GW2 xp rates and scaling

Westside.7213

Hi guys!

I was wondering how the scaling and the xp rates really work in gw2, my main question being:
As a level 60, is it still viable to complete the hearts in level 20 zones?

Or would I be losing alot xp there?

Also, are there any planned guides on which zones I should take care of and when?

Cause Im really lost with all these zones, hearts and dynamic events… :/

Thanks in advance for your answers, Westside

WvW D/D - Good Survivability / Damage ratio?!

Try full celestial, but with traits in wvw 0/2/2/4/6 (zephyr boon and stone splitters) and use sigil of doom to lower enemies healing. Other thing that if you think that landing 3 and 4 from fire will get you a kill – no (the dps oriented guys yes), but more will give you combos and constatnt pressure. Also well injected conditions will do nice dmg. You can make over 10k burst in 1-2 sec if you land it well (other thing with ele is mightstacking – sometimes is more important to use skill just for blasting fire field then in the enemy). Other thing – dont use earth 5 – it works only on mobs and weak enemies. Autoattack in air – it deals nice dmg. If you tell me what class did you main in pvp/wvw I’ll tell you what mistakes can you make. If you like bursty spec then you can add few zerk pieces, or play fresh air scepter/dagger.

I’d really stick to D/D if possible, as its attacks are outstandingly nice in my opinion. And yes, I want to go abit more bursty; I always got mist form to disengage if things go south, I can use RTL to disengage aswell. I can knockback enemies with the air’s 5 and I got a teleport cantrip. Doesn’t really sound like I need much more survivability. I just need to live long enough to do my thing, which I haven’t when using full berserker, because you literally die in 1 hit most of the time.

I guess I could swap out some pieces for berserker; that actually sounds like a pretty good plan.

I’ll try experimenting with the gear abit and will let you know how it works anyways, thanks alot for your input!

Thanks.

Well, celestial stats usually spread the stats all over the place, and you end up with a way too low power-value, which might be the reason why you weren’t doing enough damage. If you take a look, the power in my build is above 2,2k, while full celestial leaves you way below that (around 1,7k iirc).

Now to compare my build to Bo Van Swill’s build: If you look at the raw stats, his build is clearly better. However, he’s using his utility slots for things we could argue about, and the heal also might not be the optimal choice for WvW. You also need to remember that my build will most likely have around 12 stacks of might permanently, as well as perma-fury. Both of which his build won’t have. Also, lots of Regeneration.

In the end it’s a matter of preference I guess. And I personally still prefer my build.

Now that you put it this way; I’ll test it out and see. But I’ll definitely take in consideration both of your builds as they both look equally appealing.

Again, I thank you for your input

Newbie friendly WvW build?

A well-rounded starter build for D/D ele (while not highly efficient in 1vs1 and high level group combat) may be this one (assuming your buddy can’t get ascended gear, except for some trinkets, yet).

This sums it up pretty much, but I would like to point out some differences I would personally make in this build;
I’d swap the XI trait in Water for XII;
Note this is only effective for team play (2-4 player group as suggested); you have one less cleansing ability, which isn’t really neccessary anyways, since your water attunement dodge will cure a condition aswell and due to the vigor stacking you are almost guaranteed to gain more condition cleansing from that.
You trade the cleansing ability for the extra aura to allies; as a d/d elementalist you have 3 auras which are a significant increase in your damage over time. Note however your friend will need to learn proper positioning and combo fields to use this trait to its full extent, so warn him about it.

I’d also swap 2 Soldier pieces of armor for Knights; this will slightly lower his survivability from the first look, but will add precision, meaning crit rate; and this build revolves around it. You’ll want to crit as often as possible to activate vigor from the arcane trait line. You will make up for your loss of survivability with dodging, while still profiting from more critical rate.

This is merely my opinion; I too am searching for a perfect WvW d/d build for me anyhow at the moment, and if I find one, I will let you know.

You could also take a look at this build here:

I didn’t get to use it myself yet since I still need to hit lvl 80 on my Ele. But according to this thread, it should be quite decent.

Thanks to you aswell Saturn!

This is the exact build I’ve been using where I figured I needed more damage; The survivability of this build is insane; I don’t think I’ve seen any other ele builds being able to tank 2 DPS oriented enemies with such ease. But it really lacks damage big time.

The only difference is, I used celestial stats and this one uses Soldiers and Knights; a tradeoff I will test aswell to see how well it goes under such circumstances and will let you know!

The other build seems more damage oriented anyways, so I think I’ll stick to that one unless it turns out to be survivability lacking or if this one turns out to have enough damage for my taste.

Thanks again for your input anyhow, I wish you all the best with leveling your elementalist!

WvW D/D - Good Survivability / Damage ratio?!

Hello fellow elementalists!

I’m Warmage of Gandara, I play an elementalist for a while now and straight loving it in PvE gameplay!

However I’m more of a PvP / WvW fan than the actual PvE, so I decided to try it out. The result was awkward. At first I died within miliseconds. The reason for it was obvious; I had full berserker gear and my traits were fully damage oriented, mostly specced in Fire or Air.

After experimenting with the build for abit, I still couldn’t get enough survivability out, so I decided to use uncle Google as an easy way out.

It brought me to a defensive PvP build, which was 0/0/0/2/6/6 and Celestial stats.

Obviously the build had me alive for ages; I could tank 2 DPS oriented players for a while without any real difficulties. But then I realised; In all this time I was fighting the two, I barely took half the hp bar away from one of them. And we were fighting for ages, literally.

I don’t think the problem is in my skill, because I used my fire 4 and 3 so I got both of them hit, used fire grab properly aswell. I even managed to get 2 Earth 5 skills landed on the guys.

So I was wondering;

What’s currently a good overall (Decent survival but still good damage) D/D Elementalist build for tPvP and WvW?

Honestly, I rather do some extra damage than be a little bit tankier. I just find no fun in merely “surviving”. I want to kill. >:c

Thanks in advance for your time and help guys,

WvW and PvP Warrior meta build - Help needed

Westside.7213

Hi guys!

I’m wondering about what’s the current Warrior meta build(s) for tPvP and/or WvW, as I haven’t really played in a while now and want to get back into it as effectively as possible.

What I’m mainly looking for is sick damage. I want to finish my enemies off effectively in the least time possible and not give them much time to breathe by keeping pressure on them.

I’m only wondering about WvW and tPvP builds; PvE not so.

Appreciate all the responses in advance!

Regards, Westside.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation of the build! You all have been of great help to me and for that I thank you all alot. I will give all builds some testing now, especially the 2 phantasm builds I find very very appealing.

Again, I thank you all for your builds. I believe my request has been granted and my questions answered now.

Feel free to post any more builds if you have them though, if not for me, for the others who might be in a simillar dilemma as I were.

Thanks again,

Mesmer is really that. Never alone, or so you think. It’s a very chaotic good for me, bad for you class (as you can see with lets say Chaos Storm. Boons for me, conditions for you). Shattering is very bursty. You have a lot of clone production so really to be honest you can shatter all your clones and produce another 3 within a few seconds. You can also make yourself disappear when yo ushatter your clones using stealth or line of sighting. I’m very glad you enjoyed my guide. I’m also in Gandarra, so if you want we could meet up in PvP and I can demo the build for you. I just added something new to my guide, another source of information, so check that out if you want to. It’s in the last part od the guide where I tell you guys to watch Sensotix, Lord Helseth and so on. Take a look at Pyroatheists phantasm build. It’s a really, really good one!

Thank you so much for all the information, all the build links, the suggestions and the friendliness.

Seriously, please do keep up the good work on the forums and in-game

I’ll add you and hit you up in-game then for further discussion! :P

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Staff-Greatsword-Shatter-Guide/first

I made the guide, but not the build. The build is IMHO one of THE BEST shatter builds. The mesmer from both the 1st and the 2nd ranked PvP teams – TCG and 55HP Monks (Lord Helseth and another mesmer who’s name I can not remember for some reason) in the previous tournament used this build. I’d suggest you to try a PU condition build but since you like high numbers, shatter is your thing. It’s very challenging but can do a lot of damage. You can switch out either greatsword or staff for sword + x (I like all but pistol) and with a few trait changes (only regarding traits, not point placement) have a shatter build that plays a bit different. It’s crazy versatile and a ton of fun to play once you master it. Another good build would be a phantasm one, but it is not as fun kittenter to me personally. Try this and some of the phantasm builds suggested in this thread in PvP.

I actually saw your thread before, but didn’t really pay as much attention to it as I did now, and all I can say is; wow.

I definitely have to give that a try.

You’ve done such a great work explaining every single trait used and every single utility, it really makes me feel I might be very comfortable using this build, as there is a guide to help me learn it quickly.

I’ll definitely give the build a try and I’ll let you know how it goes. But yeah, very nicely written guide I must say!

Will look for some phantasm builds too, just to see what the damage difference is like.

The thing is, I prefer having illusions active all the time than having to shatter them alot, because once you shatter them, you’re the only combatant left on the field (unless the enemy gets dropped like a cake), and I really feel like what makes mesmers unique, is the fact that they’re never really alone on the battlefield. You’re hidden and you got company. Perfect.

I run with my Shatter/Phantasm build in WvW and it’s really fun. No PU, I’ll never use that garbage.

Hard match up are DD eles, tanky Axe/Shield warriors, which will never go down.
SA power thieves usually reset the fight tenfold, PU mesmers can be beaten with ace play.
Engineers and Condi Necros are really balanced fights which can really entertain you.
Bunker Regeneration Rangers are just dumb, you will never go down to them and they will not either, especially after Ferocity nerf.

Build is 10-30-0-30-0. Gs/Sw+P. Going to post a video and a more detailed build link later of you’re interested as I’m on my mobile phone now.

Im definitely interested. Sounds like a nice build honestly, please do post more details about it whenever possible so I can understand it fully and then test it out aswell.

But definitely looks like my type of play. :P

Hi guys!

Im Westside of Gandara and Ive decided to roll all classes to 80 before deciding which one to roll.
Im a big PvP fan (WvW mainly) and have grown very fond of the mesmer class before I even got it to 60.

So Im pretty persistent on going mesmer now. What I need though, is help finding a WvW build.

Here are my preferrences:

• I prefer using the greatsword as my main weapon
• I prefer to do really high damage, ready to risk survivability for it.
• I focus on solo roaming or in small groups
• I really love using phantasms and clones

That being said, Id really appreciate any help / suggestions you guys can throw at me. Like I said however, Id like to focus on damage mainly and if possible by using phantasms.
thanks alot in advance,

You should never sell anything to a merchant, unless it’s junk items (grey name) or when the price on the TP is the same as you’d get at a merchant. Either sell the item directly on the TP or salvage it and sell the materials if you’re not going to use them (but seeing as you want Ascended gear, I’d make sure to keep the materials you need).

I recommend dungeons even though you said you didn’t like them. There are very easy and fast paths (CoF p1, CoE p1, HotW p1, SE p1, AC p1, TA up/up are my favourites to run for some quick gold) and you get both gold directly (1.30+ gold per path), drops and you get tokens you can turn into rares to salavage for ectos to sell.

You can also do world bosses for rares to sell/salvage for ectos.

Thank you very much for the reply, it appears that I will give dungeons a try after all. Again, thank you for the explanation, your help will be put to good use

Need a strong P/D build for WvW

in Thief

Posted by: Westside.7213

Westside.7213

Hi guys!

I’m looking for a strong P/D build for WvW. By strong I mean good damage output; Im ready to risk my toughness and vitality for that extra damage, as all of my survivability is planned on coming from stealth, shadowstep and shortbow’s 5.

So, Im looking for a p/d->sb build.

The main focus of the build should be on damage output, be it through conditions or raw power (I prefer conditions though, obviously the reason I chose a p/d thief).

I’m looking forward to your suggestions, any help is really appreciated.

Umh. I was going to say EotM, because that’s the best gold I have made in a long time while trying to complete the Season 2 achievments. I presume your ‘decent amount’ is more than mine or that there is a clear difference between what underlevelled and lvl 80 chars make.

Your response is much appreciated and I thank you for it, but I was getting barely any gold during my leveling in EoTM. Perhaps if I sold all the items I got there at the trading post it might have been decent. I either salvaged the items or sold them to a merchant, cause it takes too much time to sell at the trading post and my patience doesn’t benefit the cause.

Anyhow, thanks alot for your reply and looking forward to more answers.

I might message you some time in-game to make your day and perhaps we will play some EoTM together!

That is if you are of the Overgrowth.

Badges of Honor farming?

EotM is indeed the best place to farm badges of honor, and if it is the primary source of leveling your characters, you’ll get plenty of badges for gear. As a warning, you can’t salvage WvW gear so any sigils or runes you put in are stuck there.

Your input is much appreciated Wizzey. Thanks for warning me about the sigils and runes, I really didn’t know that!

Earning Gold At Level 80 - Help required

Westside.7213

Hi guys!

I recently hit 80 on my Warrior, who I mainly leveled through EoTM. I’ve been able to get some exotic gear from the badges of honor received through training there. Now however, I realised that being level 80 actually comes in pretty expensive.

I would like to level my crafting up furthermore and I would like to maximise my gear into full ascended, so I can finally be fully geared and prepared for anything.

My question is pretty general;

How to make a decent amount of money in Guild Wars 2?

I’m mainly a PvP player; not very fond of dungeons, so if possible, I’d try to avoid them, but if there’s no other way, I’ll be happy to jump into one to gain some gold.

All help is appreciated.

Westside is merely my name, no disrespect to any guilds, players or servers meant.

Thanks for your post anyhow, appreciated.

New WvW based Warrior - Help required!

Westside.7213

Hi guys!
Let me first introduce myself;
I’m a Slovenian player from the Gandara (EU) realm. I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 for a while now, trying to find a proper profession for me. Seeing as heavy armor provides most of the defense one can get, which means it’s probably the most mistake tolerant and me really enjoying the melee fights, I decided to roll a Warrior.

I will be spending most of my time in WvW and am wondering, which weapons and gear to roll?

In PvE I usually use my greatsword because the number 2 skill is just amazing. But when it comes to moving targets? Not at all.

I would prefer to go with something that deals nice raw damage and has abit of survivability. I don’t want to be too squishy as I’m still learning the ropes with a Warrior and in combat in general, but I do want to dish out some pretty decent damage.

My main question is, what weapon set to pick, and what attributes should my gear have?

Please answer with your suggestions, and explanations.

Thanks in advance, Westside of Gandara.

New WvW Thief Starting Out - Help Required!

Westside.7213

Hi guys!

Let me first introduce myself;

I’m a Slovenian player from the Gandara (EU) realm. I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 for a while now, trying to find a proper profession for me. I thought Elementalist was the one, but realised it wasn’t so once I got it to 80.

Now I went back to trying different professions out with different weapons in sPvP and general low level PvE content, and I realised, thief was the one I want to run.

However I am still quite new to the game (the stats, the builds, the mechanics, etc..) so I am really asking for your help, opinions and reviews regarding the thief profession.

What I am going to focus on is WvW, since 90% of my online time is spent in WvW.

I’ve already figured out a decent build I’ve set up in sPvP, which is a dual dagger / shortbow stealth biased build, but I’m really sure you guys could come up with a better one.

I’d also politely ask if any of you would be so kind to explain the numbers to me;

Which stats I should choose gear-wise, why I should choose them, how is +300 Power different from +300 Precision, etc…

I am only really interested in level 80 content, as I am very likely to powerlevel the thief to 80 via crafting, as I’ve quite some spare money left on my Elementalist which I’m not using anyways.

I am really grateful for your time and effort in order to help me out.

If there is any way I can help you out back, please let me know.

Thanks in advance, Westside of Gandara.
