There’s no point in wasting time and money on customers you already have, they’ve bought the product and support you, and will more than likely continue to support you because they bought it for one reason; they like/want what you have to offer. All they have to do for those consumers (us) is continue to put out forms of content. Everyone at the conventions are more than likely video game fans, more than casually, and already know about the game. Great products market themselves through word-of-mouth.

Everyone saying there’s huge costs for everything… it’s really not that expensive to produce “marketing” content in house, or run a successful marketing/pr campaign. Especially if they partner with another company. Just look at the BMW Films and James Bond partnership if you want to see an extremely effective, low-cost campaign that was solely designed around capturing a new consumer base.

That aside, who knows the internal metrics and politics of the company, perhaps they’re far exceeding their expectations so it just doesn’t matter and isn’t worth it to them at the current time to worry about marketing.

No, BP, i for my part do not shake hands with you. This went beyond mere “drama”, and in case you do not know what your server accused us of or how you guys behaved this week, then you apparently do not visit your server’s Forum. (If any Forum mod wants to know what i am talking about, please feel free to contact me).

By the way, which server does your commander transfer to, the one that said he would transfer if YB doesn’t come 3rd this week? I will personally pay for it if he transfers to Maguuma.

You are correct, I obviously do not, as I stated above. I made it clear I just transferred, have no idea what’s going on, and don’t really care. It’s a video game, play for fun and don’t concern yourself with the forums, problem solved. You’re getting angry about people from around the world typing words onto a screen and posting it on one of gazillions of game websites.

As for the Commander, I don’t know who or what you’re even talking about again. I run with [VP] when they run and we don’t throw up tags, the other 50% of my game time I spend in PvE.

Well Stone, when they do that and Borlis apparently adapts and learns to defend towers, what other results could you expect but to be called out for defending your lands and fighting for victory?

I guess it’s supposed to be pretty obvious that learning to counter instantly makes you a lesser player, and “scared” of their superior skill. What the leaderboard says is obviously a lie, and no indicator of who fights harder or smarter.

@Amins/GF Guild,

To preface I will say I respect you a lot for your contributions to the Guardian forums, and by that extension your guild. I transferred to BP three days ago and joined VP. I haven’t fought many of you personally, but I have run for quite a few hours already with VP, and I don’t think any of the times we encountered the larger EB/YB zergs we backed down, we stand our ground or go in and do our best, if we die we die.

I’m not aware of what this big drama is, or why everyone wants to have such a huge kitten measuring contest over one tower being defended, but it’s whatever. A Yak’s [LOOT] (I think) zerg went by our SE Tower on YB Borderland this morning, and I spotted a GF Thief off to our West and dropped down to pursue. I’m only a Rank 16 Guardian and only have the one toon, so I’m not vastly experienced, but I dueled said Thief until a friendly BP Ranger came by to apparently help me, then broke off and met the Thief at ruins so the Ranger wouldn’t interfere. We continued South and /bow’d and dueled again on flat-open ground until I got the upper hand and downed her, then I left her to heal up, /bow’d again and we ran off separate ways.

I seriously don’t get what all the fuss is about, everyone fights differently, and skill means different things to everyone. Sure we all trash talk in our own Guilds about our opponents and we all hold out waiting to see that one [Server] [Rank] [Tag] [Profession] player again so we can measure up and duel, and hopefully win, but really, why take it to the forums?

@Everyone,

Just keep the forums clean, it’s a community spot after all. This isn’t Barrens Chat and I don’t know about anyone else but I would much rather see, “Good Fight BP, it was an awesome test of skill for us to 3v10 you and win!” “Wow GF, way to slaughter our three times larger force, good fight!” than “l0l t0w3r d3f3ns3 1O1 BP scrubs suck at life brah, l2p game how we think it should be played”.

I didn’t bother to look who started the drama, our side or yours, but lets just shake hands and get over it. Anyways good fights, I hope to duel and smash forces with you all in the coming days if we get matched up again.

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

I rarely post here, but after reading this thread twice over, especially this last page, I cannot fathom why all of you are arguing. Anyone who has ever spent more than one second on a Guardian should honestly look at this thread and face-palm hard.

For the sake of keeping it short and needing to get back to homework, I’m just going to reference and talk about the second page of this thread.

All of this applies to the current state of the game as of 2/27/2013.

1.) People start off arguing the usefulness of a Berzerker Guardian vs. “Support Guardians”? All I have to say here, is you do realize that NO MATTER WHAT armor you’re wearing, you can still trait and adjust your 6-10 in the exact same way? All I read, and all anyone can read, from arguments like Hanna’s is this: “Some people have better awareness and dodging capabilities than I, so they shouldn’t be allowed to run gear that increases their damage while still being capable of traiting the same as me and providing the same support.” A perfect example of this can be found right here, and…GASP full Berzerker while using a Sword/Shield or Focus for support, while doing a ton of damage! Impossible!

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/79899-the-ultimate-guardian-build/

2.) Both the GS and the Hammer provide FANTASTIC utility for certain groups, compared to most other weapons. For High DPS and Experienced Groups, NOTHING beats out the ability to pull all the mobs together and nuke the living hell out of them (through BURST DAMAGE, which has been talked about above as being bad apparently) before they can even begin to return the favor. The Hammer is the exact same in terms of usefulness, except for lower DPS, or less Experienced/Coordinated Groups. You can stack permanent protection and keep mobs together, or locking them down, although more loosely, while knocking mobs off someone going down, and providing lots of boons through the blast finisher.

High end players and groups survive on their own, that’s why they’re high-end. Most of them are mobile the entire fight and constantly moving to avoid, or dodging attacks. As such they don’t need Hammer’s Protection.

3.) Who are any of you to tell the others what’s better to use? You don’t know them, you don’t know their skill level, you don’t know what they enjoy, and most importantly you have no idea of their group compilation or needs.

4.) My final point, you really want to see what’s going to do the most DPS? Do some testing on the level of the Guru forum goers, I don’t see any of you making spread-sheet compilations like this and testing possible options. Also, in the event you’re going to argue with this one, the man who made these sheets and has tested the “max damage” build, concluded he’d use the GS for DPS, it’s on page 5 of the first link I believe.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/79926-guardian-dps-calcs-spreadsheet/

TLDR:

1.) Stop talking about DPS, your testing is irrelevant compared to that of the Guru players, GS wins, see link two.

2.) You don’t know group comps and needs, so don’t try to act like something you use is optimal for someone else, and if not then they’re wrong/less intelligent/less skilled.

3.) @OP You’re not forced to do anything, play how you want.

I hope you all have a fantastic day, time in game, and time talking to each other from here on out. Enjoy the game how Anet intended you to, by playing HOW YOU WANT and BEING AN AWESOME COMMUNITY.

We as a guild do AC 1-3, CoF 1-3, TA1-3, or CoE 1-3 quite often, generally at least two of the dungeons completely through a night.

In dungeons where Cores/Lodestones drop, I and everyone I run with get at least a bare minimum of one core, usually two or three, and rarely a lodestone. We all pull at least one to three Rare’s from dungeon chests, and usually, again at a bare minimum, one Rare from enemies, if not two to three. In addition someone generally tends to get lucky and get at least one Exotic from the higher-end dungeons, after running one or two dungeons completely.

When we’re out in the open world, doing World Events that drop them big ol’ loot chest, however, we almost never get anything better than Blues, sometimes we get really lucky and get a Green or two, and sometimes someone praises the RNG Lords for giving them an actual Rare, but no one I know has ever pulled an Exotic from any chest at all.

When it comes to actually running around PvE zones, it’s a total crap-shoot. Sometimes I’ll get two Rares in a day, but usually I’ll get zero Rares for several days, and I’ve done map completion 100% on two toons, 98% on another, and working on a fourth toon right now.

We have a couple guild members that run full MF gear and Buffs, and they never seem to get a larger amount of any type of drops.

In addition on the PvE front, as a Guardian I quite enjoy soloing lots of Veterans and Champions, and I cannot recall a single time I’ve gotten more than 67 Copper and a Rag at best from “harder” enemies that are supposed to drop better loot.

In terms of Ecto Salvage rates, I know my sample size is tiny, but I’ve salvaged maybe 40-50ish Rares in the last couple weeks and gotten a return of 18 ectos, whereas October/November I would always come out with a good number of ectos.

Something is definitely not right at all, go back to the GW1 loot system or something, anything would be better than the current, and I get tremendously good drops by most peoples standards.

Hey everyone,

My small guild has been based on SBI since the beta, but due to the community and WvW falling apart, and the seeming lack of a PvE scene in Lions Arch these days, we’re looking for a new server to call home.

We enjoy:
-Mainly PvE/PvP
-Having a good time and solid fights in WvW, but don’t care much about ranking
-Dungeon Running
-Rolling Alts/Map completion
-Active, fun, kind community
-Seeing people in PvE Maps other than Cursed Shore

We’ve heard Sanctum of Rall, or Isles of Janthir may be good contenders for us, but we’re not sure. We’re also Pacific Time based, so activity during those primetime hours would be best!

Thanks for the help!

Blind Exposure - Not working as intended?

in Guardian

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

Hello everyone,

I noticed that Blind Exposure was doing some strange things, and decided to test my observations on groups of five Risen, each pulled with Binding Blade to me.

When activating Virtue of Justice (traited into Justice is Blind), which applies blinds nearby foes, every foe would get blinded, and three stacks of Vulnerability, no more or less every time I tested it.

However, when I used Leap of Faith, each foe would become Blind, as well as receive 15 stacks of Vulnerability, three for each blind applied to nearby enemies.

Is this intended, is VoJ broken, is LoF broken, am I missing something, or what?

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

Yes it is a nerf, what I gave is the best case for what it could do before. That assumes that you are always hitting a target. The downside is that you HAD to keep attacking to keep the healing going. Also, I ran 0/30/30/5/5 The only healing I was getting was from that trait. I didn’t have anything to increase the healing from AH like Empowering might.

I wasn’t arguing that it wasn’t a nerf, just that it wasn’t an incredibly huge one, it toned down the easiness and strength of a lot of (in my mind/opinion) far too strong builds.

I concede that your build will be hit quite hard, but your build is quite uncommon. It’s not the end of the world, just the end of some very easy-mode builds.

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

I already HAD perm vigor. my whole basis of my build was the self healing from that trait. at 75% crit with a 1h sword over 5 seconds i would crit 7-8 times with just auto attack, thats about 490 healing done. Now it is just 70 healing. It is honestly a huge nerf for me.

So almost 200 health a second (with virtue ticks), with just auto-attack isn’t at least semi-OP in some way? Considering that healing can be done solo? And as a Heavy Armor Profession?

I’m not seeing the basis for a just argument about it being an ultra-massive nerf. It’ll promote people learning to dodge properly and become better players, as I see it.

Honestly, that trait was OP at the cost of only 5 points. AH is still good in big fights.

Its still OP now, just in a different way. Its basically perma vigor for anyone with halfway decent crit chance.

That’s exactly how I read it…

-Took away easy mode so we can distinguish between good/bad players.
-Gave us perma-vigor.

I automatically assume, since this is a game forum, and an MMO one at that, that my response will be trolled, but lets be honest, AH was easy-mode for sure, in a group. I switched to Monks Focus a few weeks back and still rarely die as a Guardian, assuming I play sober.

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

To be honest with you, after two weeks of trying Trung’s build I have yet to find a problem with a 15/25/30/0/5 build yet, that wasn’t due to my own lack of skill or smarts. I DO NOT do PvP yet, and haven’t tried many fractals, so I cannot attest to those, but I can attest to Solo PvE, all dungeons, and Tier 1 WvW (Stormbluff Isle).

I run with Zerker stats, using a GS + Scepter/Focus, and they both destroy. I died often at the beginning until I learned to time my dodge rolls and Meditation heals, and also found conditions to be a problem. Conditions wise, I didn’t have Purity or Inscribed Removal, but found Purity to be plenty for resolving my problem, although with a WvW focus I would definitely throw on IR.

Additionally, WvW is absolutely hilarious, if you catch a portal bomb, casters, etc. you can absolutely destroy them with a well timed WW+Symbol (and I assum MB). More often than not I find casters to be specced and geared glassy, and a simple JI + BB + WW will knock 2-5 of them down in one Whirl, especially if they’re busy laying siege to something.

I’ve been testing out other traits, but not weapon sets yet, although I have been tempted to try a hammer, so if you do, you should post your results!

Cheers!

Do you enjoy running dungeons? Going on T6 mat runs? WvW? sPvP?

If so, then we may have a home for you!

Morz Ante Infamiam (Latin for ‘Death Before Dishonor’) is a small, (currently) Dungeon focused group, with plans to expand into WvW and sPvP after establishing a solid core group of players. We currently only number at 9 players, due to letting inactives and exploiters go.

We are casually elite, conquering most dungeons in very limited amounts of time, with very few, if any, wipes. We are looking for players of mid-higher skill level to help grow into “Casually Elite” players, with a strong emphasis on breeding camaraderie, a sense of belonging, and friendship.

Activities:
-Dungeon/Fractal Runs
-Map Completion
-WvW
-T6 Mat Runs
-sPvP
-General hooliganism

Do not pursue joining if:
-You enjoy exploiting game mechanics
-You do not enjoy doing dungeons how they were intended to be done
-You cannot take jokes
-You do not like vulgar language

If this sounds like the place for you, post here or (preferably) contact me in-game via mail or PM!

Damage Numbers

Posted by: Wrath x CrAzY.5741

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

Hey everyone,

I’m curious about what kinds of numbers everyone is pulling in PvE, especially in Dungeons, and only when fully geared in Exotics. While not near as important as keeping people alive through providing buffs, and removing conditions, I still like to pull decent numbers, as downing mobs leads to less player deaths and eventual victory.

I recently switched gear and builds, running with 30 Toughness, 20 Honor, 20 Virtues, running full Knights with Superior Doylak Runes, Greatsword w/Sigil of Accuracy, and all Berserker Accessories:

Remember, I’m specifically curious about how my numbers compare, while in a group, while buffed.

Skill 1/2 Non-Crit: Mid 800’s – 900’s
Skill 1/2 Crit: 1800’s-3100’s, average is about 2300’s
Skill 3 Non-Crit: 4000-4500 if all hit
Skill 3 Crit: 5500’s-6300’s (Had a freak WW hit for 6800 yesterday)

Is that decent for a Guardian? Or do I need to step my game up.

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

Despite the condescending tone of the person two slots above me towards those of us that do feel bad about the changes and at least want some more explanation on the why and where of the changes, I have to add that many of the discussions you see here are not about the retaliation aspect of the change. You may also note that in my whole post above I have not once used the word retaliation.

I do not see any condescension in my post. The Retaliation comment was not in regards to you in any way, but in regards to the official patch notes, seeing as they state clear as day why they made the changes:

“We are moving towards retaliation being more of a counter to taking many hits rather than a general boon to keep up all the time. We also wanted to improve the combo finisher of the guardian, so we reorganized guardian greatsword skills to the following:
Skill 2: Whirling Wrath (10 second recharge)
Skill 3: Leap of Faith (15 second recharge)
Skill 4: Symbol of Wrath (20 second recharge)”

Retaliation was being abused in PvP and WvWvW, seeing as you could keep it up indefinitely, thus Symbol of Wrath had its CD lengthened.

ANET states that they “wanted to improve the combo finisher of the Guardian”, so they shortened the CD on Leap of Faith.

In addition, it makes the Symbol builds based more on bursting and situational awareness in my eyes, as the list of traits affected by this change are all AoE bursty or AoE Healing, the later of which is quite strong if allowed to be up constantly.

I’m not sure what you’re still wanting an explanation on, but I was not intending to turn this into a flame battle, despite my snarky first comment.

Greatsword Change [merged]

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

Despite the condescending tone of the person above me towards those of us that say to get over it, I have not been affected at all by this change, besides getting used to the new layout for 20 minutes.

I cannot fathom how this patch “broke symbol builds”, it makes it so you can’t spam them all the time, big deal, it didn’t “break traits”, it made ONE symbol CD longer. Throw 30 points into Honor for Empowering Might and Greatsword CD reduction. With my current build, I didn’t notice any significant DPS drop from this patch at all, and I’m glad Retaliation Spammers aren’t going to give us a bad name anymore, it was OP in WvWvW/PvP and that was that.

Don’t use a cookie-cutter build from a forum post that doesn’t make any sense to you. Make one you understand and enjoy, and you’ll pull numbers just the same as before patch, and if not then roll an easier class, like Warrior.

(edited by Wrath x CrAzY.5741)

So when are we going to get real traits?

in Guardian

Posted by: Wrath x CrAzY.5741

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

I’m seeing a slight disparity here.

Confirmation Bias Fallacy. You’re seeing a slight disparity because you’re cherry picking Warrior Traits and Guardian Traits in order to confirm your bias that Guardian traits are somehow lacking.

Traits you should be looking at for a better view of Guardian trait synergy and cornerstone traits for builds:

  • Eternal Spirit
  • Renewed Justice
  • Right-Hand Strength
  • Altruistic Healing
  • Monk’s Focus
  • Vigorous Precision
  • Empowering Might
  • Supreme Justice
  • Absolute Resolution

If you want to illustrate the disparity between Warrior and Guardian traits, the aforementioned list is just a small sampling of the sort of powerful Traits Guardians enjoy which are wholly unavailable to Warriors, for very good reason (that reason being Warriors aren’t Guardians.)

Would someone please make this man lots of cookies and mail them to him?

HoD vs JQ vs SBI (Score Screen Shot)

in WvW

Posted by: Wrath x CrAzY.5741

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

As someone coming from PvE into WvWvW (representing SBI) this past week, I have only a few words for you all.

In the SBI Lands this (past?) week (JQ was not in the rotation), we had one solid pack of 30-40 running, and one man scouting all the HoD held areas, with no real coordinated effort. I never saw any double teaming between us, or HoD for that matter, and said third server, or really any of the third servers players in general, it seemed to be our small band getting wiped by a much larger HoD force over and over. Our one commander eventually grew tired and left, and it turned into a circus.

At one point, maybe 20-30 Asiatic Persons (I personally have no knowledge of their languages or character differences to determine where they were from) got on, and I followed them down to the fort (?) on the lake in the West. They hit the walls, took a look at the mass of HoD players attacking, swam around behind said HoD players, and wiped every last one of them within maybe, MAYBE 30 seconds. I don’t recall seeing a single person escape, except one valiant Asura (mesmer I think), with a TA (?) tag who tried very hard and futilely to hold whatever camp thing we then took. I’d say the only problem for SBI is a lack of coordination among ourselves and a lack of players, my three guildies and I all got into WvWvW as soon as we hit the button to get in line.

No offense HoD players, the TA (I think was the Tag I constantly saw over my dead body) people have their kitten in line and destroyed our small force every time we saw them, even when we had them outnumbered, but they rest of you are like a huge mob of unruly Kindergartners running around, and you did, far and away, have a numerical advantage.

All this coming from an inexperienced WvWvW player, so take my observations as you wish. That was the only time I have ever played WvWvW, and it was in a few hour block.

Disconnects between zones/instances

Wrath x CrAzY.5741

I looked through a couple pages of forum threads, and looked in the big Error 7 thread, but didn’t see anyone else mentioning this specific problem.

I constantly get disconnects when trying to switch zones via waypoints, simply walking to portals between zones, going into Personal Stories or Dungeons, etc.

I never disconnect other than at these times, and it’s always Error Code 7:11:3:189 or whatever it is. In order to get into wherever, I generally have to go through the log-in screen multiple times and have my client close on me over and over until it finally loads, or have to close the client and wait for several minutes before trying again. My roommate has this same problem, and we have tried ALL of the recommendations regarding this error code, and ensured our campus has all four necessary ports open.

Anyone else have this specific problem and found a solution?
