Why in the holy hell does someone think its a great idea to let vet, champ, and legendary mobs suddenly go back to their spawn and regen to full health in the middle of a fight? I was soloing a champion in a frac today and it took a while but I finally got it down to about 70% health from pistol kiting/poisoning/agony and stealthing… because I’m a thief… and then he just gains full health in the middle of the fight.

That’s horse kitten! >:(

Knights: Boring Waste of Time

I don’t know. I enjoyed taking out the tower from the last living story thing. But this Lion’s Arch battle is really aggravating. Myself and some friends played it for a few hours and then just gave up partially out of boredom and partially out of raging since the players on our server couldn’t get it together to kill all the knights. Bleh! It’s actually worse than that terrible ‘save the refugees’ crap that kicked off the Living Story stuff.

Sure! I will do it tonight! So, if it does turn out to be my wifi, is that a problem that can be corrected with a software setting or does it usually mean the hardware is going bad?

I thought it might be the wifi but I can download from the Internet without a problem. I have a MacBook Pro A1286 2010 model. Not certain what to do.

I am running Guild Wars 2 on a MacBook Pro with 10.9.1 and have had no problems up until maybe a month ago. The game still appears to run correctly, but randomly disconnects me within 15 minutes of logging in.

When I am back at my Desktop, I can pull up Safari or the App Store and they all work just fine so I am not losing Internet connectivity.

I got sick of it and erased my hard drive, reinstalled Mac OS X, fully updated it, then re-downloaded Guild Wars 2 and it continues to bump me off at random saying “you have been disconnected from the server” and I find myself back at the character selection screen.

A very important detail is that when this happens, I don’t get kicked out of the client. I just find myself back at the character selection screen and can literally click a character and get right back in. This leads me to, unfortunately, suspect the Guild Wars 2 client.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Thanks!

I would love to have a native Guild Wars 2 client, as well. The only thing holding me to the Windows platform is Guild Wars 2 and Skyrim, but I could get Skyrim on Xbox 360 if push came to shove. The other games that I play such as X3 Shady Business, Killing Floor, Serious Sam 3, Unreal Tournament 2004, Neverwinter Nights, Heroes of Newerth, Brutal Legend, and even my old DOS games (emulated through DOSbox) have been released natively for Linux. GW2 works through Wine, but it forces the Win32 client into a single core, significantly reducing performance. Heck, I’d buy GW2 all over again if it meant I could play in Ubuntu or Mint.

Seems like a pretty good article on DirectX vs OpenGL and why we aren’t using all OpenGL games these days.

Metro is a matter of choice, though it seems like a complete clusterkitten of everything that could possibly go wrong and a bit more. The real issue here is that Microsoft is starting to build a closed ecosystem with Windows 8, a ‘walled garden’ similar to Apple’s. Windows RT doesn’t allow you to sideload applications, and other stores like Steam are not allowed on the Windows Store, which leaves the developers with the Windows Store itself as the only distribution channel. For now, it’s just WinRT, but it’s only a matter of time (and one, maybe two subsequent Windows releases) for Microsoft to lock down the desktop, too.

This is exactly right. I remember way back in the day, many years ago watching a keynote from Bill Gates talking about wanting to take Microsoft and computers in that exact direction. A closed system where everything is linked with Microsoft at the center of it all. They are, for all intents and purposes, doing just that. It’s just slow so the average PC user doesn’t catch on until its too late.

With the horrors of Windows 8 and the Apple-like computing scheme that comes with it, I went ahead and switched away to Linux last week. I am very happy and it rekindled my love for computers and learning. If you are thinking about switching, check out Ubuntu LTS first. It’s not the latest, but its stable and there is a lot of hand-holding throughout the experience.

Beyond that, the arguments I typically see are actually part of a larger cycle from what I can tell. The reason why many game companies choose not to create a Linux port for their products is because most gamers do not use Linux. However, I believe that most gamers do not use Linux because all the good games are on Windows. So it goes in a circle. I think this cycle is breakable by both sides just biting the bullet and supporting/switching to a major, user-friendly distribution of Linux such as Ubuntu, Mint, or the like.

I for one have done just that in hopes to become part of the solution (permanently switching to Linux at home) instead of remaining part of the problem (staying with Windows for whatever reasons).

Just saying.

EDIT: Just so that you guys know, you can play all sorts of Windows games in Linux. I have Diablo 3, Skyrim, and even DOS games running. And if you play Linux-native games such as Team Fortress 2, they run A LOT better in Linux than on the same PC with Windows.

GvG (in PvE and WvW)

I’ve always enjoyed games where one guild could declare war on another guild. The two (or more) guilds may have the occasional member bump into each other in PvE (or maybe even WvW) and they would be viewed as hostile/attackable. Open PVP areas would be nice, too.

I’m sure you guys were seeing GvG and just assuming I was going to talk about scheduling GvG in PvP only. I also want that, but I sure would like to be able to kill some people that are on my own server from time to time.
