…this better become retroactive soon. Very annoying trying make achievement progress like this.
Hell, i’d just like to see a dev do a proper PvE stream on Thief, maybe some Fractals or Dungeons. All I can ever remember seeing was Golems or Downed…..
PvP Stream on Thief??? Riiiight,……..
omfg after 9 attempts on this instance i give up.
There is literally a new bug every time i try to do it or work my way around a previous one.
Tried solo, 2 Players, 3 Players, 4 Players…..every. single. attempt a fail due to bugs.
Considering how long this fight lasts the previous 2 times i attempted to do it all i hoped for was that it would bug early instead of in the last phase. An amazing amount of time wasted attempting to finish this. Sooooo frustrated right now!
If you guys need more testers for future content (instances, Class Changes, etc.) i will gladly volunteer…just saying….seems like you guys could use a hand. <3
Final story boss encounter insanely buggy
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Troublesome.5670
Yes, the part where you have to fly or shield yourself is waaaay buggy and if you die on this part the bugs get progressively worse for every death. Things like being perma-pulled/knocked down when nothing is around you, summoned mobs randomly resetting, Caithe (i chose Caithe and Braum) randomly vanishing and resetting. Disappearing platforms, Mord attacking with everything he has from the start, constant interrupts when trying to open portals….the list goes on. If i manage to get in the air after all this, the shooting eye things knock me out as soon as i start to ascend…..not to mention the boulders afterwards. Once i fall it is impossible to get back up again.
This would be massively frustrating for 2-3 players, let alone trying to do it solo. After breaking my armor twice I logged and decided maybe i could RnG a non-buggy fight tomorrow.
P.S. I think this encounter received as much testing as the “new” Daredevil spec….(random QQ) =P
From my perspective DD pales in comparison in terms of creativity. Reaper is what a base elite spec should be. It just blows so much out of the water on how awesome Reaper is to play…
That being said, Staff and Daredevil are still very good. With the right build, where Thief struggled with damage mitigating and conditions, Daredevil doesn’t. I counted it out as a bad elite spec pretty early but theory crafted something which strengthens a Thief’s weaknesses.
Being able to go toe-to-toe with a D/D Cele Ele for over 5 minutes and almost beat him (until he got ran over by a 5 man Roaming party) felt amazing. Not once did I stop and think:
“kitten, these burns are killing me. Oh my god he’s just gone from 25% to 100% with his water rotation” (If I had Impact Strike I could’ve stopped his water rotations but w/e).
Yes they gutted acro, yes some of the animations are still a little wonky, yes they’ve reused old animations, yes it’s not a mind blowing Elite spec.
But with a well crafted build then Daredevil stands up against FOTM and OP builds.
I’ve started to get the hang of some of the tactics needed for this spec after rerolling most of my gear, it still feels underwhelming compared to the others but not quite as god awful as i first thought. Do you mind sharing the build ur talking about? or at least some of the highlights?
I found the condition clearing to actually be the weakpoint of DD…maybe ur using another synergy I’m not?
As I struggle through HoT using the “elite” DD Staff spec, after reading all the great suggestions on forums that went ignored, with the gutting and re-gifting of Acro, and as I lay dead watching other specs /laugh at me with my previous 3 years of GW2 Thief life flashing before my eyes….the question that i kept asking myself was…..why? Just. Why?
Just checked out my CC statement after my preorder and noticed some extra charges:
2x $49.99 (only 1×49.99 shown on confirmation email)
1x $20.00 (from anet at the same time as order, again not shown on order invoice)
Add this to an overdraft fee i ended up being charged over $155 for my preorder of standard edition HoT.
This is crazy. I submitted a ticket ASAP but im afraid i will only be refunded the second $50 charge and still be screwed out of an extra $100.
Has anyone else had this happen to them??? If so, how did Anet resolve it and how quickly? Thank you in advance for feedback.

After watching some gameplay for Rev Shiro I couldn’t help feeling as though i was watching what Sword thief should have been….it gave me chills. Maybe it’s time to reroll to Rev? I’m beginning to think that’s what the devs want thieves to do. The animations and skills look amazing.
Already gathering stuff to reroll when HoT drops. Shiro looks incredibly fun and I too got the “S/D” feels from it.
Yup, i’m beginning to think that i know what i’m going to do with all my exp scrolls and ascended mats now….
After hearing about the state of thief as it is and as it’s going to be, i believe i will still get the expansion, but roll and play a Rev until thief is either phased out completely or is entirely reworked. A year away from the game and a new expansion just on the horizon and thief is in the same (worse?) place that it was when i left….thats inexcusable imo, therefore I won’t support it. Thank you to everyone for feedback so far =D
Wait, so we got an extra dodge bar, but our endurance regen didn’t increase to reflect the bigger Endurance pool? In other words, we recharge dodges at about the same rate as other professions? So that means once we use that third dodge we are almost on the same playing field as everyone else as far as dodge mechanics are concerned?
I noticed there is a trait we have now that increases the regen from Vigor boon, but, tbh, i couldn’t tell much of a difference with or without it.
And yeah, Pistols have been Meh for so long i’d almost forgotten that I could use one in MH. As well as Scorpion Wire being buggy at max range. Wow, those issues have been around for ages and still haven’t been addressed? I thought after being away for over a year that maybe Thief would have gotten some attention by now….

I at least expected our endurance to regen noticably faster than all the other professions given that its our Elite Spec’s main selling point. Hmmmm.
DD is Acro 2.0 because the devs thought it was cool to destroy acro so we all need DD to be more evasive which apparently will be pointless in new content as not all damage can be dodged…
So, if I understand you correctly, they are giving thief back Acro just in time for it to be ineffective? That doesn’t seem to make much sense. Why give a class with very little base survivability a core survival mechanic (as well as base an entire “new” Elite Spec around it)while knowing ahead of time that will be generally ineffective?
I mean, that takes the redesign from the realm of lazy and uncreative into the realm of spitefully and knowingly aiming for failure.
Again, I hope I am missing something, because i love this game and love thief but am having a hard time justifying buying the expansion from what i’m hearing.
Hey everyone,
I just recently returned to GW2 after about a year break when I heard that they were finally gonna release an expansion. So naturally i was excited to see all the changes.
Well, the first thing i noticed when i logged back on my thief was all the trait changes. Apparently since i’d been gone they made our acrobatics line really meh by taking away feline grace (more players complaining it was OP i guess?). This move really confused me because when i left it seemed that the devs were trying to steer thieves away from pure stealth builds and towards builds like i was using for WvW and PvE before i left ( S/D, S/P. SB evasion spec which i really enjoyed). Taking away that extra dodge really hurt my survival and i felt a little kitten when i came back.
Anyways, I looked past this because we were getting a sweet new Elite Spec in the Expansion, right? I was about to preorder but decided to wait until I could read some feedback from my fellow thieves as well as watch some livestreams to understand all the awesome changes coming.
This is the part that I’m confused about.
From everything I’ve seen and read it seems to me that our new Elite Spec is a repackaged version of the spec I was already using before I left and before the nerf??
Relying on dodging and evasion for survival isn’t a new concept to me. The only difference I’m seeing is that by using Staff instead of, let’s say, S/P, I’m losing an aoe blind field for stomp preventions or trash clearing in PvE.
I’m naturally thinking that I’m missing some core changes that Daredevil brings. Some of the abilities on dodge seem somewhat counterintuitive to me. Specifically the damaging slam one. I mean, I’m used to dodging to live, not attack, although the Lotus Blossom one seems kinda cool for a condi build.
Anyways, i’m rambling on, but my point is this:
It seems like the “new” elite spec is just a repackaged version of the spec i was used to running before – only now they are charging $60 to use it??? If so, this is just showing a terrible lack of creativity on the Devs part. And, aside from Ele (not impressed with the changes), it makes the new thief Elite Spec seem really bad compared to the others and more like an afterthought. Am I missing some other changes? I would like to preorder but I’d really appreciate some clarification before I do!
Thanks in advance to any answers! =D
Even though I main a crit dmg build in pve I mostly agree with the nerf to crit dmg as it seems anet is trying to make other builds more viable. However, one problem I’ve noticed in PvE is the way conditions are applied to an enemy. A pure condition build character gets screwed out of much of their DPS due to overwrites from other non-condi build players. Both duration and stacks. Because of the way conditions are applied in a group setting it makes the individual’s condition build FAR less effective as direct damage. You want to make other builds more viable PvE? Start with a condition overhaul. I understand that it would require a massive reworking in how the game keeps track of the individual’s damage output and duration numbers, but it’s desperately needed. Even if the game registers the highest duration as the set duration for all of a certain condition and/or the highest condition damage taking precedence for all the other stacks of a certain condition, no matter when or who is applying. Doing this would make condition builds more valued in pve as it would enhance other’s conditions that are “accidentally” applied through their basic rotations. Or just keeping track of everyone’s conditions separately. I’m just tossing ideas out there, I’m sure other people have much better suggestions.
Honestly I think every class should have been given their own specific type of condition from the start that would register completely independent of other classes. That might cut down on a lot of the overwrites at least in a small group setting with no double classes present.
Upon successful completion, scarlet will walk to her quarters where u follow and enter a personal instance which rewards u with skin/title. If you didn’t make it to this point, prolly not a win. Also if u have the backpiece equipped you can go to the far portal on the East side of LA and enter the personal instance without the fight if u wanted the skin/title. Hope this helps.
I just finally completed(after killing all the knights for three hours and having it bug out until this last time), or at least I thought I had, the fight with Scarlet and her holograms with a group that got in and I got nothing at the end. I could live with that if it was the same for everyone but at least one of the people in the group that was in there at the same time got the achievement and Scarlet’s Veil Skin. I know they were there because they were in the same chat as everyone else that were giving direction on what to do next.
All I know is after killing the final big boss after the smaller ones appeared, we were told to get out before the cannon went off and everyone ran for the exit and I ended up back in LA…. with nothing, no achievement, no skin… nada(unless you count the 8890 exp I gained after hitting the Microsynergetic Hologram for 0 using Crossfire just before she went down and we got booted.)
Same talked a friend into coming back to GW2 for the event, and brought him thru to kill the Knights (for the 5 boxes each) and also Scarlet Holo fight. None of the champs gave loot for either of us and I’m a zerker ele and he is a zerker thief. Constant dps, no downs. Scarlet Holo bugged at about 25% and never split. This was AFTER the fix. =/
So why no tags on knights? I mean, after 33% HP I’m constantly hitting 9k,9k,9k,10k,9k. As well as my friend. If that’s not enough dps, what is? lol
Yeah I agree, I don’t want a refund. It’s my fault for assuming the 25 pack would be the best deal then getting it only to look twice a min later and realize my mistake. However, it does leave a bad taste in my mouth and though it might be my fault I still feel like I was tricked. Making a middle-number amount the cheapest was an odd move, since if they wanted the 5 packs to sell even better (maybe based on sales history) I would have thought they would have slapped a “Best Deal” label over it in order to bring it to the customer’s attention. But they didn’t which leads me to believe they were hoping I wouldn’t notice. I dunno, like I said, it’s my fault for not paying attention……however, I do not think I will be purchasing keys in bulk from them again.

So I was thinking, since Mesmer gets stealth, why shouldn’t thief get a clone…just one!
Call the skill Shadow Dance and make it an elite with a fair CD, 240+.
When you activate the skill you briefly gain stealth and summon a mirror image of yourself. The clone then mirrors the thief’s movements (moving the opposite or mirror image of the way you do) for 30 sec. up to a range of 1600.
Clone does 0 damage and expires after 30 seconds, when killed or when thief gains Revealed debuff.
Would it be OP? ehhh, iono, it’s debatable. But kitten it’d be fun! =)
How about Last Refuge procs an aoe fear ( like 1.5 sec) then stealths you. So there most likely wont be anyone around to accidentally hit. I mean if an enemy has stability, sure it might be a problem. But I think 9/10 it would work. Give it a fair CD and call it a day.
Also, ahem, lets go ahead and give our Steal skill a passive 1 condition removal…possibly an automatic 1 boon steal as well =) Just cuz some builds don’t want to rely on stealth and are afraid to give up the dps or little survivability to go 20 points into trickery. Group Synergy baby!!! hahaha
So in the live stream, the devs promised “good thief changes” then when they release the pre-patch notes for discussion they completely forget to even include thief in the mix! haha That pretty much sums up Anets attitude towards thieves…just a litte memo lost in the break room. Then when they later “edited” us in, this is what we get:
Thief:
Much like the engineer, we wanted to take this opportunity to tone-down excessive poison stacking through poison fields.
•Choking Gas: Reduced the poison per pulse from 5 seconds to 3 seconds.
Awesome changes indeed! <3
I really hope you guys are just holding something spectacular back for later!
Yeah, im not saying thieves aren’t a good class to play. What im saying is that in order to BE a good class the player skill level needs to be higher on average than most others simply because the lack of care in design/redesign. There is far less room for error playing thief than almost all other classes. And yes, most good statics want at least 1 thief but its almost always for SR rezzing/skipping mobs or tricks like running bombs or stealthing on door in dredge fractals. If a group wants melee dps 9/10 times they will request a warrior. But some good thieves are wanted in static groups simply because they are an above average player and would do just as well on almost any class they brought. This isn’t a QQ thread about thieves sucking. It’s a thread about Anet’s complete lack of understanding of a class they created to be one thing, then readjusting/nerfing it until they have the class cornered into a really tight spot.
Elite trap skill? How about an elite skill that gives us a mirror image clone that does 0 dmg but mimics our movements for a set amount of time like 30 seconds or something, 180 sec. CD, usable while stealthed. That might be interesting…..or iono. something different besides stuff no one uses. At the very least, no more nerfs….kitten .
“I assure you, the utilities thieves have are second to none in terms of survivability, and comparing thief to Ele is not that wise atm. However, I must admit that warriors are definitely easier to play and Thieves get constant nerves every patch.”
I’m not sure if I’d go so far as to say thief’s utilities are second to none for survivability. Running away? Maybe. But survivability? Not so much. No stability. 1 condition removal skill and a signet that removes 1 condition on active. (not counting stealth skills). No regen or boons of any kind besides Shadow Trap (which is buggy as hell). Sure, we get swiftness in acrobatics….like I said, running away. I won’t list my all my alt’s utility skills that are far better, too many to list. Basically thieves were originally designed to attack hard fast and run away. All our skills are designed around this premise. ( Wont even comment on condition thief’s limited condition application and lackluster venom skills). What I’m saying is they have taken away the “attack hard and fast” part or at least severely hampered it, as well as making the “run away” part harder to do. So what are we left with? Prolonged engagements that thieves weren’t designed to handle. I’m not saying thieves are unplayable by any means, what I’m saying we need a serious reworking and not some troll changes or nerfs. An elite trap that knocks back? Don’t we already have a trap that knocks down that no one uses??? lol (I really hope that post was a joke). Anyways, that’s what im saying. Anet royally screwed thieves by nerfing what we were designed to be and giving us nothing to balance it out.
Hi I’m just curious….I recently came back to the game after a long break and was going over some of the changes that I had missed in the recent patches and all I can say is….wow. Majorly nerfed damage…no added survival to account for it. Hard to Catch? Assassin’s Reward? wtf? Does anyone at anet even play a thief? I understand some players in wvw get frustrated fighting thieves because they don’t understand the class or how to counter so they QQ about stealth needing nerfed or more damage reductions etc. But wow Anet….ever try playing as a thief?
Anyone that seriously plays a thief realizes that stealth/dodge-evade is pretty much our sole means of survival. Limited condition removal, low hp/toughness. Lack of good utility choices (Shadowstep, SR, Blinds are basically it) forces us into a corner. We need high dps or we die or more survival/utility. How you gonna take both away? LOL
No wonder so many thieves stay cheese perma-stealthed or spam evades…..it’s all they can do.
Ele’s will say, well they have low HP and lower toughness. But come on, the utility Ele’s get are second to none. Cantrips, Auras, Chill, Knockbacks, Regen, Vigor, burst heals, condition removals, high mobility. All while doing good dps even without going full zerker.
Don’t get me started on pve……how many thieves you see running the harder pve dungeons/high level fractals??? ok, yeah, there is a reason for that.
I recently read you have some major changes coming for thieves “good” changes.
Well, I hope to god that supposed Elite skill is a troll cuz if its not you might as well make the new Assassin’s Reward trait an instant, free reroll to warrior.
kitten Anet…kitten
Ok, lol, im done QQing. Just needed to vent. Time to login and level my kitten y kitten warrior. <3 …….I cant even type kitten . without it being nerfed….
(edited by Troublesome.5670)
I understand that you’re mad about dieing to thieves all the time, but seriously, take your QQ somewhere else and stop making QQ threads in the thief forum.
My main is a thief S/d and no I don’t die to d/p thieves all the time. But I play other classes as well. And while I don’t care what thieves do as far as stealth spamming….that’s their play style. But All I hear about it in WvWvW is other ppl QQing about it. So do you think Anet won’t cave in to constant QQ about thieves spam stealthing? I’m not so sure and i’m just waiting for it to happen. All I am doing is offering a different solution before another nerf sets in that messes with other Thief builds that don’t rely on cheese stealth-spams. I’m guessing you are a d/p thief, am I right? lol
I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about the possibility of stealth being nerfed again due to chain-stealthing thieves. Although I agree the combo-finisher tactic can be cheesy at times, I don’t think stealth needs to be nerfed again. So I have a suggestion on how to adjust stealth:
Anet sets a limitation, say 10 seconds of stealth in a 30-45 second period. If a thief has used up all 10 seconds of stealth-time before the 30-45 second marker they get a revealed debuff for, say, 15-20 seconds. If the allotted 10 seconds of stealth-time isn’t used up in 30-45 seconds, the timer resets. This way a thief cant constantly stay stealthed unless they are trying to get away because most fights will last longer than 30-45 seconds. Also, for the thieves that don’t spam stealth to play they won’t get penalized for other ppls tactics. This would make the players that have to rely on spam-stealthing rethink when and how they use their stealth just like when and how to use initiative.
I’m not saying the timing is right on this suggestion but the overall Idea is one that I wouldn’t mind being in place.
Another bug ive noticed with my thief is shadowstep’s turning me completely around, or even to the side rather then leaving me facing the direction that i was. So say i turn from an enemy and shadowstep away, it will turn me around facing them or sideways at a strange angle – this is very confusing in a dire situation. Same with shadowstepping through an enemy to behind them, it will leave me facing a weird direction other then the direction i was facing when i used the skill…either running me back towards them or into a wall or something….its quite annoying. In WvW or sPvP this is terrible as it slows my reaction time (which is all a thief really has now: stealth and quick reactions =P) Please look into this, as it has happened to me many times resulting in premature death lol
