My ideas for making offhand dagger better

in Thief

Posted by: Tutankhamun.3679

Tutankhamun.3679

how to fix CnD: make it a small range forward dash
how to tone down D/P: increase cost of heartseeker (pvp only)
how to fix sword dagger: return #3 to 1 single animation
how to fix dodge spam staff/dagger: increase the cost of vault increase the cost of death blossom (pvp only)
how to generally fix sword: increase auto atk speed and remove cast time on #2 return
how to fix p/p spam: increase cost of unload, increase auto atk speed and dmg
how to promote new builds for: add more condi to dagger auto chain. now plays as a hybrid weapon. or make backstab apply poison confusion torment 1 stack

OR they could just buff everything that is UP and keep everything that is OP the same cuz if everything is OP then nothing is UP

so i havent played gw2 in a long time. just started getting back into it. tried to read up on the patch notes but taking it all in is a bit overwhelming. i really just wanna know what happen to shortbow. i see so much LB talk with its new buffs. has shortbow been kicked to the curb? is it ONLY for condi builds now? i may be wrong but i recall some people used to run SB and LB. is that still possible? sorry for the noobness.

Funny that you say this. i actually do something like this but in PVE only. i heal spring to horn 5, then sword 2 and 2 again , then GS 3. now if only maul was a blast finisher.

What is 'Guard'?

in Ranger

Tutankhamun.3679

i noticed that using guard to send my pet into combat, the pet would use one of its cool down skills and not just auto atk. where sometimes when i just send the pet in with atk, it would sometimes auto atk OR use one of its cool down skills. ill play around with it more and see.

other than that ive always used it for the protection on my pet, the regen and swiftness.

side note: for anyone who is going to test this, keep in mind the pet skills do have a cool down. when i use guard too soon, the pet just auto atks from stealth. swap your pet and i bet it will open up with one of its 2 cool down skills.

hmm ok after playing around with it more, ive seen my pet auto atk after using guard. unfortunately my theory is wrong =(. its only use is the regen swiftness and protection for your pet.

Ideas for improving the longbow and axe.

in Ranger

Posted by: Tutankhamun.3679

Tutankhamun.3679

Axe auto: remove one bounce increase dmg on first bounce. reduce dmg on 2nd bounce. allow axe to return to ranger and grant one stack of might. syncs well with the boon sharing trait in nature magic trait line.

split blade: reduce the cast time. have it shoot out in the same arc and return back to the ranger in the same path. reduce the return dmg on the return applying another stack of bleed. the return should also be fast.

long bow auto: this may sound odd but i think the dmg based on distance should be kept. the catch would be that is now a chain atk like most auto atks. dmg increasing with each part of the chain. last part of the chain should apply a 2 sec cripple. this will help the ranger kite and give the a bit more burst even in close range situations. for kittens and giggles add a sort of charge animation and different arrow animation for the 3rd atk. keeps with the theme of the long bow being a powerful ranged weapon that takes advantage of its range and power.

and just for eye candy the animations on long bow and axes should use animations similar to sword dagger and great sword. let the LB: 5 rain down shadow crows with matching sound effect. or the knock back shoot out the head of a boar.

axes should use some kind of wolf animation for the split blade and swirling claws of a cat on the number 5.

i never understood why, if we are so dependant on our pet that our weapons dont have better synergy with them. i agree with these ideas though some would need to be toned down. our weapon skills, though some already do, should give these kinds of “buffs” to our pets. this would also make up for the sort of lack of control we have over them.

on a side note, id love to see vigor boon give pets a distortion effect. that or refresh the non F2 pet skills.

Honestly I just think that the charge time on mantras needed to be lowered. It just took too long and has a very obvious tell with the hand waving and the symbol over head. This is from a pvp/wvw standpoint though.

Struggling to make 2 bows work. Help plz

Tutankhamun.3679

I’d say look into rampagers this way you get your power critical and condition dmg. Maybe with some kind of power condition rune. The short bow just doesn’t do it anymore for power crit builds since they nerfed it’s dmg output.

Id go with a 30/20/20. And stick 2 sigil of superior battle in both weapons. Weapon swap between the 2 on every cool down to stack might and keep the fury buff going from the minor trait. Even go for like the trait that let’s you use sharpening stones when your targets health drops. This way you can maintain bleeding. Id even go as far as to take all survival utilities. Lightening reflexes muddy terrain and the one that gives quickness. Pick up rampage as one so you can stack might which will buff your condition dmg and physical dmg. Pop it along with the quickness utility.

Your survival will prob be low though. But if you can time your muddy terrain and lightening reflexes right while weapon swapping for the swiftness and making proper use of your knock back from the long bow and the avoid skill and daze/stun from the short bow, you should be able to kite fairly well.

Pet wise id go for a grey wolf for the fear and knock down and a drake Hound for the knock down and immobilize.

If anyone else knows of anything better or if I missed something please chime in.

Why do grenades have no auto cast?

in Engineer

Posted by: Tutankhamun.3679

Tutankhamun.3679

Wouldn’t want an auto atk on nades while on land. It’s easier to kite and lead your target with the “skill shot” besides, I also don’t find it efficient to just spam nades. I try to use everything my engineer has including the weapons. Run it with a net turret and rifle. Or off hand pistol for the glue shot

I know how SD builds work. Currently running one myself. I haven’t been home to get on my computer to test things myself but had the idea that a dual pistol SD build could work. Being more like a hybrid. I was just curious to see if anyone has attempted. The simple solution would be to have a toggle in our utility skill page that enables hiding kit backpacks. There would be no issue with clipping or issues with people who actually like the kit backpacks. I’m pretty sure that won’t be hard to code or require much redesign. No special icons need to be made to tell us or other people which kit we are using. You know because you should know your skills and others should know because they should know what other classes weapons look like and how they perform.

What is the point of Engineers?

in Engineer

Tutankhamun.3679

Engineer is the prob the only class that has an answer for everything they encounter. I find that most classes lack in one thing or another while an engineer pretty much no matter how you build (unless you do do some off the wall kitten) brings the tools to deal with anything. Very efficient and proficient.

Hope for a kitless build

Static discharge rifle. The bread and butter of engineer burst. I run a 0/20/0/20/30 with knights armor, ascended cavalier, and a zerker back. Take utility goggles, tool kit, and rifle turret. And heal turret or med kit.

Yes even though it uses a kit its not your main focus though you will find great uses for the magnet shield and pry bar.

So why so many builds with rifle?

Tutankhamun.3679

For me it’s the net and the knock back. I run net turret also with FT and Egun. I enjoy knocking enemies off cliffs and points and interrupting stomps.. Pistol and shield would prob be better for the defensive play style but I don’t take the cooldown to shield in the 20 in put into inventions. Prefer the protection and the 20% reduction. Maybe I’m doing it wrong.

keep in mind that the might stacks will up your condi dmg also. so you will get better bleeds better burns and poison. egun can be swapped for goggles too since it comes with a stunbreak on the toolbelt with the same cooldown

It has good synergy with both when combined with elixir gun. Great offensive and defensive game play. Toughness heal power and condition and precision. I like 0/20/20/30 with heal turret goggles and elixir c. Replacing elixir c with elixir gun in fights that aren’t condition heavy

Why do people find c necro so op in pvp?

in Necromancer

Tutankhamun.3679

Why do people find Necromancers OP? Because there is one spec right now that is.

We should have a slumber party. You can tell me a story about the OP necro that signet of spite-dhuumfire-epidemic-terror bombed a point with five berserker thieves circle jerking on it. Then we can go watch Phantaram’s video and cry a little about necro survivability. Maybe then we can eat some pizza or something, and watch a 1vX roaming thief video and gush about the true meaning of skill.

By far the best post I’ve seen on this forum.

Most rangers are not fine with GS which is why youll hardly ever see a power focused GS ranger. The other options for melee is SWORD and DAGGER which is I use on swap oh and Axe offhand if you like standing in place while being obvious.. You are not forced to post here either but you just enjoy polite trolling me. Very big pro you are plz teach classes or something. I have a warrior and a necro but AS I SAID BEFORE I play ranger because its the ONLY class that can use GS and wear medium armor. Whats wrong with you? are you a gs ranger? yes? how could you not want a buff? No? mad spirit ranger? f off.

I use Greatsword and Axe/Axe and I do just fine. Maul hits for 3k-9k depending on the class / how glassy they are. Matter of fact here’s my build with a video of the pre-revamped build (working on a new video once I can actually have time to play):

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Revamped-Woodsman-Build/first#post2623384

If you’re complaining about the vulnerability stacks that maul provides as a power ranger you clearly don’t know what vulnerability does to someone who has it on them.

i also use dual axes and GS in PvE.

The only thing I want changed on the great sword is for maul to be a blast finisher. Im running a 0/0/10/30/30 with clerics and fighter runes. In pvp. I’m not the best nor is the build the best but the great sword has saved my kitten countless times allowing me to disrupt run away or last long enough till help comes. If I wanted a more offensive great sword I’d play a warrior or guard. It paired with the long bow 2 shouts and some good healing power is a nice mix of defense and offense. I think the great swords kit as many others think, is for a defensive play style which in turn lets you dish out more dmg with your pet. Yes sword dagger is prob better but the condition dmg feels wasted. I prefer sword dagger paired with short bow. If you want a more offensive great sword the you are looking at the wrong class. Play a warrior maybe.

You don’t want it buffed offensively, but you want a blast finisher.

.. what?

Sorry I should of been clear. I see the blast finisher being helpful in terms of defense also. It can pop water fields and such. I also never said it shouldn’t be more offensive but if I wanted something more offensive I’d play a warrior or guard. As it stands its a Defensive weapon and what’s how I use it majority of the time. Also all except area might seem fairly defensive to me. Maybe I’m wrong. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blast_finisher

along with it only working while out of shroud, what if it was a “% chance to”, like the passives on runes. maybe with a cool down. and maybe like 3% of healing became life force. to control this it could only work from siphon health traits, and only work while in shroud. with maybe like a 2 sec. the way LF degenerates and with a cool down, it will give some nice sustain but not make it perma shroud.

What if there was a trait or just a passive function that allowed us to absorb a % of damage into life force. And what if instead of being able to heal while in deaths shroud, a % of healing became life force while in shroud.

Edit: one more thing. what if flesh worm worked like a blink and left the worm in the last spot we were at time of cast. “blink to target location leaving a flesh worm behind” as it stand, i think flesh worm is kinda backwards. you want me to summon it, run the risk of it dying, and then not having a stun break? thoughts?

am i doing something wrong. hopped on my ele a few min ago and started to kill some random mobs. switched to earth and noticed stability came up. now i know there is the trait in earth to give stability for 2 sec but i wasnt speced into that. so thinking that im going crazy or that i had the wrong trait i checked my traits and i didnt have rock solid set. tried again, swapped to earth and the boon came up again.

by now i figured id switch to the trait to see if maybe it would still give stability. well it didnt. and when i swapped the trait back to written in stone, and tried to att swap the stability didnt come up nor does it come up for rock solid.

is anyone else having this prob or am i doing something wrong.

PS: sorry if this has been brought up already i did a quick check through the forum to see if it has been posted and found nothing.

Bountiful Hunter trait

It only checks to see if you have any boons. If yes, you and your pet get +5% damage, if no, you get nada. You do not get increased damage per boon.

okay cool thanks. but am i reading something wrong? is it just the pet or both the pet and i when i myself have a boon?

almost forgot, my back item is the guild assassin rare with exquisite ruby.

Bountiful Hunter trait

in Ranger

Posted by: Tutankhamun.3679

Tutankhamun.3679

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work like this but i figured i’d ask anyway. Does the Bountiful Hunter trait apply the 5% per boon or is it just for having a boon. which brings me to my main question:

I’m currently running a 0/20/30/20/0 build with GS and Swrd/Dag for PvE and i’m a bit torn between pulling points out of skirmishing for this minor trait. Armor and trinkets are all zerkers with 6/6 dolyak to bolster my survive and syncs well with SoTW. weapons are Valkyrie stats with 5% crit (GS) and sigil of blood(swrd) 5% crit(dag).

45%crit chance (including superior acc sigil)
82% crit dmg
1969 power while wielding GS

this is full exotics except for my chest (rare) replacement is in the works.

so what do you think? would it be worth pulling out of skirmishing just for this minor even if it doesn’t stack per boon?

PS: if you wanna know the exact trait line its as follows:

V-IV
IV-X-XI
V-IX

Please feel free to add input on the over all build as id like to get this as close to perfection as i can. Thank you in advance.
