Isn’t is possible to play D/D even in higher fractals and bosses and stuff? I really dislike staff. xD

Btw guys. Ele is my only character so far. I simply love these classes with high mobility and decent dmg + survival. I dun like having tons of survival like a guardian does have, I simply wanna have a nice balance.
What other class does have a similar plays like D/D ele? For the next class I will opt some day. ^^ I’m thinking about thief or mesmer. Both can dish out good dmg by having survival mechanics(invisible and clones and stuff). Since I like roaming a lot I guess thief might be the better choice. What do u think?

I’ve been playing D/D in PvP and in PvE Lvl 1-80. Everytime I switch to another weapon I feel like playing a much weaker, less versatile, slow class xD
It’s sad that I have to get a staff for higher lvl fractals and other stuff coz I’d stick to D/D 24/7 everywhere ^^ It’s simply 2 gud.

> coz of math stuffs but in the end it all depends on the player

sure it depends on his play skill but also on his ability to create good builds.

Yes, it does. I’m not used to play MMOs, tbh GW2 is the 1st real MMO I’m playing for a long time. I’ve played almost every MOBA out there for a LONG time before coming to GW2. And the difference between good and bad players in MOBA is easily to see how often they die. Killing people/creeps isnt hard tbh. Everyone can do it. But to survive is more important. I rather lack a lil bit dmg output but still be able to take some shots then falling down like a glass cannon. Since D/D DMG output is made by constantly pressuring ur enemy it doesnt really matter if u only hit for 3.5k or 2.8 k. These 700 DMG doesnt win u games. But dealing a lot of dmg over time by NOT dying wins it. Having reduced CC is godlike. It always was in MOBAs as it it in MMOs. Having some immunity as and some free armor is also as well very good. Since I like playing pesky bruisers D/D with a kinda tanky build seems to be the way to go.
The Problem is that I dont wanna miss at least 10 Air because mobality is waaaaay to good. Going 0 0 20 20 30 does have this problem. I acknowlede the fact that that 20 earth is a beast but there must be another possible way.
I think that people shud learn to copy “classic” builds. 0 10 0 30 30 is a beast. But many people think it’s only good coz of the dmg of water 25. Boons on its own are very awesome. Having 10% more dmg when 5 boons are up are also nice to have. But are they mandatory? I doubt it. Being more tanky and having more cc reduction are WAY stronger than these + % of dmg. Like I said. When I deal 3 k dmg and have + 10% then 3.3 k dmg…c’mon who cares about 300 dmg when you have this much survival that u wont die in a blast?
Getting some points into earth is way stronger. If u feel that u need more life u can still get some vit by equipment and jewelry.

In the end it’s like I say. Personal preference. These are my opinions about some stuffs. And I will try to make a solid build on my own. daphoenix is a very good player (concering playstyle and builds) and he and his thread gave me tons of ideas to try things out. For me I have to try the best balance between: Armor, Life, DMG, Heal Power, Mobility, CC-Reduction, Boons. I’m not the one speccing into cond. dmg. Since it can be cleared by many classes and since real dmg > cond. dmg any time (IMO).

Thinking about this already like 6 hours. I have to try it when I’m in game again.
I like Evasive Arcana. But lets be honest. Do u guys “spam” dodge rolls all over? Most of the time it’s more situal and you arent going to “waste” endurance for nothing, so most time u use roll to dodge or to heal when attuned to water. I know that you can have other effects on dodge rolls BUT most of the time u use Evasive Arcana for quick heals which are awesome.
Now about my thoughts. 0 10 20 20 20 OR 0 15 20 15 20.
When you have more armor and be more tanky DO u need the heal of evasive arcana? I dont think so. Reducing DMG Vs. more heals.
When u get massive cc-reduction with Earth + Melandru + Food do u need these many cond. removals? CC-Reduction Vs cond. removals. (Does cc-reduction also affect bleed, burn, confusion and poison? Or is it only good against stun, cripple, chilled and imobilized?) This thought includes 15 in air + 15 in water.
Another cool thing is that u can take armor of earth over cleansing fire. Double Armor of earth + MORE DMG reduction thx to it? I kinda feel like a steamroll, lol.

I cant even say which one is better because in the end everything seems to be viable. xD Just another idea I’m looking forward to hear ur opinions about it.

One last thing. I rarely use my elite skill. I simply dun like em. They all aren’t this strong. I do know that u can use Fiery GS for some other escape methods but they aren’t mandatory IMO. I also dislike tornado. Summoning stuff might be o.k. for PvE action but in WvWvW and sPvP/tPvP it’s not really reliable. I haven’t tested it but I guess in higher fractals summoning an elemental wont get u anything as well. Racial skills are another option but playing as an asura my elite are really limited.

PS: Sorry for my english. I know it’s not the best.

I think in the end it all comes down to personal preference. There are still many peeps around who do the math and say build x > build y coz of math stuffs but in the end it all depends on the player. You wont be successful if ur gameplay is crappy lol.

I will try some builds. I will play D/D for most cases and will switch to staff for high lvl fractals coz I guess it’ll be better for ranged attacks and support. Therefore I can do a lot of stuff. I will try S/D as well to compare it to D/D playstyle but since D/D is a very versatile and does have answers in all situations it the best jack-of-all-trades build.

What do u guys think about the alternate setup of 0/15/10/15/30?
I know u lose some cond. removals but u get some free toughness + armor of earth and another good “nuke” on switching to air. The downside is that u lose the boon +% dmg but with more crit dmg I think that you can compensate that. (I do not know the in game maths! xD)

I’d like to run a 0/10/10/20/30 build.
I just wonder if 10 in earth are better than the +10 in water. I dont need these many cond. removals on water since I run ether renewal and maybe go for cleasing fire as well.
I just wonder about if these +2%/boon are these strong to pass em for more defense.
What about air 15? Is the dmg okay? I might as well consider to take air to 15.
What are ur experiences with conjure weapons? Are there any really usefully ones? Okay, I see the benefit of Lightning Hammer sometimes…but tbh, it’s not needed, isnt it?
Armor of Earth <> Cleansing Fire. Any ideas? I know that both cantrips are special in different things but isnt fire better in most cases? Less cd, dmg, cond. removal. earth seems only decent when casting churning.
Does anybody use 20% cdr on cantrips? Since all cantrips do have high cd, I guess that it’s VERY helpful to have these 20%.
Do u guys ever use another weaponset besides D/D? I simply love D/D. It’s so funny and special in its own way. But do u use a staff maybe for siege defense or for dungeons and stuff? How viable is the D/D build in dungeons and FOTM? If it’s possible I’d love to play D/D 24/7. It’s just my most prefered weaponset.
Anybody tried to go with 0 in air while using http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_the_Centaur or http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_Altruism ? How good is healing power on D/D? I’m thinking about going for more aggression instead of playing full vit/tough/heal or sth. Might be personal preference to find the perfect balance between def and off.

Yeah. That’s what I thought. I’m lvl 27 right now and it’s a pain in the kitten switching attunements. Takes soooooo freakin’ long.
What do u think about earth? Are 10 in earth this viable? I guess that I will drop 5 points as well in water for having 15 in air for more lighting strikes and dmg. And with ether these 30 in water arent this much needed. +2% dmg for each boons on the other hand seems very powerful, I’d keep it I guess.

Haha xD Hot stuff xD

I wanna go for some terrible hybrid air/earth/water/arcane d/d. Ether is made for such a build kinda. I will try some stuffs out. Do u guys think that 30 arcana is a mandatory? swapping is quite cool with 60% cd but how about evasion a…(dunno how this trait is called xD)? Stronger than having some more dmg/toughness?

What’s ur gear? Pow/Vit/Tough? Anyone using more prec or heal+?

I’m just new to the ele and I wanna see a comparison. I’ve been testing signet atm and it’s okay, since I’ve been PvEing so far. But Ether seems very strong when used correctly while it’s on a short cd. With Ether and Cleansing Flame there shud be enough cond. removals. I’m thinking of cutting points in water to put them into earth coz this extra toughness is sometimes very helpful. And what about earth 1? How good is it? Gaining extra toughness while channeling Ether? Any ideas?

Supportive Build?

Whizzy.5723

Ah. Good ol’ grenades.
I see what u did there. It’s great to stack vuln. when playing in a team. Dats for sure. It boosts ur dmg as well.
The main problems I have with this build:
I dont like grenades and bombs.
I dont like the explosive tree.

I acknowledge the dmg and the chance of stacking vuln. with ur build. But I’m more opting for a allaround “support” build. I know that EG has been nerfed with the last past. But there arent any other options left. I can use TK for control and stuff. But overall EG might be a better choice for “real” support issues.

I still dont know if 409 + Super elixir are overkill in terms of cond. heal

That’s a good point. There is still the question if 409 is overkill. When I can keep up a light field 24/7 for condition removal why shud I use 409 as well?

What do u think? Is this one too much of an overkill? I’m not feeling 100% confident with the traits maybe I could switch sth out.
I think of having centaur rune set which gives aoe swift on heal. With kit refine and EG it seems really kitten.

I’m running the same build atm. I just use R instead of S but this is own playstyle.
It’s very versatile, deals decent dmg while having tons of hp and does have a nice utility kit thx to TK.
I wanna try out to swap TK with EG to see if it’s better in cases of supporting.

Supportive Build?

in Engineer

Posted by: Whizzy.5723

Whizzy.5723

Ye, they hit super elixir.
But it’s still better for supporting than using TK isnt it? With kit refinement it’s really nice.
Is #1 really this bad? So using my rifles #1 for most of the time shud be the way to go.
Fumigate sucks anyways, poison is bad only for heal reduce usefull and dmg is REALLY bad. xD And yeah, I’d cleanse anyways with ym elixirs. If the dmg output of EG is so bad I shud not spec into the +15 dmg trait.
So u wanna tell me that EG is only good for 4 and 5 with 5 being nerfed? Hmm…TK is great for its utility. Throw wrench is awesome, especially with cripple. Shield, magnet, nails all are usefull. prybar deals good dmg. But it’s close combat. Like my rifle. I usally do my rifle combos, use TK use its skills while rifle is on cd and the switch back. I thought supporting with EG would be a more viable idea. Hmm…

Supportive Build?

Whizzy.5723

Hey guys.
So far, I’ve been playing some power rifle + elixir build to deal decent dmg while having elixirs for cleanse, buffs and support. TK was my only kit for the cc and support mechanic. I like TK especially with throw wrench. Another nice short cd dmg option.

Recently I’ve been playing a lot of dungeons with my friends and I wonder if I shud try an EG/elixir build. The major problem is that I’m more of a close combat player with my rifle and switching to TK doesnt change this. Since I’m not playing a full glass cannon build I’m not doing this much dmg with rifle and TK anyways. I wonder if EG is a good answer to deal with these issues. I like supporting my team anyways in a lot of ways. I dont need to do this much dmg when having other options I can opt for.

I was thinking of a 0/30/0/30/10 or 0/20/0/30/20 build or sth like that. Do u guys have any builds or advices for me? How important are traits like “increasing range” of EG or +15 % DMG? I guess kit refinement is mandatory coz it’s awesome with EG. Elixirs are also a must have. (In my builds and in my optionion). I wanna aim for using EG for long range combats and rifle for close combat in most cases.
What about +heal? I know that heal scales really aweful so I guess I wont spend some points in this.

Is it a good idea to try out a EG build? Like I said, I like supporting, tanking stuff while doing some dmg as well. (While DMG is the least I’m focused on)

Elixer C or S

Whizzy.5723

I was running Med Kit as well in the beginning but I had the same issues like u.
Running some more elixir oriented build having 409 in the alch tree gives me free cond. removals as well as supporting buffs for me and my team. That’s why I running elixir H as well. (I really love a straight forward heal with some decent buffs.)

Furthermore if it comes down to survival and u die very often I would suggest elixir R in most cases. It’s a stunbreak + refills ur endurance on the one hand which let u have 2 more extra dodges for free which is very good when playing offensive AND defensive. And it’s the best way to have some free survival when u arent packing vit or toughness like u do.
And on the other hand it grants u some really AWESOME toolkit skill. It can revive people around u and even u if played well. Pop R on the ground near death and see how u get healed up while downed..its such a gamechanger sometime. I use it in party play a lot for having a high ranged res if I cant reach my mates and while playing solo it helped me out a lot as well.

Whizzy.5723

Hey guys!

I’ve been looking in the forums so far to check out different opinions about our #6 heal skill.
We got Elixir H, Med Kit and Healing Turret as u know. Everyone claims dat his heal is da best out there…but c’mon. Hands down: What’s da best in numbers, support and utility?
What are ur combos, opinions and traits for using them?

Recently I’ve been playing with Med Kit and it seems to be superior. But having the right traits in Alchemy might benefit Elixir H as well. What do u think? And what’s with dis healing turret dat kinda gets instant destroyed, when I place it? xD Maybe I just lack some turret skills. xD

Generell questions about kits, sigils.

Whizzy.5723

Hey guys,

got some questions.

1. Do sigils work in offhand weapon when u use ur mainhand one? e.g. I’m having a sigil which gives me +x when I hit at crit in my offhand weapon. Does it only proc when I crit with my offhand weapon or does it proc in generell even when I’m critting with my mainhand one?

2. Do I lose my sigils when swapping to an kit? Do I furthermore lose the “Reinforced Shield” trait when switching to a kit?

3. There are sigils that give u bonus effects when u swap to the weapon the sigil is planted in. The engi does only have one weapon slot. I wonder if kits do count as a weapon by their own. Does the weapons sigil activate when I switch to that weapon while having a kit equipped?

Thanks in advance!

Hey dood,

very interesting build.
I’ve started an engi some days ago and now trying to hit a PvE / PvP build and this is by far the best build I’ve seen in here. I love being some kind of tanky bruiser who wrecks havoc among the enemies. VERY good build! I wanna post my changes and ask about ur opinions.

This build is for PvE as well as for PvP (though I’m playing elixir gun only for PvE purpose. Could swap it for elixir s or c).

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcIQJAqel0picX3SdF1LJxIFdW0hUYfDDSR9BsoC5H

I like to deal some dmg on my own and that’s why I packed firearms into my build. Dealing DMG while getting swiftness all time will help for escaping and chasing down peeps. I kinda like raising crit chance with firearms, while crit dmg is raised as well by tools anyways, I kinde feel that a mixture of both is a very good way to go.
This build is more aggressive and more viable in PvE in my opinion, it just lacks a little bit of heavy condition removing skills, but I think it’s better to deal more dmg while still soaking up a lot. Precise Sights will increase ur overall dmg as well as for ur team.

What do u guys think of it?

I dunno if Elixir Gun is viable in PvP playing with this build. Or do u really need Elixir S THIS much? Gun does have a lot of supporting abilities…hmmm…

EDIT:

The + 200 added to condition DMG in Firearms also raise confusion dmg.
