Is mos.millenium.org down? Wanna see how its all unfolding :-(
An enormous tyria-sized multi-zone 3-way tug-of-war map. Think EBG on a multi-zone scale. When a zone is completely dominated by a server, it is effectively ‘captured’ or ‘locked’ for a period of time and no opposing waypoints can be built during that time.
dynamic events that could temporarily boost supply camps:
1) grab a mining pick and mine some rocks for the quarry supply camp
2) grab an axe from the rack and chop down some trees for the lumber yard
3) use this whip and round up some dolyaks to the camp
Succeeding in this could give short term benefits to the camp:
- a temporary boost in supply generation rate
- a one-time deal second dolyak (if it dies it is gone)
Chain the supply camp with a second DE that allows you to carry a bundle directly from the camp to the tower/keep. The bundle gives you a different set of weapon abilities – gimpy fighting abilities mostly designed to limit your fighting ability. Carrying the bundle also reduces your run speed by a set amount in order force further vulnerability. If you swap weapons you drop the bundle and have to run back to start over. Upon delivering the bundle, the tower/keep receives a little supply.
Different/more siege options tied to more DE:
- a ‘dynamite’ bundle you could pick up that allows you to plant on the walls
- ladders/siege towers events when an enemy objective has been standing for far too long
I’m partial to:
[day/month/year] RED | BLUE | GREEN
or for more US centric (sans the year):
[month/day] RED | BLUE | GREEN
Watching Kaineng move up the ladder is fun, it’s like Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!, where Kaineng is Little Mac and working up the ladder by continually knocking out opponents. While Ehmry Bay fought in T4 for some time, they are the smallest of the 3 – Maguuma, Yak’s Bend and Ehmry Bay. (Dragonbrand doesn’t count, recent population changes have made them more closely rated for T3)
Considering Ebay’s recent loss of guilds these past 2 weeks, chances look high that Kain’s wvw population may be greater than Ebay’s – but that doesn’t necessarily mean Ebay will be going down without a fight.
I predict Ebay and Kain will be tussling around for about 2 weeks, and if Kain does indeed move up the ladder, Kain better be prepare themselves for Mags and Yaks; because those two are the true veterans of T4 and don’t look down on newcomers lightly having lots of experience fighting with an oceanic disadvantage. T4 will be a test to see if your NA primetime crew is worth their salt.
HOWEVER, if Kain does manage to climb past T4 into T3, T3 is where your true test will be – pitted against DB and CD that possess much higher oceanic coverage than all the servers below it – which also means a 3-way mirror fight between servers that have almost the same exact coverage distribution. I’m watching with great interest. It’s gonna be like Pacquio vs Mayweather – and I’m excited to see how this all unfolds.
But let’s see where T5 goes first and if the hype is deserved of the progress. T-minus 1 hour before showtime!
The wvw styles of all the brackets are different. The key to winning T6 is breaking morale. All T5 servers that moved from T6 know that whomever breaks the other spirit wins, and the key to winning T5 is all about tenacity. T4 is a different beast- it begins the odd transition from lower tier wvw fighting to what would be referred to as ‘big league’ wvw. At this point all servers know the attacks and counters to treb placement, uncounterable arrow carts, pulling blitzkrieg maneuvers, maximizing zergonomics all that jazz. By the time you hit T4, your server pretty much knows how to play, both teams are pretty good at telegraphing their opponents movements, and what kind of resistance they expect to encounter when starting a breakout event (which is kinda useless at t4, even when trying to strategically employ the breakout to provide a distraction) etc.
T4 is no longer about how well you can outplay your opponent. T4 is about attrition warfare: the server with the most resources (gold/siege/manpower) is going to win. Whomever can throw the most golems at a reinforced door. Whomever has the best 24 hour coverage. Whomever has the most players logging in. That is what wins wvw games in the Majors.
The biggest problem with upper tier wvw is that every server starts to play it safe – they try not to spend any more resources unless they absolutely have to. This pretty much means all keeps/towers attacked are fully upgraded, so trebs/golems are used way more often than rams/cata. Its like the Cold War: everybody has nukes, and is waiting for their opponent to make the first move.
That is also the reason why many upper tier wvw guilds leave for lower tier competition, as wvw matches become irritatingly boring and predictable. Seriously, its nothing but golem rushes and portal bombing.
The went to Maguuma because the nature of wvw had started to transition from skirmish style fighting to zerg-style in order to maintain competitive. Probably in due course as upper tier competition generally goes, where attrition warfare is the simplest path to net you wins: coverage + upgrade cost + manpower = points.
It was becoming less about fighting for the sake of the fight despite winning or losing, and instead playing the same hail mary maneuver over and over again to take objectives; playstyle started becoming boring and predictable when traditional pvp style combat started to become meaningless when the win was pretty much determined by whomever brings the most swords to the field.
And then there was the issue with the population growth, Ebay started to attract the wrong type of crowd – I’m not talking about the organized guilds that contribute to the war effort like HIRE & TOFU (who have contributed greatly), but the anonymous internet individuals that troll the forums and look at mos.millenium.org and think to themselves, “what server is awesome? I’m going to go there and wide that wave!” only to find out that their transfer decision wasn’t what they thought, and start trolling /team about how everybody else is terrible and dump their nasty attitude all over the place when they show up in their BL and see fighting going on. You know, like the average dota player. People that don’t actually contribute to the community but looking to get praise.
But the core issue is upper tier fighting – it starts to get big and cumbersome where size > all – and combat starts to become predictable and boring with all sides trying to out-golem the other simply due to the fact that it’s the most effective way to net the most points quickly.
Same here. I tried logging into a character stationed in Lions Arch, but I get a “The game client is unable to gain access to the lo-in server at this time..” message. I had an alt in queensdale, and was able to log in without issue with that character – to which I decided to try to zone into Lions Arch – bad move: zoneing into Lions Arch gave me another “The game client us unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time..” message. Now I have two characters I cannot log into
