Been playing the game since launch, stopped somewhere in the middle due to inactive guild. Currently settled in Crystal Desert, don’t mind transferring to other servers, though I probably won’t do it until I am used to the guild. Would use voice communication only if it is necessary.(PvP/WvW, not dungeons or fractals. I am often skyping with other people.) Plays many other games, offline and online.
Looking for an active, mature, English speaking guild. Drama is fine, great, love watching drama. Social, hardcore WvW/PvE guilds are fine. Doesn’t mind role-playing. Can tolerate excessive emote spamming, xdxdxdxdXDXD, etc. Prefers a non-autistic, egotistic guild leader. Starting up guild is fine.
Do have classes I need to attend to, won’t be on 24-7. Have engineer as main, warrior & elementalist as alts. Don’t like playing Warrior, 0 fun.
Likes to watch people die, argue in dungeons. Hate good PvE Guardians, they ruin my fun in dungeons.
Will stand down and represent other guild when no guild members are active until guild members are back online.
Static Shot, Static Shield + Throw Shield
This part doesn’t make sense. Why Disable a target immediately after Blinding and (more importantly) applying 2+ stacks of Confusion?
Ops, let me fix that part.
(edited by Volfurious.9231)
Don’t like number 2, feels like it shouldn’t be a downed skill at all.
Super Elixir. Stack them heals, STACK THEM!
The Actual Battle
In this section, I will first provide you with the abilities that are used in the actual combat in a timed order.
Starting with flamethrower equipped.
Flame Blast, Use all belt skills (Throw Wrench, Healing Mist, Incendiary Ammo,) Detonate Flame Blast
Run up to enemy.
Napalm, Smoke Vent
Unequip Flamethrower
Static Shield +Throw Shield, Static Shot,
Run up to napalm fire combo field + Magnetic Shield, Magnetic Inversion, granting 3 stacks of might for all.
Switch to Tool Kit
Pry Bar
Moving back + Switch to elixir gun
Super Elixir
!!Free Time!! (You have 8~9 Seconds) All actions before should be done within 6 seconds or less.
Back to Flamethrower
Regroup mobs with Air Blast, Flame Blast + Detonate
Take a break with auto attack.
!!End Free Time!!
Repeat process from start.
You main objective is to throw out as much crowd control, blind, and confusion on enemies as much as possible while keeping you and your allies health high. This builds is most effective when everything, and everyone is clutched together.
The moment that you entered FREE TIME (when you swapped to elixir gun and throw down super elixir) you have around 8~9 seconds before Kit Refinement goes off cool down. During these 8~9 seconds you can choose to use other skills not mentioned above. But remember, having flamethrower on will keep your might stacks up.
You MUST have flamethrower equipped before the end of free time.
Keep track of the super elixir and Kit Refinements cool down, use these skills together to create 2 super elixir fields whenever its possible.
During your second loop of these chain of actions, some skills will still be on cooldown, replace them with other skills.
Tool belt skills should be used whenever its off cooldown, don’t let it sit there.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————
The Down Side
-You are very vulnerable to crowd controls due to not having stability at all, or anything that can help you break off of a cc.
-You will be more vulnerable when you are not holding a flamethrower, try to roll away from enemies or keep a safe distance when doing all the shenanigans.
-Squishy if using zerker gear. This can be improved a bit by switching Invigorating Speed with Self-Regulating Defense. Also, keep your health at max.
-Confusion. Sometimes, you will lose track of what you were doing in the middle of battle. You can panic if you want, just make sure you wait long enough for kit refinement to go off cooldown, then start the chain of action again from using elixir gun.
-Your hands will sore.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Extra notes
-You will be able to lower defiant pretty quick, allowing others to cc the boss. (Or yourself, but don’t you dare use the air blast on the boss when he has 0 stack of defiance.)
-Even if everyone is full health, use the 2x super elixir. The field will stay there, and it doesn’t take long to recharge.
-Feel free to suggest a new name for this build if you like it.
Hope you will find this useful.
Your fellow Engineer,
Volfurious.

With the recent patch, I messed around with the kits and found a nice build that I really enjoy and would like to share with all the other engineers. This build might probably been familiar or have already been posted before.
Here’s the link to the traits and skill set.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcIQJAqel0pqbH5SrF17IxIFk+zgeU/6eXRKyfjB;TIAjMmGA
(Copy and paste the link)
(Infused Precision and Invigorating Speed traits are optional.)
(Sigil of Superior Chilling can be replaced if you want more damage.)
I use berserk set with this build. Though anything with precision should be fine.
You will be required to constantly be using almost all of your skills + kit switching.
The goal of this build is to gather up all the mobs together, blasting them with aoe skills, stunning them and knockdown with your crowd control skills, while healing all of your allies.
Grouping Mobs Together
The Magnet skill in your tool kit, the flamethrower’s Air Blast, and your shields Magnetic Inversion AoE knockback should let you gather all the enemies together with ease.
Tool Belts Usage
Each of your toolbelt skill will discharge a bolt of lightning. The accuracy of these lightning bolts are not perfect, it is recommended that you stay at least mid range from your foe. Use all your toolbelt skills(Except Bandage Self) whenever they’re off CD.
Make sure to adjust your camera for Healing Mist and Incendiary Ammo to aim the lightning bolts
Kit Switching
We now have a 10 second global recharge time for creating a spell upon switching kits. This does not apply to first aid kit, or toolkit apparently. Our elixir gun skill Super Elixir heals a good decent amount without any healing power. With this trait, you are able to create 2 super elixirs every 16 seconds. (Heals roughly around 20% of max hp for all)
Avoid activating this trait with flamethrower kit. You will want to save this for the super elixirs.
Defensive abilities
-The Tool Kit’s Gear Shield, your weapon skill Static Shield grants you two block abilities.
-Elixir Gun’s Acid Bomb let’s you leap back and take a timeout when low on health. (Though I rarely had the need to do this with this build.)
-Flamethrower’s Smoke Vent blinds all enemies around you. Make sure you use this ability whenever its possible near a group of enemies.
-All the amazing knockback previously discussed can be used to create a distance between you and your enemies.
Continued on second post.

Phew, thought it was my internet. it is such a minor lag spike, only those who uses multiple abilities at once would realize it. Hope it’ll be better soon!
I’ll join, though I have no clue how this cross server guild you speak of works.
I have 3 80s, though Engineer is still my main.
As of now there are no place for Engineers in PvE, they are worthless in terms of every other profession can do your job a lot better (with whatever it is that you’re trying to do.) You can pull it off in WvW, will be hard until you find a build you like.
I used nades in WvW, it was lots of fun. Stayed at 1.5k range 24-7 with all escape utility, don’t have to worry getting hit. Only useful during siege though, either you throw nades on the tower where the range are shorting arrows at you, or be on high gounds and rain nades on people that’s sieging.
A common fallacy of “I can do it, then it is fine.” Yes, we all can go around killing people in WvW, believe me, I can kill all profession in WvW as well with Engi as well, honestly everyone can. But just because we killed a few dumb kitten in WvW doesn’t prove anything at all.
Consider other factors that actually matters that serves as a valid premise that supports your argument besides your own story of killing people in WvW.
I keep my auto target off because of RTL. I use tab to target people.
Its a lot of fun, but you will end up being useless compare to other profession in dungeons. Yes, grenades, all we ever good for. We can cure conditions for allies, but other professions does a better job at it. I wouldn’t recommend leveling an Engineer if this is your first character.
Elemental Field – Creates an elemental field based on your attunement. Field Radius – 360. 180 cd. Field duration lasts 12 seconds.
Fire : Scorching Field – Burns your foes in the area while doing heavy damage overtime. Creates combo field – Fire.
Water : Frozen Tundra – All enemies in the field will be frozen for 2 seconds. (Only triggers once for each foe.) Chills all enemies in the field. Does not do damage. Combo field – ice.
Air : Ravaging Dome of Air – Creates a dome that destroy projectiles while granting fury and swiftness to all allies in the field. No combo field.
Earth: Swallowing Ground – All foes will be crippled in the field while taking damage overtime. All enemies will be knocked back (or pull) towards the center of the field for 120 distance every 4 seconds. No combo field.

Omg! This is awesome!
SPAM THOSE ATTUNEMENTS!
I liked the second skill of FT, if only it isn’t that glitchy…
Don’t listen to all the negativity, try something different, such as a Flamethrower build with Sigil of Air.
Tried that, no where near the dps of grenades. Oh and the mobs were hitting me.
With every consecutive nerf patch in a row, I’ve tried to adjust to the new standard. So I have no idea what to tell you. Grenades have been nerfed and miss all the time. Nades flight times/pistols/bombs timers before exploding are all entirely too slow on land (oddly they work as intended underwater go figure, you can actually throw grenades and put out bombs faster underwater who knew (someone should called the physics department at harvard.) FT/EG/torchpp all miss randomly especially when there are a ton of mobs on top of you no matter where your camera is and while you are covering them entirely with your weapon’s output. Rifles hardly do enough to be worth the slower caster speed.
So really what’s left at this point? Someone? Anyone?
Keep using grenades and deal with the nerf like I am doing right now. ;_; And feeling useless 24-7.
I’m still furious they 2x the cd for toss exlixir R. It was my favorite utility. ;_: Now i have to run up to people and touch them to ress from 1.5k range away.
I think its great you’re trying new things, great effort intended and should be appreciated rather than frown upon on. But do accept criticisms, especially on an internet forum, and keep in mind that everyone is furious after this new patch.

Please do not assume flash grenade is in anyway useful for DAMAGE at any times. Btw it does 76 dmg per hit on my tooltip. (I can take on the world with it.) The damage on poison grenade is a buff, just gave me a reason to actually use it. Now “Grenade” does more damage than flash nades as we all know, that being said every time you threw a flash nade you just wasted time doing so when you could have thrown grenade for more damage.
I’m still using the grenade kit. After messing around with other kits and traits, grenade kits till remains the best for me.
FT is a trash kit.
B-b-but it looks so cool! Alongside with bugged and glitchy skills.
Do people here ever go and look at other class forums? Elementalists have been complaining about their damage and crap skills since day one. Yes, eles are versatile, but they certainly aren’t particularly stronger than Engineers in terms of dps and are much squishier.
I do! I also own an 80 ele along with my engi. They don’t do much dps, but a lot better playing as support as oppose to engi.
