Yes, there was a significant drop in end of dungeon gold payout likely in hopes that it would move people to the new and more promoted (like fractals) content with Heart of Thorns (even though there’s a chance they moved to Silverwastes instead to make their gold.) This suggestion didn’t just come from an incentives perspective however, there’s sort of dearth in theme variety and thought it logical to gain access to things like inquest assets to decorate with from Crucible of Eternity or some of the nightmare court/sylvari architecture from Twilight Arbor.
Though I am also not ruling out that I’d like to see some of this implemented in a place like Fractals of the Mists, content currently being promoted and already has promises of new rewards.
So among the many things in the most recent quarterly patch, I find one of the most fun of the small additions are the decoration trophies dropped from various raid and open world bosses. While as decorations they are ultimately just various fragments and body parts, it allows guilds to have some creative fun in the hall by participating in specific content and they can then ultimately upgrade through it their members repeating said content. A similar system added to dungeons would be a small, but nice way to add unique rewards to running the dungeon paths that guilds can have some fun with.
My suggestion would be to add these trophies as a random drop of about the same rate as the boss trophies in the large dungeon chests that spawn after certain sections (or even the final bouncy chest.) Once traded in with the guild hall vendor they would be small, relatively nondescript decorations themed after the dungeons they came from, that can later be upgraded- though not necessarily into actual trophies like the boss ones but more like decorations using the assets used around the dungeons and areas similar to them. I suggest the small, base decoration come from the chests instead of from tokens to incentivize running the path instead of the PvP reward track- though items bought with tokens such as gifts and offerings could be used by scribes in the upgrading process.
(If a player is not in a guild, or is simply uninterested in the decoration, then perhaps they could be able to sell it at an NPC vendor for a small amount of copper or silver simply so the player feels like they weren’t unlucky enough to get something entirely useless.)
My questions:
What exactly happened to Rata Novus?I think it’s kind of implied/said that Chak overran the city?
It’s implied, but did the Asura not see it coming? Did they all just decide to stay their and die? (although that seems likely given that they didn’t flee Primordus). I don’t know something seems a bit off about all the Asura of Rata Norvus being dead and gone, at least some must have survived?
You have to dig around for the reports in the open world but the gist of the events leading to Rata Novus’ downfall. One report mentions that they set up a kind of defense perimeter to keep the chak from burrowing in that should work so long as there wasn’t any power fluctuations. Another report mentions harnessing a source of power from the ley lines- doesn’t look like that worked out for them. (My best guess is Rata Novus was zerg rushed by the chak, hence lack of survivors. Good ol’ asura hubris probably works in somewhere too.)
It’s worth noting that the stock human NPC line when referring to Grenth is “May Grenth shield you.” Meaning Grenth has some protective qualities, or at least viewed on some level as a protective entity by some humans- which you could definitely work in for a guardian!
1) eeeeeh I would read up a bit on the term g*psy and how the Romani people view it (the word itself has usage as a racial slur, not a commonly known thing but I would avoid it if you’re not Romani yourself)
2. Norn draw a bit from Scandinavian cultures, true, but to call them Scandinavian is inaccurate (as I’ve seen some players that are actually from Scandinavian countries attest.) Norn are norn. For lore-friendliness I would stick to ingame cultures, not real-world. As far as naming conventions go, the norn have been in contact with other cultures for centuries so it wouldn’t be unthinkable for other naming conventions to slip in, especially if they/their family have lived in such areas (Lion’s Arch is a big one that’s come to mind but there are a few norn in Kryta/DR)
There’s something interesting about the symbols on the papers in the wastebasket of the crying man. Are they doing business with them or is it hints to their mysterious leadership? (The Consortium is an asura established corporation after all so I wouldn’t be surprised at either)
I would have probably missed this bit of dialogue myself, so think you for the screens Konig!
On what Scarlet’s Rattle may be my first inclination is it’s what the respiratory issues caused by the miasma are being called. Liongaurd Healer Halloway mentions that those that survived being affected by the miasma describe “it’s like being scraped from the inside out” and “They got a cough that’ll haunt them until they die.” I would think the introduction of Scarlet’s effects on the Dream would be introduced in something a little harder to miss and would be told as sylvari-specific.
Probably not definitive proof for or against the existence of friendly krait, but thought this piece of information might be of interest/contribution to the thread: during an portion of the norn personal story (the gaurd the mists one) I recall Havroun Weibe summoning allied krait to fight by your side. You can’t talk with them like you can like you can other typically aggressive species NPCs like Thruln the Lost or Qindova, so it’s still rather open ended but it can suggest the Raven Havroun found a way to get a few krait to cooperate with him.
Also, seeing to what extent the Lionguard and Captain’s Council will go when deputizing people in the recent living world patch ::
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Escape_from_Lion's_Arch_(living_world)#ambient_dialogue… something tells me that I would have been accused of being an Aetherblade supporter and hunted down by the Lionguard if I didn’t go along with that mail anyways.
Are you referring to Evon Gnashblade? That’s rather different, given how they sought him out, while us players were not. Not to mention Kiel and Evon are bitter rivals – I kind of view that as Kiel abusing her power in times of need – which Aetherblade Retreat, was not. And Evon would only be shot because he’s already been deputized (against his will; while we were with our will).
You’re comparing two completely different scenarios.
And keep in mind that the dialogues happening in the open world technically happen after the escort events. Just as the Marionette event only happened once in lore. Thus, Kiel’s forcibly deputizing Evon is after he took his merchandise through the last active asura gate in the city and shut it down before civilians can get through, effectively abandoning the entire city and subsequently going on “I told you all!” BS-ranting.
It still sets a precedent that makes me think about what could have happened if there was an option to ignore Kiel and see ingame consequences of that action. (…Maybe the gift Scarlet sent me wouldn’t have blown up in my face?)
I think you might be missing some context to Evon’s conscription? He’s probably the biggest arms dealer in Lion’s Arch and most of the Liongaurd’s armories were probably destroyed or occupied when Scarlet and her allies attacked. It seemed like a more practical than political action on Kiel’s part (although I wouldn’t rule out that the council made a more directed focus on him due to his actions at the asura gates) so why would she bother hunting you down? It would be far more effective to just assault the Aetherblade hideout with a Liongaurd force than to spend man-power to hunt down a single adventurer that’s out of Lion’s Arch’s jurisdiction.
Also Scarlet being Scarlet, yeah it would have still exploded.

As Aaron said, there hasn’t been any instance that we know of where a the ritual was performed on a construct made by and Elder Dragon that didn’t have some kind of pre-corruption intelligence. But the ritual doesn’t seem to negate the draconic energies that animate the minion, see Twitchy the very decayed Risen chicken being fine after the ritual and not collapsing into a pile of decaying giblets, so reverting back into just stone and lava is unlikely.
Seeing as Edrick was likely killed after Thorn (if Wynn the ghost can be believed) the candy-corn stuffing was probably done by the revolting citizens of Kryta who were also the ones that replaced Thorn’s head with a pumpkin. There’s a possibility that the part of the family that was shamed by Edrick’s actions was on Thorn’s cousin side (who ascended the throne after Thorn’s death), but if he such a monster he brought shame to Oswald Thorn of all people then… wow.
The “sealed in a box” part could have been that Edrick inherited some of his father’s formidable magical power- the kind of power that led the citizens of Kryta seal Thorn’s into several boxes out of fear. That they might have shipped is all the way to Ascalon is interesting.
Or there could be different and new developments in this regard! Looking forward to this release!
I assume you’re talking about the figure on the right? Looks like a charr and judging by the horns and shoulderpad it could possibly be Rox.
Caladbolg (the greatsword he’s using) is actually more like an environmental weapon in that anyone can wield it- in fact in the sylvari personal story you use it for one mission. The skills on the sword are just similar to weapon skills available to the professions you listed. Trahearne’s profession is indeed a necromancer.
The level of shrieking resentment against a video game character in this fandom loops from comical to “go outside and take a deep breath.”
And just killing him off would be lazy and disappointing. There are plenty of improvements in terms of characterization and presentation but saying he somehow bruised your ego and therefore should be lynched is out-right WHINY
Actually, in a Vigil quest after your first disastrous trip to Claw Island where you recruit Fibharr Yogsson you meet Wjerd Bladeborn who’s in a fighting tournament with a female partner but expresses more interest in Fibharr.
Aside from this and the couple in the Green Knight questline, however I haven’t seen any other male/male relationships
I remember having a freak out all over tumblr about this right after discovering the god of “hard-core and misunderstood” was Dwayna’s son.
The conclusion was that the conflict ultimately was of the rebellious teen variety and it culminated it this drawing (by nyreen-kandr0s on tumblr) (Grenth’s totally into dwarven metal too it’s 109823% cannon ok)
^There was an asura named Kranxx that worked with the Vigil and had a lab in Ebonhawke. I believe he destroyed most of his lab to provide a distraction when the group slipped out of the fortress though. His krewe may have moved in and rebuilt a bit of it.
I believe one of the designers has said in an interview that Abaddon is “dead and will not return” (I’m getting this from the GW1 wiki so I have no links on hand.) In all likelihood Aby and his temple in the Orr arc was a call back to 1 and it would make sense that his temple had a great store of magic, as Curuniel said.
While he may not be back as he was in 1 (alive) I wouldn’t say that his influence isn’t still still felt in Tyria. Margonites, while sterile, are incredibly long-lived so I wouldn’t be surprised if we ran into one.
(Also it may just be a coincidence in design choice, but does anyone else see the resemblance between shades/shadow fiends and Abaddon??)
I always thought that the bandits had some really close ties to- and are probably being orchestrated by the White Mantle. A lot of bandit hideouts have what looks like an updated White Mantle symbol, although outside of one human quest we probably won’t see much overt activity from them until we have areas open up towards the Isles of Janthir/Fort Vandal.
I hopped on my ranger for a Ascent to Madness run with some guildies and decided warhorn would be sufficiently ironic.
Hey Thorn! HOW DO LIKE THOSE BIRDS??
I fell in love with Tybs as soon as I met him as the “apple merchant.” Although it maybe strange to apply this to a charr Tybalt is downright adorable- while at the same time we did get to have quite a few insights into his past. Favorite NPC by far!
(Also: the pic is by syberfag on tumblr- plenty of other great Tybalt things in the Tybalt Leftpaw tag there)
