At the same time, this doesn’t add anything to the game’s enjoyment (which we’ve already concluded is the priority in playing any game).
Wrong. It doesn’t add anything for you
Stop being selfish.
Finally, someone who can tell me how this makes the game so much more fun (I’m serious). Go on.
He doesn’t need to; I already did. I explained to you that a great many players enjoy chasing carrots. Without carrots, they quickly bore of the game. These carrots, the “maximally efficient but completely optional” carrots, give many players a goal to work towards. And they usually feel a great sense of a satisfaction when they obtain that goal. That you fail to recognize this truth does not make it an untruth.
It really doesn’t make sense to me…
I don’t really understand the point of doing something you don’t enjoy in order to get something… so you can move on in order to do more things you don’t enjoy.
Why does it need to be things you don’t enjoy? Why can’t we have a system where your goal is cosmetic or fun things like the unbreakable choir bell? Why does it have to make you X% better?
It seems entirely illogical to me.
Nowhere did he write that the players chasing the carrots in ways they don’t enjoy. Is it such a foreign concept for you to grasp that other people are chasing after things WHILE having fun at the same time?
I explained the scenario above, which I’m assuming he means. It doesn’t mean unable to play certain parts of the game, but instead being able to play at the maximum efficiency and not having the dilemma of grind vs fun.
To any rational human being, there is no dilemma. If something if fun, do it to your heart’s content. If something is not fun, stop doing it. If you’re doing something you don’t enjoy solely for “maximum efficiency”, then I’d argue your approach to video games is very much out of whack.
I agree completely! I’m glad we’re of the same opinion. That’s exactly why I, and the guy who posted that, and probably almost every person against Ascended gear doesn’t actually try to get them. Instead, we’re just annoyed.
Without Ascended gear we could just focus on having fun AND AT THE SAME TIME be at maximum efficiency.
With Ascended gear we can just focus on having fun BUT NOT be at maximum efficiency.
So basically, would you rather be the best you can be, or would you rather be suboptimal? Obvious. So now you understand why people are against this.
At the same time, this doesn’t add anything to the game’s enjoyment (which we’ve already concluded is the priority in playing any game).
Therefore, we can say that Ascended gear adds nothing to the game but does make the game frustrating for a number of players.
Except for the fact that Ascended gear DO add enjoyment for the large playerbase that like carrots.
You know what’s better than getting the carrot only to have a slightly bigger carrot suspended in front of you? Finally getting the crap you need to actually play the game how you want to. And then proceeding to do so with the crap you got instead of it becoming outdated.
Instead of posting nonsense like above, can you please be specific and tell us what exactly in gw2 is stopping you from playing how you want to play.
His post seems pretty logical to me. If your goal is to play the game on the same level as everyone else and have fun, then vertical progression carrots go against that.
Not necessarily. Having a goal is not the same as wanting it right away in this very moment. It can be a thing for the future, something to work towards. By your logic we might as well scrap exotics too, because they can be a heavy investment for someone new to 80.

Hey guys!
My stats right now:
Power: 1556
Precision: 1673
Toughness: 1611
Vitality: 1344
Attack: 2540
Crit chance: 40
Crit damage: 48
Armor: 2822
Health: 15085
Healing power: 387
Heal on dodge: ca 500
Full knights set with 2x Hoelbrak, 2x Fire, 2 slots free
The rest is all lvl 80 rares:
Berserker Hammer, major sigil of strength
Scepter, major sigil of perception
Focus, superior sigil of energy
Trinkets 3x magi, 2x soldier
I’m upgrading the sigils when I get the exotic weapons.
I’ve been following Brutality’s stat recommendations under point 18 as a guideline when getting my starter 80 stuff. Still do btw.
I have the 15/30/20/5 build with signet mastery, purity and empowering might. As you probably already suspect I’m going for the might stacking build. I might eventually make a more support focused build, I like the 1k dodge heal
, but that’s a thing for the future and mostly a gold issue.
As you can see I have two slots free on my armor and I need some help with deciding the best choice. This is mostly a build for dungeons.
1st choice: add 2 strength runes = +20 might duration + 25 power
2nd choice: add 1x hoelbrak, 1x fire = +100 power
3rd choice: 5x ranger, 1x lyssa = 190 precision, 8% crit damage (- 50 power, – 40 might duration)
My thoughts:
1st choice: I’m not sure I really need 20% more might duration, I already can stack it quite fast.
2nd choice: IMO I lack power, this would help but I get alot with might stacking anyway
3rd choice: With my calculation I get 49% crit chance with this option and a crit damage boost to 56%. I guess its also the more defensive choice and sync better with AH. More crits for vigor, might
I’m also leaning towards the 3rd choice because I’m thinking of dropping the sigil of perception on the off hand and go for a purity sigil instead. I think stacking sigils is not very good in FOTM with the short fractals and frequent zoning. With that sigil gone I really need more crit chance in some way.
TL/DR: With a hammer, is 40->49% base crit chance better than might duration?

one use only as it says in the gem store
Well considering the response the rangers got after last patch and what they got today I don’t think we should be too dissappointed
Can someone explain what they mean here about the blood fiend? “and its attack now heals the necromancer for 200% of its previous heal.”
just means it got 200% better healing so normally it gives like 258 now it gives like.. 550 should be 516 but im not complaining.. it still competes with 2 other really strong healing spells tho. but for pve this one should be nice.
Ah of course
I blame the late hour.

Well Matthew said you need to participate in the final event of the meta-events. So no you won’t get the reward if you leave in earlier events.
If I’m not mistaken we have the most condition manipulation skills in the game. So you want to buff our burst cond damage to the level of engi, rangers and mesmers?
Is it balanced if we do the same damage and have the best cond removal and epidemic? There’s gotta be a trade off somewhere. I don’t want 8 identical classes. I want variety and with that I have to accept that some are better at things than others.
Another thing I want…
Too bad the vials are so expensive now. From 9s to 30s in a week cry
Edit: Thank you Ascii for posting this. I had no idea it existed.

From Linsey Murdocks post:
“The stats and functionality normally added to gear through upgrade components are actually built into Ascended items. Instead of upgrade slots, Ascended gear has Infusion slots, and rarer versions of the items also come with additional Agony Resistance built into them. "
So no rune/sigil slot. Anet could in theory offer so many different ascended versions that you still have the flexibility the upgrade slot system gives you. But that we don’t know yet.
For me its sounds like a poorly disguised time sink. Anet don’t want people to finish it too fast so they introduce a new “mechanic” and artificially create a need for better gear. When you get the gear you’re back on square one and need a new set for the next difficulty.
If they really cared about the mechanic itself they could have scaled that to exotic armor and introduced more difficult mechanics from there.
I’m also a victim of the MainCli.cpp(584) error since about a week ago. My tech support answer thought Win 8 could be the problem. Anyone else here with the error have Win 8 pro installed?
There is no page. Jon Peters mentioned the patch ingame and namedropped 3 classes. As you can guess by the uproar here necro was not one of the mentioned
Here it is again: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/GW2-PVP-Feedback-Merged-Topics/page/4#post674835
We already got a swing of that bat. Necro was OP in BWE1 (or was it 2?) and we got hit pretty hard for that.
I think you’ll find plenty of complainers in the other class forums too if you decide to switch. Some are legitimate, for example: rangers pet mechanic…
My advice is to continue with the necro if you think its fun. If your into pvp you could give other classes a try in spvp. We are waiting for the nov 15th patch and we probably will get some bug fixes. Class design changes? I don’t think so. That will take a while I guess.
My point: Stick with necro if you like the class design and enjoy it. If not go look if the grass is green on the other side.
Because imo the necro is the coolest class. The other classes don’t interest me right now and I’m having fun with the necro. That’s more important than comparing numbers.
No no no no the listing fee is essential for the very reasons you complain about. With the fee everyone needs to make a decision when making the sell order. If you set your price too high you risk being undercut, too low you risk losing some of your potential profit. The beauty of the system is that no one actually knows the best price all the time, everyone must make more or less informed guesses.
Edit: Just to clarify the fee itself isn’t making the above possible but what it does is forcing the seller to think it through. Too many bad sell orders will cut it into your profits fast.
Without a fee you’ll create a market that will make the wild west look like a tea party. If every seller can readjust their bad calls you will destroy the market.
My future looks, thinking of doing the Arah one a power build and the TA a condition focused.
The first look is T3 cultural gloves and chest and the rest TA
The second is HotW chest, CoF leggings and rest Arah
Color schemes are temporary
It’s quite laughable that some classes have so many good options while others are told to just accept they have one mediocre one and the rest are laughably bad.
What the hell is wrong with this community that they think this is acceptable game making?
Please share with us the dev quote that says “deal with it or reroll”.
With the amount of complaining in this forum I’m surprised you came to the conclusion that the “community” accept the state of the necromancer (or every other classes for that matter, game forums really brings the best out of people).
I think most people understand that bug fixing and design changes take time and more importantly, you are not alone. There are other classes that need help and other bugs to fix too.
