I’ve been doing a healthy amount of events while I quest, and if I hadn’t spent most of it already, i’d say I would have about 15k Karma at level 30. There’s really no reason for hearts to give you more, you really get plenty just from the events you run into.

I encountered a couple bugs myself that were solved by leaving the instance, and re-entering, making sure to follow the instructions of the quest exactly. If that doesn’t work, hope for a fix.

The Exploit Catch 22

Some things are pretty common sense. The last exploit that got a lot of people banned was obvious. They were making more money than was intended to be made out of materials you weren’t suppose to be making a profit on.

If all else fails, ask within your guild or your group of friends. If they can’t answer, just don’t do it if you’re worried.

Slow Down in Combat

If you’re in the middle of a battle, taking damage, etc, I understand the slow down, but it happens even when you’re just running past a mob that you happen to agro, and nothing hits you. It’s kind of annoying.

Eh no? I’ve been running happily past mobs, all you’ve got to do is evade their attacks. If you got slowed “something” hit you. If you didn’t notice that, it was either not clear enough or maybe there’s some kind of bug somewhere somehow.

I dont think anyone want to fight when you are alone and 30 invader at your back. In Pve I dont care If I slow down, because there are only mobs. However in WvW…

Yep, so you’ve got to watch out not getting into their range in the first place, or just make sure you’re not alone. It only makes sense to me that if they’re given the opportunity to engage on you, you shouldn’t be able to run off easily.

Eh yes. Maybe it’s a bug, but it happens. Thanks though.

80 in 2 weeks? What kind of casual are you talking about? I started during the 3 day headstart and i’m only at 35 at this point, and I probably play an averaged-out 4 hours a day. However, this is completely beside the point…

“You get sick xp for…”, these points are moot because the definition of “sick” is opinion. I would love to forget about levels and just play the game, but that is the exact issue here. After doing everything I described in the initial post, I wasn’t high enough level to quest in the next map. Kind of hard to just enjoy the game when mobs are killing me in 1 hit huh?

The flow of the game/story is ruined when I am FORCED to Craft or PvP in order to gain enough levels to quest in the next area. I know i’m not the only one with this concern, too.

XP Balance and Map Discovery

I currently have 2 gripes about the game. One is a potential bug and the other is just feedback.

1. The rate at which a particular map awards XP is completely off balance. When I first started playing (as a human warrior) I did a 100% completion sweep of Divinity’s Reach, Queensdale, and Kessex Hills, while also finishing every class quest in those 3 areas and reaching 75 in my crafting, which netted roughly 2 levels of XP alone. I also participated in every event I stumbled upon, maybe 20 or so over the life of each map. I was only level 20 at the end of all of that, and the Gendarran Fields, the area the game meant me to go to next, is level 25. I was then forced to 100% the Brisban Wildlands until I reached level 25 and could move on with the story safely.

2. I love the art style of the game, and especially the map. However, in its current state, it’s hard to tell which parts of the map are undiscovered, especially if it’s a small part on the sides of the map, and then it’s usually in a mountain.

That’s not what turn based combat is. But that’s beside your question, you can actively dodge, but you do need to keep in mind this is an online game. That means there’s latency involved. That means that what you see on your screen is not exactly what’s taking place on the server. Even with a low latency (ping) you can sometimes notice the difference if you pay attention to this very carefully. Suffice to say, with higher latencies the issue can become much more noticeable.

I understand it’s not the traditional term, but there really isn’t a word for the kind of combat in Wow. It’s a hybrid between turn based and real time.

1. Green colored gear is better than Blue colored gear. Dang you Wow!

2. When you complete a heart, the NPC you helped turns into a karma vendor and sells awesome green and blue gear.

Real Time Combat: Attacks can be actively dodged and damage only calculates if the enemy is within your range of attack. Think Tera.

Turn Based Combat: You only attack if you’re within range of the enemy/spell. A hidden role takes place when you attack taking into account enemy stats such as block and dodge chance. Think World of Warcraft.

Which does this game have? Upon first inspection, combat flows like Tera. You can attack even when no enemies are present, and if the enemy is too far away, your attack will show a “miss” notice. But as i’ve played more and more, i’ve noticed that I still take damage from melee attacks even if I run behind the enemy, or out of their range of attack.

If you’re dying a lot in close range then you’re doing it wrong. I’m simply telling you that long range might be better suited for someone who dies a lot in close range. It’s common sense really. Didn’t mean to upset you.

Yes. As a DPS warrior, you should be dying about as much as any other DPS class. We shouldn’t be using any defensive skills, because that would hinder our DPS. Now, i’m not saying you should be dying easy to trash mods, quite the contrary. But event bosses/champions are meant to be tanked, and the DPS warrior is not a tank.

I haven’t thoroughly played an Elementalist, but from the sounds of it their long range does have sub-par DPS. And that’s fine, I sympathize. But the solution isn’t to make them close range beasts. If you’re really having such a tough time playing the class, try another class until they get fixed. They’re a casting class, and i’d much rather see their spells get buffed, not their armor.

This doesn’t really answer the question, but I’m playing a level 35 2h crit warrior now, and it’s awesome. My unbuffed crit is 93%, and the second skill on the bar (can’t remember the name, the one where you strike 6 or so times in succession) hits for over 2k each time, and the final hit is around 4k.

I haven’t played in PvP yet, but I almost never die in PvE unless i’m being targeted by a champion boss, and I can take down mobs of foes easy.

Story quest issues.

Even as a Warrior I found myself dying often in the class quests because they bombard you with mobs. The only thing to do is make sure you’re gear is up to snuff and don’t attempt it until you’re a few levels higher than recommended.

If short range is more fun for you, be a warrior. You can’t be a magic class and expect to tank like a guardian. The lighter your armor is, the further away you have to be/the more stealth skills you’re given. Reducing damage for people who choose to be melee defeats the purpose of having different kinds of armor.

I’m only level 5 with my Guardian and I solo’d a level 7 group event. Just keep laying down those heals and defense buffs and anything that doesn’t kill you one hit will be like a sting. I’m gonna turn him into a pure main tank, so he’ll have gear with vitality and toughness. My only concern is the ambiguous way threat works, and how bosses just kind of attack whoever.

I can’t say for sure which POI you’re referring to in Lions Arch, but I can say I 100%’d it just fine.
