It seems like a ranger should be able to out maneuver a thief (the thief can after all burst more and stealth/escape better). Being able to out kite a thief would be some recourse (I don’t have much of a problem with other classes).
Boosting passive speed boost I assume would help with this (hard to tell in combat).
Having some way to break immobilize would help with this.
Fixing the “1” ability on the 1h sword would help with this I think (never use it because of being frozen in place).
People say the ranger fails in wvw because of the pet mechanic a lot. I think the ranger also fails in spvp because of the “stay in the circle” mechanic. It’s a class that is meant to kite and keep range for damage, I often find myself trying to melee a warrior or guardian or thief within the circle and just feeling sub par because I can only kite around in a small circle. Also staying near the edge of the circle inevitably leads to getting knocked out and losing the point for the team.
I use LR for the evade then heal and then spam dodge while deselecting all targets and getting out the GS (block once) so that I can leap away as soon as it wears out. Normally I just die
Also, It seems like occasionally I will get “stuck” even after the immobilize wears out (maybe the immobilize icon is just not showing)? Maybe it has to do with auto run (does this get automatically turned off when immobilized?).
I can only really speak to the ranger vs thief point of view.
I (ranger) would like some sort of recourse for stealth characters without having to spec “just for killing thieves” (using the longbow for the AOE or swapping in terrible AOE skills).
The problem I have with them is that even if they are no match for me they still ca continue to stealth away and just wait for me to attack someone else.
In wvw yesterday I hit a thief that came out of stealth and then escaped again maybe a dozen times. When I finally got bored and left I was simply attacked by him again when I engaged the next target. He still didn’t get me, I didn’t even bother trying to hit him more than enough times to get him to run at this point. It’s like I had gained a permanent follower who wasn’t worth my time to bother with. It made me realize how grim things actually are when facing a thief that can down me in seconds; even if I was able to overcome losing to that first burst DPS there isn’t much of a chance the thief would die anyway…
I wish the ranger was more maneuverable than a thief. I mean the thief has stealth, why do they ALSO need to be more maneuverable than a ranger?
Hmm… Isn’t saying “I don’t wan’t a permanent pet stow option because people might tell me how to play” a little hypocritical considering having the option panders to two play styles while not having it forces everyone into one?
Pets are useful for that kind of harrassment and just generally wasting the enemy’s time.
I agree with this. I think the importance the pet’s role plays in DPS when the rangers DPS is considered needs to be reconsidered.
I would love a permanent stow option that boosts the rangers DPS.
I agree with the sentiment. It isn’t that I dislike the idea of having a pet; I just recognize that the AI of a pet will never be sufficient at playing such a large role in pvp.
The range would be so much fun to play without a pet; or at least with the pets importance downplayed (stow for buff’s is a great idea).
