There are things out there that don’t require the use of kits but having at least one makes a huge difference with the amount of utility you can get from it even if you don’t use it for its damage.
I normally use a kit in my build but I find Net turret and rocket turret to always be a good thing to fall back on simply due to how easy it is to chain ccs with them.
Elixir U is a good skill to look at I find it meshes well with Elixir B and then you can use Utility goggles for a stun break as well as a good source of vulnerability.
I will definitely experiment with all of this. Thank you!
Could use the elixir gun.
You also point out an argument about 1v1’s with turrets. In the general game and pvp, that argument falls flat, since the classes are not designed with 1v1 in mind, and are designed with group play in mind.
If you decide to go against kits, which are arguably the bread and butter of the class, then you are deliberately kittening your character.
What argument? I simply stated that I did well with turret in 1v1 situations.
I have two that I use.

-Pistol build that focuses on spreading conditions with crits and in general, buffing yourself with solid condition removal with elixirs. And

Meant for getting big crits, and critting often.
Plus, it gives you a very powerful rotation that does insane damage:
Rocketkick>Analyze>Surprise bullet
This all happens in the space of one second, as the only one with a cast time is rocket kick. All do damage, and spawn a lightning discharge, which does good damage and has a chance to bounce back onto your guy.Alternatively, you can swap rocket boots for tool kit, as its toolbelt is better for the burst as it is ranged, unlike rocket kit, but that is preference.
The second build sound pretty sweet! I tend to lean towards more of a survivable build though, but maybe I should change it up!
Hello! I am new to the Engineer class and was wondering if there are any good builds around that don’t require the use of any kits. I may be able to make an exception with the flamethrower, but I see a lot of people using it. I made a rifle and turret based Engi last night and did very well in several 1v1s. I found this play style to be very good against melee classes, but struggled against ranged.
So basically I want a sPvp build that is well rounded but doesn’t require the use of kits. Thank you for your time.
It does seem to be a zerg fest. Whenever a greater numbered group rolls onto a node, they will get it.
Hi Wrath,
One thing to keep in mind is that combat roles are no longer married to specific professions. Every profession is capable of support, and has the option to build toward a support-oriented role. Some classes just have more support options than others.
Guardians are built on defense and teamwork—heals, shouts, boons, condition removal and combo fields. Water Elementalists have some robust healing options. Warriors can play effective midline support using Longbow and capitalizing on shouts and banners. Engineers have versatile means of supporting a team—medkits, grenades, turrets. Even Necromancers, Mesmers, Rangers and Thieves have different ways of strengthening their team and acting as “force multipliers.”
I know it sounds like generic advice, but I strongly encourage you to Check out the GW2 Wiki and read up on the Skills of every class.
Guardian is the class I know best. You’ll find a lot of solid Guardian builds cropping up in this forum. If you’d like, this is a link to a Guardian build I’ve been working on. It’s a versatile, team-oriented build that performs well solo and capitalizes on big, satisfying crits to fuel its buffs:
Thank you for the advice! I should have been more specific; pvp is my primary concern. I just wanted some general advice about how different support specs play. I am definitely reading the wiki and your thread.
I am still fairly unfamiliar with this game and I would love some opinions about which builds fit the support role well. Whether it be healing, buffing, etc.. Could someone give me a profession, the type(s) of support, and a brief description of what the playstyle is like? I would greatly appreciate it.
