Originally I had GoM picked to beat Fkittenil I realized a new patch was coming out on the 26th and suddenly had flashbacks to the GoM/DH/FC week. shudder
Nevertheless, I’d like to see a WvW with just GoM and FC, and see who would come out on top. My money bets on GoM to win that. Though it wouldn’t be easy.
It fluctuates greatly, pre season we beat the stuffing out of GOM, six months ago it would not have been a contest, GOM wiped us off the map. Seems like of all the servers I have faced, GOM is the most unpredictable as to what you are going to get in a given week. I don’t know why that is..
However, in its current state, it is from what I can see this week, a no tactic pug zerg server at the moment. Lot of people, not much strategy. We had a 30-40 man Gom Zerg throw itself against FC garri last night about six times. They only used rams, and they never completely stopped the flow of supply from the north camp or held that camp for anything longer than the RI period, which allowed us to continually replenish supply at the keep. At the end we had about 20 arrow carts raining death down on you, never got under 400 supply in the keep, yet you still tried the water gate again and again.
If that is representative of GOM strategy, I will take the FC side of that bet even with fewer numbers.
In other Servers there is usually a large guild such as MU…
Just to clarify… MU runs in small, organized groups of 15-25. Also, at this point I have to point out the obvious. GoM’s overall population is listed by ANet as “Very High” whereas both HoD and FC are listed as “High”. This should give you a distict advantage becaus it means that GoM has more actual numbers (not necessarily active WvW players). If I were on GoM I would think that it would be very valuable to focus on turning some of those PvE players into WvW players. HoD does have some guilds ([PHZE] and [FKB] just to name a couple) that focus on recruiting from Lions Arch and get players into WvW to begin with.
15-25 that’s not small maybe on your server sure ( I wonder how RH would be if they had more then 5-7 people on). But yes you are right we are a high population server and most of the people here like PVE over WvW. This league thing actually gave us the opportunity to recruit those people because they love their achievements. Once those achievements were over and done with some stayed some did not and with the release of new content…anyways we are recruiting its just not everyone’s thing. Reminds me of the first league week we would actually queued 2 maps…ah good time were had.
I wasn’t trying to insult your guild I was just making a point that large guilds play style usually represent the server. While in GOM we have new WvWer’s coming from PVE and all of our guilds in WvW are small.

That’s the thing its hard to see what represents a server. In GOM we have a lot of small guilds its rare for a guild to have more then 15 people doing WvW unless they are doing green arrow night. The people who attacked garr could of just been pugs with a new commander who know, who cares as long as they had fun.
In other Servers there is usually a large guild such as MU, OS and whoever else and when that guild plays smart then its like wow that server is smart. Well no I can always find an idiot doing something stupid on any server. Heck 10 mins ago I killed a guy from FC trying to attack briar in a omega by himself (It did not go well for him). Killed a group of HOD trying to attack Bay with an Omega and didn’t bring any supply so we killed them with only half our numbers (it was like 10-5). Mind you later they showed up with 20 and we lost horribly, still I hope you get my point.
On that note I want to say kudos to both HOD and FC. HOD has kept the slaughter even and there were sound good large and small fights and FC playing smart by taking advantage of many different types of situations.
For ele’s I have tried a bunch of builds but I can’t get away from Evasive Arcane. If I don’t have that then I need 30 in water which most of the time is just the Cantrips combo. I did try going earth but it just didn’t beat Evasive Arcane. I wish that could go to Masters but its to powerful.
Honestly not sure this will change my build I’m really hoping it will. Because there is no good stun breakers and you can’t get a lot of damage out without giving up a lot of your healing. (high hopes for Diamond Skin)
I’m running 0/20/0/20/30 right now. I’m pushing the 20 in air just for the crit.
I find it kind a odd for that to be a feature. It just does sound right. “Run in and die on one side of a gate so you can be rezed through”.
I played WvW since it came out but I guess I never noticed this before. We were a little shocked on the stupidity of it. The plan was to pull the Mesmer back however there are pugs and well…
Thanks for the info I guess its not anything new. WZ guild is I guess desperate.
There have been some nice fights. Its getting harder to keep both servers off our backs. FC seems to be taking advantage whenever we are defending against you guys.
I hear the same thing is happening to us a deal for 1st and 2nd was made and they gathered themselves to take my server down. What can you do, sucks but eh.
I’m from GOM and it seems FC [WZ] guild is abusing an environmental flaw. They took down outer ran a Mesmer inside and let him die at water gate. There he stood for 20-30 mins until the zerg was ready they rezed him through the water gate he then portaled them in.
The best part is they did this 3 times till they capped it. We stopped them twice.

The achievements in WvW when Gw2 came out are pretty large and hard to get. These are more reasonable (maybe even to easy). But I do like it because it gets PVE people to try it.
The fact that many guilds before the leagues moved to the overpopulated servers. The overpopulated servers even paid for many guilds to go up there. I know its a pain with so many people but maybe consider moving to other servers instead of the top servers?
I know its wrong of me to say this but this might force people to spread out now. I played on reset night with no problems to get into any map and no lag. My fights are fairly small and even if they get large I have no problems. You might want to consider this.
There are guilds that logout so they bring down the population so they can get more people in to their server to me you are causing your own problems.
Also Anet is doing the overflow WvW maps so that might help you all out.
Here is a few suggested quick wins the dev’s could consider to help WvWvW. This is from my perspective in a lower tier server.
- The new buff, change it to be WXP, M find, XP, karma and give the stats to guards and camps only. Also keep the finish point bonus.
- Rating. I don’t want to go up in rating when I lose. Call me crazy but when I win I want to gain rating and when I lose I want to lose rating.
- Fix WvW Keep Castle farming. As a low population server we get rolled, they let us retake everything without any resistance what so ever and then we get rolled again. This all happens in an hour time span. Maybe consider punishing servers for losing Keeps. As in lose a small amount of rating losing a keep in another BL?
- Improve the Tower and Keep drops.
- Give a reward for winning in WvWvW. Like first place gets 5 token, second 3 token and last 1 token. Then have a merchant that gives out skins or something for those tokens.
- Fix WvWvW population. From what I heard the top tier server’s actually have a higher cap in WvWvW then lower tier servers and the cost of transfers are based on server population(I could be wrong). The higher cap I’m sure contributes to lag. Why not give some incentive to spreading the WvWvW population out.
Instead of the transfers costing more based on population why not do it based on WvWvW rating. Then people can leave the larger WvW servers with little cost and help the other servers.
Probably would need to implement most of this as a lot of it works together.

Yea Narsil all I was trying to get at was if you can roam WvW might still be fun, but as soon as you can’t move cause the numbers are so unbalanced will WvW die for me.
Only time will tell on how this league thing will go. If anything ArenaNet is good at trying to change things. I just hope they have someone watching the low end servers.
I’m from GOM (RH guild), that server you keep hitting. It takes you guys forever to take our BL when we are actually defending and I’ve enjoyed the fights. It seems like you have twice our numbers when you come and we hold off.
I think the complaints are more about the extensively outnumbered scenario and what the league stuff is doing. Twice, three times the numbers are no problem. Its when the number is more like 5 or 10 times our numbers. We had a lot of WvW guilds and more joined us we were doing very well, won practically every week in our prime and wished for tougher servers back then. But then we had a large guild leave because they were recruited (I think they were WVW) to jade quarry also a bunch of small guilds left with them, we still held our own and did pretty well. Once the league stuff got announced people realized there is not way we can win against servers that cover all the hours and have a constant queues (something I haven’t seen in months even on reset). So we had our largest WvW guild leave us (RISE) and now we are losing RICH who recruited everyone they could and left. So we went from a good community of WvW guilds to pugs and 2-3 guilds of 10 people. Our population is high because of PVE which is just so rewarding unlike WvW where I actually lose money.
I like WvW and I PVE but now a days WvW just has become a farm house. You guys roll in take everything and leave (don’t even check for Mesmer’s, I know cause I ninja capped 3 times in a day). We then spend sometime taking everything back, then you come in again and take everything . Until later at night when we have most of our server on we try and hold 1/3 or 2/3 of our border land. But a lot of people are getting sick and tired of just sitting there waiting for a massive group to come that we can defend against, we can’t attack until you guys leave. The league was suppose to give people a reason to fight (I think that’s what they wanted) but the fight is between a lion and a sheep instead of lion vs lion and sheep vs sheep and since this spans all the servers everyone is going to side with the lion. Instead of having some sheep on sheep action.
My guild(about 10-15 actives at once) is probably the last full WvW guild we have and we will fight on. But when this league stuff comes and we fight a match were we can’t even leave our own waypoint (or so I hear it will be like) we shall see who survives and see who still plays this game after (My thoughts, not my guilds).
To GW2 PPL: Oh a friend mentioned an idea where you separate WvW from the serves and you sign up for which WvW you want to represent this way the PVE people will no effect a server’s population and might balance out this game, I think I’ve read this kind of idea around the forums too.
