With lich form you should probably include the group of 5 minions you can summon. They add a significant amount of damage to the equation.

I’m seeing a lot of necro hate in the posts on this thread, in the forum, and in the game as well.

That’s EXACTLY why I want to do this. If we can prove with video evidence that necros can speed run (Note I said speed run, as people seem to think this is the end all be all) just as well as warriors, then maybe some of the necro hate will stop.

Note that we will not be running the map once. We will probably take at least an hour or two to run it multiple times to optimize what builds/skills are most use for the speerdun, and then try to get our time as low as possible. The run will be taped and put on youtube.

I also have done runs on my warrior, (sub 7 minute runs or so). I plan to make a video that shows the necro run and the warrior run side by side for comparison. Especially during the bossfights, as that is the most important comparison in terms of raw dps.

Let’s see if we can prove the GW2 community wrong and show that necros are still awesome.

Well Lich form would only be used twice: Boss 1 and Boss 2. The cooldown would be irrelevant, as enough time passes in between the two.

Blood is power gives us 10 might, and honestly most of these groups don’t keep up a reliable 25 stacks of might, the bosses go down too fast. 4 warriors with 4 great justices is 12 stacks, with your signet of rage is about 15. Blood is power is an instant 10, only a 5 stack difference.

That damage is more than made up for by our builds. A greatsword warrior damage build does NOT have full trait points in the critical damage line. Ours would, it’s optimal for a berserker necro to go full down that tree. the extra 15-25% critical damage would more than make up for the difference in might stacks.

Hey guys. So I was thinking about the current 4 warrior/ 1 mesmer CoF run, and I was wondering: Can a 4 berserker necro team pull similar/better times?

Reasoning:
1. Berserker necros with enough life force generation can pull similar numbers to warrior damage. Nemesis’s bursting necro vid showed that life force blasts can put out damage comparable to 100 blades FROM RANGE, and under the effects of Time Warp could hypothetically surpass hundred blades.
2. We can keep up 25 vuln stacks easy as well.
3. Many of the tactics used to exploit maximum GS warrior damage could help us too. Example: On the first boss mesmer knocks the boss against the wall so warriors can get max damage from whirlwind attack. This would let us increase our damage from the Flesh Golem charge as well. (The damage from that thing against a mob on wall is pretty intense).
4. 4x Lich Form Time Warp. Yarg.
5. Necrmancers are naturally more survivable than warriors with our death shroud. This would make accidents (IE: One player getting downed) easier to avoid, and areas like the second fight (killing acolytes) easier to deal with without said accidents.

Anyways, this thread serves 2 purposes.
1. Thoughts and comments? Would this work? Can we improve it?
2. Who wants to test it with me? Im almost done with my full exotic bererker set for my necro, and would love to get a group together to try this out, do timed runs, and maybe post some youtube videos.

If we can pull comparable completion times as a 4 warrior/1 mesmer group, then we could REALLY shake up people’s perceptions of what the necromancer class is capable of.

To do this, we’d need to figure out the ideal build/weapon/skill set, and have all 4 necros run it. The ease of the CoF warrior comes from an agreed upon build and gear set.

So… let’s get to work.

Dungeon Minionmaster: Glass or Tank?

Hey guys.

I rolled Necromancer when the game came out hoping to be a minionmaster (Loved it in gw1), but found them to be lacking.

At this point I’ve found the game isn’t rigorous enough (aside from high fractals) to demand super levels of min/maxing, so I want to try to make minionmaster work.

The question I’ve been going after is: Should I gear myself glassy or tanky?

If I go straight P/T/V gear then I’ll probably never die, especially with the minions stealing health all the time.

If I roll Zerker/Knight mix I can do a lot more damage (Huge Life Blast Crits!) While maintaining the minion army.

Both have their merits, I was hoping to hear some feedback from anyone that might have tried either of these?

My problem with “staying out of the red circles” is that in most boss encounters the effect has already hit you by the time the circle even shows up.

As an example, in the colossus fractal agony hits you if you are ever in the red circle, there’s no windup. Whatever negative condition (poison, cripple, etc.) is already applied the moment the circle appears. There is no “moving out of it” to avoid it, it’s just moving out of it to avoid “more”.

Unless there’s something else I missed?

Hey guys,
So I’ve been having a real tough time with dodging in this game.
I’m a big fan of games with dodge mechanics, I play a lot of Monster Hunter and recently got into Secret World. One of the things I love there is how well choreographed the enemy attacks are. In monster hunter movements are relatively predictable and therefore easy to dodge once you learn. In Secret World strong attacks are given a circle on the ground that slowly expands until they “Hit”, so you know where to move.

In GW2 I just can’t figure out where to look. The big hits seem to come with little to no warning and I find myself in a downed state. Going with full toughness/vitality gear doesn’t seem to help either.

So, tl;dr : How do I dodge? What do I look for? When do I do it?

The level scaling system is very prohibitive. Research has been done. At level 80, if you are not at least in level 80 rares, your stats will be LOWER than someone who is level appropriate in greens.

So, in general, if you level up, your stats GO DOWN (not up) until you get better gear.

Personally, I would prefer the system as they described it early in development. MOST stats (items, etc.) would scale. SOME STATS (Trait stats specifically) would not. That way you still feel advancement without getting too strong.

Hey guys,
I just read the 2013 plans and had a question.

So back a few months ago Chris Whiteside did an AMA on reddit, and I asked this same question:
When are home instances (and by extension personal story) going to be brought up to the level they were advertised before the game’s release? Will they be expanded upon?

He responded and said that they plan to build on it moving forward, and we could expect great things in this department.

These two features (specifically home instance) were THE REASON I got this game, yet the 2013 plans make it sound like the focus of this game will be dungeons, loot, and PvP (Basically, abandoning the features I (personally) thought made this game unique in favor of making the game like every other MMO).

My question is… should I stop waiting? I do understand that “planning to work on” doesn’t mean “will work on”. I just want to know if I am waiting in vain for these features to never be expanded on since they don’t seem to be “popular”.

This has my full support, and should be at the top of any content priority list. At the moment I only have incentive to do content that will be profitable financially (as money is the only real form of progression) or dungeons that have armor with stats I want. With this I’ll have more incentive to do every type of content, just to get more skins.

I like this idea in a sense.
In guild wars 1 you could “stack” up to 3 dailies at a time. If you couldn’t do them on Wednesday, for example, you could pick up the daily quests for Wed-Friday and do them all on Friday.

Having a backlog for dailies might be a good idea.

If you played GW1 you should be USED to one time only events!

Hi…did you go to that GREAT party on 1st and roenoak? No? Duuuude, you missed a GREAT party! Aerosmith just showed up and rocked out because they were in the area. That will NEVER happen again man!

The game is like RL…events happen that you won’t experience, times change, days change, but it is nice. I totally missed out on the holloween even and the nice back item. So what? It’s NICE to be in a game where world changing events can happen with or without us. Seeing the world change is a GOOD thing.

In Guild Wars 1 the ends of events (like holidays) repeated multiple times to allow people to get there if it was an odd hour for them.

Seeing the world change IS a good thing, but since this is a game players don’t have to be relegated to watching the world change on youtube. The point of playing a game is to BE there, not to watch from the sidelines. This can be done because this is a game and NOT real life.

When you pitched this game, you gave us some great bullet point ideas.

Ideas like:
Play your own way, PvP or PvE, it’s all good.
Play when you want, how you want: any class can do any role.
Play with everyone around you: Don’t worry about groups, it’s all good.
No raiding! No need to log in at 7pm regularly to play the game…
Play with your friends at any level! Never feel LEFT OUT because you can’t play as often…

You pitched and released a fun, STRESS FREE game.

These one time events, some of which you pitch as having “special rewards” (See final part of this weekend) go right against this philosophy.

When you tell us to “log in at 2pm OR MISS IT FOREVER. SPECIAL REWARDS FOR THOSE WHO ATTEND” it creates a very different gaming environment.

It’s stressful.
It’s frustrating.
It’s unnecessary.

This is a GAME arenanet. It’s supposed to be fun. Why would you intentionally stress out and frustrate your players by introducing content we have to scramble and fall over ourselves to be a part of? Then introduce “Special rewards” (wording on your website about sunday’s event) for people who show up?

Picture the player who missed the event because they had work, or school, or life.

They feel the like the kid who didn’t get picked for the elementary school dodgeball team because they weren’t good enough, or cool enough. Why, if they have other priorities in life besides your game, must they be excluded? Is that fair?

They won’t like your game, they will RESENT it because they felt left out.

Arenanet, I want to be playing Guild Wars 2 for a long time. I played Guild Wars 1 since launch.

When you announce these one time events, I don’t feel excitement, I feel frustration. I ask why I have to schedule my life around your game. There are a dozen ways to do this that let everyone participate. You could have the initial event/cinematic instanced, and happen for you once you enter the zone, or you could have it run multiple times… or something. Anything. Just don’t let your players feel left out because they missed a one-time thing.

TLDR:
You designed a user-friendly game with a philosophy of inclusion. Everyone is involved because parties aren’t necessary, level scaling lets everyone play together.
One time events go against this, they are exclusionary. Don’t leave your players feeling left out. It will leave players RESENTING your game, not ENJOYING it.

I’m not sure what’s going on when I use the mad king costume. I’ve tried the tonics, and they all work fine, letting me brawl to my heart’s content. However when I use mad king thorn (the gem store costume) I can use any of his abilities, except his “1” attack. It kicks me out of costume brawl (puts my number 5 on cooldown) the second I use it.

It basically means I can’t participate in costume brawl if I want to use my auto attack.

Mark of blood bug?

For some reason when I was running dungeons today, I would cast mark of blood directly on an enemy, and the regeneration part wouldn’t work. They still bleed, but I don’t get the healing part. Is that normal? Is anyone else experiencing this?

GW2 HoM: Setting Goals!

I remember in GW1 when the Hall of Monuments came out with the promise of GW2 rewards it breathed new life into the game. Suddenly old guild members rushed back to the game to accomplish this new goal.

That’s what I see a lot of people complaining about: A lack of goal in endgame. I’ve seen a lot of threads on here and reddit that people want something to work towards.

So what if we had a Hall of Monuments for GW2… to give us GW2 rewards.

Anet: What do you want us to do in game?
Complete every dungeon?
See special corners of the world?
Complete our story?
Try some PvP?
Kill the Dragon Minions in DEs?

ANYTHING you want us to try out in the game, make a HoM statue for it and have statues give us a skin, or an item, or something silly.

It’s a goal. Something to work towards. Something like 100% world completion or finishing personal story.

And the little aesthetic trinkets are the carrots that keep us going.

Yes we have achievements, but at the moment the achievement points don’t seem to do anything.

I’m not going to lie: Working on 50/50 for my HoM in GW1 was two years of fun. I did everything in the game knowing I was making PROGRESS.

Heck, you could even combine it with your home instance. Have that be our HoM.

Anyway. Just an idea. I wanted to hear what other people thought of it.

For those who rocked the HoM in GW1, would you like to see something like that in 2?

Have there been any announcements on future plans for home instances? They were the one thing about the game I was “most” excited about, but a little…. underwhelmed with.

However, I can see a LOT of room for exciting improvements. Has there been any “We plan to do this…” or should I wait with bated breath?

As a side note I’d ask: What would you most like to see in them?
