As I thought the game is aimed to promote freedom of profession, but many dungeons have become not doable without certain profession or armor set.
We have started to see “looking for <profession>” in the map chat already, do we really want the game to evolve into Looking for <profession1> x n type of dungeon group?
As game is rolling into 3rd months after release, I ask what is the logic behind the design of small space + ultimate spamming aoe which makes rolling only possible with first 2 aoe, and will ultimately failed after third even when you’re specced full endurance restoring?
super stunlock / knockdown lock is almost as ridiculous as anything there is for most of the dungeon, who was the smartass behind these design?
AC was doable without having specific professions ever since BWE, but almost every other dungeons aren’t. And yet you want to remove the holy trinity equation when you only put up dungeons with the requirements of them.
At this point I can see how LFG for dungeon feature might ultimately fail because you will probably get professions that aren’t fit together for a dungeon that you queue for.
where is the full socialization aspect of this?
knowing x number of friend as ranger + knowing n number of friend as guardian + knowing m number of friend as elementalist + knowning k number of friend as mesmer ultimately decides you will succeed in dungeon or not.
can we remove the holy mother of kittenount of hp and make dungeon more fun rather a dying fest when certain profession isn’t present?
thank you
after the final Halloween patch, the game started to crash again.
here is the spec:
driver: 306.23
card: gtx 670 OC
cpu i5-3570k
setup is i have dual monitor, one is powered by cpu’s intel HD 4000 whereas the other powered by the graphic card.
when the crash occurs, the one that’s powered by the card goes black, followed by no input state of HDMI port. while the one powered by Intel HD 4000 remains normal display except because it’s a system driver crash, the whole system hangs.
the only way to resume the system is to do a system hard reset. And this occurs in CoF dungeon’s path2 where you are gathering those flame gem for magg (before the lava part)
couple tips for those that can’t make it:
1. on the first part before the 2nd part starts, stand on the big cog. if you stand on the rock / small cog your camera will go haywire.
2. on the 2nd part, jump to initial shield, after next rock, don’t try to jump over the bump, take your time and jump onto the bump. After that attempt to stay as closer to the tower as possible (especially with the 4 flights of stairlike rock section, jump to 2nd step then jump right onto the flatter ground)
3. when you come to a part where there’s a single beam with a vertical cog, if you weren’t on the right path to begin with, you already wasted almost 1 sec. If you are then you can jump onto the vertical cog directly. After that should be couple segment followed by a big dive down then up again. If you wasted 1 ~ 2 second before this part on unnecessary jumps, you will fail the dive, doesn’t matter if you aimed right or not because it will just be submerged. After that when you get to a stair that’s attaching to a bumpy rock, if you make it thru, you will have about 3 sec of breathing space.
the rest are straightforward jumping except when you come to 2 closely crossed beam, you have to jump down to the platform with the chest, then the path will appear. Keep in mind that if you wasted up to 2~3 seconds before this part, don’t even bother, you will just jump into the mist.
And watch people’s recording video and see how people made the jumps, there are people who did it without any speed buffs.
no it doesn’t. your ability to decide where to go is simple using your mouse to rotate, while your left hand kept moving forward button down, and let it go from time to time.
what speed is pointless since your character moves at a constant speed unless buffed to make a fluctuating situation.
also if you’ve done all jump puzzles as you said, including the griffon one while carrying the bomb, you should have no problem doing this puzzle.
slow reflex will matter in the situation of like dodging enemy attacks / jumping through laser field in CoE the first time.
if you made the right jump, you can save alot of times ahead, and if you made the wrong jump, you will waste time and fail again and again.
this puzzle doesn’t need fast reflexes, just need to know where you are heading and when you’re suppose to jump.
speed buff helps a ton, the puzzle pace goes pretty fast at first, but if you have speed buff after the first segment, it will be alot easier consider that half way thru, you get a bit of time to make some minor mistakes.
So steal a banner, i find that the most helpful. Otherwise you have to be precise about every jump you make.
as i’ve stated, if not taking out retaliation does not do any considerable damage to your teammate, then either
1. your team does not have dps with quickness buff
2. your team are mostly slower attacking speed profession that the damage can be negated with casual healing
3. your team does not have the people that will cause boss to shot his attack at the teammate directly.
the retaliation is -199 dmg per hit, with quickness buff, you can lose upward to 6k ~ 8k hp in short few second.
being in crystal will reduce aoe damage, but you forget that when you’re up close to the boss, you usually won’t have full hp to take the hit, even when the damage is reduced. Dragontooth through crystal can still hit you over 18k damage whereas ice can hit over 10k unless you have aegis on. aegis can block ice attack but not dragontooth.
The damage I have here was calculated after running it serveral times with Guardian on full power/vit/toughness hotw exotic and Ranger with full power/precision/crit dmg coe exotic.
Also don’t forget boss can hit you directly as the same as everything else while you’re in the crystal. The only reason that when people can’t get you out in time while you’re crystal and still survived after getting hit by ice / dragontooth is solely because you had protection buff on and didn’t lose enough hp before being crystallized.
the best group of pug i had, we didn’t have to do retaliation turret nor worry about being in crystal. 0 death and cleared path 2 & 1 both together under 1 hr. But that’s one of the statistically 1 percentile group you can ever hope for in a pug, and it was consist of people from different server. So I’d rather take precaution than to assume things will be safe, hence my guide.
1. often in pug, you only get 1 person that knows what’s going on
2. and usually 2 people aren’t enough since it depends on professions. if it was 2 rangers / 2 guardians / 2 engineers, alot of times you won’t be able to break crystal before alpha summons dragontooth / ice on it.
3. you must’ve played with people that usually know what they’re doing. If retaliation turret does not go down, range dps often takes the hit especially those that don’t proc off cond dmg or ground target dmg. taking it off just negates those damage (-199 per hit, with quickness buff it can rack up pretty fast). Not to mention 7 out of 10 time of that fight you get the person that is being targeted running around the room, making boss spam his attacks on everyone.
Path 2: Teleportation
This is a very easy path if your team trust each other and follow the guideline closely, I like to start with this path because if your team can get through path 2, you can get through path 1 & 3 easily.
(Bosses)
- Alpha phase 1(earth spikes, ice spikes, dragontooth, melee 120 range flame aoe, summon risen mobs)
- Alpha phase 2(earth spikes, ice spikes, dragontooth, melee 120 range flame aoe, crystallization, summon undead arms)
- Alpha phase 3(earth spikes, ice spikes, dragontooth, melee 120 range flame aoe, crystallization, essence healing, summon undead arms)
- Husk (plant spike, earthquake)
- Champion Risen (frenzy)
- Robot with 4 Turrets (static field, flame wall, energy ball, charge)
for Alpha all phases it’s all the same. Melee, Melee, Melee. Doesn’t matter if you are light / medium / heavy armour, if you don’t stay melee you are doing it wrong (except phase 1, that one is optional.) Some will argue that bosses only has 3 most improtant attacks to watch out for, and we can distinguish between ice / spike, sure but 99% of newbies can’t. So just count to 2.5 seconds and roll after you see one giant circle followed by one small circle under your feet. Most people die trying to revive their teammate that failed to dodge, so your death can cause semi-wipe to your team. If you’re all melee, when you’re down you have 4 people there to revive you, faster & safer & happier.
for Husk, melee professions grab rifles because melee hitbox is just horrible at killing bushes. range should get bushes as top priority since it will take forever for melee to take down a bush. DO NOT use the subversive rifle on a golem from far away because it is inefficient, and DO NOT have multiple subversive rifle on a golem since the golem can just explode in your face. Lure the golem close to the husk then either use skill 1 of the rifle or just wait for golem to sit down and use skill 2 to knock the golem directly to the boss. (I don’t think there is a need to say don’t make the golem explode on your teammate, but don’t do it)
for Champion Risen, if you don’t have a good daze profession, kite it. having frenzy stacked at 25 isn’t funny and it can wipe your team. Immobilization, stun, knockdown, pull, push, launch will not work. only daze (daze from ranger’s shortbow will not work as well)
for Robot with turret, just follow the generic guideline since it’s all the same.
Path 3:
This path is generally similar to path 2 except you get a destroyer boss instead of the husk.
The champion spider before the destroyer boss, ignore it as the location and damage and the amount of hp it has making it not a worth killing target.
The destroyer boss, this fight will be easier if you have 2 rangers with extended longbow range or any range with skills that can reach the destroyer, there are ways to fight the boss in closer range but i’m not going to disclose the method here. Overall: 3 people synchronize in killing the shield with the lasers followed by the remaining 2 dps full power on the boss when the shield is down, don’t try melee as you will likely get knockdown into lava when the shield is backed up.
and that’s all the guide to the bosses:
so far the team (pug) i’m with when following these guidelines, the death has been close to 0 for everyone. Whereas the team where we get one or more people not following the guideline, we get some repair bill. And for the team with almost no one following the guideline, you get heavy repair bill. So take your pick.
First of all, I realized there is already a guide that tells people about everything in COE dungeon, however I’m getting tired of having pug or even guild group that failed to comprehend what the dungeon really is testing you on.
First and foremost, COE is not for solo players. It is not for those that only fend for themselves but rather requires trust and teamwork.
General Rules:
1. if large golems are in place, always do Support > Assult K > Battle J > others
you may ask why, this is simply because:
- Support golem’s flameshield will basically kill anyone who’s not using heavy armour
- Assult K is more of a focus high burst damage attack that only works on one person
- Battle J will use chill at a distance, making it impossible to escape small bombs or other aoes constantly
2. prepare a weapon that will give your profession close range AOE (greatsword / flamethrower / axe). This will make alpha encounters like cakewalks.
3. DO NOT kite alpha. I don’t care what your definition of kiting is. but if you are dragging alpha across the whole room with your teammate constantly chasing it, THEN you are kiting it. Kiting alpha makes the killing slower and will thin out your team across larger area, easier to get killed one by one when crystallized / down)
4. DO NOT attempt to revive another person during alpha phase unless you are absolutely sure you can dodge the aoe alpha is going to cast on you both. And don’t wait for revive. Use the undead arms from the ground to get yourself up or die trying.
5. At the Robotic boss with 4 turrets, take out retaliation as top priority unless you are a whole team of guardian. retaliation is useless against guardian but it can do some wonder damage towards non-guardian professions. Protection turret is semi-necessary but you can take it down if you like.
Path 1: Submarine
This is arguably the easiest path if you have a team that knows what they are doing and can do aoe heals.
(Bosses)
- Alpha phase 1(earth cone spikes, dragontooth, melee 120 range flame aoe, summon risen mobs)
- Alpha phase 2(earth cone spikes, dragontooth, melee 120 range flame aoe, crystallization, summon undead arms)
- Alpha phase 3(earth cone spikes, dragontooth, melee 120 range flame aoe, crystallization, essence healing, summon undead arms)
- son of svir boss
- Robot with 4 Turrets (static field, flame wall, energy ball, charge)
for Alpha phase 1, the more you stay melee range (like in your face melee) the better your team can survive, unless you can constantly stay @ 1200 range, if you’re targeted by Alpha, you will be hit by the earth cone spike because alpha likes to cast his dragontooth on you and when you dodged out he then cast that cone spike on you. you may encounter groups that like to stay behind alpha at all times, this is simply because alpha’s melee spike circle is small, and staying melee has better chance at dodging it rather being at range.
for Alpha phase 2, same principle applies, but if you don’t have teleportation skills like thief/mesmer/elementalist/guardian, you better stay melee so your teammate has better chance of saving you from the crystals. if you think going range is going to save you, don’t bother because no one is ever going to notice you are in a crystal or you are downed.
for Alpha phase 3, do the same as phase 2.
for Son of Savir boss, DON’T attack with your pet, DON’T use illusions, DON’T use minions and DON’T tank the boss unless the boss has just charged into a pillar. They distracts the bosses and make the fight longer by letting bosses charging into bunch of trash aggro targets. If you don’t allow the boss to charge into the pillar, the only thing that can hurt him would be condition damages.
for Robot with turret, just follow the generic guideline since it’s all the same.
Anet, you said to report botter, can you explain this?

this was from the anet staff in the previous thread:
“Our team is working on anti-bot tools and we hope that this sort of issue will soon be greatly reduced if not eliminated. In the meantime, please click on the bot and use /report to submit a report. Thank you.”
i did what he said to do all the time with bots. if like you said then the staff must be trolling us to do something that will never be looked upon

remember the post i made long ago?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Ridiculous-Bot-Army-coming-through-ss-provided
that was back in Kessex Hill
and today in Bloodtide Coast, I found this: (in attachment)
do you see a familiar name in there? Thought so.
there are also others that i’ve reported along the way through the map, and they are..well take a look in the attachment.
you claimed to have disabled thousands of accounts, why are the same people (shown in the pic) still persist in botting? and have leveled up to be able to bot in different map!
does reporting actually works? you know how many people have left the game because of the bots?
for us legit and manual player, i think we deserve an answer.
(edited by aekt.9438)
All the botters are ranger with pet “brown bear”.
They circle the area for the repeating quest of the kessex hill infamous bridge event as a giant group.
This is becoming more and more ridiculous as days go by.
Anet do something about this. thx

i do not know whether you are the infamous bystander that botted on the bridge, dragon events or jeloka. But serveral people on our server have reported many times that “account id bystander” botted whenever i’ve walked through those famous botting area just to get to next map.
but if you are, cut out the lie and suck it up like a man, you botted and you should accept the consequences.
Ranger’s Shortbow skill 3 (Quick Shot) if you use it while moving and it hits the target, you can get stuck on where you leaped backward, i often have to mash my movement keys to get my char moving again.
