Does any of you have a screenshot of both at the same time? Do both auras go well toghether?
I’m going for a vampiric theme for my guardian, with nightfury, grasping dead top and pants, ascended boots and hidden gloves. Helm will be bloodstone if i ever get the crazed wyvern, and weapon is twilight.
I had 6 Ghostly stacks, but that kinda kills the vampire aura (Even 3 do! So ill use 0-2 of those). Now considering either the winter infusion or maybe light9 skin color if that doesnt work? Anyway, thanks in advance, trying to save some gold (that stuff is super expensive!). I really hope purifier gets ti use greatsword, this condi meta is screwing me up!-
Slotting Retreat! is about the same as a movement speed signet; it gives +33% speed 20 secs out of 30, for an average +22% (also it gives aegis group wide, making it arguably way better than a signet).
With pack runes retreat is 26 secs every 30, for an average +28.5% movespeed. Pack runes are a bit more damage than scholars without the 90% life bonus, about the same as ogre runes.
With pure of voice retreat cooldown is 24 secs, giving you an average of +27.5% movespeed, or 108% swiftness uptime with pack runes, but keep in mind pure of voice kinda sucks unless you run a shout build (is that even a thing anymore?)
You can also use an offhand staff to pretty much have perma swiftness with staff 3 and retreat! (only stand on staff 3 when fighting stuff, so you have swiftness when moving around and you gain symbolic avenger bonus).
If you want to forget about it, just use traveler runes; they are cheap enough, and about 5% less damage than pack / ogre.
Ranger is best for it’s melee.
Isn’t every other class (i.e: warrior, guardian, thief, revenant) better than ranger at melee?
DPS only really matters if your speed clearing or doing raid encounters that have hard checks. Outside of that anything that does roughly 22-25k dps is more than viable for almost every encounter.
It’s frankly better for you to learn to play the class on sets your comfortable with and do medicore dps, than attempt to run a build you have no understanding of and spend half the encounter on your bottom; doing no dps.
At the moment im running full berserker with ranger runes, Sword / Axe + Longbow (longbow for open world or initial burst only, so i can heal the team and share spotter and frost spirit).
I was considering switching to condi shortbow because the shortbow seems really fun, and you get to range while not being 1500 units away so you can actually be useful, but i solo a lot and if it has rampup time i guess thats a no (shame, i really wanted to craft the legendary shortbow)
Wharrgarbl camping weapons is generally considered bad. As one of our best traits is focused on weapon swapping.
As Sw/X + LB im not swapping much either. Should i run staff instead of longbow? (i kinda like bows, thats why i made a ranger in the first place).
When your looking to improve at encounters look into meta builds and ask your self why people do certain things or use certain traits. If you can’t figure out why, ask people.
I totally get the theory, but doing an attack rotation + using pets / pet buffs / utilities + dodging and positioning is just too much for me and i end up autoattacking OR doing a dps rotation.
Your LB opening mention is the way to go. As you run towards the boss, hit with barrage and RF, then just camp the melee weapon of your choice. That’s pretty close to ideal play anyway for fractals.
Isnt viper like 2x the damage than berserkers?

Background: came back (quit just after hots came out), and trying to L2P (fractals and new map). Thing is, cant deal with moving, dodging stuff, watching bosses animations and performing a rotation at the same time.
DPS wise, whats better to camp? Shortbow or Axe/X? Is it better DPS to camp sword/X as power build? (with LB opening, i do know how to do that).
Also, what are the best pets for FOTM in pug groups that dont buff much? Tiger + Red Moa for fury uptime? Tiger + bear to tank / something else? Does bear even tank in fractals?

Truth be told, on any half decent group i dont even weapon swap anymore… Noone really cares if stuff dies in 20 or 24 seconds

Yes, as a matter of fact I PUG all the time. 1 in 3 or 4 groups usually just accept all, while the remainder of the LFG system is littered with group ads such as ‘zerk+80 only, 10k+ AP, no noobz pls.’ Quite a deterrent for new players who wish to learn dungeons, but have no means to do so unless they PUG or sit on youtube for hours on end looking at walkthroughs.
And please, don’t twist my words. It’s clearly obvious zerkers don’t just spam 1. It’s just a joke of how effortless the build can be. You know, sometimes they have to press 2 on their GS. It’s quite a challenge.
Im part of a speedrunning guild and doing runs requires skill, awareness, timing and talent. Its actually very stressful for me to do the runs, so i dont run every day.
To relax I play my ranger, Rangesus the charr, with his trusty pets “how about no the bear” and “ronaldo rivas the moa” (spanish is fun!). I roam tyria watching the scenery, doing hearts and other map completion. My ranger is built how i want (pow/prec, because taking hammer hits to the face is anti-rp and breaks immersion, and i go around with my shortbow and logbow pincushioning things.
What i would never do is bring Rangesus to a dungeon run on that spec. Since i consider ranger sword to be terribad, i just bring other characters to runs. I would actually love to run gs warrior, but ea build is better for my teamates, and since im not a selfless jerk (im just an elitist jerk) i run whatever synergizes my friends builds. If i wanted to go with pvt gear i would join a dungeon party that allows that antics, i would NEVER, EVER try to take the fun away from other people by lobbing shamelessly so their prefered gameplay mode is nerfed, even if i couldnt have my way (which you TOTALLY can).
Listen to me: if you cant find a dungeon party message me. Ill get a group for you in under 5 minutes or pay you the dungeons gold reward. What i wont do is run with you (because i dont like your kind of comments).
Of course this isnt a reply to you personally, just the crowd qqing in this thread. If i can play how i want, you can too. And its actually way way way easier to make or find a non meta group than it is to find one. """SPEEDRUN""" pugs dont even know how to stack might…
Ps: i usually can survive more than a couple hits with my warr. My guard is the only char that gets consistently 1 hit, and 95% of the time is MY fault.

The role of necro, at the moment, is not in coordinated speedrun dungeons. Im pretty sure a necro can perform at least as well as a 3rd or 4th warrior (anything over a warrior, or 2 if you have a non optimal composition is a wasted slot for meta). But thats fine, therer are plenty of builds of all classes that do not fit on dungeon speedrunning. Its still better than say aion, where meta (used to be its been a while) is warrior cleric then all sorcs (maybe a chanter there) and if you played guard you were sol (since warrior tanks good enough and has more dps) and gl getting parties ranger/sin that could only dps but did less dps than sorc…

Its a core feature of the game. We dont need any specific class thats can give 25 might we just need A class that can do that (actually its pretty inefficient having a single person using ff and blasting). Dare i say you can speedrun with almost any class composition, just bring a guardian / mesmer when you need to, then fill as needed (warr and ranger give awesome offensive support, ele is a dps BEAST and thief is 2nd best at that)
We dont dodge. We just stack in a corner and press 1. Any summon (banner spirit weapon), might stack, vuln stack, block, cleanse, heal, dodge roll, interrupt, reflect, pull and dps rotations we do are just for shows when ppl stream; otherwise we just press 1 while we watch series on our other screen and we get 30g in 3hrs that way. Sorry guys, i couldnt hold the charade any longer, i know ull send assasssins after me but i cant live with this speedrun meta lie anymore.

Sorry, his argument is by no means a straw man argument (why has that phrase been coming up so much lately?) dungeons are a minor part of pve. Pve is 1/3 of the game modes. So… He’s right.
Yes it is a strawman, since I never ever advocated a fix involving changing the whole game. That is a strawman argument. If he/she is just going to misrepresent what I said, and then beat up on that, then that discussion is over. Discussions are impossible without both parties being reasonable, and willing to see each other’s side. If one of the two just goes down the alley of childishly beating up on something the other clearly didn’t say, then that is a strawman.
Inter-class-interdependence
The problem with the lack of a trinity, is that there is no inter-class-interdependence. If there WAS inter-class-dependence, then even unbalanced classes would still be desired to some agree, since they had a niche use. But once you remove inter-class-dependence, every class can fulfill the same shoes.
That sounds nice on paper, until you realize that not every class fills those shoes equally well, and some of the shoes have holes in them, due to design errors (see: ranger pets).
That is how we have arrived at the current Meta, where warriors dominate the PVE game, along with guardians. Because they are the best at mechanics that are most important in PVE. All other mechanics seem neglected in comparison.
Why would you want to bring a ranger along, when their pet is dead most of the time, and they don’t really provide any meaningful support? Meanwhile you can bring a warrior and guardian along, who provided massive support for the whole party, and really good DPS on top of that. This is why we arrived at the current Meta.
Again you show lack of knowledge. Ranger brings medium tier personal dps (about the same as warrior, probably more depending on circumstances). He brings 10% dps with frost spirit and 150 precision with spotter, which is on par AND STACKS WITH warriors ea and an str banner.
Guardians are not that good on many dungeon paths, and i would gladly take a ranger instead since it gives more party dps and an awesome heal.
As for class interdependece it is totally there. We depend on each other for 25 might 25 vuln damage buffs defensive skills interrupts pulls etc. What you state is simply not true and 1 youtube video away of irrefutable proof
I know how defiance works, and its completely broken. In the time that you’re taking down stacks of Defiant, you could have bursted the boss to death already. All that effort just for measly Fear, is a waste of time. The entire Defiance system makes it nearly impossible to reliably interrupt/control bosses when you need to. One of the main aspects of fear, is that it’s a defensive measure. It’s not only an interrupt, but a way to create a gap between you an an enemy. Defiance makes it completely unfeasible as such. When ever you need to create a gap, Defiance just goes down a stack, and nothing (… )
In our runs for coe golem boss the warrior interrupts the spin with mace5 then thief gets rid of defiant stacks (sometimes we fail because i dont pay enough attention / im under the influence of -legal in my country- substances and/or i suck at this game), but ot does work. It just requires teamwork

This is irrelevant for non dungeon speedruns, open world exploration, open world events, wvw, wvw roaming, spvp, tpvp… yet, based on a tiny fraction of the game mode (that truly affects like… 1-2% of the player base, you think the entire core of the game needs a complete redesign. If thats NOT what you said, would you be so kind to explain again? Maybe i missed something.
with the utter lack of skill required to play this game, absolutely no truely engaging high level content and no meaningfulful player interaction along with dire guild support the only thing anet need to worry about is a mass exodus of players to Guild Wars 1.
Yesterday i was very happy because we killed lupi and i only got hit once (kick) though i also put one of my banners in a wrong spot. Perhaps im utterly skilless, would you provide me with a video of you soloing him so i can learn to do it better? Perhaps some speedruns with your guild?
The game does require skill for certain tasks in my oppinion (but again im a mediocre player; it doest help that im better than 90% of people out there)

All of your points reinforce the problem that DD and supporting DD (via blind, prot, reflects, vuln and location) is the most efficient strategy in this game and has a leg up on the rest of build options.
“Play how you want” whittles down to “Play how you want…but you might not be able to perform.” Sure, realistically in every game there are going to be methods that work better than others but the key point is that there is usually some diversification. Necromancers, ranger pets and engineers are perfect examples of people being unable to fulfill roles they want (minion mastery/support/turret/beastmaster) because the AI is broken to compensate for the trinity’s removal.
No. As some1 said above you, the gane plays like an arpg mmo (closer to diablo than dark souls). There is no problem on everyone being DD, it was actually one of the games selling points. And again all your complains apply o ly to a small subset of game modes (NOT valid for spvp, wvw, nor some open world events). The other builds are MUCH better performing than zerker in the other modes.

Having said that, necro has no place at the moment in meta groups. Thats a class balance issue, not a mechanics issue.No it isn’t. Class balance is directly related to the mechanics of that class. If a class is designed around a mechanic, but that mechanic under performs, the entire class suffers from it.
Case in point: The ranger pet, or necromancer’s Death Shroud.
So in your oppinion if 1 or 2 classes out of 8 under performs in a subset of 1 of 3 game modes your fix is to change the whole game instead of reworking a class… Seems like a sound strategy!
I’m running Guardian.
1200+ Healing and “Hold The Line” still heals for insignificant amount -33% and it does absolutely nothing to awfully designed one shot bosses and you’re dead regardless of all the boons you have if you fail to dodge.
What’s support in PvE? Reflects?
Sadly your build is for wvw not dungeons. But guardian does bring a lot of support: aegis rotation, f1 and focus4 blind, f2 cleanse (and some heal/regen) and in some cases f3 stability. Also hallowed ground and wall of reflect (and their small brothers syg and soa) is used in many of the fights you bring a guardian for. In addition gs5 is used on some fights when scorpion wire is not available / practical. Besides all that guardian Brings the best dps for mid tier (or lowest for top tier, after ele and thief)
I think the real issue is not so much the removal of the holy trinity, but them not replacing it with other balanced roles instead.

Roles in DnD
Roles in dnd 3.x are tank (with dps) as seen i warriors, dps (With utility) as seen in thief and control (with util and dps on the side) as seen in magic users. Divine casters are imba, bringing supreme ammounts of tankability, dps second to backstabbing classes only and enough control and utils to make them unstoppable.
Minions
Minions in gw2 are situational, atm they are nice to have on lupis 2nd phase (embers, ogre whistle, hounds of balthazar etc)
Life stealing
Thief has some nice LS on signet of malice that works on s/p (stacking weapons). Theres not much use to ls on dungeons altoghether.
The last thing I want to do, is get into close combat. Unless I go full zerker.
If you are not close to the party you are not buffing them, and you are not getting buffs yourself. Also it makes ot a pain to revive you in case you die, leaving the rest of the party 4 maning the boss.
Fear
Does anyone still think fear is any good?
Many people do.
All bosses are immune to it, and you’ll most likely annoy your party by fearing enemies away.
As a warrior i fear malrona, se1 1st golem and subject alpha to great effect, in order to control their position and thus maximizing my partys dps and defense.
Wells
Are those combo fields? Only fire (and water) work, with shadow for specific situations the rest are terribad.
The guardian buffs better than anyone else
Not true. As a warrior i bring extra power with empower allies + banner of strength, extra prec and crit dam with banner of disc. That gives more buffs than guards (quality if not quantity).
Conditions
Are broken. It’s all about direct damage. Who cares if you can put stacks of bleeding or stacks of vulnerability on the enemy, if your party can beat most mobs to death in mere seconds by just stacking in a corner. That damage over time is not that important.
You are terribly wrong, vuln is an amazing -AMAZING- DPS increase. Thats why we keep vuln up wih thieves fgs spin and warr helps with axe2 mace4 and if he encounter allows it on my mark.
Blind
This is the one thing where I seem to make some what of a difference. But when everybody is stacking, it doesn’t really seem important to blind enemies.*
Wrong again, blinds are very important and contributes a lot in several encounters

POSITIVELY YES – If you want to play “THE ELITIST” way, you need to change your build/traits, otherwise you wouldn’t be playing “THE ELITIST” way.
Since “ELITIST” players wish to play with other “ELITIST” players, you have two choices:
a) Become one
b) Play with other people.
PLayers who like to enjoy the game should be partying with players who like to enjoy the game, why are you forcing “ELITISTS” to change?
Also, in my experience (and i pug A LOT since my GF makes me miss like half of my guild runs), what you say does not hold true.
When i find “enjoy the game” groups i usually have a blast, though i end up dead because i run out of gas being one -or the only one- with a meta build, and being a bad player. This is usually a non-issue since i usually do about 1/3 of the party DPS, so if i down a couple of times i pulled my weight.
THEN there’s leachers / nub / bad groups, that are WAY more common, that basically consist on people on non meta builds, trying to emulate meta-ish runs, and making the party wipe (and soloing the last 3% of the boss on their PVT gear, then gloating on how good their leech build is and how everyone else is nub).
Example: I was running SE1, pugs stack in the 2-golem spot, they mess up reflect, they have the golems scattered, we wipe.
I procceed to explain the fight, and how you do the 3-golem pull, and the guard answers “they were stacked fine for me, im switching my build”. Anyway, we stack at the correct spot, guardians use WoR like they should, its a slow but easy kill, and i tell them so.
Playhowiwant guard says “it wasn’t the spot, I CHANGED MY WHOLE BUILD”, i go “ok, hahaha” and promptly get kicked.
I mean, pure berserker isn’t even superior to pure assassins in lots of cases. They are usually about as effective as (in party runs or on self-buffing professions) and especially for reflects assassins is definitely better than berserkers.
Zerk >>> Sin since even in full zerk you can easily go over 100% crit (at least on warr and thief but probably guard too unless you stack bloodlust). And you still do more damage having higher power and a bit less crit chance than the other way around
In GW2 you add defense and utility through traits and skills. The guardian meta builds aren’t balls deep in DPS, they actually sacrifice some for utility.

i also don’t see how having to combine different stat gear for optimum efficiency makes things any different, you’re reaching the same goal, it’s just your gear will have different prefixes.
Its called itemization and it works this way: the game gives you options to gear up and dps (sometimes having differee t gear sets giving you about the same dps!) Instead of having a dps set (thats better than the other dps set aka assassins).
It clearly seems you never played an rpg game with a bit more mechanical depth than mmos.
Clarification: go check gear on diablo 2. It allows plenty of customization, minmaxing and theorycrafting to obtain maximum damage output, and it STILL gives you wiggle room to add defensive / utility.
On gw2 is zerker scholar all slots, all classes. Thats LAME.
And everyone will be in full zerk until they hit those cap and stack P/T/V for the rest of the slots
That only achieves forcing runs to slow down and the same gear restrictions for min-max with the added bonus of not rewarding people who can survive without the Toughness/Vitality crutch from gear.
People will still min-max gear and you or someone else will complain about that setup too.
Have you actually played diablo 2? Who said anything about slowing runs?
In my scenario you’d hit 95% critical chance, 100% crit damage (50 base and 50 from gear) and a healthy ammount of power (2.5k soft cap?). The rest of your gear would be devoted to mf / boon duration / vitality / toughness / condition or whatever you want.
This means different META builds would use different gear set mixes to achieve the same “target” numbers.
Dungeon completion time is tied to mob/boss life and its easily tweakeable to last whatever anet decides it has to.
Of course the itemization doesnt really support what im saying (having 2 stat gears with a high and low stats would be much better imho. And no its not a nerf just increase them by the 3rd stat ammount so they give the same stat pts as now)

I ran the Jumping Rainbow Unicorn Troll build for the longest of times in spvp!
Full Zeker SUCKS. In my dream world you would have to mixmatch get to get an optimum dps output, and you would do better (sustained DPS vs theoretical DPS) if you added some survivability…. Just like in diablo 2, where you would add Attack Speed and/or Cast Speed until you hit the correct breakpoints, then either DEX to block or go without it altogether (adding VIT instead), and get DPS from +skills on gear. Also you had to maintain crushing blow on melee classes, and you had critical on gear / skills as well.
So there was no “dps gear” but the dps gear was a mixmatch of properties you had to balance, AND you got to be tanky with character points (STR for gear, rest DEX/VIT or VIT).
GW2 is “full zerk/scholar GG” which imho makes it boring and uninspired (it doesnt help that there’s 1 or 2 builds per class that are optimal and the rest is crap).
Maybe if they capped crit chance / crit damage and gave power diminishing returns the game would be better, so the best dps would be a mix of cavaliers / valk / zerker / zealot instead. But i guess i ask too much.

We got a ranger (875 AP) that blindly copied a build and doesnt know what to do, but does as told and wears full zerk + ranger runes, sword/wh and has frost spirit and spotter, using sword+wh.
So, the BEST RANGER EVER ive seen on a pug has 875 ap!

Seriously, roll another class. Engis and Rangers have the same look.
All we get is nerf after nerf after nerf, the playerbase adapts and gets nerfed again.
As of now, thief doesnt even have the best burst (yeah yeah, if you go full glass and have 25 stacks of everything that other people give you you can outdps a guard or a warr by 5%…). The sane thing to do is not to play the class at all and hope they realize their class has no active players and buff them / change them.

I actually have two isp’s at home (Fibertel 6mb & telefonica 3mb) and i tried at my mother’s house (yet another ISP) to no avail. Lag makes the game unplayable; everything worked flawlessly pre-dragon bash :S

umm it have a 40 second internal CD on frenzy.. and a nother 40 second CD to get the stun you need to actually hit anything.
Then dont use GS? you should be using hammer and axe/xxx vs thief anyway.
And when you face a warrior using a GS, you know he is going to try it, because you can see him from the start.
I would say to that warrior… Weapon swich or go back to CoF p1

Just went 1 v 2 vs warr and bunker guard on my guardian. I downed the guard, got everything on CD, and you know what happened? Warr 2-hit me with axe!
Its kinda much harder to see an invisible thief…

Of course, if the thief is better than you, he will still kill you, but that applies to all classes.

nor do i have protection, or much other boons either but might.
Maybe warrs are UP? Try rolling a guardian, a ranger or a thief!!!
and about the armor… once again… doesnt matter if you call it zerker or knight…
metal is metal… leather is leather…
heavy is heavy… light is light…
Metal has +200 armor.
Leather is medium (not light).
But Knights has + toughness primary, thats +315 toughness; a leather wearing knights has more armor than a plate wearing berserk, because the plate wearer has 91 more power and 15% more critical damage.
So, thats 91 power and 15% critical damage vs 115 toughness. If we put them side by side, you get +15% critical damage and the thief gets +24 toughness… You win EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK!!!

But you say thieves burst is OP. Thieves have a marginally better burst than warr; it isnt really much higher.

Heavy armor gives +200 armor over medium. Thats 200 stat points, or 20/30 trait points. Its quite a bit! Also, those are “free”. Of course, if you go full berserk, any class with soldiers or knights gear is gonna have more armor than you. But thats because you CHOSE to go glass cannon.
Having a berserker warr with more armor than a knights thief would be stupid; think about it, why would ANYONE use anything thats not berserker then?

Thieves backstab is not that OP. My glass cannon guardian can teleport into a group of (non skilled) non-bunker players and drop them all in the time a thief drops one.
I downed 3-4 persons in under 2 seconds more than once!
Just save yourselves, focus 5, sword 2, f1, weapon swap, gs 2 (4 if they dodge, then 5-5-3 ). Thats pretty much it, if anyones still standing just judge to him and finish.
Of course, this does not work against skilled players, but then again, BS spam doesnt either (i.e: thief vs guard… backstab is blocked by aegis, everyone dodges / blinds, if thief got caught by gs5 or doesnt run away hes instagibbed.
I don’t understand OP. Would you please clarify?
1- You want warr doing more burst than thief (or at least the same), since warrior already has more DPS than thief.
2- You want a glass cannon warr to have more toughness/armor than defensive specced thief (untraited and with the same prefix/socket armor warr already has more armor)
Are those correct? Then, why would ANYONE play thief? Warr has god tier life (vs bottom tier on thief), has more DPS, more party utility, and more life. You ALSO want even more armor and more burst?
