Condition Damage VS. Direct Damage

I don’t believe that I have missed anything, nor am I unable to dodge. First of all, you’re not able to dodge every single attack that’s thrown at you. Second of all, this game makes it very difficult to play your own style, regardless of what you believe. I’m glad you’re able to run around Orr and nuke the mobs. I would imagine an AoE class would excel at doing so. Third, if you run condition damage and pure power in a PvP setting, such as WvWvW which I do quite often, you’re not going to get very far. As a thief, I’m pretty limited on the type of builds I can run. I’ve only just begun to play the other classes, so I can’t speak for them. I have two options, condition damage heavy with some defense, or I can run a backstab focus build with little to no defense. I do not believe that what we were trying to say needed a rude response like “Or are you just so unable to dodge that you feel forced to spec into Vit and Toughness thus in your opinion eliminating the chance at having both Direct and Condition damage?”. We weren’t saying that we are bad at the game, or even hinting it. We were simply stating a little more variation would be nice. I’m sorry you cannot understand that.

I completely agree with being able to swap out weapon skills like we can utility skills. In the original Guild Wars, the number of skills we had were insane. You could truly make yourself a build to fit your play-style. I don’t believe that it would be too much to ask to let us pick between one or two other weapon skill choices. For example, as I played an Assassin in the original and a Thief in this game, instead of Death Blossom I would prefer to use Vampiric Assault. I do not like condition damage because, as you said, if you go down that path virtually all your other non-condition skills are nearly useless. It’s nice to find some people agree with me on issues like this.

I can definitely agree with you on both attacking with both weapons and dual swords. I feel like a flailing idiot swinging away with one hand, and in the other my arm is just kinda hanging out to the side…

Backstab is OP but 20k dmg from 1200 range is not?

No, I really do not believe that a thief needs a nerf. So what, I can down someone in a couple hits (from a combo that if one skill doesn’t land I’m royally screwed), I can’t stay there to finish them off unless I use one of my utilities. I can down a light armor with one backstab, how is that unfathomable? Really none of the points that people are giving me about my class needing a nerf are all too mind blowing. I said this on another post and someone wanted to flame me for it, clearly they do not understand the point of a medium armor melee class. My health and toughness are for crap. If I gear/put in points for those stats my damage is for crap. Take a second to think about what you’re trying to get across. If I have naturally lower health and toughness, I should therefore have a rather high damage output. And anyone who wants to tell me that the mobility of a thief is all too amazing, you’re blowing smoke. I have three utilities, four counting my healing skill, and I’m going to rely on those for my mobility. Those skills typically have about 60s CD on them, minus the Hide in Shadows (using that skill would mean I waste a healing ability to run away). Also, stealth in this game is pretty terrible. There is no reason that a class with the most armor and health should also dish out the same, if not more, damage than my thief. There’s a lot more I could go on about, but I’ll save myself the time.

Now, here comes the flame!

I feel for you guys

I’m glad someone agrees. I see tons of people counter statements like these with “There are tons of builds for thieves that offer better survivability,” and that may be true, but only if I expect to pump out enough damage to kill the chickens and cows in the game. Thieves are the equivalent to rogues; rogues are suppose to dish out insane damage in just a couple seconds because they have lower health and armor. I guess people can’t wrap that around their mind though, and the warrior should easy kill me with one ability. Makes a lot of sense.
