Go here, choose your 500 series graphics card and your operating system (it will be 64bit with 8GB of ram)

This will give you the latest 340.52 download. It’s recommended you uninstall your existing drivers first.

A 550ti isn’t a very powerful card. It’s fallen below medium-range by todays standards as you can buy a card roughly twice as powerful for £100 (~$150). So that on a 1080p is most likely the cause of your FPS issues beyond driver issues.

Remedies are obviously to turn down in game settings. Reflections / shadows are fairly big offenders in GW2. If at the lowest and you still feel you need more FPS you may want to consider lowering resolution / enabling subsampling. Subsampling maintains UI fidelty but you may find particularly ugly.

All your monitor does is display an image as fast as your graphics card will send it. It has no role in the processing to get that image there.

What is your full system spec? also when was the last time you updated drivers etc? Dxdiag if possible; will be simpler to just say what FPS you should expect.

Tried it out (again) after a long afk

Oh and I forgot to put in this, but the original thread was about skill lag – it feels a bit improved but it’s still very much there… as soon as anything interesting happens in game and a squillion people turn up it just becomes unplayable. I’ve always wanted to get into WvW for instance, but It’s either roaming, in which I may as well just do SPvP instead. Or zerging, in which I stand in a huge crowd watching my abilities not go off for seconds at a time. Not a fun experiences on any level.

So I heard about the recent feature patch, figured it was time to dust off Guild Wars 2 and give it another whirl. I have tried over the last few days and once again I just don’t seem to be able to get into this game; here are some of my thoughts.

I decided to start from scratch since it’s been so long and so much has changed that I may as well learn it over again… now here is my honest take on this games levelling. The amount of character depth and progression in this game does not, in anyway, shape or form require 80 levels. Half of that, at 40, would be a stretch.

You learn weapon skills nearly instantly. There aren’t that many weapons to pick from. There is no depth what so ever in the weapon/skill system in this game, no room for customization beyond equipping one of the few other weapon types. There is perhaps at most 20 levels worth of getting to grips with weapon types. It’s just not an interesting system and any improved customization here would be a huge improvement to this game.

This new lvl30+ trait business is just a complete mystery to me. I can’t even begin to comprehend why you think levelling progression, which up until level 30 is basically swapping a couple of bits of gear for 1-2 extra stat points here and there and unlocking weapon skills, justifies this delay in furthering your character in a more meaningful fashion… this is beyond awful. You have 14 traits? then you don’t need 80 levels and the horrifically long arbitrary gating of attaining those traits. Between 14 traits and a the un-interesting weapon system you probably have in the region of 20-30 levels worth of character progression on the way up. Everything else is filler at best. Your filler to progression ratio is absurd.

The mega-server system is a double-edged sword. Now on the one hand, yay, busy zones and lot’s of events and things happening. But it highlights just how poor parts of this game really are and magnifies them in quite a depressing way. First of all, all events in this game, are zerg fests. Everything just get’s nuked down by overwhelming numbers of players, to which any one player is utterly insignificant in every way imaginable. I do think not having a trinity isn’t necessarily bad, but right now Guild Wars 2 is not even beginning to offer the alternative to the trinity in terms of content, nothing is particularly challenging, none of it scales with the numbers of players around and content should still make the individual feel like there is a role for them to play.

Then onto the flow of events themselves… there are a couple of zones in this game that offer zone wide events which lend themselves nicely to megaserver (zerging aside)… however in the vast majority of zones you have small, very local chains of a couple of events which leads to the player numbers of mega-servers essentially being in a constant state of feeling like a whole bunch of random crap going on without rhyme nor reason. Perhaps that could be solved with increasing the challenge and scaling of the content in those, but I’d prefer all zones to be encapsulated in huge event chains that you can really get into whilst there.

Some other things have bothered me since launch that are still present in the game so I’ll just list them:

o Why are nameplates STILL not scaling with distance? why is some one stood 10 metres away’s nameplate the exact same size as someone stood 100 metres away? as soon as you have a lot of players on screen it just becomes a horrific cluttered mess.

o Whilst you’re at that make critters and neutrals a separate class of nameplate that can be filtered as turning on all enemies and seeing all neutrals or turning on all friendlies and seeing nameplates for rabbits and cats isn’t great with the clutter issue.

o Conditions… been a mess since day one. The bleed limit? various other stacking issues? the relative power? the PvP situation with them? is it even on the radar to redesign these things? they need it.

o Pretty much any stats that aren’t full zerk; buff them.

So, I hope this wasn’t too much of a rant. Like I stated in my last thread, this is a really great game that I really, really want to get into. I will keep tabs on the updates and give this another try for sure when I see some significant changes, I hope the next time I will be met with something that keeps me playing however.

Thanks all.

This could easily just be a settings issue.

I’m not talking about low FPS, I’m talking about when the server has a seizure and cast times go through the roof or abilities don’t work at all. It happens all too often in big PvE events or pretty much any peak time of WvW. Just kind of ruins it all for me

I really really want to play this game, It’s a beautiful game with so much awesome stuff in it…

Yet still from when I played back on release whenever I get involved in a nice big boss event, absolutely tonnes of skill lag, lag in general as the servers just clearly can’t handle it. So whatever, I’ll go do some WvW I want to get into that, only absolutely tonnes of skill lag and lag in general as the servers just clearly can’t handle it.

So I’m going to take another few months before coming back, but I do hope the laggy events and WvW is fixed one day so I can properly enjoy this game as I really would love to devote more time to it but as of release and right now it’s just unplayable

I hope it’s something the developers on track to fixing so next time I return everything runs smooth as silk!

Until next time <3

Lot’s of people have been talking about how pets shouldn’t have name tags or how you should be able to turn off other players titles / guild tags. I think this should be in the game also, but it’s not even going to make a dent in the level of clutter and it’s real cause.

How other MMOs deal with this is pretty simple. You scale the size of the text based upon the distance. Right now it doesn’t matter if a player is 10m or 100m away from you, the name tag above their heads is the same size.

By simply having the name tags get smaller and smaller the further away people are to the point when you see that enemy blob running by the distance you can just about make out little red pixels above their heads, then straight away a gigantic amount of that clutter has been dealt with.

Make it so!

A new problem. Player tag clutter.

Xonal.5426

This isn’t new, the clutter in WvW even with culling was messy.

One big BIG thing they should be doing is scaling the tag based upon distance. Right now it doesn’t matter if a player is 10m or 100m away the text is the same size… scaling the text size down based upon range would get rid of so much of that clutter straight away, as well as giving you the immediate visual information in team fights of the ranges of what is around you.

Secondly. This game shows the tags of pets/neutrals. Got to go.

Then a variety of customization would be nice for disabling titles/guildnames etc.

The real problem here is invisible enemies. Give their algorithms time to match servers properly.

HabibLoew, that optimization just flat out doesn’t work right now. I’m half sure it introduces a memory leak to as if you move away from large battles to quiet areas you’re still getting very crappy FPS until you reset the renderer by porting to waypoint or completing a vista or something.

But seriously, that has to get a lot smarter or be removed and just have people accept that bad FPS is part of it, because having invisible zergs wiping your zerg before any of them load in is just flat out broken. If it can’t be fixed, consider halving the WvW players caps and doubling the amount of borderlands or something, because it really isn’t worth playing if there are invisible enemies ANYWHERE within viewing distance of you… enemy positions are vitally important intel, your game currently obfuscates enemy positions, most importantly, large groups of enemies.

Why night capping is fair and why you shouldn't complain about it.

No, I’m saying that a 166v166v166 fight is worth more than a 100v40v20 fight, which is the sort of lopsided nonsense that decides the outcome in any match up, night after night after night.

Yes I see the ‘my time is peak time’ thing often. I also see the ‘they shouldn’t be allowed to play at all’. It’s all tiresome. I also think that your anger at their rudeness should be turned on Anet. It’s Anet’s bad game design which has spurred their naivety onto having a go at you.

This was meant to be a new MMO with fresh new ideas to turn the current MMO mindset on it’s head. Yet when it came to WvW they implemented the same tired old system that didn’t work in L2/DaoC/WAR.

That Anet have failed to create a workable solution has probably signed the death warrant of WvW. Like L2/DaoC/WAR it will be resigned to a handful of hardcore people that for whatever reason can’t get enough of that game whilst the majority either directly or indirectly aware of the specific flaws, sensing them all the same will move on to find something else to do, for quite a few I imagine would entail a different game. It’s a shame, but I already feel that icy grip of ’I’ll try it again in 6 months’ falling over the game.

So how do you explain NA servers which have a completely Full Queue until about 6am Eastern time, and then it normally only drops in borderlands.

So would 10am-6am the following day be considered “prime time” by your standards of queue’s ebing full.

You would have to iterate that issue more clearly as I’m an EU player. But my solution (which I think would have to be only part of an overall solution) would be scaling the point income based upon player population levels in the borderlands, so that a system of proportional representation is implemented. Then it doesn’t matter what times your server is/isn’t busy, it merely matters how many are active.

Selfish Self Centered

in WvW

Xonal.5426

Actually imo the issue has nothing to do with the design, its a persistant war like any other. however player perception is that your server gains some outstanding reward for moving up and down the rank latter when it doesnt. The point is to have fun and if you restrict night time play for any reason you are screwing with another players enjoyment of the game.

That is a very hypocritical stand point on this.

You’re saying that peak time players (majority) should just play for the fun of it and ignore the points and who wins / loses and just play for the sake of playing.

Then in the same turn saying off peak players should be protected and that a keep cap of a few dozen players against a handful in the middle of the night should be worth every bit as much as a keep cap when it’s 100vs100 in peak time.

It doesn’t fly. One rule for all. A scaling of point income based upon population levels in the borderlands would create a proportionate representation of the player’s activity on a server. There is no restriction at play here, merely an acknowledgement in the core mechanics of the game that a handful at off peak hours shouldn’t decide the outcome for the hundreds during the peak hours.

As remember that is what is happening here, the small amount of players that make up the off peak are 100% deciding the out come. The peak time players fight over the scraps. You think that doesn’t screw with their enjoyment to know that they may as well not be bothering? or should they just shut up and pretend to have fun?

It really doesn’t. It tells the off peak time players that their efforts will be representative compared with the efforts of the peak time players.

It’s completely hypocritical to say the way it plays out now is fine, because you’re then telling the peak time players that their efforts are completely pointless as, with how it currently works in the current games design, the off peak players completely decide the outcome.

You really shouldn’t take it as an attack on people playing on server from the opposite side of the globe. If people have voiced specifically that people from a timezone one too many hours away shouldn’t be allowed to play, then they’re being silly.

What you should ask yourself is this: What should have the most impact on the outcome of WvW?

At the moment you have peak-time and offpeak-time players. This is based upon the servers time to, not to be confused with the offpeak-time players that very well may be in a timezone where they have just got home from work. No. This is the server time and if for example the server is based in the EU then the peak time will be based in and round the early afternoon – late evening of GMT/CET.

Peak time is when the vast majority of players are online. This is when all four borderlands are 100% capped and there are queues for each. This is when very little is achieved in WvW, that so many being online has supply camps swapping hands so frequently that it’s pointless to keep track, that keeps and towers seldom change hands and when they do they don’t for very long. This is where most of that server’s playerbase battle away for hours, to maybe get a 1k points difference if they’re lucky.

Then comes off peak time. Now the borderlands aren’t population capped, infact a few of the borderlands for a couple of servers will be flat out empty. However one server will have to have more online than the others, what may amount to just a couple of dozen extra players now creates a dominance that will most likely see them full cap all 4 borderlands in a couple of hours and maintain that cap for several hours more… now a awful lot is achieved and a 40k~ point difference is established.

The majority of the playerbase wake up, get home from work into that hopeless back and forth with little being achieved again, only now there is a 40k point difference that is completely and utterly impossible to close.

So do you think that is right? noting that to say no, doesn’t mean you aren’t welcome if you live too far away from the server. Merely everyone involved is victim of bad game design resulting in bad representation when it comes to the main factors that effect the outcome of WvW. You should be more annoyed at Anet for them putting you in the situation where naive players are blaming you for the mistakes Anet have made in the design.

Why night capping is fair and why you shouldn't complain about it.

So in your original scenario where ‘server b’ logs on to say ‘omg lets get it all back’. This is where it breaks down entirely. Here is why. When that one server full capped during the night and held all of the borderlands for hours, they amassed an almighty lead in points. When ‘server b’ (see: the peak time users) login and the pop caps return to full, they’re now back in the position where very little can be achieved and that epic point lead simply can not be closed.

Servers with balanced (day and night) crews will rise to the top of the rankings and end up consistently fighting each other. Servers with unbalanced crews will also end up fighting each other consistently. The ranking system will iron out the supposed unfairness, there is no need for ANet to implement arbitrary limitations on play.

What many people seem to ignore is that the top tier servers actively recruited guilds to balance their team. They put the effort in and are now reaping the rewards. There is nothing stopping other servers from doing the same.

Only this hasn’t happened. Come off peak hours there is always one server that has more, they dominate, they set an impossible lead come the following days peak time.. you either guarantee 100% population caps in all borderlands 24/7 (not possible) or you accept that some other measure needs to be in place to ensure that smaller groups operating without impunity in the early hours don’t decide the outcome for the vast majority who are unfortunate enough to be playing at peak time.

A mere point income rate adjustment based upon population levels would be a big step towards this. If the borderlands only get a 20% population come the early hours then it should only get a 20% point income until it fills up; it represents the playerbase so it’s fair. But note: this doesn’t address that even with that in place, for 2 out of 3 servers come morning they will face an initial uphill struggle against the one that full capped/upgraded and littered siege equipment everywhere.

Mandar are you that stupid? Vizunah Squares night time capper squad get replaced by a daytime zerg, their borderlands aren’t empty of players during the following day.

It is then however, EU server peak time where all borderlands for all 3 servers fill up… the 40k+ point lead they amassed during the night can NOT be closed, it’s all very even and the people who play during the peak time are fighting for meaningless scraps with barely a hope of scratching that 40k point lead.

Then comes the night, most of FS and Deso go to bed and VS get their 40k lead again.

It’s nothing to do with Vizunah Square, it’s nothing to do with Far Shiverpeaks or Desolation, it’s nothing to do with people who play on the opposite side of the globe to the server… it’s just terrible game design through and through. Bad game design is what is at fault here and people should be directing anger to Anet, not some French players.

Azure Prower, I don’t know if you’re trolling now or you’re just displaying an utterly incredible level of ignorance here…

A server has a peak time, it’s got nothing to do with where you live or where the person lives on the opposite side of the world. It’s the server time. The vast majority of that servers playerbase will reside within timezones very close to this so that server peak time is very applicable to them.

This means that 100% pop caps in each borderland for each server will occur come that server’s peak time. Due to this, very little is achieved during peak hours in WvW, a keep or two changes back and forth, a few supply camps here and there.

Now comes the night and early morning, that vast majority that makes up the servers playerbase are now tucked up in bed… the few are left to WvW. Whether that be someone in server’s timezone or there abouts pulling an all nighter or someone on the opposite side of the globe logging on because they just got home from work is immaterial.

However you’re now in a situation where population matters greatly and that most likely one server of the three will be fielding a much greater population than the others. Now an awful lot is achieved very quickly. No longer just a keep or two changing hands, entire borderlands start getting capped and locked down.

There is no cycle, there is merely WvW being a representation of whom has the largest night time force, as that is what has the most impact on the outcome. Those who play at the busiest times in the peak hours are merely fighting for meaningless scraps.

Why someone with other timezone/lifestyle than you must suffer/see their effort degraded for your own pleasure…?

Such a garbage argument against this. Firstly to put that kitten to bed, you’re saying that a server’s peak time playerbase, which makes up the vast majority of the server, should suffer because a handful of people want to play on servers on the opposite side of the Earth to them… such nonsense.

Secondly, a simple fix of scaling the points based upon population levels in the borderlands would be fair on both… if you play at peak time and all borderlands are 100% populated then you get 100% point income. If at 5am server time the server is left for those largely in different timezones but only has a 20% population, then you should get 20% point income, simples.

Note: that still wouldn’t fix the fact that people logging in to fill up the borderlands the next day would face the uphill struggle of fully upgraded keeps littered with dozens of siege weapons BUT it would stop the impossible point leads being generated.

It is really, really simple: Right now this game has it completely backwards when it comes to who impacts the outcome the most.

The people who play at peak time when all borderlands are full fight for the scraps at the table – they fights for endless hours and very little is achieved, a few keeps change hands here and there and nothing gets the time or supplies to be upgraded.

The people who play at offpeak time when the borderlands are largely empty and usually one server fields a much larger force than the other two are enjoying the main course. They get a hell of a lot achieved in a very short period of time and have the largest impact on the outcome of WvW.

If you seriously think that is a completely fine way for the game to be then GL to you and all those who bother to keep playing with you, as the numbers will dwindle very quickly and most people will simply move on to playing other games and Guild Wars 2 will become ‘that’ MMO that the best thing someone can come up with to say about it is “yeah… maybe I’ll try it out again 6-12 months from now”

Night Capping is still a thing

in WvW

Posted by: Xonal.5426

Xonal.5426

It’s a simple fix. Have the points income scale based upon population levels in the borderlands… at peak times 100% participation = 100% income, if in the early hours you’re looking 20-30% then only give 20-30% point income.

People seem to start complaining that they live on the opposite side of the Earth to the server they play on. But really what you’re looking at here is this:

- During a server’s peak time when all borderlands are completely filled, you essentially have a situation where very large groups of people achieve very very little in a long period of time.

- During a server’s off-peak time when some borderlands for some servers are flat out empty and maybe one server has managed to field a pop-capped force that swaps between them a huge amount is achieved in a very short amount of time.

This clearly isn’t right, the people playing at peak hours when WvW is at it’s busiest for that server region are effectively fighting for the scraps of the table, whilst those people doing the super early morning shift are enjoying the main course and creating the biggest impact on the outcome.

It’s backwards, I’ve mentioned one method of controlling this via scaling point income – however several systems should be inplace to ensure that the peak time WvW actually matters.

Orbs are not overrated, you get 3 different injections of increase in HP pool from having them which can double squishies health pools. You have the actual flat % increase in health, you have the increase to stats (giving vitality) and then the fact you have the orbs means you’re probably dominating anyway so your WvW bonus HP buff will be creeping up to.

Orbs should have some other effect imo or perhaps an increased health buff but it only affects NPC guards/keep lords health and not players.

Melee works in WvW, it just tends to require reliance on gtfo-cooldowns and spotting windows of being able to jump into an enemy zerg.

As an example Thieves can get into a group of enemies fairly simply and without much fear of not being able to get out as being able to shadowstep in and have 8 seconds to return to your original location breaking any CC / removing conditions creates that window anytime it is off cooldown.

There is one situation however where the suicidal part comes true and that is vs organized groups of players (as opposed to your regular zerg) as the added coordination can cause problems for your ability to gtfo — also I did come up against a Russian guild that had 30-40 people pretty much spamming any AoE ability that had everywhere, going within 1200 range of their group, cooldowns or not was insta-death.

You don’t even need that TimeBomb, it’s more straight forward. You can begin by arbitrarily making laddered match ups between all the servers, then 1st place of match up B replaces 3rd place of match up A all the way down through the different match ups, obviously 2nd places remain in their bracket. So even if you were to completely jumble all the match ups right now, within 1-2 weeks of those 24 hour cycles the order of that list would come out the same.

Again though, cooldowns, soon as the Thief has none hes finished. His cooldowns are pretty much all based around him being able to GTFO as they’re squishy and clearly meant for a more ‘hit & run’ playstyle in WvW.

Alexious, the WvW system doesn’t work like a football league, you have servers in groups of 3 being laddered against each other… the servers at the bottom of that ladder getting 1st out of their group of 3, bottom end servers, isn’t worth as much as a servers at the top of that ladder getting 1st.

Going by his system servers towards the bottom can end up much higher on his ranking due to their 1sts and 2nds being worth as much, yet servers gettings 2nds and 3rds at the upper end of the ladder, but ending up lower on his ranking would stomp the crap out of them np.

Example:
Gandara he now has as 2nd and Desolation as 20th, Desolation have been matched against them several times now and have owned them sideways and would if we meet again.

The thing is, the servers ARE already ranked in order in the very match ups you’re playing against right now… so if his top 3 servers on his lists aren’t currently against each other then it’s obviously completely wrong.

So until his top 3 EU comes out as:
1. Vizunah Square
2. Far Shiverpeaks
3. Desolation

Then what hes doing is incorrect.

I play a lvl80 Thief in WvW. You’re overstating the length and amount of times he can stealth, it’s based on initiative (depending on weapon setup) and cooldowns… if you play a thief yourself to a reasonable level so you get used to those cooldowns and the length of the stealths you will find that Thieves are extremely easy to predict and counter in WvW, most of the time it’s a matter of counting to 3.

Thieves are incredibly mobile / slippy, so they can appear in the middle of a group and cause a bit of a ruckus, or if someone is low quickly snipe them, but they most definitely have to gtfo with a cooldown fairly soon afterwards it, then won’t be able to again for a little while.

Also if a Thief is stupid enough to use Shadow Refuge (the big house icon stealth) in PvP… as a tip to all those people who don’t know about that, it lasts 10 seconds, but if he leaves the field he is immediately unstealthed and has a debuff preventing him from restealthing for a couple more seconds… even worse, if he doesn’t leave the field, he is still there and capable of taking damage, so just keep spamming attacks / aoe into the area and you will get the kill.

TimeBomb, your method for ranking those servers is fundamentally flawed. You can’t say 3 points for 1st place in a match up when those match ups range from very top end servers to very bottom end servers… coming 3rd in the absolute top match up should most likely give you more points than coming 1st in the absolute bottom match up. The value of the points can’t be equal across them.

Ready for the 1 week battles.

Why did you have to write that stuff on your screen? are you the guy from Memento or something?

Can we talk about invisible players in WvWvW?

Was in an awesome wipe today in a large organized group of 30-40 players as we were working on the doors of Greenlake where everyone randomly started dying. It wasn’t until there was about 30 of us dead on the floor and only 4-5 remaining that the enemy players killing us started to load in.

That they have gone to 1 week match-ups with this fundamental game breaker of an issue is crazy… what is worse is that this may not be lag or a bug, but rather intentional optimization on their part. So it may be a case of that or everyone gets 4-5fps :/

Um, that isn’t the ranking of the servers though – the only correct one there for Europe is Vizunah Square. Tallying the points between EVERY match up gives no correlation to how well any particular server will perform vs another… Far Shiverpeaks is 22nd there when they’re actually 2nd/3rd with Desolation (who is put as 7th).

I Love WvW, hate item repair:(

If they remove repair costs from WvW they should remove copper/silver rewards and loot drops…

Thundernlightning friend, the server who are complaining are, Far Shiverpeak and Desolation. Second best, and third respectively in Europe at this time. We cant move to the top because we are already there.

How does this change anything? You will stay second and third without improving your 24/7 coverage

Well we’re not going to because we’re primarily populated by EU residents… so let’s instead just say #2 is the new #1, shift every server up a position accordingly and pretend VS doesn’t exist?

Also, I would like to extand a hand to any desolation player here, lets stop fighting each other and kill some french, oui?

Not possible on Desolation – at least you guys can field large numbers of the same guild at 4am (like [GF]) we simple folk on Desolation merely follow the lvl10 leading the zerg, if he takes a right into Farshiver territory then that is the way we go

I dread to think about the 100 or so badges of honor I’ve not looted so far as well as all the other stuff…

Why it can’t just be put straight into bags or mailed if bags are full is beyond me

WVW damaged armor every 2 deaths.

I’d prefer not at all.

Then you shouldn’t earn any copper/silver from WvW either. Including drops for you to sell…

I wish there was an option to set all friendly to your world colour as well – as seeing someone in bright blue or red armour when you’re fight for green always makes me double-take.

I’m from Desolation – it just seems to me that so far Vizunah Square are the only server taking WvW remotely seriously — if they’re willing to make sure they’re pop capping borderlands at 4am and splooging siege equipment everywhere at 5am then gg to them, it’s working.

Right now I think the biggest problem is the reset time, it resets at midnight so us lazy Desolation WvWers go to bed leaving very few in our borderlands (all are pretty much instant join from reset onwards..) this lets VS get an unclosable lead in points come the following afternoon when borderlands start to pop cap for us (and what is usually Farshiver Peaks)

WvW Que Priority For Level

Fully agree, lowbies need to be lower priority… I have a fully exotic lvl80 thief and I can tell when I’m fighting lowbies (besides looks) from the fact they just explode if I touch them. You seriously can’t leave populations and success down the luck of whether or not its fifty lvl80s vs fifty lvl10s….

Low levels need to seriously shut the hell up about this – you’re a complete detriment to any team and lvl80s with gear laugh when they cause you to instantly melt before their eyes. The more of you there are the more likely the server is to lose, simple as that.

LMAO. Tactics ARE what wins WvW. Not gear, not level. Tactics are what win WvW. Well what if I went from 1 to 23 all in WvW? Do I still not have enough experience because I am not 80? Sure you can 1 shot 2-3 players but 2-3 players are minescual in comparison to the rest of the WvW.

Sure 2-3 aren’t significant, but if one zerg is made primarily of lvl80s and the other of an assortment of lvl10-70s… the 80s are going to outright wipe them out without even trying, it wouldn’t even be funny to see how little of a fight the lowbies would put up.

Gear makes a huge difference in WvW – it isn’t sPvP. There is no gear equality except amongst lvl80s in full exotic gear.

This is one thing about WvW so far I’ve found just utterly game breaking… you see that one guy and think ‘omfg mine!’ and when you get close to him 20 more of his team appear out of nowhere and the bad times begin

Arenanet HAVE to fix this issue, it’s completely pointless to have PvP in such a state that entire zergs are effectively stealthed as they move around. How are you even meant to judge whether it’s time to push or hunker down when you have no idea how many enemy players are actually there, might be the 5-6 guys you see, might be 50-60 more stood with them

WvW FPS 'reset' - Possible large source of optimization

Ive had a small amount of times where Ive noticed the framerate sticks for at least a while after a large fight. Ive never had to reload tho

I don’t mean reload as in restarting the game or relogging – I mean as in whatever reset occurs within the games renderer when it loads you to a waypoint or a vista.

WvW FPS 'reset' - Possible large source of optimization

I know performance in WvW leaves a lot to be desired in general, but this thread isn’t about the general and to be expected FPS dip you take during huge fights. However, I have seen several times whilst playing WvW that there appears to be some cause of FPS loss in fights that causes your FPS to not recover until you ‘reload’.

Now I should predicate here by saying I have a good PC etc and I usually get 60fps minimum in any of the regular zones and 80fps or higher in general with all settings high except I use native rendering not supersampling. But during very large zerg v zerg encounters in WvW that FPS dips to about 20-30fps and things obviously begin to feel very sluggish.

This issue however is not relating to per-say to that expected large dip in FPS, but that the FPS doesn’t seem to recover afterwards… plenty of times, post zerg v zerg, I will break away with smaller groups or solo to hit a supply camp or a veteran guard or something but from then on my FPS is just goosed.

Then a couple of weeks ago I first noticed this occur:
I was down to my usual 20-30 FPS after a large zerg v zerg fight but now there was maybe 5-10 of us attacking the ogre camp, nobody else around… I then realised I hadn’t picked up the Vista yet so went over to get it. As soon as the cutscene ended BAM! 80fps+ again with the same 5-10 people doing the same ogres…

I have noticed this happen since from just dying, reloading back to the waypoint and FPS is nice and high again. Now otherwise I, and I imagine anyone else, would have just put that down to me being now in the bottom corner of the map with few people around so of course the FPS should be higher — but after having seen the vista do the exact same thing ‘in the field’ I’m now thinking that there must be some kind of memory leak or otherwise large performance drain caused during large fights that doesn’t remedy itself until a ‘reload’ occurs.

I don’t know if others have noticed this to, perhaps the next time you notice yourself with very sluggish and low fps after a large zerg fight you could go to a vista point and see if that resets for you to… But I would hope that at the very least some clean up could happen when I move away that restores my FPS or even better some cause for the low FPS in the first place could be resolved!

Thanks.
