mean a whole lot. Especially since you can only equip one title and there are dozens of others that actually set you apart in terms of achievement.
So I’m going to do the following:
1. Wait for an actual release date and more details of content.
2. Continue to play but casually and without buying anymore gems.
3. Purchase the expansion when I feel the need to. There are still some base game things I need to do like level some characters to lv80 and do some world completion stuff. I can live with missing out on a couple of weeks of HoT since I did miss out on LS Season 1.I mean who knows what other price shenanigans they’ll pull in the future with HoT, they might even do a small Holiday sale.
As things are right now, there isn’t a whole lot that has actually changed aside from the price inequity (which has been covered extensively). HoT hasn’t even gone live or close to it. I could frame this as a protest but it’s just me stepping back and looking at this objectively. The things I actually care about is what HoT will deliver, we need to ensure it is first worth the money. So I’ll wait and watch what unfolds.
In my opinion it doesn’t seem like the marketing team or the decision makers of the company made good choices. I’m currently dealing with something as a new player but I’ll put that aside and say.. what incentives do I have to actually pre-purchase? A title which really has no baring to me especially being new and not knowing the game that well. And then there’s Beta weekends.. which I would think they would want everyone to do. It’s a beta.. it’s to get feedback.. bug reports..etc. etc. In my opinion this should be allowed to the whole community. I’m surprised they don’t have a public test server. Does the company have whitelist testers from the community or no?
It would be nice to know also everything that is included. It probably would help many people decide already what they want to do.
Contact support. You should be able to upgrade your account to a HoT prepurchase deal.
I actually sent an email to the company and even got it elevated to a supervisor. They aren’t doing any upgrade for this. The supervisor stated if I purchased the game off the GW2 site within 30 days they could give a refund. That’s all the will do. I did’t get into all of that in the OP but I got the info I listed from a supervisor.
EDIT: Error in days. I changed it from 60 days to 30.

This whole situation reminds me of how Trion tried to kitten their playerbase with archeage with false promises and lying to the community. Guess what happened?
They got caught and now archeage is dead within 6 months of release and Trions company reputation is forever smeared for trying to pull the covers over the heads of their players
I remember Archeage very well. I followed it long before it came to the USA and I played it since the beginning of the disaster known as the launch. Lots of things went wrong from 6-16 hour queue times, to many cheaters and exploiters to Trion not being honest on several things which included a what I shall call a " huge staff member " playing off the Apex exploit by saying it was only a few people which was definitely not the case. Both Trion and XL Games are to blame for numerous reason. This is the last MMORPG I played before coming to GW2.
As unfortunate as what is happening here is the GW2 HoT presale announcement is no where close to what happened on Archeage and honestly I don’t think it’s similar either. I understand what you are saying but I think you’ve given a really bad comparison.
You might want to google ‘heart of thorns presale’. Someone in the megathread linked two game store sites (around page 82 I think) where you can pre-order the expansion for way way way less… and apparently standalone.
Don’t do that, Arena Net posted not long ago that the only site offering preorders is their official website or get in their ingame store.
Any other source is not trustworthy.
Ya I posted it in response. Check above.

I’m not sure if you read this or not yet..
Hey all,
Heart of Thorns is currently only available offically to purchase through our purchase site and in-game through the gem store. There have been a number of 3rd Party websites/services offereing Heart of Thorns for sale, and none of them are currently officially authorized to do so.
These sites are most likely getting their keys through fraudulent practices, which means there is a VERY high chance that if you purchase from these websites that the key will be disabled shortly after. This will result in your account being closed for fraud, and Customer Service will require that you purchase HoT though legitimate means before you can access your account again.
For your account’s sake, please be careful when purchasing your HoT key through a 3rd party (right now).
To clarify:
The only way to officially Pre-Purchase right now is through the official GW2 website, or in-game. This does not cover Pre-Ordering, which may exist on a number of reputable resellers. Pre-Purchase and Pre-Order are different.
Hello GW2 community,
I recently bought the game. I’d say it was probably less than 2 weeks before the announcement of the HoT presale announcement. Now if you bought from the actual GW2 site you can get refund if it was purchased within 30 days, and I’m glad that Arenanet does at least do that. Unfortunately I didn’t buy from the GW2 site and bought mine from a different retailer so there’s no chance for a refund. I’m sure some of you probably did the same thing I did and now are doing exactly what I’m doing, which is shaking my head and saying to myself wow I feel like I flushed money down the toilet. The price I spent around 2 weeks ago plus the 50 dollars for the new expansion(which comes with what I just purchased for free) is a pretty decent size price tag. I got the game because the FAQ stated it was needed and I knew the expansion was coming out… and to find out a short time later I could of gotten it for free with the expansion. This just didn’t leave a good impression on me at all. I highly doubt I’m going to buy the expansion because this and it’s unfortunate cause that’s why I bought the game in the first place. I chose this to invest my money and time into instead of another IP and now I’m starting to feel like it was a mistake.
This is the word for word response from support after I’ve got the elevation level raised to a supervisor.

On some positive notes most of the people I’ve met in the game are really friendly and helpful. I’ve heard a lot of great things about this community, it was actually a big deciding point which finally got me to get this game after all these years. I’ve been around awhile and played at least 80 online games since the start. I’ve played games that had extremely toxic communities and ones that had good ones, from what I’m told this is a good one and as I mentioned it was definitely a deciding factor in my choice to purchase the game. Unfortunately the presale announcement has brought out the worst in the community from the looks of the forums. Something has to change.. this isn’t good for the game. I don’t know how well Arenanet takes feedback from the community but I hope they are listening cause some are making valid points.

the people that just recently bought the core game.
Ya I’m not a happy customer to be honest. I just found out about 2 hours ago that they included GW2 base game for free with the purchase of the expansion. I just got the game a week or two ago and I bought it because the faq said it was needed. I definitely would of waited to buy it today had I’d known that and I most likely would of picked up the deluxe edition.
Said people can get the core game refunded entirely. There’s already been Dev posts about it. :>
I’m new to the forums, can you show me where the devs stated that? I really would like to do that if possible. Thanks in advance.
