Thank you, Jon.
A “dev” not knowing where the issue is coming from – wow not THAT is a shocker ROFLMMFAO!!!
Why don’t you actually do something useful and fix the crap you fked up like world loot drops??? I find it odd that you can “find a solution” in 72 hours if there is the potential of a exploit but yet takes you weeks to fix the debacles you create. But what do I know? I just have a Masters in IT so most of the bllsht that you’re spurting is just that – bllsht…
I work as a software QA. I assure you that it’s insanely hard to track down some of these problems. He’s made it his goal to get it in by the 14th. It means it’s something he’s dedicating time to.
The problem here is even if you know it’s flawed, you might not know where in the code the flaw is being applied and figuring that out can take weeks or more. He’s asking us for what we saw before and after in hopes that something leads him to the right area to look.
Honestly, this is standard. Every software company will tell you this is how it goes. There are just certain bugs that you go “Yeah that’s a bug, but kitten all, I don’t know where in the code it’s hiding.”
Once they find the spot then he can start fixing it. Screaming at him for admitting he needs help, asking the experts for help, and giving us a pledge to get it fixed is not helpful for any one.
Man, let’s be a bit nicer guys. More flies with honey and all that.
Mr. Peters,
I recognize that the delay was removed due to a bug and in your view we should have a delay. However, you state the delay is half a second? It’s at least three seconds. Ontop of this the phantom will attack where the person was. This isn’t much more different then some one moving from a red ring, but it’s annoying and not obviously how it “should” be to either the caster or the defender.
Ontop of this, with the obstruction, blindness, dodge, block, etc etc etc, our phantoms are in sad shape. If you get them out they then sit around for three seconds and can either be killed or cced into submission. Not at all worth it for a long cool down.
I’ve been trying to find a clone only build as those are reliable, not as long a cool down normally, and I can shatter them for effects just like phantasm. I shouldn’t be wanting this. I should want the Phantasm out doing their thing at least once, but because they are blocked by almost everything and most clones aren’t they become an extremely unreliable tool I wish to avoid.
Please take a close look at this, as others have indicated, you gave people double the ways to avoid phantasm before this fix. With the delay in there, do they still need double the ways? Could you comment on this please? I don’t know what the design view is and would like to know it.
I’ve played broken classes elsewhere and have waited out having my class be awesome. I’m not giving up Mesmer, but it’s clearly not working how we the players thought it should. I don’t know how you the designers intended it. Of course, I could probably say that for nearly every class.
What you’re saying matches what I’m seeing. Sadly, that means there’s no way to tell if something is obstructed or not per race you are per skill you’re using.
Yes, it’s a fact, but we should know how it works.
I tried to get this answered in the AMA. It was either the wrong question for the type or got buried too fast.
Short version is, how does LOS work in this game? I have yet to figure it out. It seems every skill and every race have different LOS areas. So some can shoot over that rock with one skill and others can’t, even standing in the same spot.
Long Version:
I want to know how it should work so I can give meaningful feedback when it doesn’t. Honestly, I don’t know what is a bug.
I come from a game where I knew what line of sight was. “Feet to Feet”. It was that simple for every one. It was frustrating sometimes, but you knew if you got “Can’t see target” your feet couldn’t see your targets feet.
Here I can stand in one spot and target a mob/player/structure. Neither of us move, but one ability can hit and another will be obstructed. I also play a mesmer and I think phantoms line of sight is “Can I see the target? Okay, if I can see the target can I see the random spot the Phantom is summoned at? Okay, if those are true, can the phantom see the target from where it’s summoned? If so, summon the phantom.”
If that’s how it’s supposed to be? That’s all well and good. It feels like a bug though.
Phantom Summoning feels like a bug. Two abilities, that aren’t phantoms, where one hits and the other is obstructed feels like a bug. Different races having different “centers” of where it feels like LOS is feels like a bug. That’s not even counting AOEs.
All of this could be game features and just how the game goes, but I honestly don’t know. A short explanation would be nice of how LOS works for:
Phantoms, Projectiles, Ground Targeted Attacks, Basic Ranged/Melee, Anything else I didn’t include as of right now these all work differently even amongst the same category.
The concern of the Mesmer community is that we now have to aim for the shins while another ranged can aim at our shoulders.
… It’s terribly inconvenient.
Oh I don’t disagree, I was trying to just give a work around or at least a mindset that will help. I’m still trying to figure out where the LOS line is drawn from. I think it’s different per ability, but don’t quote me on that. For one, being different per ability doesn’t make sense. That would be a ton of work and extremely buggy. However, I know where one ability might say obstructed another will work just fine without me moving.
A tad off topic, but from those having LOS problems, I come from EQ2 Land where LOS is “Can your feet see the baddies feet.” This rule of thumb has helped me well in GW2. It’s more “Can my shins see my opponents shins” over here, but the general idea stays the same.
Thanks for the help in locating it. I’m still confused why the trinket slot dropped last night and it’s soulbound on acquire. I’m happy I got it, but…
I’m looking for something I can wear in pve. I know this can drop because I got a drop of it last night from FotM. You can buy the blues and greens from the trading post, but none of the others are listed. I’m curious why.
And no I don’t have “only show available” turned on. They don’t show up at all.
I can see the Green and Blue version of soldier gear but not the yellow or orange on the trading post.
Is there a reason for this? I just got an exotic piece last night and it’s not showing there at all.
Any chance most of this can be done non-video. I’m one of those lame folks that prefer written word.
Having said that I should be constructive. You know what you’re doing, but could you go into details about what you’re currently doing during a siege? Both on Offense and Defense?
It’s easy enough. Take a waypoint from one end of the zone to the other a few times or recall to spawn in WvW. In under 10 recalls you should hit the issue.
So to add to this, I’m not seeing illusions run towards objects they have targeted when I shatter them. Even on training dummies my iduelist just shatters right next to me.
“Highest Common attained level” means exactly that, the highest level everyone shares, not a simple majority, everyone.
You could think of it as scaling to the lowest common denominator if that helps.
Technically, it can mean both “everyone” and “majority”. Don’t you love English and communication?
As I said, I wasn’t too worried, but was just curious. Either way we are going to have people who insist you’ve ran it X number of times to run with them.
What does “Highest Common attained level” mean?
For example we have five players P1, P2, P3, P4, P5.
P1 hasn’t done any.
P2 and P3 got to LVL3
P4 is on LVL2
and P5 is on LVL6
Will the dungeon be LVL1 (since P1 hasn’t done it yet) or LVL 2 (Four players have either completed it or done it, thus a vast majority) LVL3? (3 players, a majority, have done it or ready to do it).
I think I can rule out LVL6, but I’m not sure.
This isn’t a huge deal, I’m just curious how it will work.
Edit:
Also, if I’m P5 in this situation and run it with this group on LVL1 do I count as LVL7 or do I count as LVL6 still? Either way there are issues I see, but both ways can be worked around.

I think folks are missing a key part here. Yes, the items have better stats, but the stats are set. If you slotted sigil or rune into an item that matched the item’s main stats it would come close (or better) to an ascended. At least that’s what it looks like from the example provided.
On top of that, it seems you won’t be able to get different rune set bonuses. I know quite a few people that would see the bonus as better.
Here’s the problems I see:
1) What’s the point of having a guest pass if you can’t play with your friends? Folks are going to want to play with the people that invited them.
2) People aren’t going to want to transfer to a lower population server for a week. I’m in a friends and family guild and a wvw guild. I like both way too much to even consider transferring. Thus the solution of “Go some place else” won’t work for the majority.
3) IF the guest passes let you get on full servers, there’s going to be tons of whining and complaints because the paying customers can’t.
It took me a week or so to think of this, but yeah, I don’t see a win here at all. I gave out some passes and I want to play with those people. However, I see point 3 as well. I’m very curious what the solution here is for Anet.
Doesn’t seem to be. With all the threads about “I can’t get into server X to play with people”, it seems like a concern that needs to be dealt with.
Of course if they do let folks into full servers this way, there will be complaining.
Will the people we invite for the free trial this weekend be able to play on our server? If the server is full what will happen?
So here’s what we should do – let’s all throw every fight we get in in WvW and sPvP after the next patch. Everyone, just let all the other classes win! Then in the patch after this patch we’ll get some good buffs.
Nah, I’m pretty sure that just means they need to nerf us and Irelia some more.
Does this count for runes as well as sigils? Would a rune interfere with a sigil and vica versa?
Started a new static with friends, I bought us all some apple pie to celebrate and help out at the low levels. Took me over 15 minutes to send the pie to folks that were grouped up with me because after sending two I was suppressed for a while.
Is this as intended? If so it seems a tad over zealous. I’ve seen grumblings of similar on WvW for people that type in /m to organize the zerg. Is there any way to handle this other than waiting and hoping next time you try it’s good?
I see I got merged here.
Okay, so it doesn’t just block say and map folks it blocks you from sending mail. As this is one of the few ways to trade items (other being a guild bank) in game, this is a huge annoying problem.

Hopefully all goes well. I’m sure I’ll catch the video on youtube like you said.
As much as I would love to make it, I found out yesterday I will be out of town for work. Sometimes it happens that way.
They haven’t said if it’s tied to an achievement or not but it sounds like it’s a one shot.
It’s the party which is part of the achievements needed for the mad king thing. I’d love to get them all done, but just found out that I will be busy till 1 PM Pacific time.
So, here’s hoping.
I see lots of people saying the advertisement was poor, could you explain what you mean by this, please? I’m trying very hard to see your side of things, so I want to know what exactly was poorly worded.
I still don’t think we know what that chance is. They told you that the skins exist but not the drop rate. You assumed a decent drop rate. I didn’t.
But hey, I’m still going to open chests later this week.
I keep hearing about how dungeon loot is going to get changed, but I don’t know what direction it’s being looked at. I know you all don’t want locked into something, but I still wish I knew what you were thinking.
I think it’s more that the game doesn’t teach you how to dodge, how to watch for attack animations, and how to be fluid in moving. I know I still stop moving here and there. I’m used to MMOs where you stick, cast, move. I’m sure plenty of people are. In that mind set “gotta dodge” doesn’t factor.
So, yes, if you know about dodging and timing it right, this isn’t a hard fight. If you don’t, this is a road block you won’t pass. The mechanics to get past it simply won’t click.
They, I’m pretty sure that’s not at all how supply and demand works.
What is the timer to prevent farming? Even if it’s an exaggerated timer I’m good. I just want to know if I’m going to be punished running one dungeon path twice in the same number of days.
Okay, serious question here.
If I run a dungeon path with friends today and then we decide to run the same one tomorrow, do we get hit with this change?
I’m looking for a WvWvW guild willing to teach a bit and deal with my insanity of wanting to try things out. The big catch though is this will be my second guild. I run with a friends and family guild most times, but for WvWvW I’d prefer something a bit more focused on that.
Oof. I’ve been trying to sort my thoughts out on this.
You are right, between mail and trading post 90% of the need has been covered. The problem happens when one of those methods fail.
You are dealing with trusted and untrusted trades. That’s very black and white. There’s also a scale of grey here. I might charge a complete stranger the going rate on copper and give it to guildies for free. What about a friend of a friend? I’d like to give it to them at discount, but I can’t.
For those who say that selling outside the Trading Post will destroy the trading post, I can assure you it won’t. I can’t count the number of MMOs that have both public trading and auction houses that have shown time and time again both will prosper.
Hell, I come from EQ2 and we sell raid loot in public channel. You heard that right. Raid loot. The Broker system (auction house, trading post, whatever you wish to call it) is going strong there as well.
Now to address the real point here.
You want me to report any time I get scammed through the nonsecure, non-checking method of sending a mail in hopes I won’t get scammed, but putting a secured “every one checks yes” trading box encourages scamming?
That’s asinine. I can’t imagine how many reports you’re going to get per day on this.
Man, I remember that fight on my mesmer. I just ran around kiting for 45 minutes complaining in voice chat how it was stupid. Glad to hear it’s being fixed a bit.
