Lack of valuable loot

This thread is funny because unlike most MMO games 95%+ of the items that drop have real tangible value. Ascended crafting has made the low-mid tier stuff extremely high value, each item drop is worth more than a lv 80 item, which is a very good thing I wish more games had. There are also really valuble items like skins and rare exotics worth a ton. Trick in GW2 is knowing the value of items which is easy to determine with the trading system.

Let's help Anet make a well-priced Xpack

HoT is a great xpac hope to see more like it. New zones were perhaps some of the best I have ever seen in MMO games, lots of exploration involved, many things to do. Difficulty was good, and more challenge is always welcome.

Been reading about this on various forums and there is a fair bit of negative outlook on the game atm. I just like to say I think HoT overall was one of the best expansions I’ve seen in an MMO with a lot to do. 500 hours and counting and there is still plenty to keep me busy for some time without even getting into replay with alts. Haven’t done the new raid but hope to make time for it sometime in the future. DBL is a really sweet map(like all the new ones) but the lack of other players was a problem. Now I really hope that some time in the future we get DBL back, perhaps with the next expansion we would have DBL, alpine and a third BL map? Having the maps mirrored makes sense from a balance perspective but it always seemed to make things a bit predictable. Anyways I hope the game continues on the path it’s on without too much divergence due to critical complaint from non-players, I have enjoyed the challenge and having some long term goals to grind away at like masteries and the other forms of progression.

The concept of a traditional MMORPG is dying

I might be wrong here, but a big chunk of the traditional MMO population plays for the addictive feeling of progression and prestige via achievement/grind…..NOT for the gameplay or story. And with more actively engaging games (FIFA, CoD, Destiny, etc.) offering the same progression and grind, people are starting to gravitate away from MMORPGS (WoW, Elder Scrolls Online, GW2, etc.).

I don’t understand what you are saying now. You claim gw2 and wow are traditional but then you say traditional players are moving from said game while saying those other games are more traditional. So, is wow and gw2 traditional? _

I’m saying that:
1. Many people play traditional-mold MMO’s (GW2, WoW, etc.) for the addictive feeling of prestige and progression in an online community (makes them feel more special about their achievements)
2. Other games with more engaging and easy-to-pick-up gameplay (action games, sports games, etc.) are now offering the same prestige and progression with an online community setting.
3. These other new games are now attracting would-be MMO players (teenagers, up-and-coming gamers who are driven by the addictive feeling of prestige and achievement) and detracting from the MMO population.

A game genre needs to maintain its population in order to stay successful. As players get older, they have less time to play and need new younger players to fill their places. There does not seem to be a lot of young eager players looking to join these traditional-mold MMO’s, which is why I say they are dying.

For every 1 player joining a game like GW2, you probably have 20-30 joining CoD, FIFA, Destiny, etc. Heck, even PC games like LoL, Counterstrike, and DotA are offering prestigious cosmetic items in tiers now, some of which you have to grind or have a certain skill ranking to obtain….

1)MMO players start off and get pulled into there first world or two for that reason, however at some point it stops being about prestige and more about other things. Social, exploration, experience, challenge.
2)Once you have general skills and experience with the genre ease of entry is not exactly a high priority. Going backwards to older generation games is a barrier, although a properly updated game will have tools to learn.
3) You are probably right, although it is impossible to predict how many of those new players might be swayed to earlier generation games. As the overall market grows so will playerbase across the board. When the weakest MMO’s start going dark there will be less choices, perhaps some games will see major resurgences in their playerbase.

I would agree that the amount of new traditional style MMO’s will see a sharp decline in favor of whatever the next gen brings with new tech and design, however I do not think it is the end for existing MMO franchises. As a 30 year old gamer who spent the last 12 years playing MMO games I can honestly say I will probably never embrace the next gen, and stick with what is already on the table right now till the day I die. If I am still alive in 50 years I will still probably be playing games like EQ, GW2, TSW, WoW, AoC , BDO, WS etc. given they have active servers still up. When you learn a game you never really unlearn it, and at some point learning new games over and over stops being worth it. Perhaps there will be a few irresistible games in the future but for me I am drawing the line with the the handful of new MMO’s on the horizon as well as the chosen ones I am currently playing.

"Challenging Content"

If you are having trouble with the new content, spend a few hours/days rethinking your build/gear. Spend some time playing against the new mobs and mechanics and learn how to counter them. The new specs, and all the changes over the past 2 years add up and there are alot of new possibilities.

If you go in with a kitten build using the wrong weapon types you are going to have a hard time. I spent the first half of the first new zone getting insta-downed trying to run in and melee packs of mobs. Having good DPS, and knowing when to use ranged and when to melee makes a world of difference.

Conditions seem very powerful right now, Ive been testing builds with all the heavy classes and they do extremely well in most situations.

Prior to HoTs a single veteran was a pain in the kitten to kill with my old playstyle, now fighting multiple vets at the same time is very possible for most mob types. Bottom line: adapt, or suffer.

Silver Doubloons: a year of /ignore

It is not comparative to other legendary ingredients. If it was 100g or even 200g it wouldn’t be so bad, but it is gonna cost more to get these doubloons than the precursor. The method of obtaining these is bad. Having 4 or 5 character slots tied up in farming these is ridiculous although probably the easiest most reliable way of doing so outside of straight up farming the gold for them. This is the only part of the legendary I have made 0 progress on from regular game play.

They need to drop more and be craftable.

Could we talk about Tequatl?

Teq is the one thing that has ever gotten me to log into gw2 every day. Good rewards, good karma, not a complete faceroll, real chance of failure, but that seems to become less and less. Killed today with over 7 minutes left on the clock, anet might need to buff him again.

Hopefully we will get more encounters like this.

Wow, it is a small 5 minute nugget of story, is grouping for it really necessary? You do it once and your done with it, or you leave and do it later.

Do people really expect it all to be laid out? it could be between years and never before the details in a story are fully revealed. The player only has a limited perspective. The why and how doesn’t really matter, only that things have happened and need to be dealt with.

Im excited for EQN and wildstar, but a bit skeptical about TESO. I will still play gw2 when they come out. The great thing about games like GW2 you can drop it for a few weeks and come back to it, and the content is usually not to difficult to keep up with.

As for the story, I think anet is only now starting to hit a good stride and will do some great things in the next year. These last few months seemed to be a phase of figuring out what works. Perhaps that will be ongoing, but the quality and quantity of new content has only increased.

Hopefully the new arcs will be the epic struggle against elder dragon(s).

Infinite Gathering Tools modification?

It really sucks that they are soulbound. I would never buy more than one set on principle alone, and I would think most others wouldn’t either. So why not make them account bound instead of trying to squeeze out a few more sales and probably discourage just as many people from buying them in the first place.

If they were actually account bound I just might one day get a second set simply for the convienience of having a set for my main and whatever alt I was using at the time, but there is no way I would bind then to a character I may only ever get limited use out of.

It really sucks.. spent time completeing all the achievements prior to this and miss the end by 24 hours.

MY problem with this is that it was said earlier that there would be time after each stage to go in and complete the content. Which there was and now there isnt any time for the last stage. Based on the timetable for the previous installments there should be at least 1-2 months before the finished this.

As a warrior I have completed all the dungeons on story once except COE and Arahs as I havent gotten around to them yet. I had a tough time in all of them. Now after 250 hours and a decent amount of WvW and learning of my class I know why I was so screwed.,

Spec and gearing decisions are extremely important in this game. It isnt so much the level and quality of your gear as much as understanding what stats you want to maximize to be able to survive a heavy melee. You need at least one of high toughness and/or vitality and at least one trait line into those to be effective.

A pure glass cannon in full berserker’s is gonna get rocked in just about anything and doing 17k crits is not gonna help your group if your dead.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say dungeons seem alot harder than they actually are because people in general are not playing there characters as effectively as they can be.

The one exception is the one ridiculous possible buggy golem boss in sorrows embrace. That some crazy shiot man!
