i know how to do pretty everything about my role, but 2 things sound new to me:

- focus skill (#5 i guess) to lure hellstorms close to turret so the others kill faster
- port npc right after start ( wut? O__o)

are those things very necessary? i did runs without them effortlessly.
and i’d need a brief explaination about both, anyone can help?

i didn’t know about veteran YOUNG karkas… i’ve never found one so far.

veterans and champion (not young) karkas are a waste of time, no drop for me.

can you tell me where to find those veterans?

so i was reading around that farming karkas as mesmer is easy, put feedback and mimic and go.

but.

i don’t know if anything changed since that post i read was created: young karkas get owned bu such skills, but veterans are untouchable (and didn’t drop anything) and very annoying to kill.

anyone can help me out?

i don’t understand if the object must be between the 2 portals or between the player and a portal.

edit: if it were like knacky ha spointed out, it would be a complete absurdity, since i don’t see the need for a portal in an open space. what sort of mage cannot open a gate between two points, no matter what’s in the middle. this completely screws the logic of a portal itself. just remove the skill and improve blink range and make it aoe for allies.

isn’t berserker’s output a little too fragile for a mesmer? thinking of situations when you are swarmed by mobs, for example.

should it be good stacking some tough.?

i run a bursty build, it would be enough to use sigils/other upgrades for “survival” (tough-vitality) or should i go for a mixed set?
as for now i’m using non-exotic gear with mixed stats (mostly power-prec, zerker)

so i’m a bit confused about what to do with sets.

i see there are sets for stacking magic find and sets for various builds.

what kind of sets should i be using for dungeons and events (where you aim at the loot)?

and then, what’s the point for other sets? Wvw? speedruns to shorten dungeon completion time?

as promised here it is my opinion; i was thinking of a longer thread before, so i said i would have answered tomorrow evening.

I found it good for newbyes who are apporaching this game (or even this kind of game) for the first time. Many people could have in mind those well known roles and try to focus on them, making the game expeirence inefficient and not funny at all.

I completely quote what you said about customizing your character. Play the profession, find the playstyle you want and fix the leaks and enjoy the content.

@gestankfaust: same weapon sets as yours, still when your phantasms are up and mob is not targeting you, your work is really just waiting for CDs. Not normal mobs, think to dungeons where a fight (especially bosses) can last for a loong time.

i already do that, is just that i cannot stand the long cooldowns on skills. so i asked for professions that don’t have similar issues in certain sets.

as topic title, i live in a residence and we have a sort of shared connection and NAT is closed. game is smooth in pve, but when it comes to wvw (don’t know about spvp yet) and specifically to significant battles (40-50+ players) i have serious lag issues (from 35 fps i drop to 1-8 even on low settings).
i was wondering if that matters and if there are any solutions, apart from, well, opening it since it’s not a personal choice.

perhaps it just comes to one’s playstyle than, i find more gratifying avoiding damage at all and controlling the situation from afar. i’ll take you points as suggestions if i’ll try another set-up, thanks.

i guess going melee puts a lot more effort in terms of skill using since it takes using long cooldown abilities which seems to be more 1-time-life savers than frequently used ones.

seems is something for more melee- nostalgic players than actually useful skills, GS/ staff grants lot of survivability at mid-low sustained damage. if nothing particularly changes in the long run, stacking the same stats for those different weapon sets brings more advantage to staff-GS over sword-sword/X weapon.

about sword/ sword: it looks like mesmer is still too vulnerable to go melee, a hit can take away at least 1/5 of total hp and when it comes to multiple mobs it’s impossible to win or it takes too much time.

is there a certain level when it comes viable or is it just the way it is? pvp oriented?

thank you, i was actually thinking of damage improvement for the iwarlock from clones conditions.

i was not thinking of a mod, thanks for the tips to the 3 guys up here.

about being traited: what traits make clones able to deal damage? i knew they were able to do a little damage (15 or so) at level 80.

so playing around with my mesmer i found some points that leave me doubtful:

- is it possible to shatter illusions right after they get lethal damage? it looks like there’s a 1-sec delay before they disappear.
- after being given the shatter command, illusions stop completely to attack right? (iyt would be nice if phantams did one last shot)
- staff clones apply conditions? (putting conditions doesn’t seem related to actually doing damage)
- phantasmal warlock gets closer than the actual range to the enemy, bug?
- has anyone found a way to quickly use area skills? i use no mouse at all, and losing time to targt area with the trackpad is annoyng, apart from “chaos storm” it’s better to use the area skill on your same spot.

i’m just worried about getting the right equip (since i guess i’ll have to chose among several “unique” pieces). Also it is pretty frustrating leveling at low levels, damage seems to be ssoo low and cd way too long related to their effects.

but i cannot figure out if it’s better to “spam” phantasms and let them replace the others (so phantasmal haste loses appeal, i’d go with 30 domination and add “empowered illusions”) or if it’s better to let phantasm be and replace them upon destruction.

let me say that i have a level 10 mesmer and i don’t have any experience in late-game environment.

perhaps i’m just getting frustrated because my mesmer is not this big deal (level 10) so far, i was a paladin back in wow, but the guardian is way too linear for me.

the classical situation of a player (first time on GW, ex-WoW player) not able to choose what class to play.
but the situation is kinda weird because i cannot use the same “parameters” i used back in WoW to pick up a class, here every class can do pretty anything, if specced.
i actually need a hand since i don’t like spending time with a character i won’t be using anymore.
usually in a class i look for good solo capability (pve/ leveling, not including “elitè” mobs), and pvp-wise i’m interested in a class able to win against the others and not being countered by a specific other class. of course it’s up to the player- specific set of skill to win, i don’t mean things like “spam key 1”.
after trying for the first 10 levels mesmer, ele and guardian i was even more confused. mesmer especially was interesting but i see it takes more effort for the same results as other classes, perhaps it’s a matter of being low-level. i actually find more satisfying playing classes which work like a car’s engine: the more you press on the gas pedal (work hard on skills) the more powerful the result is.
[i know this can be applied to every class where the less is spamming skill 1 and the most is playing skills with timing, i hope i’ve given the idea]
