Sound effects for armor?

Customize screenshot filename?

Willowfalls.9814

I’m not sure what OS you’re running or whatever, but why not find the screenshot you’re looking for by setting the preview icon size to extra large. Then it’s fairly easy to just scroll through looking at images for a certain background or character. When set to extra large, you can easily see whether the shot was taken in a zone with a snowy background, desert, trees, etc, and what character is in the shot. In Windows, it’s under the View menu>Layout in file explorer.

I take a lot of screenshots also, and this always works fine for me. I actually like them being named sequentially because I remember things chronologically and can find the right screenshot folder (I number them sequentially once each one is full) and image by just scrolling through them and looking at the images.

I think this got a little off topic. The request is that Anet implement a way to buy the items sold by the Mordrem Researcher again. There is currently no way to get the currency in game (mordrem blooms), and therefore some really cool items are now totally unobtainable. The collection idea seems like it would work.

Wanted to open a request to bring back a way to either earn Mordrem Blooms (the currency for the Mordrem Researcher), or have the items he sells available on another merchant for a different currency.

As it stands, there are some really cool items (halo/horns for one) that you can look at buy not buy because the currency is no longer obtainable in-game. Could some other currency be traded for Mordrem Blooms perhaps?

Will all visual effects be restored?

There was a promise that the visual effects would be brought back in April. So far, only the fireball has been restored. (Maybe I’m forgetting a couple others.) But there are still a LOT of effects like auras, lightning, aerial strike (F5 for thieves), etc., that haven’t been restored. Would love to see these brought back.

Personally, I was extremely impressed with Mike’s straight-forward, honest, and timely communications. He said it like it was, and didn’t waste time doing so. That in itself improved my faith in the company. Granted, it was an unfortunate situation, but I think they handled it extremely well.

A token compensation would only be met with complaints that it wasn’t the right thing for everyone, or wasn’t enough. What are they going to do? They’ve got an excellent track record in terms of service up-time, so this is bound to happen eventually.

It’s not quite a ghost town. I think a lot of people have just gotten tired of no news, or are waiting to see if Anet delivers in April as promised (me included). But we haven’t forgotten. It’s completely baffling to think that this game company would shoot themselves in the foot by taking away awesome looking graphics that they’ve already invested the time into creating. Isn’t that one of the things that sets one game apart from another, how cool it looks? Sometimes I really think Anet is being run by their competition.

And btw, Hirosama, I don’t necessarily think Gaile is wrapped in up the “neither confirm nor deny” scheme, I think she just doesn’t know. Which is what she said. So, given that she is usually one of the most considerate and rational official voices on this forum, let’s give her the credit she deserves and trust that she’ll advocate on our behalf to the right people and bring back word when she has it.

WvW big overhaul later this year will be too late…:(

This, and the sad part is WvW in GW2 could be absolutely epic compared to any other MMO in history. Many games have tried hard to have the kind of pvp participation that WvW has attracted here in Gw2 and its an opportunity missed if its not saved and expanded upon.

And if something is going on I’d be sharing that with the community and praying it helps to slow the exodus that is, and has been occurring….

Someone with vision…please wake up.

Agreed. My friends and guild mates used to spend every night in WvW for at least the last year. After the expansion, we tried it a couple of times and hated it. Haven’t played more than probably 30 minutes in the past couple of months. We provided feedback, but it apparently fell on deaf ears like so much of the feedback here does.

If this thread isn’t accomplishing anything, why are they backing off the aura changes? As to why these have been stealth mods that are totally not in the patch notes, that’s another good question. :/

Haven’t been to the forums in a few days, and was surprised to find this on the third page. Has something happened to auras to make them better?

The visual nerfs are still awful. They haven’t listened or fixed any of it unfortunately. It’s very, very sad, but it appears that this is one of those topics that they just don’t give a rip about. Evidently they have their reasons for making the changes and they feel that those reasons completely negate any feedback to the contrary. It’s just disappointing that they can’t even be bothered to say as much to all of the people who have posted about this topic that is so important to us.

State of the Game Update —Q1 2016

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Willowfalls.9814

Willowfalls.9814

My feedback on the quarterly update is this: I honestly don’t understand the fascination with tweaking our spells every couple of months. Seriously people, this is a VIDEO game, not a sporting event. (Yeah, I know about the whole e-sport thing…) Anyway, the fantasy aspect of this game is FAR more important than whether this spell or that one is a little over or under balanced.

You’re just messing with people’s contentment with the game by constantly changing things. It’s like you’re more interested in the perfect balance in this “sport” than in understanding that people play these games because of how they look and whether the characters have cool spells and stuff. At least that’s why I play. I do dungeons or raid zones, not because I like doing them but because I want something that I can only get by going there. And that something is usually a piece of armor or a weapon or something you can SEE and will look cool on my character.

When I first started playing Guild Wars 2, I thought the skills/spells seemed a little underwhelming and they were all kind of the same. No profession really stood out. I came from another fantasy game, and the classes/professions were really unique, which was cool. I liked being strictly a healer. Here, everybody’s a healer and your best heal is your self heal. Okay, fine. Took some getting used to, but I got used to it. At least the game looked absolutely amazing… characters, landscape, spells… it all looked totally awesome.

Then we started with the “improvements”… first it was the town clothes that went away (no cool mixed outfits anymore), then the visual nerfs, and now everything’s up for grabs every 3 months. That doesn’t make sense to me. People DON’T like change. That’s why companies have whole change management strategies. Even if a change is good, people are generally resistant to it anyway because as human beings, we kinda like what’s familiar to us. I like knowing what my character’s skills do, and knowing how to use them. When you mix it all up on me every couple of months, it’s frustrating and annoying, not fun.

Now don’t get me wrong, ADDING things is awesome. In my humble opinion, what you guys ought to be focusing on is what cool things you could add to the game (armor, zones, effects, races, gems store stuff, whatever) and spend less time worrying about all these little changes all the time. That’s just REALLY confusing for the players.

Feel free to flame me if you must, but I’m just speaking my perspective on what I care about, and I suspect I’m not the only person who feels this way. I really like this game and I hope that you’ll take into consideration my point of view along with everyone else’s.

People who work at Anet: We the players actually like things to look cool in a video game like this. I get that some people want to see the boss in a big fight. Can’t you just give them a switch to kill the overload of graphics in those situations and let the rest of us see the awesome graphics that were once a part of this game? I’m not sure if you just don’t realize it or what, but the cool effects when doing spells and such as a HUGE part of what makes this game fun. The stuff you’ve done lately is just taking the fun away. And this is a game. It should be fun, or else what the heck are we doing here.

Something broke with today’s update (Dec 15). Female human characters now have a twitch in their left arm. Every once in a while (but regularly at a certain point in the animations), the left arm will snap or twitch slightly to get back to a starting position for the next animation. It’s quite noticeable and other people I play with see it on their machines too, so it’s not just me. Cosmetic, but really annoying. Please get them to a chiropractor as soon as possible to fix this.

What Anet doesn’t seem to realize is that some things are sacred in a game like this. When players create a character and put time and money into making that character be what they want, you don’t just pull the rug out from under them. People have invested of themselves and their resources on the trust that Anet will be respectful of that investment and not just rip things away. Yeah, I get the idea that it’s their game servers and all that. But I’m just saying that there is a certain level of trust that gets destroyed each time they do something like this. The visual effects for the spells that your character has are part of the character’s “appearance” and when you start destroying those things 3 years into a game after people have invested to have a character that they really like, it’s a real slap in the face and makes us question whether anything is sacred.

I’ll just say that the last game I quit, it was due to across-the-board, drastic changes in the character’s appearances. All of a sudden the developers thought it would be a good idea to make “improvements” and they took away the character that I had put years into building up and getting just the way I wanted. I’ll spend money on appearance items and whatnot because that’s important to me. But when you butcher the trust that I place in your company to respect that, it damages that relationship and I’ll take my money elsewhere. I don’t want to do that here because this is truly an awesome game, and a big part of the awesomeness is the artwork (characters, landscape, effects, etc.) Just keep giving us more cool zones, content, armor, etc. and I’m happy.

But please, please get a clue and don’t mess with people’s characters, of which spell effect visuals are a BIG part. They’re what makes the character “feel” powerful and magical. With this silly flaming pea shooter, I feel like my character has been neutered, and it’s downright embarrassing and depressing.

I hate to compare to Guardian because I don’t want to turn any of Anet’s visual noise wrath towards them. Nobody deserves what they’re doing to the game. You’re right about the sexy visuals being a HUGE part of the draw for this game. It’s a game that has prided itself on looking stunning, in the landscape, the character models, and the spells visuals. It’s unfathomable how they can think that killing that and ticking everybody off is a good idea for the future of this game.

In case you haven’t noticed Anet: We, the players, are extremely unhappy about you messing up our spell effects. I don’t want to play a character with lame looking spells, ESPECIALLY when I’ve been playing for a couple of years now with fantastic looking effects only to have then ripped away. That is a really, really crappy way to treat your customers. Put an option in that lets us turn off (or turn down) the effects for other players, but put our spells effects back the way they were. It’s really stupid to take the sexy pop and sizzle out of an awesome fantasy game like this and ruin it for your customers who keep your raft afloat.

There are literally hundreds of posts complaining about the visual noise reduction, but almost no thank-yous. The reason is that when you take away visual effects, you take away the very thing that makes their character feel powerful, magical, and fun to play. There are always a couple of exceptions, but I think it’s safe to say that nobody wants the cool effects taken away from their own character. Complaints have been about too much noise from other characters. So please give us an option to turn those down for other characters, but let each person have their own stunning effects. Our characters are supposed to be magical (throwing fireballs, summoning lightening, etc.), and the only thing that makes that magic come to life is the visuals. They have been so well done in this game that it tears at the soul to watch them be stripped away with each new patch.

As of a patch about a week or so ago (early/mid July 2015), my characters are now weirdly learning forward and have stark, overhead lighting on the character select screen. What the heck was this change for? They looked great before. Now, quite frankly they look rediculous with odd, disproportionaltely large heads.

Okay… Is this a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things? Sure. But I just don’t understand why anyone thought that a change was needed in the first place. The characters looked awesome before, and they accurately represented what you see in game. Now, not so much. In fact, I find them quite disappointing to look at now. There are plenty of other places to spend your development time. Taking something that was good and making it not as good is a waste.

I would just like to voice my anger at this new system. I thought it was going to be a huge improvement (to some extent, it is), but the transmutation charges are a huge fail. I had 30 transmutation stones before the update. Which meant I could transmute 30 items for my appearance. After the update however, the stones turned into “charges” and when I double clicked them all, my overall amount of charges became 10. I am so kittened, man. I worked really hard for those 30 stones. Now I have 10 charges. SLDKJFSKLDJFSDLK OUTRAGE. Seriously! its a straight up ripoff!

Totally agree. It is a rip off that you can only transmute 1/3 the number of items that you purchased t-stones for.

Frankly, this update and the absolute silence that followed from Anet has felt to me like one giant middle finger to the players, particularly those who cared about town clothes.

(I hope that is an acceptable way of expressing my perception of the Anet’s attitude.)

I mean, any kind of a response from the company at all would be nice. Even if it was “We hear you, and we’re really sorry that the new system isn’t what you envisioned. We’re working to fix the town clothes fiasco, but it will take some time. In the mean time, we are unfortunately stuck with the changes that we made because it’s really impossible to undo at this point. Please bear with us.” …That would be better than nothing.

No response at all says, “Don’t care. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”

Pre-April 15: GW2 was by far and away the best MMORPG I ever played. Absolutely loved the game. Town clothes were a big part of that. When I and my friends would stop between fights, we would switch to town clothes and synch-dance. So cool.

Post-April 15: I honestly don’t enjoy the game anymore. I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but it is absolutely true. I hate almost everything about what they did to the game. Thank goodness for a few other key games right now. Sure, I do play occasionally because I have some friends who still want to, but my enthusiasm has completely been destroyed.

If you could do just one thing to help make it right by the players, please, please consider reversing the town clothes changes. We don’t want tonics and inability to dye the clothes we bought. We want the coloring and mix-n-match options that we used to have.

Thirteen pages and counting, consisting mostly of complaints, and I haven’t seen a single response from the company acknowledging the feelings of the player base. Someone please tell me that I’ve just missed it somewhere else, and they are looking at options to help alleviate some of the pain we’re feeling around town clothes.

I know their policy is that they usually won’t respond directly to people’s complaints in the thread itself, but surely there should be some official communication saying, “we’ve heard you, and we are considering what we can do to make it right.” And no, I don’t consider refunding gems “making it right”.

I think it’s fair to say that there are a lot of people waiting for that message from the company before making a final decision on what to do. As for me and the people I play with, that’s our feeling right now. Maybe they’ll acknowledge that they made a mistake or underestimated the strong feelings of the player base. If not, it’s a real shame. In the mean time, I’m filling my time with other games as I am too disheartened to play at this point.
