I prefer a game that has a good selection of things that people can do that aren’t tied to tangible rewards or achievements. We don’t need a carrot for everything.
For a completionist like me, the achievements are less of a carrot and more of an easy way to find things I haven’t done / see what I’ve missed. It’s a lot easier to discover new things added to the game when you have an in-game list telling you which ones you have and haven’t found.
I saw in the recent AMA that devs don’t want to make an achievement for feeding hungry cats because they don’t want to put off achievement hunters who don’t want cats in their home instance.
I thought of a way to get around this problem. In the dialog during which you feed the cat, give players a choice whether or not to take the cat home. Basically, you feed the cat its preferred food, and then you get two options: “I think I’ll take you home with me” or something like “Pet the cat and walk away.” If you choose to take the cat home, it shows up in your home instance; if not, you still get the achievement but no cat in your house. Since the game remembers which cats you already fed, players could also be able to go back to the cat and take it home later if they change their mind.
This option works within the existing framework while avoiding difficult (or perhaps impossible) implementations like a toggle to hide or show cats in the home instance.
It is really hard, but not 100% impossible. I managed to solo the “finish this instance in under 20 minutes” achievement a few days ago with my ranger after 5 or 6 tries. Having a pet or other minions to draw aggro is really helpful. I did wonder about my kitten companions standing around like morons, now I understand. Hope Anet can fix that bug, it would really help.
I for one would love to see the storage caps raised, as I’m sure anyone who has whole bags – or even whole alts – reserved for storing bloodstone dust and empyreal fragments can attest to. Why can we only store 250 items? Why not 500? or 999?

Does anyone know if there are supposed to be “Current Events” achievements for the Magic Rifts? It seems odd that there aren’t any.
I’ll re-iterate a point I made in a different thread which is that if they could go back and add in a legendary journey for all the original weapons that didn’t have one (which afaik is what they did when HoT came out), they can hopefully do that for the new ones as well, at some point in the future when they are all out and people aren’t complaining about not having them.
We can always hope that some time in the future, they will retroactively add journey elements to the new legendaries. I love the journey elements but it may make the most sense for them to pump out the skins to placate all the people who just want them to exist in any form. Later, maybe they will have time to go back and add stories for each weapon, like they did with the original set.
I think it’s great that they will release the legendarys in this manner, as it will placate all the masses who just want those weapons out there regardless of story elements. For me, I really love the idea of the journey and would prefer it for all the weapons. Perhaps Anet will be able to retroactively create journeys for these weapons at a later time, during downtime between future LS seasons or expansion packs. If I recall correctly, the first series of legendary weapons came out without journeys and those were added in later on. I’ll hold out hope that eventually it will happen!
Please allow us to toggle on / off all pieces of armor, including shoes and shirt. Characters can’t be “naked,” there are already places like diving goggles and that beach in Southsun Cove where we take all our clothes off automatically, so it’s not like anyone will be indecent. And there are some rockin’ shirtless Charr NPCs. Right now my only option is to completely take my armor shirt off and run around legitimately shirtless. If I can do that, I should be able to do it while still actually wearing the armor.
What’s the point in being able to buy more than one of these? If you have one, it doesn’t go away after an Anomaly event. Am I missing something?
I’ve also stopped playing my ranger with sword, I just can’t make myself look at the vomitous Charr sword animation. I’ve tried several times but it doesn’t get any better. It used to be my favorite weapon – sad.
I just wanted to say that while I think the spring update is pretty fantastic, there is one thing I was disappointed by: the new sword animation.
I play a charr ranger and so I don’t know if the animation looks different for other races or classes. However, sword has been my favorite weapon since I started playing, simply because I felt like a complete bad-* with the flurry of rapid jumping and movement. I’m almost embarrassed by the new animation – it makes my character look very spastic, as though he’s just sort of hacking away there. The old animation had a sense of refinement and extreme skill on the part of the sword wielder, while the new animation feels like someone who just picked up a pointy thing and started flailing around with it.
In game, the sword is a great weapon in terms of stats and skills, but for me, watching what is happening on the screen is a big part of my enjoyment. Watching my charr hack away with his newfound sword animations has me seriously considering switching to a different weapon and never looking back.
Even though I have already unlocked Search and Rescue (ranger skill), it appears grayed out and I cannot select it for use. If I do click on it, it opens up that skill tree as if showing me that I need to unlock it, but you can see that it has already been unlocked there.
