The way GW2 was set up, people bought into the game because they were led to believe that they could reasonably do everything for free, but they find out after the fact (and after their $60) that the truth is they can’t. Had they known the truth beforehand, would they have bought into the game and spent the time to get to 80? Maybe some would have, but many others wouldn’t, and those are the people who are now upset.

I’m the first to admit that I didn’t follow GW2 until after launch. You seem to be suggesting that (a) Anet came out and said that everyone would be able to do everything in-game without spending any extra cash and (b) people do in fact need to spend cash to get something.

Again, perhaps it’s just me but when I signed up for an MMO that doesn’t have a subscription payment, I assumed it was because they were monetizing their business through paid in-game features. Whether it was extra professions, races, gear, maps, costumes, or whatever… they were going to offer something that was desirable enough that at least some people would continue to fund their operation.

When I discovered that literally everything in the game is accessible and achievable without paying cash, I was frankly surprised. Personally, I think it’s great that Anet is willing to let the hard core gamers — the ones who spend the most time online and use the most real-world resources — “earn” everything they need in game to get the stuff that casual guys like me instead pay cash for. Me, I bought $50 worth of gems as soon as I signed up…

Thanks for Mac version - but will it work?

FWIW, I’ve been running it on a new MBP (Retina) 15" and it’s been close to flawless. With most of the graphics turned up nicely and running at 1440×900 I frequently get 35-40fps or so even in busy areas.

Stop trying to force us to covert gems to gold. Make the cash shop attractive in another way.

That’s simple: stop allowing people to buy gems for gold. Then if you want something that requires gems, you must pay cash. Would that make folks happier? I sincerely doubt it.

Economics is complicated. Arena is in the tough spot of trying to balance two economies (the in-game economy and their need to generate real-world revenue). You pay nothing to play the game online once you bought it, but it costs AN plenty to keep the doors open.

Somewhere I found a temporary solution – try to open “Options” window with TP window still open, and change your game language – for example English -> French, wait for TP to reload, and back to your original language. This method works for me almost every time, so I don’t have to restart GW2.

Thanks, that helped immensely! It’s still annoying that you need to go through all that just to use the TP, but it’s better than running around with inventory maxed out and unable to sell!

Kicked out, can't log back in.

I’d simply like to add my name to the list of people annoyed about the Twitter thing.

ArenaNet, you created, maintain, and moderate this forum as a communication hub for players and developers to discuss issues related to the game. This is where you should be communicating with players about … issues related to the game.

Following the Twitter feed isn’t nearly as simple as dropping into the announcement section of the forum and reading what you have to say about the latest issue.

I had been playing for about 15 minutes last night when the servers went down. There was no announcement that I saw in game (Tarnished Coast server). The system was down for hours and I don’t have a Twitter account. Also fwiw, I could not log into the forum during that time though I could still access & read as a guest.

I’m also having a consistent issue with the TP. I can access the gem store and I can access the pickup area, but cannot access the buy or sell parts (you know, the trading post parts of the trading post). Whenever I try to buy or sell I get the gem store screen and a yellow circle animation in the center of the screen. The circle runs for a minute or two and then disappears.

This happens with all my toons.
It happens regardless of whether I’m accessing the store remotely or at a trading post point on the map.

It just started happening today.

I submitted a support request and received an automated response to download a Windows .exe file… even though part of my support request specifically said I was running on a Mac.
