This is almost exactly like the Final Fantasy 14 Bard class, which does use a bow and uses songs as a boon. It’s a lot of fun and I think Anet could make some improvements to make it fit the lore. However, I would rather have a dagger based spec for some serious does. I’m tired of being a boonbot with low tier damage.
I would say that it is a bug. The patch came with a skill change where holding the key would activate the skill soon as it was available. Since instruments don’t have cool downs, it just constantly loops the note until release.
I’m all for that. Forget the tryhard meta that says this is the most effective way. I don’t care about the most effective way, I just want to have fun with it.
I’ll be completely honest with you, I hated leveling my mesmer, however once you hit 80 it’s a blast. A lot of the traits that really bring builds together are unlocked really late in the leveling progression. Mesmers feel like a support class who can hold their own in a fight. While dps isn’t the highest, there are things no one else can do. Start sharing boons and alacrity (provided you bought HoT) and you’ll suddenly be everyone’s best friend. The class is also very forgiving during map exploration due to the portal giving second chances in case of a fall.
Even though the dungeon opens at level 30, it will be difficult to get a group until you are 80. This is for a few reasons above and beyond the elitest mentality. 1) the gold reward was beaten with the nerf bat. 2)you won’t have all your specs available which will hinder your overall effectiveness.
Chug! Chug! Chug!
Tomes of knowledge. 1-80 in about 5 minutes if you count the extra clicking. But seriously, just play. If you have any exp boosters, use them. If your guild has the exp boost, make sure to grab it (note HoT is required). Nearly everything in the game gives some amount of exp. You could join the k train in eotm if you want karma, xp and loot. (Note rates have decreased to 66% of original values).
From reading your post, I would recommend either mesmer or engineer. Mesmer are what I am more familiar with, so I’ll give more insight to it. Mesmer is a jack of all trades class. It can do almost everything a group would require and can solo quite nicely.
Support is available via boon sharing and wells. Mesmer can do decent dps, both power and condi. Like I said, they are a Swiss army knife.
Servers no longer matter because of the megaserver. If the maps you are playing feel empty, you are probably just on a different instance of the map. Use the LFG tool to taxi onto a more populated map.
Bunkers are by no means immortal. I’ve fallen to Dh and reapers. Yes, bunkers survive for a significant amount of time but that’s their job, if they died in 1v1s, then something is horribly wrong. They should hold against 1v2 with minimal issues. Anything higher is understandable to fall against.
Personally I’ve played pvp a lot more since trying the bunker. I love locking a point down while holding 1v1 or 1v2, it keeps several of the other team busy while my team caps or kills. I generally hold enough until I get a +1 to assist in the kill.
I swapped null field in for blink/portal though for some extra boon rip/conditions cleanse to take the pressure off of shattering. I also use sword shield more then staff for blur, deja vu and tot.
If you miss the [LUCK] organized events, you can always catch [MAGI]. We do the meta at 7:30 pm, 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm estate almost every night. Just a shameless plug, I know
Did you hunt down all the strongboxes? There are a decent amount of them, free mastery points laying around.
If you are looking for guidance for particular fractals, there are people will to teach the mechanics. Personally I love teaching them and helping people raise their personal levels. Take the time to help and teach and we, as a community, will have more people available for groups.
So basically you’re suggesting is a build template system, that we have all been asking for……

I myself run almost exactly what you are running except I have ascended armor and use Sunrise and Bolt with a shield. I don’t have problems staying alive. I use the healing and cleanse mantras as staples in my builds along with blink for mobility. I don’t like the heal sig, I would rather have the instant spike healing of the mantra, which can be traited out to give 3 heals which can be used in succession for a huge heal. Become best friends with sword 2, f4, shield 4 and dodge. The more mobile you are the more likely you will stay alive.
No, you earn masteries by filling the xp bar at the bottom of your screen. When the bar is full, it will flash quickly. Click on the icon at the end and you can unlock the ability. It is an interesting system because you learn abilities by doing something that in no way is related to the mastery. Want to be better at gliding? Do the events for xp. and suddenly you can glide better. Want to learn how to speak the language of the natives? Gain tons of xp and suddenly you can speak to them.
Are you training the mastery or do you have that particular mastery completed? You must have the mushroom mastery completed before it will let you bounce. Like all the masteries, you don’t get the ability until you complete the mastery for it.
Go mesmer. Once you get the hang of all the mechanics you can fill most roles that a group needs. You can do massive dps, aoe heals and cleanse, give boons and inflict conditions. Solo is also fun since you’re never really alone, you have 3 clones/phantasm to aid with agro and dps. If you ever get bored you can port people to the ends of JPs or MPs and an all around cool person.
I use Sunrise and Bolt with my chronomancer and I think they look great. Only downside is they are legendary, so not exactly easy to get unless money is no object.
There is a filter for a reason. Use it. While I’m not condoning vulgar language, it will come up. Expecially in pvp. Swinging the ban hammer for language will get a lot of people banned, myself included, very fast.

I’m a mesmer, I got your back to torch the place.
I figured out how to kill the gate guardian and by association, the rest of the instance. You have to run through the circular crystal thing at the beginning to become “Fragile”. The gate guard will take this “fragile” effect from you and then you can kill it. You have to use this mechanic to beat the next 2 bosses. They are basically the same fight, the 2nd one just hits harder and you have to use the atunement effects from the previous fight as well. You cannot actually attack the bosses, you just keep becoming fragile and then killing the Vortex Crystals which damage the boss.
