What have you found that made you smile?

There’s a few conversations in The Grove that make me smile, when I manage to catch them:- the one between the Asuran male and Sylvari female standing near the gate to LA, where she’d asked who the golem’s mother was; a Sylvari talking about seeing these “little people” (children) for the first time; the reactions of two Sylvari when they ask a Charr about war (again, near the LA gate)….

Hi everyone!

Gryphons Without Wings (GWW) is an Australian/NZ based guild, currently in the process of rebuilding.
We originally formed in the days of GW1 and have carried over to GW2, having been with the game since Beta.
(We still pop back into GW1 from time to time, as we have a few members playing through the original).

We’re looking for friendly new faces to hang out with who love to have fun in Guild Wars 2. We do all things PvE, whether it be exploring, jumping puzzles, dungeons, fractals, Living Story etc. We also have some members that enjoy WvW and would love to expand our presence there.
Raids we haven’t done yet, but it’s on our radar and we’ll jump into them once we have enough people interested.

We:-

  • Are based on the Isle of Janthir server (with some also on Sea of Sorrows)
  • Are mostly PvE/WvW, with a small smattering of PvP
  • Have weekly runs for Fractals/Dungeons and Guild Missions (GMs currently run on Sunday nights)
  • Like to see and encourage guildmates helping each other, working as a team
  • Do NOT expect our guildmates merely ‘mooch’ off others
  • Have TeamSpeak, however it is NOT a forced requirement (and do not discriminate against those who don’t have it)
  • Are looking for people who love playing GW2, whether it be casual or hardcore.
  • Welcome players of all levels, brand new or veterans, core game/Free to Play or HoT
  • Are a laidback, friendly bunch with mostly a typical “Aussie” sense of humour, are mature but with a good sense of fun
  • Require that our guild members be respectful of others always
  • Like to foster a community atmosphere within the guild, one that feels more like a group of friends playing rather than a bunch of random strangers.

So if you’re in an Australian/New Zealand compatible time zone and are looking for a home in GW2, or just want some good company while exploring the landscape, come look us up!

You can apply via our website at: http://gww.shivtr.com/forums

Or contact us in-game:

Winter's Presence Feedback [merged]

Not sure how useful this will be to players having trouble with this jp, however what seemed to help me was practicing on the jp in Caledon Forest, Spekk’s Laboratory.

Biggest thing that threw me when I first attempted the Wintersday jp was the speed at which you had to jump. Spekk’s jp also has vanishing platforms, and you have to move pretty quickly…plus it has check points. Practicing that one a few times did help me tackle the Wintersday jp with at least more confidence.

Still took me a few tries to get (well, quite a few, but I’m stubborn), but I managed to get past the snowflakes easily enough, after a while. The exploding presents on the other hand….well, they seem easier this year, less random (or maybe that’s just me?)

Try practicing at Spekk’s then come back to the Wintersday jp, don’t give up, just concentrate on getting that one snowflake further (ignore your health timer, to a degree, keep thinking about it will make you lose concentration on the jumping).

Oh and just thought….whatever class/character you make now, head to Divinity’s Reach (Human city) for some Wintersday fun! No level restrictions (well, must be at least level 2, which you’ll be from doing your Tutorial).
Enjoy

New Player Questions

If you’re downloading the free version of GW2, I guess I’d say wait until you’ve played through some content and tried out a few different classes until you buy the expansion.
For the HoT expansion you need to be level 80 anyhow, so you have time to explore and familiarize yourself with the game before deciding.

As the above poster said, there are no mounts currently in GW2.
Pets…the Ranger class has actual animal companion pets, which are spread all over Tyria and need to be collected, or ‘tamed’, in order to have them all. 5 (I think) are in the HoT expansion.
Mini pets are mostly obtained through the Gem store, are cute and follow you around but aside from pretty useless.
If you’re ultimate goal is NOT going to be Raids (requires a 10 man group) then really any class is viable for solo PvE.
A Hunter sounds a little bit similar to the Ranger, in that it uses ranged weapons (bows) but sadly no rifles. It has swords for melee, and as mentioned, is the one class that collects and uses pets as companions. Might be the one start with for you maybe?
Some classes can be tricky for a new player to get used to straight, for example the Mesmer, or say even the Engineer (mainly because it can take a while to unlock the skills/traits that make the Engineer pretty fun to play).
From what I’ve just briefly read of the Death Night, GW2 does not have anything like that.
We have the Warrior, which is straight out melee, heavy armor, or you have the Necromancer, light armor, focuses on Death and Death type magics. With the HoT expansion it does get the Elite trait of Reaper, which is more of a melee role. Necromancer or Reaper both are, in my opinion, fun to play, easy to solo.

It’s really going to come down to trial and error on your part, but you will need to invest some time into a class before deciding ….unlocking Traits (abilities that supplement your skills and gameplay) has a big impact on how the class plays.

A couple of general tips…accept GW2 for what it is , an MMO set up differently to most others. There’s not quite as much hand holding in the start areas as some other games, but if you pay attention to your mini map it will guide you.
Quests are mostly done by completing Hearts, or an NPC might call you over asking for help which will often lead you to an in game event.
Don’t be scared to help other players, you won’t lose xp, neither will they. As mentioned by another poster, there is no kill stealing, or loot stealing. Each player is rewarded for their part in a fight/event.
Karma is a reward given by completing Hearts and Events….personally I’d advise to not spend it early on, as it is very useful for late game content, for armor or for some materials for crafting Legendary weapons, should you decide to do so.
Dungeons for the most part are not soloable but require a party of five. Generally not too hard to find a part though, using the LFG tool (press N for the friends list, is one of the icons down the side). First dungeon is not available until level 30 for what is called Story Mode (a one off version) and explorable (repeatable paths) at level 35.

Starting to ramble a bit, hope this helps a little.

Good luck, and welcome to GW2. Hope you enjoy your stay

(bah, took too long to type, just read the post above, covers about everything and far better worded)

Gryphons Without Wings [GWW] - Aust/NZ guild

Gryphons Without Wings [GWW] is recruiting.

Hi everyone,

GWW is a relaxed, easy-going guild currently looking to expand our guild with new, active players of any level. We’re mainly a PvW/WvW focussed guild, however PvP’ers are also welcome.

We are looking for players of all levels, who:-
? - are friendly and social
? - are actively playing GW2 (casual players welcome)
? - are mature minded but fun loving
? - act respectfully towards other players
? - are willing to represent our guild
? - are compatible with Aust/NZ time zones

We’re an Australian based guild, established in 2008 by a couple of friends originally in GW1. With the release of GW2 we decided to open our doors and welcome players to hopefully grow and expand our guild into a friendly, social community that people would like to call home.
Isle of Janthir server is our home world, but we also have a base on Sea of Sorrows that we’d like to grow as well.

Applications are welcome at http://gw2gww.guildportal.com .

You can also contact either myself in-game, character names Khalidah or Kacela Makani (my character on SoS) or our guild leader Wolfgar Ionshield.

Hope to here from you soon .

He has checked through his mail (ie has cleared enough to get past the 10 item limit) but it’s not there. Was just hoping there was a way to trace who you gifted stuff to.

Oh well…. thanks for the responses guys, think any future gifts I send I’ll take screen shots of before sending. Won’t mean I’ll get the things back, but at least I’ll know who I sent it to.

Cheers.

Gem store gift to others....traceable?

Wildfire.3947

Hi, not sure if this is the right forum to ask, but as the topic says I was wondering if you ‘gift’ an item to a friend from the gem store, is there any way to check or track who you sent it to?

I sent a ‘Chop-It-All-Logging-Axe’ to friend last week (or whenever the offer ran out, either the last day or second last day of the offer) and he hasn’t received it.

Haven’t been concerned as his mail is slightly bugged in that it doesn’t tell him when it’s full, and he doesn’t check it often, plus I wanted it to be a surprise. However it did get mentioned tonight, he’s checked through his backlog of in-game mail and says it’s not there.

So I was wondering… is there any way to trace who you gifted an item to?

I’m 99.9% positive I checked the name carefully before sending the item, but if he’s not received it can only assume I ticked someone else’s name on the contact list (neither person above or below his name have been in game for a while, so can’t check with them).

Thanks.

Gryphons Without Wings (GWW) - Aust/NZ guild

Gryphons Without Wings [GWW] is recruiting. We’re a relaxed, easy-going guild for players who want to have fun in the game and are inclusive of all styles of play (PvE, WvW and PvP players welcome). We would like members who enjoy adventuring together, and our main overall rule is to be respectful towards other players.

Established in 2008 by a couple friends, with the release of Guild Wars 2 we decided to open our doors and welcome players primarily located in Australian and New Zealand compatible time zones, although we welcome members from all reaches of the world. The guild has its home on the Isle of Janthir server (one of our officers is on Sea of Sorrows too), but we accept players from any server (and hope guesting will soon become available so we can all team up together).

You’ll find our web site at http://gw2gww.guildportal.com where you can join us right now!

If you’d like an in-game invitation, just whisper one of our officers, Wolfgar Ionshield, Khalidah or Kacela Makani (suggest adding us to your Contacts list, so you can talk to one of us when we’re logged in).
