September 3: Crystal Desert and Story Week?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I received a “promotional” message on the email account registered to GW2, and it definitely said “3”. In fact, I cut the subject line of this thread straight out of that email.

Anyway, this is probably more what they intended:

… and of course it is now the 5th.

September 3: Crystal Desert and Story Week?

So, referencing the news/announcement post:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/coming-up-mounts-week/

and then the “recap” post:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/recap-mounts-week/

… I still don’t know what this September 3 announcement was about, or what we were intended to understand from the teaser “Crystal Desert and Story Week begins”. There was a bit of verbiage about mounts, and a link to the Wiki “mount hub”… but no events, nothing new to look at in-game.

Was that all there was? Hmm…

Daily Event Etiquette

When I first arrive in a daily event map, I say: “Just arrived, any events?”

Announcing that a relevant event is a chain (assuming you know the event), how much time an event has left, how quickly it is going, and/or when an event is done, is probably a good idea.

I will often open the world map and scan the zone for contested waypoints. Especially in low-level zones (in contrast, some WPs in higher-level zones are permanently dysfunctional and always show contested), this often indicates a nearby event is active (though not all events affect waypoints like this). When players on the map are not prepared to be helpful (which is all too common), this is about the only thing I can think of to orient on events at a distance.

Leading by example, and asking for clear directions, is helpful… though as I say there are a great many people who are (for whatever reason) just not helpful, even (or perhaps especially) when asked, hence my forum post.

Ideally, perhaps ANET could add a feature that allows all events active in a zone to be visible on the world map to players in the zone, at least when the zone is a daily event zone. This would probably be counterproductive to the “dynamic”/“exploration” paradigm if this feature was always “on” in every zone.

Some suggestions for etiquette during “daily events” (i.e. when you go into a zone and participate in 4 dynamic events as part of your credit towards your PvE daily achievement):

1) When you spot an event, share in it map chat. It is amazing how much more quickly the whole process goes for everyone when people share in this fashion.

2) When sharing an event in map chat, cite a locus, like the nearest waypoint or POI (by default: shift-click on the map, with a chat message under construction), plus a rough compass direction from that locus (events are often not visible from the locus, and having to search for the event takes time and therefore limits or even precludes participation).

3) Do these things even in low-level zones, and even if you are wearing a tag. Even in low-level zones events often produce several waves, require collection, are timed, etc, and therefore permit enough time for people to arrive and participate. Even if you are wearing a tag, the less time people have to spend trying to figure out who you are, where your tag is, which of several tags is yours, where the event is, and etc, the easier it will be.

4) When you engage in an event, go a bit slow (i.e. tap and then just autoattack), to give other players time to arrive, to give players a chance to collect an event item or two for credit, and/or to give melee players a chance to tap dynamically spawned event targets for credit.

I expect the more we help each other out in these simple/obvious ways, the happier we will all be.

Shatterer Crystal Healing Denier Achievement

Another Shatterer encounter, tapped another 6-8 crystals, did damage in each case, again got credit for only 1 (very early, i.e. on the first crystal).

Looks like this may currently be capped at 1 per encounter?

Wish this was meaningfully documented somewhere.

I continue to have massive trouble progressing on this achievement. I will do damage to a minimum of 6-8 crystals per Shatterer fight, and typically receive credit for a maximum of 1 (and often receive credit for none/0/zero).

It is as if one must do a minimum amount of damage to receive credit, or score the killing blow, or meet some other sort of undocumented/cryptic exclusionary criteria to receive credit. Or, perhaps there is simply a defect?

(As well, searching for earlier threads on this topic discovers nothing… perhaps there is a web site defect?)

Is this back to being broken (as of 2016/03/20)?

Finished Shatterer just now (as I write this), did damage to at least 6 crystals during the course of the fight, and got no credit for any of them as far as I could see.

Engineer Speed?

As of July 2015, This thread still pops up as Google’s top search result for “engineer speed”.

All of the traits-related information in this thread (and much of the skill-related information as well) now appears to be obsolete, after the major specialization changes of June 2015.

About the only viable option I can find now is to equip the “Med Kit” healing skill, activate it, and use the resulting skill #4 (“Throw Accelerant”… squirt it at max range in front of you as you run, then run over it; it takes a moment to fly and land so it needs to be out ahead of you a bit).

This has a relatively short cooldown, resulting in a fairly high uptime for the resulting speedup.

Unfortunately, the healing available via the “Med Kit” is not very useful to an 80 (minimal utility relative to a 20K+ health pool). I end up swapping “Med Kit” out for other healing skills as soon as I am done “travelling”, and have to remember to do this before segueing into combat.

Megadestroyer never appears

As a ranger, I tried to AOE the bright spot in the lava (on the assumption that corresponded to MD’s location), to no visible effect: no damage floating text appeared, and of course there was no health bar visible and no way to target a submerged adversary explicitly.

It is always possible I simply missed, but I am not certain AOE would have been effective.

Attending Megadestroyer… all pre-events completed, Megadestroyer event comes up, but Megadestroyer never appears.

Apparently this is a recurring defect that has been around a long time. Especially disruptive on this occasion since it was a daily.

Karka Queen event VERY UNSTABLE

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: acapela.2468

Two days in a row now, while fighting the Karka Queen, the GW2 client application has crashed. There seems to be something uniquely “bad” about this particular encounter.

Sometimes I get credit for the kill, but since I can’t return to the specific map for the chest, I receive no reward (and even if I could return to the same map, it is a very long run through numerous threats, so the chest would invariably expire before I could ever hope to reach it). Sometimes I receive no credit (or reward), and have to wait 4 hours to try again.

Yes, its just one boss, but if when this happens regularly, it begins to affect my ability to collect ascended materials (and character development is an important reason why I play the game; so, when this sort of instability impedes character development, this part of the rationale is called into question).

At this point, I think the developers should provide some means to obtain rewards after a crash like this.
