Guild wars 1 Account restoration tool

Hi

Can one of the dev’s please explain why the restoration tool doesn’t actually work for guild wars 1? So far I have been told:

GM Oracle (Guild Wars 2 Support)
Nov 9, 06:36

“Our system is far too old and does not allow to have any restorations any longer. We can only assist with this tool on Guild Wars 2 at the moment”

Which doesn’t make sense to me, given the large number of restorations done only a year or so ago after so many accounts were banned. Not to mention the fact that numerous people still run windows Xp or other older models on pc’s without to many problems.

Thanks
Cam

If a Dev is reading this as I assume one probably is, can this PLEASE act as a call for you to carry out some work on the original gw? If anything the addition of new content, updates (PLEASE look at shadow form….), and/or server support would improve the entire guild wars brand, including guild wars 2. The players who still play and love gw1 and those who are new (some of whom have joined after playing gw2) would love for this to happen. If you released a new campaign, content, etc (not like “guild wars beyond”) but actual content I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Again, nokitten on guild wars 2, its a very different game, I just want a larger gw1 community.

If you agree please let anet know.

Sadly GW2 isn’t as good as GW1 was and I’m not entirely sure what ANet can do to fix that.

Really ? Fix something that is great ? I hope Anet won’t “fix” our GW2 into GW1 , haha

I don’t understand people like you, You like gw2 correct? Did you not read my post at the start of this topic?

Why the hell do the original players from guild wars not have the right! to complain when the game they loved and supported into what Anet has become today is nothing like the original? Thi company was BUILT off of fans from Gw1 like us!

If you enjoy gw2, great go and play it, read forums like this and laugh but leave it at that! Guild wars would be nothing without the fans from the original.

Given it is gw1 and this is now the forum for gw1 as well, I don’t think so. I am not suggesting they stop playing gw2, I am simply suggesting they try out gw1 again.

The title “Vote with your feet” says otherwise

Incorrect, it may have implied so, therefore i will edit that, but i meant come back and play so anet put more into gw1 servers… not saying don’t play gw2 as they are linked…

Ok I am going to start off by saying, if you like Guild wars 2, fantastic good for you it is a completely different and new game that appears to a wider range of people. That being said, please don’t post things like “Get over it” or “Guild Wars 2 is the future” if this topic as I really don’t care.

This is simply a suggestion to all those who played and loves guild wars 1 and don’t enjoy guild wars 2, to come back and rejoin the original. I play on a daily basis and speed clears, urgoz, deep, Z missions etc are all still incredibly active, the economy has increased the prices of a lot of items (Which I think is great, eg Pyro Axe).

My alliance (of which I am just a guildie) and many other alliances are very active, with players on at any time of day to play along side.

Again, I’m not hating on guild wars 2! Simply saying if you wanted something different, show Arena net and come back. I have restarted my account all over again and love going through the storyline, its amazing how much you forget after taking a break.

Please tell others on social media, gaming forums etc that the game is still active so we can we can rebuild the community feel that gw1 had and still has (all be it a little smaller than before)

AGAIN, I am NOT hating on GW2, if you enjoy it, go and play it.

In GW1 i felt like i was part of community.
In GW2 i feel i’m just a number.

Sums it up for me to be honest. I would like to point out to EVERYONE here and on Every other topic on the forum and EVERY other gaming forum that guild wars 1 is still alive and is actually quite active, I play it daily and we have an amazing active guild that are always keen to help out or do speed clears. Urgoz and Deep are still active (assuming you are part of an alliance). Pvp is a little dead, however this would change if more people came.

Basically if you dislike guild wars 2, show the developers that you want something else and come back to guild wars 1, sure a few people came back it won’t make a difference, but suddenly a large number come back? Anet have no choice but to listen.

Firstly, please leave the lesbian/disability debates out of this topic (I am a Uni student so hear enough of this every day of my life already). I think what they meant by “PC” was the fact that it made the builds/classes far to fixed, as if they didn’t want people to feel like they had a poorly constructed build (Similar to the PC madness seen in most schools now days with the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th place ribbons, which are often exactly the same as the 1st place one…..). I’m not going to get into the gender debate and don’t want it on the topic. Other than that very interesting responses, it is clear that Anet has tried to appeal to the mass market rather than the core it had with GW1, something it may come to regret when the next/new hyped MMO arrives and many of those people move on. I know for a fact that they had player testing done with some of the best PVP and PvE players from gw1 and from what I could gather they listened to none of what they had to say…..

Hi

So I loved guild wars 1 and played it for hours (probably far more than I should have), filled my Hall of Monuments and pre-ordered the game in preparation for its release. Once the game was released It was unique and enjoyable, however my study and sporting requirements overruled my desire to play the game. A few months ago I returned to Gw2 and just couldn’t get into it, its not a bad game it just doesn’t meet the expectations I had for it based on what guild wars 1 was.

So I would really like to hear from the rest of you (especially those who actually played gw1) what your expectations were, were they meet, why or why not, and what are your plans/expectations going forward (give it up, play something else, keep playing, etc). Answer which ever of those you feel like answering.

On a side note, I have decided to return to gw1 (which is now completely wiped, long story) so would be keen to start up a topic where people can provide help/items for gw1 players and post here to keep things up to date.

Look forward to some interesting responses

Is it possible to give away your account? I don’t mean sell, just give away? I really dislike GW2 and the Arenanet team has said they can’t rewind my gw1 account after it was hacked and had all its characters deleted….. It has 50/50 HoM but I can’t see the point in redoing all the titles/campaigns etc to be able to take part in the end game from gw1.

Funding/revenue models for games

Ok, before anyone else posts please keep in mind Advertising has come a long way since the 90’s…. Do you know how many movies you have probably seen which had hidden product placements? This is what I am referring to, not a slap in the face advertising slogan. Obviously everyone thinks of the worse case scenario eg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs5bbWSrzBQ Worst movie placement EVER!).

Just keep this in mind.

Funding/revenue models for games

cam.6850

Hey guys

So in my last topic someone mentioned “extra credit” on youtube, so I watched a number of episodes and would now like to discuss how games make a profit.

To make things easy please watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0ljzAi5DuA for a run down on the 3 ways of funding a games development.

Now that everyones on the same page I want to get a discussion going about how companies pay for a game continuing, future games, updates, etc.

The obvious model used by numerous companies is subscription fee based, which has become very unpopular over time and Anet has set a new stand for others to follow in this regard.

However I think there are other models that are yet to be explored, rather than a Gem store (Which anet does very well, not unfair or unbalanced, just right)

So the other ways which come to mind (feel free to bring up others) would be

1: Advertising models (Think youtube, companies could place a well placed sales pitch within the game, eg Vitamin D supplements, which have been shown through A LOT of research to be very worth while taking, ESPECIALLY if your inside a lot like gamers)

2: CPU processing use, Extra credit cover this in a video as well so refer to them for more explanation.

3: The gathering of information, eg they could have well placed in game questionnaires or have them emailed to you which provide in-game benefits and allow them to sell the data to others.

I just want to get some idea of how the gaming community would react to the various forms of revenue raising. Feel free to bring up other ideas, or express your opinion on B2P, P2P, F2P, gem stores, etc.

Hi

I am a 23yo University Student, looking for a casual PvE focused guild that does a bit of everything (Once I get back into GW, I will start doing dungeons etc I haven’t really started playing until today since GW1) and most importantly can hold some actual conversations about topics not just within the gaming industry, eg sports, education, research, maybe politics (Calmly!), etc.

Not hating on young gamers, I would just like some more intellectual stimulation while playing.

They kinda do with the Box O’ Fun. :P
Bobblehead fountain and Aviator’s boxes, too.

And good luck on that thesis! Been there, and I wish I had a cool topic like this when I was working on it.

I am currently studying for my exams (last year of undergrad) and will move on to post grad next year in Psychology, Not 100% sure what I’d do yet, I just found this very interesting and wanted to know more as well as how well it stands up in practice rather than in theory. I know I need a post grad qual to get work in the industry, yet still feel like I would like some more first hand experience/insight before doing research.

What did you do your thesis on?

Ok

So for those of you that don’t know what bartle’s taxonomy is:

It is basically a very old theory about why people play games, of which there are 4 over-arching categorizes: Social, Killer, Achiever, and Explorer. (For more information just google it).

Would you all mind posting below: why you play the game, what type you believe you are (Or if you think you are non of them/a mix), why you think this, and if you played guild wars 1 if you could please do the same for that. I am interested more in the mechanisms underlying each category (eg If you play to “achieve” is this the armour/weps/appearance/titles/recognition, if you are a social gamer what exactly is it about the social experience that draws you in such as the feeling that my team/guild need me).

Haw, omg, I was thinking of posting this after Extra Credits covered it. XD

We covered it in psychology recently and have just started moving into the more modern tests, which someone already posted (Brainhex). Very cool topic, and very interesting area of research, am thinking about focusing my post grad on it. That or health care psychology/marketing.

Your BrainHex Class is: Socialiser.
Your BrainHex Sub-Class is: Socialiser-Achiever.

You like hanging around with people you trust and helping people as well as collecting anything you can collect or doing everything you possibly can.

Interesting.

I read some of the neurological research as well, reminds me of the research on mental rotation taught to us last year in Cognitive Psychology. Very cool.

First most players only use heros to replace the empty slots not filled, or in some cases make the completion of the mission viable (eg adding monks= heros or necros).

I am not requesting the development of new unique content, simply for some skills to be changed back to how they use to work in PvE (to help encourage groups to form, as currently things like dungeons etc are often very difficult to teach to new players, especially UWsc/DoA/Fow).

The manipulation of drop rates would be a very easy fix and wouldn’t require a lot.

Yes, I am aware of Anet’s previous statements regarding this topic, however they also implied that Gw1 servers would be completely wiped, yet haven’t been. They have made it clear that the on going costs are a fraction of Gw2 so I can’t see any financial reason that this isn’t possible. Hell, if they want to why not start up a funding page, if enough people give then clearly there is enough potential profit to invest in Gw1.

Look at what Extra Credit achieved with their fund raising, you honestly think a company like NCsoft/Anet couldn’t generate 10-20-100 times that amount?

I find it very interesting that very few socially orientated given the nature of the game being a massive multiplayer. Obviously the sample size is far to small so more posts would be required, however it seems like A-net really hit the Explorer and Killer on the head. Achiever is probably the most difficult one to pull over in the modern games market given the number of titles which all have a reasonable strong achievement aspect.

I would be interested to see the results of a game wide test.

This seems stupid. To prevent any retrospective changes to a game that 1: Has a decent following, 2: Has an effect on Gw2, 3: Is still a great very unique game and could be enjoyed by a lot of people (MANY more than currently do) with some simply changes.

Going back to Bartle’s Taxonomy, GW1 hits a different type of player than Gw2 does, sure there is some overlap, however those who are Socially orientated (group based people) are negatively effected in Gw2 as there is no sense of commitment to other players in PvE (Every player is a solo act and has little need for others due to the “scaling”).

If a Dev or A-net player is reading this please consider my request carefully, it would have little impact on Gw2 sales (as most players are attracted to what other play, as well as things like graphics (cue salience) and therefore the proposed changes will make little difference to your market reach). Not to mention would spark a new generation of GW1 fans which then warrants a new expansion.

While your at it could you please play around with the drop rate (I have been gone from the game for over 3 years! and still get HORRIBLE drops on my ele simply because I use to solo farm to an extreme, clearly that character has been red-flagged). You know as well as I do your drop rate is based off some sort of schedule of reinforcement to keep people working towards a goal/reward so please increase the rate of reinforcement so players remaining get maximum enjoyment.
