With the latest batch of patches Anet has finally implemented a visual countdown for the pets f2 skill, while this tiny quality of life fix is great it has brought to my attention a bug of sorts.
I shall preface this saying that I mainly roam in WvW on my ranger. Whilst roaming I have noticed that my pets f2 skill takes on a blue hue and takes longer than the normal cooldown to recharge, so essentially chilled. This effect will remain on my pet until I change map.
I unfortunately don’t have the means to capture gameplay so the best I can do to show what I am referring to is through screen shots. Here are two screen shots of me in a Borderland spawn. The time elapsed from the WvW timer between the two screenshots is 37s, my pet wolf has had 23s of its f2 cooldown lapse during those 37s.
I can only assume this applies to the other pets skills as well, unfortunately there is no visualization of the cooldowns for those skills.

There has been alot of discussion concerning the placement of traps in the skirmishing traitline. Some argue that the precision given through Skirmishing is invaluable for trap builds (to which I agree) while others argue that the crit damage in Skirmishing doesn’t help trap builds (to which I also agree). There has also been some discussion about swapping stats for certain traitlines, I think these two ideas could work off of each other.
How about swapping the condition duration in Marksmanship with the crit damage in Skirmishing? This is a stat combination not seen in any other class and I think it would alleviate some of the grievances with trap builds while helping power-based builds, and maintaining the standard Survivalist traits taken. Condition based trap builds would receive better condition duration, whilst some power builds (such as Valk based builds) would receive a damage boost. Other standard power based builds would remain relatively status-quo as they usually take a healthy investment in both Marksmanship and Skirmishing.
Aside from dodging Entangle or dps’ing the roots, here are some mechanics that effectively nullify this elite:
Invulnerability (Entangle doesn’t effect/only ticks once after invuln use)
Block (Entangle doesn’t effect/only ticks once after block use)
Stealth (Entangle’s roots lose target upon stealth, stops ticking afterwards)
Blink (Blink user leaves Entangle’s roots)
Condition clears/immunity (Removes the immob)
Blind (Entangle misfires)

Either the ranger you fought played it smart and waited for that laundry list of cooldowns to get blown before using Entangle or he got lucky. Not that I think that Entangle is useless, when timed right it can help alot. If anything, rangers, those with access to Entangle, are the most susceptible to its use.
So you asked quite many questions there, so I got one for you. Have you ever listened to a wvw guild video with their ts on? Everything is synced AND announced – pulls, stuns, heals, banners, bombing (not the granade one),stability….
I’ve participated in Gzergs before yes, while they can be fun to experience I don’t find watching them enjoyable. You have to consider who’s point of view you are watching from. It is much easier to understand what is going on in a fight like that from a participants view, someone shout casting a fight would not be privy to the guilds voice comms. All you see is two blobs smashing into each other people (maybe) downing, those remaining regrouping & healing before they smash into each other again. there really isn’t much someone spectating can see besides that.
Anyways this is going way off topic, I’m sure you will be able to find likewise discussions and like minded people in the WvW section of the forums. I am sorry you found the GvG tournament disappointing.
My words werent pointed out only to your team. Pretty much everyone ran their spvp build into large scale fight where these builds become pretty useless. There were no skillful play because almost no teams used their classes as group to focus their abilities and execute proper fight. Not to mention how many idiotic stuff were used… like minion necros lol or Lich Form (if someone is unaware how OP Plague is in big scale fight is his fault… ).
From what I understand the reason the tournament only ran 6 people per side is because GvG’s look like unintelligible particle effect vomit soon past that number. Have you ever observed a large scale GvG? Now can you imagine trying to shoutcast that? Running a spvp build in a 6v6 fight sounds perfectly viable to me, especially since the game is balanced around a 5v5 format. I would also disagree that MM necro and Lich Form are idiotic; one serves the purpose congesting the point with AI while providing solid dps/bunkering and the other provides a huge chunk of raw DPS. Plague Form is a solid necro elite but so are the others.
Very few used stealth/veil at the begining of every fight which is crucial. Every WvW player will tell you that. You have no idea how many guilds we’ve anihilated because >1< of their members has failed to use the veil =>their tactics are uncovered and instead of surprising us,we’ve surprised them.
Except for Posi,I didnt see almost no other necro abusing the wells on both downed allies and enemies.
I’ll preface this by saying I only watched tM v Stream Team (Scarecrow’s my guild leader) but in case you didn’t notice both teams sent out someone to contest the point initially while the rest stealthed. Having a shatter mesmer sacrifice a utility slot for veil just for an opening seems to be a poor idea to me. Once again having only watched tM and Stream Team you would have seen that tM was running a support necro, and that he did in fact drop wells on both downed allies and enemies.
Needless to say how group play works. Simpliest example is: Guard’s greatsword pull followed by Hammerstuns and Wells, all in the same time,on the very same spot.
Almost no use of ANY combo fields+finishers tactics. Such stuff I expected into “GvG” tournament.
Combo fields and finishers are more difficult to perform and to see as a viewer due to fighting over a single capture point. As for group play, I’d say there was plenty of it. Listen to the communication in Scarlet’s video, they call out who to focus/when the were low or downed/etc.
You seem to be confused as to what this tournament was, GvG in GW1 was completely different than the current GvG commonly practiced in WvW. This tournament was spiritually similar to GW1’s GvG.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you guys play Scarlet, tM’s got some of the best roamers I’ve ever fought against/with. Hopefully this game mode will be fleshed out and made official, I am in support of it.
Nothing beats Against All Odds We [DIE] strategeries.
Oozo, I think you messed up. It should be Opposing All Odds We [DIE]. Yea when we did go roaming it was at most 8, but usually it was 5 or 3, and your group tends to roll deeper than that. We enjoy the challenging fights your group puts up so we threw ourselves at you anyways.
I also think running dire necro is easy mode but that’s just my opinion.
Which is doubly odd because the people you’re quoting, [VR], are one of the only guilds in NA that run things like pure backline kite glass or condi.
I watched one video and commented upon it, I’m sorry I don’t know [VR]’s avant-garde strategies.
You’re right – the 2x guard 1x war 2 x mesmer [bags] was running tonight was way more innovative.
I don’t know what [bags] runs, but majority heavy comps get a bit repetitive in my opinion.
Speaking of boring comps, TrZ and their hammer train.
Zergs at the moment don’t give much leeway for build diversity, every zerg is a hammer train. You see more unique builds in small mans.
Ohhh [Bags], it looks like you dropped something….
From what I can tell you dropped 1 of their party members before they got there and then proceeded to 6v4. I won’t even mention how boring your comp looks.
Your reading comprehension seems to fail you. I didn’t complain about 5 mans. I was pointing out that someone was complaining about people not putting up a fight and running into towers, basically meaning we’re supposed to run headfirst into 5v1.
Yeah, my head hurts reading your reply
Perhaps complain was the wrong choice of words, I guess I just insinuated that from your poor example. No one complains about a single staff ele running to a tower, or when a pug runs into a tower. Its when a guild group, even numbers, or a larger force go straight to a tower/camp instead of fighting you see complaints. It happens on every server, but Yaks Bend has been the main offender in my experience.
Will you also not cry when we call you a PvD server that blobs constantly?
I mean, my comment wasn’t even directed at SBI and you’re getting all defensive.
I felt obliged to respond, not for Mag or SBI, but because complaining about 5 mans and defending tower humping made my head hurt. P.S. every server blobs, Yaks likes to siege blob.
so don’t cry about outnumbered people using siege to even things up.
You’re right, next time I won’t QQ when Yaks Bend outnumbers us and they siege creep.
Don’t confuse better with more, if by being better you mean having more guilds who do WvW is different, I spent most of the time in YBBL where we faced RISE, Abys & BEAST a lot, they usually ran together or split and they fought against pug zergs, no offense but how you compare open field battles is way too poor.
When you see your biggest guilds facing FA ones you should take notes, not when facing pug zergs.
RISE usually runs 10 people max (although its more likely you’ll run into a 2 or 3 man roaming group), so in general I wouldn’t say we’re a good measure for open field zerg combat. That being said we do enjoy the outnumbered fights your pug zergs present us.
I was running my glass set for ranger that time we fought, it didn’t have any condi removal for your perplexity elementalist. Hopefully we’ll meet again when I’m on one of my other builds.
Ah okay. Your D/D eles didn’t have any either?
I wasn’t hating on you I just don’t think rangers bring anything special to roaming groups the way they are at the moment.
I think it was more of they burned up a large portion of their cd’s trying to keep my kitten up. And it depends on how you build your ranger, on reset since I knew there would be zergs everywhere I took my most mobile build, others provide better group synergy.
Are there any good roamers I don’t know about this this match up? I know BV and DAOC pose as roamers but they are terrible. Í fought some RISE people on reset night which was an okay fight but when you run a ranger it’s like asking to lose. There’s of course Bags but I have a hard time hating on my old DR buddies and we fought them enough already.
Anyway if you are a roaming guild who would like to have some fun PM me here or in-game and perhaps we can set some GvG’s up or maybe just talk about roaming in general.
Cheers!

i would like to give a tip of my hat to the SBI guys who were patient and well mannered enough to wait for me to knock down wall of yaks NE tower last night before capping it themselves (without killing me in the process). That gentlemen was server cooperation at its finest.
That was [RISE] yesterday. We saw you had the wall almost down so we saved ourselves the supply. We were dying in teamspeak when that happened.
Good duels with the [VP] War/Ele today behind DB windmill, I was the Ele/Ranger from [RISE]. Scepter/focus is nasty when used right, I learned that the hard way. =P
Well BP Hills was nice while it lasted, pity someone had to resort to zoom hacks to destroy our siege. The few of us left in BP BL would have had a rough time defending against your blob anyways but that was the icing on the cake.
Good duels with the two IoJ [KoR] thieves and the Yak’s guys I ran into today, I was the [RISE] trap ranger.
GL to Both IoJ and Yaks in future matchups. I had fun despite the imbalance and the fact that I only got to kill the Buns once this week =(
To all SBI complaining about queues, the transfer server button is thataway.
To be fair, I think half of Stormbluff Isle is very familiar with the transfer button.
forever disappoint
Styx don’t be like that! Gate of Madness will always have a special place in RISE’s heart! <3 RH
Guardian from Bags and ranger from RISE are the only players I’ve had make me sweat since transferring to mag.
LB & GS human ranger? If so that was me. Are you the same Basic from ET? I did a double take when I saw your tag south of ruins.
I think [BUNS] and [RISE] should resolve their differences with violence and youtube videos.
We did earlier. Our pop guns overcame the might of the perfect roaming comp. (Of course I’m referring to the dual Bun conditionmancers) And once again the circle of life continues on.
The Buns “humor”
The Buns has brought some some hardcore theory crafting into us running a cheese group! A vote for the Buns is a vote for ruining fun, super serious roamers only!
Take a look at this Zombie Land video on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WRj4f5_DRgdat 1 spam tho
+1
Dat WUBWUBWUB. Congrats on learning what a border land looks like Zombie Land, may you take Jade Quarry to higher and higher places. I don’t think Tier 1 is good enough, I expect to see you soon in Tier 0 competing against our patron god, ARM.
Just opened on Gate of Madness!
A big thank you for [RISE] guild giving us some fun 4v4 / 5v5.
good people , fun guild.
4v4 !“http://youtu.be/uuFdmV-hXUk”
Dang I’m mad I missed this! I had an awesome impromptu 2v2 with you and the dagger/dagger ele at Vale in NSP BL last night. I was the sword/torch mesmer fighting with the big shiny guardian.
While I don’t know anything about the double teaming, (I usually stick to our BL) I think it was probably a response to the perceived double teaming GoM received the Thursday before reset. When we desperately held onto our keep as NSP lead the attack and HoD spawn camped us. Although, I really don’t understand the rational behind anything in EB so, blah blah blah my opinion…
Forum warrior everyone sucks but me post.
Aside from my initial frustration earlier this week, I would say the times that GoM managed to take Sunny Hill/Cragtop/Keep and hold onto it for awhile was a very enjoyable experience. Earlier today when we had a good showing of players in our BL the fights were the best this week. Also whilst exploring Kainegs BL jumping puzzle I ran into a Kaineg thief, instead of stomping the necromancer I was leveling he added me to a party. We ended up just talking thief and necro builds and skills we liked. Nice change of pace to the hostility I usually see.
