Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

Actually I like the new interface. It’s great if you want to get one of the short, short list of amounts. It’s fine.

Now that I’ve covered the positive. Bring back some way to get a different amount. I happen to have 340 gems right now and I don’t want to have to buy 400 gems with gold to make a 500 gem purchase. When I wanted something that I wasn’t quite close to (like now) I would happily hit the gem store and buy gems with cash to support ANet. But this is just highway robbery.

All you need to do is add a custom field just like every ATM that ever was. Ok, you’ve put in the $40 $60 $100 fields, that’s fine. But add a row so I can deal with these small amounts of gems that get left over when I buy something that isn’t priced in 400 gem increments.

I cannot in any way imagine how this is an improvement as it stands.

Except perhaps for ArenaNet if they convince folks to buy 400 gems when all they want is 180.

I guess I’m not going to get my minis this Halloween. I’m very, very disappointed. Too bad this wasn’t announced so I could have bought them before now. Every time a change is made, I just feel like I’m being taken advantage of.

One more reason, along with unfortunately many others, to not play Guild Wars 2 anymore.

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

The changes to town clothes were basically as pathetic as I was afraid they would be. The colors used are dingy and dirty looking, which I find just astonishing from a company that claims to be as much about art as ArenaNet. I can’t imagine spending either real money or time spent in game (ie. game gold) to purchase either of the outfits I now have as tonics.

So, off to navigate the support area to get my gems back. Not that there’s anything in the shop worth buying this week. <sighs> I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished that the early promise that we would have access to all outfits seen on NPCs ingame was true.

I feel like ArenaNet decided to ditch the town clothes because they weren’t selling as well as hoped, when they never even put very many out to start with. Y’know, when all you’re selling is lemons and limes, you can’t blame all the folks who prefer apples, cherries, strawberries, canteloupe, watermelon, bananas, quinces, papaya, mango and pineapples for not liking fruit. If there had been a profusion of nice looking slacks, pants, skirts (long and short), shirts, hats, etc., I would likely have bought a bunch of ‘em. As it was, I found only two that I liked enough to spend money on. And now I want them to take those back because they’ve taken those away from me too.

Ok, the armor/weapon skins bit will be fine. I’d love to get some of the armor and weapons that I’ve been keeping just for the skins out of my bank.

But! Big, big but! I am aghast at the change to town clothes. Not surprised because apparently there isn’t a single solitary roleplayer at ArenaNet. Town clothes have been poor since day one and now they’re basically making them just awful. It took me forever to find a set that I liked since I hated the little flirty skirt that came with a human female and I do not want to look like a pirate or a chef. I want clothes that you wear in town, like all the other townspeople you see. I also remember that they said that there wouldn’t be any outfits in GW2 that characters couldn’t get. Well, that statement didn’t turn out to be true. And now this all or nothing garbage.

I was suspicious when they started making them all for the Costume Brawl, but then they made a few for folks like me who want to roleplay, not do silly games. But this is just… bad.

I loved this game when it came out. The town clothes had great potential. I liked the game play. The world was beautiful. Now.. I dunno. Game play has become dodge or die, which I loathe. I’m reading about the new changes to traits/runes/sigils/etc. and I don’t see that changing that dynamic at all. The art is still lovely, but I’ve seen the whole world many times over now and we seem to not be getting any more world. (Maybe when the living story fires up again) And between the Costume Brawl focus and this all or nothing mess, my lovely white shirt and riding pants and boots are going to be “use one at a time” endless potions? Yuck! That is not a solution. That’s more of an insult. More the fool me for buying them, I guess.

Nightmare Chambers not accessible

I tried to finish up the achievement for completing 10 Nightmare Chambers for The Nightmares Within and I can’t enter the Nightmare Chamber. I got an error “InstanceCreate failed. Error=42; Product=5; Module=18; Line=274”. I got the error message only on the first time I tried to enter the chamber, but I have tried repeatedly to enter it and can’t get in. And yes, it is the active chamber on this level (level 1).

I then went to the active chamber on level 2, which happened to be the one at the travel golem at the end of level 2/beginning of level 3, and that one is not functioning either.

Update: On the first one I encountered there was another player who also could not get in. On the second one, while I was composing this post, another player ran past me and into the chamber. I tried logging out and coming back in and got into the chamber. So, if this happens to you, try logging all the way out and trying again.

Billing Problems

in Account & Technical Support

I wonder if your problem is that your credit card is on too many accounts. I have a Guild Wars account, an NCSoft account (to purchase GuildWars 2, by the way) and a husband and two teenagers who also played GuildWars and now GuildWars 2. I have only three credit cards, all of which are shared with my husband.

I have been told by NCSoft that a credit card can only be on five accounts, which I had never heard before. So, when I bought stuff for me or my kids or my husband bought stuff for him or the kids, we never really paid attention to which card it got put on, because it never occurred to us that this would be restricted in this way. So, I currently have only one card that works on my GuildWars 2 account — not the one I prefer to use, by the way.

And now they don’t seem to take one of my credit cards (Discover) at all. So, we’re down to two for four people with twelve(!!!) accounts unless I want to open a new credit card or PayPal account just to play this game, which is absolutely ridiculous.
If this policy had been stated up front somewhere, I might have been able to work around it, but now I’m completely at a standstill. I have petitioned NCSoft and they told me:

“Once a credit card has been linked to an account, it is permanently tied to that account, regardless of whether the account is currently being used. It is not possible to remove this information, as your card is permanently linked to those accounts.

If you would like to make purchases on this account, you will need to either use a different credit card or a PayPal® account. If you have any further questions or concerns feel free to contact us once again."

Or in other words, too darn bad. Sorry, we can’t take your money.

Today my son wanted to buy some gems for his account. I can’t seem to help my son buy gems with any cards. And there isn’t any error code or message that I can see. I just enter my information and the “Confirm” button never lights up or can be used. So, I have no idea why I can’t buy gems for him. I just can’t.

This is the worst experience I’ve ever had with trying to buy something from a company that allegedly sells a product. And I go to Support and their response is pretty much “Tough beans. Go get another credit card.” Really not helpful in any way.

So, I really wish I could say that Support will work things out for you. But according to what they told me, they can’t or won’t if this is your problem.

I had this exact same problem. You have the hint displayed on your screen. Have you tried clicking the close button? When I finally did after ignoring it every single time it displayed, my hint achievement finally completed.

I also think that using hard content as a gateway to the rest of the Living Story content is a bad idea. Ok, hard dungeon is hard, I get that. My little group may never manage it. I don’t really have a problem with that, per se. But I likely will not get the meta or the cute mini-pet because I am not good with jumping puzzles like OS or with fights that involve jumping on crates under fire with beams bearing down on me.

It’s ok to have hard content, but when hard content is a barrier to finishing the Living Story content (you can’t question Mai Trin if you never capture her), then it’s kinda not the best planning to make an event that a reasonable amount of your playerbase will never see.

And I quit WoW because all their raids devolved into this kind of platformer Super Mario Brothers kind of boss fight. I’m not a platformer player and honestly if I were, I’d be playing a platformer locally not on a server a country away. I loved GW1 with its bosses that had skills that you could equip, with maybe a monster skill or two. I’d much rather build an appropriate bar than have to make precision jumps.

So, we’ve now had two platformer bosses in a row, Mai Trin and NULL. If that’s the way Living Story is going to be in GuildWars 2, I guess they just don’t want old gamers like me to be able to play.

AR dungeon = best experience in the game

My little guild group never could make it through Frizz. Ok, we’re not all the hot platformer dodge-everything leetness. That’s fine. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m really not good at jumping puzzles and in fact, what’s messing with me in AR is in some cases, just making the jumps onto the crates under fire while a beam is bearing down on me. But it’s supposed to be hard and it is. Ok, maybe we can’t complete this one.

What hacks me off is that since I can’t get through Frizz and I similarly can’t do OS, I’m now done with this event. I can’t proceed with the story. I can’t get the meta-achievement and the mini.

That’s what really stinks here. Hard content being hard is fine. Some folks really like that. But hard content keeping a large group of your player base from seeing everything else in the Living Story? What a fabulous idea…

Obsidian Sanctum for achievement, really? [merged]

I know! Let’s make a PvE Living Story meta-achievement that in order to get you either have to do one of the harder jumping puzzles in the game in combat or you have to do one of the hard dungeons people keep requesting which involves (at least on Frizz) precision jumping while in combat.

That’s a fantastic way to keep folks who are not PvP or jumping oriented from getting the cute mini! What a great idea! ’Cause all the folks who love minis must be platformer lovers.

Y’know, I’ve really really loved this game, but I’m not a PvPer nor a jumping enthusiast. I’ve never played a platform game in my life and really did not think that that was what GuildWars 2 was. If that’s all it’s going to be, I guess I might have to find another game. Or, since platformers seem to be the wave of the future (really?), I guess I’ll just go read a book.

TLDR: So, is all content going to be set for platformer folks now? Only those who can do Mario and jumping puzzles need apply for Living Story content?
