Druid Form: You become one with nature and disappear off the face of Tyria.
And leave a legendary Kudzu so your Warrior friend can use it better then you do when fully traited for it.
You’re using a PU build and complaining about mobility? You traded off you’re chasing abilities when you went for conditions. Your best hopes are to drop chaos storm and hope for soft CC and use blink + swordleap. Blink is pretty good for catching up.
I usually run phantasm builds and when people start runing away I chuckle. You can’t out run my pink lasers!
I think the skills you mentioned should hit in stealth. Yes.
Channeling a skill just to lose target and get the full CD after putting yourslef in the risk zone and being a free target is ridiculous. Agree with evic. following in stealth though since it’s pretty much instant (are you sure about it following? Never happend to me).
Haha, I have 4. More females then males though. 10/10, I like how the names seem to have the same origin. Here are mine
Qrea Blackwynd
Alsaif – Last name lost
The vigor nerf was coming and you should have seen it miles away. They nerfed the engie perma vigor (almost), the ranger perma vigor and the thiefs vigor. I’m not sure about guard but if they havent done it they will. They simply didn’t want any class to have permanent acces to vigor so easily.
Axe one needs rework. The rest of the MH axe skills are for condibuild (except maybe 3, can be used offensively). Don’t make axes a powerwep.
P.S: Splitblade should be able cast from all directions.
1. Fix sword one so you can actually control your character and play gw2 like an action mmo.
2. Pet survivabilitya nd AI, when you dodge your pet dodges or reduced damage on high hitting AoE attacks.
3. Buff the power builds in terms of survivability.
In case of a thief, I can hang around their group all the while stealthing, all for kittens and giggles, and leave when I decide I’ve had my fun. Maybe even take a couple caught out of position. And this is regardless of how squishy I’m built. Do you not see this as something that’s imbalanced?
Absolutely not. Why? Because it’s by design.
I hate it every single time someone uses that kind of sentence.
Even if there was a class that nobody could ever lose with, and kills everything in one hit, you could use that same sentence to defend it. That argument holds no ground whatsoever. The other thing, if the thief gets overrun, they have to run and hide?
NO!
If a player gets overrun, they die. As simple as that.
If a class can back out at any time, rather than predicting the loss ahead of time and backing out then, it becomes imbalanced.
“Checkmate”
“Nope, I activate stealth. Stinks to be you.”
Well… here’s alist of classes that can do the same thing.
1. Warrior (cant caught, invulnerable and immune to conditions)
2. Ranger. GS leap/Sword leaps + a short amount of stealth.
3. Engineer. East my rocketboots + elixirgun and all the wonders of soft CC, CC and stealth.
4. Mesmer. Stealth and teleports
5. Elemantalist. Yeah, D/D cant be troublesome to catch if played correctly
6. A guardien with sword + gs and the teleport utility. The only downside is that you need a target but on the bright side you have more blocks then anyone in the game.
Classes that can’t run away
7. Necro, the second HP justifies this in 1vs1 but when you’re getting hunted you’re going down.
So much for checkmate.
1. Ranger
2. Ele
3. Necro
I usually don’t have a hard time with them and use asimilar build. Shadowstep is great for catching up/getting the hell out of dodge. I hav inf. signet for when they are about to reset. First things first
1. try to pull off a full D autoattackchani, the last one will apply poison.
2. Blindness on stealth (lifesaver!), you can CnD when they “leap” for the adrenaline stun and it wont hit you because he/she missed. A bit hard to time though.
3. Fight dirty. Reset if you need to because you will have to. Dodge the hammer push (the spin one) in SR to not get owned.
4. You’ve basically won if you get him to 40% or lower and catch him when he’s trying to reset. You need to apply constamd pressure and get the opening right so this happens.
5. For the love of Dod DODGE THE EVISCERATE and SHIELDBASH. You it’s coming when he’s switching his GS.
6. Don’t let ‘em run but chase carefully. Nothing is more annoying then getting a warrior close to the ground and then kiss the ground yourself. Endure pain is a nice tool for this so keep an eye on the buffs. If you’re revealed and he’s inv. apply poison and or get out of range.
7. Use the shortbow. The shortbow tele has a blind and evade. I usually use it when im in trouble. The poison field will reduce his healing effectively if he’s stupid enough to stand in it. Also poison field + clusterbomb = weakness. It will save you from those pesky 7k evisc.
While it’s true beating this warrior spec is kitten D/D it’s not impossible. You just have to play carefully and not allow the warrior to recover because YOU are their worst nightmare. the healing signet is weak against spike builds and if you get that CnD + backstab + autoattackchain off in the start be sure to cripple them with dancing dagger to not let them run away. They will probably use shield/enduer pain at this point so just try to stay alive and get that CnD + backstab combo again or just stay in stealth as soon as they can be damaged again, hit! If they are below 40% it’s a good idea to autoattack and heartseeker.
Practice makes perfect so don’t be discouraged.
Also if you want an easier fight do as the people before me have suggested, get pistoloffhand and stand inthe blindingfield + heartseeker when its about to dissappear. Much more forgiving. with D/D you’ll have to restealth quite a lot and be very aware of your opponents next move. It’s a bit late so I apologise for any spelling mistakes or errors in this post. Good luck fighting the goodfight
I don’t reset a fight more then 3 times.
I only drag my enemies to mobs when they outnumber me.
I give people time to recover from falldamage/taking camps, but once they’ve breathed out I show no mercy.
If you fight without honor, where’s the challenge and reward?
(P.S I NEVER DO THE ABOVE TO OTHER THIEVES, I LIKE BEING EVIL AGAINS TMY OWN KIN.)
I have full knight’s gear trinkets, with transmuted karma gear stats(condition damage, precision, toughness), with 30 into toughness and 30 into beast mastery with shortbow and axe+torch
it sucks in dungeons, and specially wvw and i don’t know what to do with my ranger T _ T
Ugh. Someone might find a build for that to work but I’m a bit lazy so…
If you want to use your trinkets get some zerker gear and jewwels. (Full zerker would be more useful for PvE but it’s a bit annoying on ranger. I love the sword but I also like relaxing when playing). 30/30/10/0 /0 is what I use for WvW and PvE
If you want to use your gear you’re leaning towards a condition build. Trapper for WvW and a more bursty directdamage/condition hybrid in pve.
There are some other builds but it’s too late at night for my poor brain to dunction correctly. I wish you the best of luck!
Your build is very similar to mine. I use flamethrower and elixrgun and it feels so goosoood! Elixirgun really needs more love.
For solo roaming the ranger is great. I use a condition/healing build with BM if I solo which grants pretty quick kills or a more supporty build if I roam with other people.
For the 1vs1x the ranger is great because:
1. You can stomp easily ig you pop RaO or let your pet harass the downed person while you go for the other ones. Chances are you’ll still have stability for a second stomp. You can also stealth stomp with LB. But I agree other classes have an either time stomping (except necros).
2. One important factor for roaming is how fast you can escape. A skilled ranger wont be caught. The sword/dagger is extremely nice with all the evades + the now nerfed natural vigor rangers have is icing on the cake. The power ranger set is also pretty neat for escaping when you use LB+GS.
“I agree that ranger is good at 1v1, but still not the Top1. Mesmer, thief, engi, necro and warrior all have good chance to win or tie a ranger when equally skilled. "
Agree and disagree. There will always be counters. I cant touch a necro on my power build if he uses conditions but with my other roaming build they’re food. When it comes down to a 1vs1 there isn’t a real “top tier”. At least that’s my opnion, some builds have bigger advantages then others and might win. However I have no problems with fighting any class and I do not feel like a build is too strong. unless I’m fighting a tanky warr with healing signet. I actually want to finish the fight before the next server reset.
4. Selfress with the elite spirit. It’s hilarious and rewarding, especially if you get to kill the guy who downed you or is trying to run away from a zerg.
5. The strongest downmode in game. I’ve been able to interupt a stomp 6 times without trying too hard.
I’m intrested in what you think is the best roaming class. Ranger might not be the best one at stomping and escaping but is on good spot. I didnt bring up damage inflicting since it’s on par with other classes if you spike or do conditions.
and about 1vsz, one man versus zerg?
. . .I play all the classes so I guess I’m an enemy to all?
““When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you”” – OP
Depends on how much loot I want. I usually grab basi venom and the immo venom and go for their backline. I try to take the squishest looking targets first (hit them without the venom and then with depending on how hurt they get). That or zerg dive in stealth and posin field them everywhere with shortbow 4 (it wont take you out of stealth ;D) if I can I try doing that in key positions.
Hey! I recently bought my last character slot (I have 8 in total now, one for each proffession) and I have to say all classes are a freat deal of fun to play. Though I dont like my warrior it feels way too easy compared to the finess I use on my other chars. And I have to say the most fun classes to play for me are thief, ranger, engie in that order. Guardian it’s lots of fun as well and just looks so cool so I usually use it. Necro, elementalists doesnt feel like my cup of tea but they’re still fun and I sPvP with them from time to time. Mesmers are, once again, too easy to play.
Thief is probably my favorite because of the no cooldown system and the easy sucesss to stealth. Ranger in my humble opnion have a brutal learning curve later in the game and engies feel like superheroes and have explosions. I like explosions.
To each their own I guess, have fun finding your favorites!
Play around with a thief for a while in spvp and learn their skills. Thieves are probably my favorite class yo fight one on one when I’m an engineer since their “free kills” in my eyes.
A few tips:
Save shield 4 for when they use SR. A thief out of SR is a thief served on a plate at least 80% of the time.
Blinds, you have them as well. Bomb 4 and pistol three are great for denying a thief a CnD. If they use dagger/pistol (grrrr) try interupting them with the flamethrower 3.
AoE damage. What most people fail to realise and then cry about is that people in stealth arent unhittable, use your bombs and kite him around in them. The flamethrower 4 is useful here as well.
Don’t leave your back open. A front stab while reduce the damage you take drastically and leave the thief revealed (you can force him to do this or hit your side by backing up to a wall/cliffedge but I find that cheesy).
=P you’ll probably find more/the same tips at the discussion thread posted above. good luck!
Depends on your build but generally classes the kite you. Personally the hardest classes to fight in general are mesmers/engineers. But I’ve only used the healway/full zerker guard so there might be builds to counter theese classes more easily.
After many regrets and lots of thinking I’ve finally made up my mind. I’m going with a human! Thanks for all the help =D
(probably a male since I have two female human characters already…but on the other hand skimpy clothes)
I’ve played most classes, in fact I’ve played all and got at least 80 hours on each of them except elementalist. Though I know enough to fight them my point is I can handle being a condition engineer. The static discharge works fine but when I put my ’nades and condiduration food on I get my asswhopped. Hard. The only way I actually win 1vs1 fights or 1vsX with my set is by either using perplex runes which I hate together with my normal set (bombs, nades, and the tool kit) or if people are stupid enough to run after me while I drop bombs and throw grenades behind me.
I know what the other classes do and I can survive against them but I just can’t kill people. I’m at 120 hours and starting to get embarassed about how bad I am at dropping people. I really love spreading havoc with my little asura actionhero so do you guys have any tips?
My general tactic is to keep the bleed up high with nades and kite them with bombs. I got a pistol for the confusion and poison since the autoattack is horrrid and usually use the shield for extra survivability unless I’m going HGH (which I’m decent with).
Thanks in advance! And let the L2P play rain =D
P.S I’m using Condi dmg/prec/toughness on my gear with runes of the undad or perplex runes. 30/10/0/20/10 to get the perma vigor/swiftness and pick up some useful traits for surviving/using bombs and grenades. I usually use the healing turret and rocket boots for WvW.
Norn, male
Because I am the ONLY one
And the norn racial elites are incredible in WvW and PvE, you have
*Stealth, 1 CC, 1600 range gap closer
*Two CCs’, a 3600 range gap closer
*Two CCs and a perma-cripple
*Two CCs and LifestealAnd all while doubling or quadrupling your HP
You forgot mentioning the rooting. The norn elite (when I do it) are used for the escape and then they’re done. The rooting makes them a nightmare, you forgot to mention it. Thanks for the input! And About cultural gear, I can afford it but then I’ll be poor and have no money to messs around with my other beloved chars. Thank you everyone for your input! I’ll probably go for asura female just for the hilarious lines or norn female for those animations and armor (100% like human…not that I’m comlaining on skimpy clothing). I’ll probably start tommorow (directly at level 20 after a boost). Any tips on what I should use? I keep finding levle 80 builds but no leveling guides, somehting really spike with 0 def would probably fit well…oh well…this needs more lurking.
Well…blinds. Learn to use them and love them. It will let you party facetank mobs in some instances, pistol offhand and the smokefield which also reflects projectiles and is on a lower cooldownthen the guardian (even if they trai for it? I dont know the numbers in my head). Also, thief brings the highest single target DPS the game has to offer if done right. Stealth is another thing that most people suddenly forgot when the thief’s viability is quesstioned SR and Blindingpowder + SB and a blinding field are easy ways to gain steath and no class alone comes even close.
In WvW we get the blood of the other borderlands, the dollies, and noone can stop you from doing so. Easy ways to pass large group off enemies/build/repair/assualt use your imagination. And for not being useful in zerg fights I say bah. Pressuring their backline is risky but is certainly rewarding and not useless at all. And dont forget we have the most spammable blastfinisher in game. We may lack boons to give to others but we have some group utility in that matter (boons on steal). Oh and ripping boons of like noone else can. Always nice to take that stability and watch the person you stole it from bounce around.
This is just the first things that pop out of my head when I think about thief and groups (forgot stealth stomps) there’s more I could add and others but it’s getting late and I’m still not finished with my paper.
Hehe, look like the only eles staying out of this are chars. Thank you for your posts ladies and gentlemen.
I agree espacially the asura animations are breathtaking. I haven’t seen much of the sylvari animations though. Their voices are a bit annoying but I can live with that and if it gets too annoying one can always mute them.
Hi!
I’m planing to make my 8th and last character an ele but I’m struggling with what race to pick. I have a really had time choosing and I’ve already deleted 4 toons so I’m going to the almighty forum for help.
What I’m looking for is cool animations (sorry norns)
Some useable racial skills even if they are not optimal but still not completely useless (sorry norns)
And, this is what I think is the most important part, which race looks the coolest in light armor (you know the drill by now norns).
Thank you in advance for your suggestions and even more thanks if you upload kitten to show your character!
(NO NORNS)
Just kidding. Norn eles are awesome, I just wish my back didnt look broken when I’m throwing fireballs at people. It makes me feel stupid.
