Hey, logged in for first time in a year to answer your question – I’m in exact same situation as you and solved it: create a new character! I found myself with 0 skill points on my chars and the need for a Bloodstone Shard so I picked a new class (Guardian), and spent the weekend running around tyria to grab POIs, waypoints, and the 202 skill challenges.
20 or so hours of work, a new lvl 80 character, roughly 40g (admittedly with lucky drops) and 250 skill points.
+ you get to re-experience the beautiful world of Tyria while avoiding the boring hearts.
Hey all, we are aware of the bug with Ranger traps. A fix is slated for to take care of this bug tonight.
Bugfix patch:
- Rangers are now no longer available in class selection menu
More damage control BS, exactly like last time. Expecting Ranger subforum blowing up again next “balance” patch.
Dev visited, wrote damage control bs, and left.
Funny how we get “unintended” nerfs, but no “intended” fixes.
So… The change to traps, intentional or not, is a little surprising. That’s a pretty big kick in the baby maker for trap builds.
What happened to traps?

Thought you had enough with the lackluster patch notes? They’ve actually NERFED all traps to a 30sec cooldown, but haven’t changed tooltips (incorrectly show 20 and 25 secs) or added to patch notes.

Lol at people staying this patch was bugfixes – rangers are still bugged (Sword, Entangle, pet F2) even though we’ve been clamoring for months and were promised changes.
I had such high hopes. Just check, sword MH is still bugged, so is Entangle.
It’s not like we’ve been clamoring for it since launch or anything.
- Improved the effect chance on ranger spirits to 35% base and 50% when traited.
- Beastmastery minor traits now use the correct icon.
- Splinter Shot: This skill’s damage is increased by 150%, and its bleeding duration is increased from 3 seconds to 4 seconds.
- Counterattack: The blocking portion of this skill can now be used while moving. Ranged attacks will not trigger the second half of the skill.
- Protecting Screech: This skill now states the correct duration of 4 seconds.
- Call of the Wild: The Wilderness Survival trait Off-Hand Training now applies to this skill.
- Throw Torch: The speed of the projectile has been increased.
- Maul: This skill’s damage has been increased by 40%.
- Sun Spirit: The tooltip for this skill now displays the proper burning time of 3 seconds.
- Whirling Defense: This skill was updated so that it interacts better with combo fields.
- Splinter Shot: This skill is now a small projectile combo finisher.
- Coral Shot: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.
- Feeding Frenzy: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.
- Mercy Shot: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.

I can’t believe this – look at the dev channel and reds are openly talking about the roles& updates for other classes. Once again, us rangers are left in the dark. We don’t even know what the devs think our class is “for”: Thiefs, Eles and Mesmers are for escapes/mobility, Necros are for attrition, Warriors for damage – so what do we do?
So everyone was expecting a fix Nov 1, but it’s in two weeks? Great, at least I’ll have time to go back to real life.
GHs have been confirmed for a future update.
Also, scrap GHs – those were fun 7 years ago.
We need GUILD AIRSHIPS.
100% agree with orci’s post (which reiterates MANY posts in the past few days).
I love my ranger to bits (been 80 for two weeks, 2*400 crafting, 100% explo), but I really feel like most of their traits & skills are very underwhelming.
Bring back the GW1 jack of all trades I know and love!
I have a:
- female Norn called “Born Noobs”
- idiot Asura called “Hurp”.
- mean, grizzly Charr engineer called “Cuddles Rainbowsmiles”
Friend of mine has “Sabbit Rex”.
Bear: Desmond Moon Bear
White Raven: Archimedes
Props to anyone who gets them.
I switched to an SSD on my new MBP and rebooting to Windows is less than 30 seconds worth of time – so for me it’s less a question of convenience, more a question of philosophy.
As you say, Arenanet have shown themselves to be innovative and ignoring the status quo to reinvent several areas of gaming that have been stale for years.
I would really love to see them start working on an OSX client therefore: this makes sense from a user perspective, with the growing numbers of Apple computers being sold.
Still bugged in Aurora Glade
