It’s been 2 years since I last played Guild Wars 2 and I remember next to nothing on how to play and have no clue where to start. On top of that, so many things have changed, it feels like a completely new game to me now. I have a level 50 guardian but have no clue how to jump back into the game. I’m thinking of just starting a new character and playing slowly from the beginning again. Then when I understand things again, I’ll go back to my guardian. Does that sound like a good plan?
Any recommendations?
Does anyone know how to play a guardian successfully?
Does Making The Resolution Smaller Increase FPS?

I play with 20-30 fps, mainly 25, and Reso makes a small change. I can’t play fullscreen coz it’s like 10-15 fps lol. I’m playing on a Laptop with a Processor and GFX card that shouldn’t even be playing. You should see how small my window is to play this game.
Have you tried running Gamebooster?
What really sucks is according to ANet, my laptop should be able to play GW2 no issue. I meet the recommended settings! If I knew my game was going to run this kitteny, I wouldn’t have bought it.
I just downloaded gamebooster and have it a try but it made no difference. Will 10 fps…

Yeah, I’ve done everything in the book. Changed my control panel settings to high performance, set everything to low, downloaded the latest driver, etc. My Nvidia Geforce 9400m is the issue. Everything else about my computer is easily capable of playing this game. I hate integrated GPUs…

I usually play on 1400×900 but since the last patch, my game is pretty much unplayable since I went from 20 fps to 8. I want to know if anyone know whether changing the resolution to a small res makes a difference? I know in other computer games, it has for me, but when I change it in this game, it makes no affect. Can anyone else confirm whether it does or doesn’t?
Although this is sad news, I’m glad to hear we’re not the only ones. It really sucks because I was getting by with 20-25 FPS on all low settings. Now with the frame drops, my game is unplayable. It’s very very frustrating…
Has anyone else experienced this? Both a friend and I have lost an average of 5-10 FPS drop since the last two updates.
Are we the only ones?
Thanks for the input everyone. To Brewnix, I have checked Task Manager and the only processes running are the bar-bones of Windows and Guild Wars 2. I did a fresh installation of Windows 7 before and have installed nothing but Firefox on the system. Whenever I have GW2 open, my CPU usage goes to about 40%. I don’t know what my GPU is at but like I said, if I can run fine occasionally, why not all the time? It’s strange, it’s like I need to warm up my computer before I can play the game. It’s almost down to a science. It take about 30 mins of starting and restarting GW2 and “rerolling” the client until it works. The 30 mins it pretty consistant; not literally at 30 mins every time, but close.
I probably should have mentioned this before but I’m running GW2 on Windows 7 Ultimate on a MacBook Pro from 2009 using Bootcamp. I have a 2.53GHz dual core, 4 GB RAM, and the Nvidia Geforce 9400m graphics card. Does anyone else have this same setup?
Doing some research, some people have suggesting attempting to use the drivers here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
According to this site: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/nvidia-geforce-9400m-9600m-gt-windows-7-does-not/606e1b45-8791-48b2-ba85-059cd4c119ed
You need to modify the .inf file.
Thanks for the answers guys. I check out the first link and I couldn’t find a driver that supported my GPU. I’m not sure what else to do to get this thing running smoothly. What’s weird is my game runs completely fine when it first boots up. After about a minute of playing, my FPS goes from and average of 25 to 8-10. I then restart Guild Wars 2 and it works fine again. This process repeats until I get a client that plays with no lag. It’s like I need to reroll my game client. I don’t understand this behavior. If my laptop and run the game at 25 FPS on a “good roll”, why not all the time? This behavior has nothing to do with what’s going on in the game too. I’ve done dungeons no issue, but sometimes I just log in and am no where near anything, and it lags…
I’m using a laptop that uses a Geforce 9400M. On the Geforce site, it says the 9400M doesn’t support Windows 7. My game can run on this laptop but has huge frame drops randomly throughout playing and forces me to restart Guild Wars 2 about 5-10 times per play session. I have the latest drivers, am plugged into the wall, and have changed my control panel settings so it’s set to High Performance. Would switching to Windows XP R2 make my game play better since my GPU is more compatible? Or since my GPU isn’t great enough to run the game, will reinstalling the OS be in vain?

I know this is a simple question but I’ve never gotten a 100% answer. Yes or no?
Does Retaliation reflect damage, making it so I don’t take any damage? Or does the attacker take the same amount of damage I’m taking?
Yes, warriors are awesome.
If you can’t run, face them head on. A lot of these hundred blade user’s are glass cannons. I’ve only played warrior exclusively in PvP and use a sword and shield and have no trouble dealing with these players. I do get beat by them every now and then, but I don’t expect to win all the time. If I want to get away from a fight and they keep pinning me down, I think to myself, “Alright well running isn’t the answer.” I begin to attack them head on and by using my shield and utility abilities combined, I’m able to block their “OP combos” and destroy them while they’re waiting for their cooldowns. I too use abilities that make it so they can’t run so when they come at me and fail, it’s their turn to try and survive.
The two warrior shield abilities (don’t know names off the top of my head) really help counter these bombardments of fast attacks. The 4 ability for shields interrupts them and 5 blocks.
Speaking of racial skills, I think Hounds of Balthazar skill needs to be changed so the dogs last until they die, similar to a necromancer’s fiend skills. The skill should begin recharging once they dogs die. Considering the skill needs 30 skill points to buy and has a 2 minute recharge time, why do the dogs only last 30 seconds? It would be nice to have this on my warrior for crowd control, but only 30 seconds of support doesn’t make the elite worth using over Signet of Rage.
It actually has a 4 minute cool down. (240 Seconds). I believe the skill is absolutely fine as it is. Pardon me for my unpopular opinion. They’re called Elites for a reason, which is to be used when you’re in a real pickle. Not to have an everlasting effect that can unbalance your strength in the long run. I use my hounds with my pet all buffed up to get some serious meatshields on Vets, champs or a group of mobs. But anyway, all that side. I rarely have to use an elite. If you’re in a position where you need to spam elite skills to survive, then that’s a pretty clear indication that there’s something wrong with your build.
As for Prayer to Dwyana? I believe it to be an useless skill as well. Though I always figured that it had something similar to what we had in GW1’s “Gods Favor.” That is, I was expecting that the skill would become stronger if the world was granted “Gods Favor.” Though much to my surprise gods play a very lacking role in GW2. Alas, I’m not a fan of this skill since it doesn’t play a real lore integrated part at all.
Yeah, sorry for the mess up. I meant to say 4 minutes and not 2. And I do agree with you in the fact that elite skills shouldn’t be needed and that they shouldn’t be spammed either. I guess I just wanted a little more out of the 30 skill points I spent but after some thought, having those dogs at all times would be pretty overwhelming. Anyway, we’re getting off topic :P
Well the title pretty much sums it up. I have auto-play always checked and 90% of the time, I need to manually click Play anyway. It’s not a huge deal but it’s sometime I noticed.
Thanks
If you’re not having fun, reroll. I mean, it’s the point of playing the game is to have fun? It may take a bit to get back to level 52, but look at it this way. Once the game has been out for a while and you’ve started your new character and got it to level 80, you may want to give the Engineer a second try. You’ll already have started it and can continue from there! Even if you’ve make 3 level 80 characters, he will always be there.
But to add to the discussion, Prayer of Dwayna, for a warrior heals the highest amount consistently (the first heal heals more if you have a full bar of adrenaline), but I don’t use it because I have other heals that also heal conditions and apply other bonuses. If this skill is strictly healing, I agree, it should be buffed a little.
