I’m starting this line up mostly to show that the strongest 1v1 build by far lies with P/D condition builds. There are many variations on it, but the outlasting capability of this build is just over the top, and the ability to not only take on multiple opponents by abusing stealth repetitiously, and healing through so many sources, makes me wonder why this build is essentially not being abused to all hell.
If you’re currently running a typical dagger spec and feeling squishy, tired of feeling weak once haste is down, or just having trouble understanding that there are indeed builds out there that make thief superior to just about every class in a 1v1…I encourage you to check out my first video here of when I first specced P/D and was still getting used to the mechanics and playstyle…#2 is coming soon and it’s going to have all sorts of goodness
Notes :
-I’m using DS instead of TG so that people don’t think I’m being “cheap” all the time.
-I am not claiming this to be professional tier play, just showing you that even with my first few hours of swapping this spec and a little bit of familiarization with the style yielded amazing results.
-All done in hot-join.
Enjoy

There’s a flaw in this plan, which is glaringly obvious when you consider it:
It doesn’t keep every dungeon populated. One dungeon would have the highest token/time ratio, meaning that everyone would farm one type of dungeon over every other type. That means that when you want to organize a party for Sorrow’s Embrace, nobody will be interested because they will be busy farming materials from another dungeon path.
I’ve posted a suggestion in a different forum if you’re willing to take a look.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Dungeon-Token-Fix-Daily-Achievement/230989
People are doing that right now anyway (or they were especially with the CoF speed runs). You can’t really prevent that because even without my suggestion there are some who will just find the quickest way to exotics that they can, regardless of visual aesthetic or stats.
I find it a bit Rudimentary that although it makes sense you must run a certain dungeon to get the gear assigned to said dungeon, that in the end this means to get a piece of gear from one dungeon you must run that specific dungeon way too many times repetitively.
I think I have an easy recommendation here…
Make the tokens neutral and not dungeon specific, first of all. That way they can be used as currency for all of the gear from the dungeon vendors. Make the current dungeon specific tokens an actual separate type of token, that you must complete and kill the final boss to be dealt out 1. Just one.
Make the pieces cost however much they already cost but in the neutral currency of tokens, but add to that price a couple of (maybe different prices depending on which piece it is) “end boss tokens”. So it would be like this…
Arah Gloves = 300 Dungeon Tokens and 3 “Zhaitan” tokens
Arah Leggings = 350 Dungeon Tokens and 4 “Zhaitan” tokens
With this system, people would not be so incredibly limited in the dungeons they are running to acquire a certain specific set of gear because in order to rack up the necessary dungeon tokens they can run any dungeon they want with the dungeon tokens being a neutral currency, but if they want a certain set visually, they need to run that specific dungeon at least a handful of times to get the “end boss” tokens to purchase that dungeons specific armour.
Tell me what you think.
I’m enjoying GW2 but I will admit that the “Hey no game is perfect at launch, give them time!” song and dance is old.
We really don’t need random forum goer after random forum goer to remind us that fixing things takes time. I’m sure that goes without saying.
Strongly disagree. I’ll tell you why.
We live now in an age where the tools are widely available to make informed purchases or decisions on some things. We have the internet, we have smart phones…there is just no reason any logical or sensible human being shouldn’t have any knowledge or idea of what they are spending their hard earned money on.
If you bought something and were displeased even though there were plenty of means to find that it wasn’t going to be your cup of tea after the fact…it is most certainly your bad.
Desperately want to recustomize my character as well. Wondering why the post didn’t roll out with this item baseline
So I have met two different groups of people.
A. One that calls joining random games “sPVP”. Playing tournaments “tPVP”.
B. The other (me included) calls tournaments “tPVP” and joining random games “Hot-Join”.
Now this isn’t a major deal in the slightest, but people from group A got on my case for not calling it sPVP when I asked if someone wanted to hot-join.
How does this not make sense to group A? “sPVP” stands for structured pvp. All of the pvp within Heart of the Mists is structured pvp. Therefore joining randoms & doing tournaments are both technically a form of sPVP. That’s why we have back-seated the term “sPVP” in favor of “hot-join”. So hot-join refers to joining randoms, and doing tournaments is doing tPVP, and being in the Heart of the Mists doing anything at all is doing sPVP.
That’s my random nerd rant for today.
What class were you playing?
What’s your spec? This is info that would help the devs who view these post better assess the situation. Honestly it does help to supply more info.
That’s not necessary, I was just curious if this was intended. I don’t want anyone nerfed, I am sure there is a way to counter such players.
Wtf lmao of course it’s necessary it gives everyone context and basis for how you died so quickly, especially your build lol
It actually does matter, because it completely defeats the purpose of you even mentioning or telling us your little story if everybody thinks you’re full of kitten.
Which you are.
Lol…I love the people that say “I rolled a thief outta nowhere and specced whatever the heck and didn’t know anything about it and I destroyed people!”.
You’re lying, you did not destroy people. You probably hobbled around putting people in downstate spamming heartseeker in big un-organized group fights, likely dying shortly after in half a second.
You probably didn’t win a 1v1 against a player without down syndrome to save your life.
i find after winning 1v1’s and 2v2’s a gg or gf is actually more of a trigger for trash talking from those said victims than saying anything rude.
That’s because “gg” automatically assumed to be sarcastic, and understandably so because of the general nature of the community (something this topic is about in the first place). “gg” has historically been used in a snarky context in gaming. You should know that.
“gf” will tend to be much better received, but even then, there’s no reason to say it anyway. It should just be assumed everyone is being a good sport about things unless they open their mouth about it.
I just wanted to post a short PSA for all those PvP heads out there…
Don’t be a jerk when you dunk people. Yes, you might have come back from a disadvantage to still beat them, and yes, you might feel inclined to relish in their embarrassment or tease them for not being as good as you while you’re slamming a flag down in to their chest (as if that weren’t punishment enough), but I’m getting tired of seeing people yap rudely at people they are finishing as if anything needed to be said. Just play the game.
You finish them. They rez, you can go kill them again. No need to be a jerk. Has this happened even to me on occasion? Sure. Everyone gets killed, and sometimes even in an embarrassing way. Nobody who has played PvP in this game has never died, so stop making a big deal out of it and stirring kitten by being a jerk. Karma will come around and those you’ve been rude to will be jiving at you on the ground eventually, and you’ll feel stupid for having acted so tough.

@Javious
I’m referring to any guardian. The only difference I notice based on what build they are is how much longer or shorter it takes to downstate them. I do not have problems with guardians. The guardian above even states that his biggest woes come from condition thieves (he described exactly how the condition thief generally plays in 1v1).
I believe it’s perfectly plausible that the inane amount of qq is coming from nothing but players that need to L2P. Look at the World of Warcraft forums, it’s not difficult to believe the GW2 forum is full of the same trash from its respective game.
Guardians are not OP or “impossible” to kill if you’re a thief. This is not contemplative or in the air, the PEBKAC. Roll the right build and never worry about Guardians again, or keep trying to PW spam them to death and get owned.
Hate to be “that guy” in here, but this is a L2P issue. Any class played by a decent player can be a neat challenge to defeat but Guardians are not “impossible” to kill by any measure if you play thief. They sure might be for the crit damage HS and PW builds but try practicing and getting good with a venom build…I melt Guardians and Warriors without issues. This is not a class counter, it’s the lot of you refusing to learn other builds that work better.
Of course this is where you all tell me I must be killing baddie Guardians all day where as you face top elite properly played ones consistently, right?
Only class annoys me to fight is mesmers. Keyword : annoying.
(edited by Zipzo.6753)
no thx… would you like to get these = “you only did xxx amount of damage and you play class xxx you are kitten” or “L0L you play support guardian and you healing is so low wtf are you doing???”
I never understand this argument.
Why would somebody pointing out that you may be doing badly and could be doing a lot better be a bad thing?
Even if it’s done in a rude way…I’d rather know if I’m sucking than going on being ignorant of my shortcomings because I want to live in rainbow sunshine land where nobody says anything mean.
@HCP
Overheating was ruled out the moment the issue wasn’t actually a complete shutdown. It’s a reset. Must this be repeated?
Also…@deltaconnected
I understand you may be trying to be helpful but speaking nor describing a solution in a way that only those experienced with…whatever the hell it was you just said isn’t helpful to those of us who simply just want to understand why GW2 has this random issue on the G73SW and are not amply educated in the most of the terms and words you used to fill out that post.
This is NOT a shutdown. It is a hard reset. Laptops submitted to overheating will shutdown, not hard reset.
The computer just reboots.
99.44% of the time this is the PSU failing to meet the load.
Clearly there is an issue with compatibility here because pretty much any unlucky soul who happens to own this specific laptop has this issue.
Actually, this is lamp-lighting the laptop for not being able to perform under heavy load. GW2 is written against the OS, not specific hardware.
The reason for my time out is that the hard resets have (likely) caused my current problem where windows crashes during start up. Start up repair – not fun to run!
Windows isn’t crashing during startup; if you read the screen, it is telling you that it did not shut down properly and is giving you options to recover if necessary.
BTW, “crash” means code failed to execute and typically provides an error code.
You and God.fissure are just not getting it. I know it’s really easy to just go “OVERLOAD YOUR PC CANT HANDLE IT”…but I don’t think you’re taking in to account that I can go days (doing very high amounts of activity in conjunction with GW2) and not experience this.
It is by all accounts…and incredibly random event. This would suggest something other than overheating/overload because the consistency is not there.

I have an ASUS G73SW like most people in this thread and experience this infrequently. To clarify for those reading…
This is NOT a shutdown. It is a hard reset. Laptops submitted to overheating will shutdown, not hard reset.
The computer just reboots.
Clearly there is an issue with compatibility here because pretty much any unlucky soul who happens to own this specific laptop has this issue. In the case that it might be over heating I’ve taken measures to test this like monitoring temps and lowering all settings in game and limiting FPS…it still happens. This is a major issue that must be addressed.
I’m sort of inclined to agree on the “fun” part", and I actually had a short conversation with a friend earlier on the matter.
Essentially, my point was that I understand the class, I don’t necessarily find it to be belligerently overpowered because I know how to beat them (occasionally, some mesmers are just god mode difficult – the good ones), but the real issue is that they really ruin the fun for anyone playing against them. It’s fun for the person playing the mesmer, which is good, but I’m willing to bet the % of players that actually enjoy fighting a mesmer inversely is much, much, much lower.
They are just legitimately not fun to actually fight, if I get in a game with too many mesmers I am inclined to just leave and join another room because it basically makes the match frustrating or annoying instead of fun. It has nothing to do with whether the class is OP or not…the class is just not fun to fight with because of having to deal with all the clones…
