Scarlet is a good thing..

The devs have told us noumerous times that they have written an end for Scarlet. So now we will probably wait a maximum of 4(hopefully) months before she’ll be nothing more than history of tyria.

14 months to bring to an end an over-arching Living ‘Story’ that has done nothing but disappoint. Can’t believe its lasted a year.

Scarlet bringing us back to dragons?

Oh god. If Anet’s track record with Scarlet and Elder Dragons in the Living Story and Personal Story is any indication of the quality of what is to be expected then this could all just be another clusterkitten similar to how Scarlet’s involvement in the Living Story was.

Anyone not tired with the story?

Well the problem is that there was a sign in a blog post posted on Scarlet back in August, detailing her research and interest in thaumanovic devices, which ties her to the reactor quite descriptively. I put this information together back when they offered the fractals and decided that Scarlet would be involved in the fractal, course this was when it was Queens Jubilee and things looked somewhat promising. How wrong I was. Then again I voted for the Abaddon fractal, and now I just get to be disappointed that such an interesting fractal may never be released, and Scarlet is still a thing.

Lazy… Nuff said

Extremely kittening lazy. And to do it with three existing armors is kittening arrogant. The community being angry over a unique set of armor being offered as a better version for less on the gem store is extremely valid. But Anet has just made a statement about the fact that they arent above giving us reskins and then making us pay for them.

[Lore] Scarlet and the Reactor. It fits.

Well to be perfectly fair, in the blog post Scarlet was also mentioned having researched and interest in thaumanovic devices and such, so that does tie her into the reactor if only by description. Something that any player could have picked up by reading the blog post, and could have come to the conclusion that she’d be a part of it. Hell I came to that conclusion back when I read that blog post back in August and Anet was talking about releasing new fractals.

I think most people are just irritated that its just more Scarlet, and dont really care about how she ties into the lore. Honestly thats my stance on Scarlet. Really doesn’t change the fact that she is stupidly one-dimensional in-game, and any effort to create a more compelling character requires the effort of the player to sift through interviews, blog posts, and wikis.

[Merged] Cultural Human T3 Not Exclusive

There are alot of people here defending Anet’s actions, and the general consensus is that people are angry that Anet went and stuck a superior version of the t3 human cultural available on the gem store for less than what it costs for human cultural. This is an extremely valid concern, and I side vehemently with the people who have spent the time and effort to acquire said armor for their character. But there is a more important point to be made.

Anet just went and reskinned a current armor and put it on the gem store. Let’s look at what that means on several levels. First it means the armor was popular enough to merit the action, and profitable enough to merit charging actual money for it, thus creating the divide we see here. Secondly it means that Anet is not beyond adding a few frills to any popular armor (any cultural, or even potentially ascended when its released) set, sticking it on the gem store, and profiting from it. And lastly, and most importantly, that Anet has deliberately taken the lazy route. Purchasing this armor set is only condoning this extremely lazy, haphazard, and community dividing practice. Anet is essentially saying its not beneath them to just add a few frills to an existing armor and sticking it on the gem store to profit from it, but that if this practice turns out to be profitable it will essentially do it again. Just look at what they did with gem store gathering items. We had the soulbound variety go through two rotations on the gem store, and now we are finally getting the account bound versions. You either put your foot down now, or see this bullkitten happen again.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

Not necessarily something added to the gem store, but an improvement. The functionality to grab any skin purchased an unlimited amount of times. We already have this with Zenith, Hellfire, and Radiant Skins. And its not like Anet didn’t have this option in GW1. So what kittening gives?

This would be nice, but they really should add a feature for retrieving armor skins. My bank is getting bogged down, and i’ve accidentally salvaged pieces from sets i’ve already purchased and had pure hell trying to get them back. Not worth it unless they fix the functionality there.

Reusable gem store skins

clocksword.6052

It’s simple really. Give the skins you buy on the gem store the same functionality you get from the likes of Zenith, Hellfire, and Radiant weapon and armor skins. I mean you don’t worry if you accidentally salvage that Zenith or Radiant skin, because you have the functionality to reacquire it easily via the achievement panel. And if there should be a skin that you can retrieve an infinite number of times, it should be the ones you purchase from the gem store. It would help with the cluttering you might have in your bank, and allow you to use those skins on more than one character. Not to mention its not like Anet haven’t let Guild Wars players do that in the past. Why remove that functionality? Or maybe they have just put that functionality on the back burner for over a year? Either way I think its finally time to get around to finally putting it back in.

At least make the skins retrievable. I’ve already lost an entire skin and a partial skin to this awful system. The irony is that Anet used to be the paragon of awesomeness with the unlimited use skins in GW1, and here in GW2 they have decided to adopt a system that only serves to infuriate. Bring back the old skin system from GW1. Im not spending the same amount on a skin so I can get even less.

Re-obtainable skins from Gem Store

in Suggestions

Posted by: clocksword.6052

clocksword.6052

Enough is enough. I fail to see why players who purchase a skin from the Gem Store are not able to re-obtain the same skin an unlimited number of times. I have purchased a Magitech and Krytan set from the Gem Store before, and as of right now I only have one partial set due to an accidental salvage. The first time I accidentally salvaged a piece of my Krytan set I got fed up and just salvaged the entire set. Today I accidentally salvaged a piece of Magitech that I placed on a blue piece of armor. Unfortunately there is no system setup to confirm salvaging a gem store skin set, instead the game will happily allow you to salvage a set of armor you paid for explicitly with gems. To add further insult to injury I cannot re-obtain a full set, a logic which is beyond me.

In GW1 I explicitly remember being able to purchase an armor skin for $10 and re-obtaining it over and over again. It was a beautiful system. Why that system was scrapped for the current system in Guild Wars 2 defies rational. Especially considering you are spending the same amount for an armor skin in GW2 (800 gems = $10 with in-game gem purchase).

GW2 has been out for over a year now, and I know I am not the only person that experienced this issue. GW2 requires a way in which to recover skins you purchase off the Gem Store. As it stands right now I have spent $20 on armor skins that I cannot recover, and my urge to purchase other armor skins is compounded with the fact that I may lose another armor skin on accident. Please fix this Anet.

Gauntlet, full of bad game design decisions.

in Queen's Jubilee

Long post ahead!

TL;DR; version: Gauntlet has performance issues, camera issues, and the long wait between Gauntlets due to a long run and queue. All of this could have been fixed with an instance!

I want to be perfectly clear before I start this post. I really like the concept of Gauntlet. Hell I really like the bosses available. I have no problem with the mechanics that Liadri has available, or any other bosses. They make for interesting and tense fights.

What I have a problem with is how Gauntlet was implemented. The first thing that really increases the arbitrary difficulty of Gauntlet is where the Gauntlets take place. In an area over densely populated zone. When Queen’s Jubilee first launched this meant dealing with extremely low fps, and even now, with my graphic settings all the way down, I still have fps dips when there aren’t all that many people there. In an area where you are required to make split second decisions, any frame rate issues will disrupt your play.

Secondly, the actual Gauntlet area and how it influences the camera. While in the middle of the Gauntlet area your camera works as it should, but as soon as you get near the edges it begins to creep into an over the shoulder view that does nothing to help you keep track of the myriad of aoe attacks, and placement of enemies, which is absolutely critical. The best area to fight the second half of Liadri is in the corners of the gauntlet, but because of your location, determining the configuration of the figure eight aoe while dodging her and her shadows becomes increasingly frustrating due to camera issues.

Lastly, and equally important, is the fact that after you die in Gauntlet, if you don’t have anyone to res you, you end up spending copper in addition to running a long way back to the location just to initiate another Gauntlet. The nature of Gauntlet itself lends to quick battles, so naturally you would want to get back into the battle as quickly as possible, to apply what you’ve learned in new tactics. The fact that we end up spending a minute plus getting to and waiting the next battle can be extremely frustrating. For what may end up being a fight that ends in seconds, especially with some of the tier 3 battles.

Im sure it has been suggested by now, but all of these issues could have been alleviated with an instance. I understand the enjoyment and learning chance by watching Gauntlet, but letting you form parties and initiate the instance could allow a group to learn from each other as well as communicate strategies in an instance. Inside the instance they could have been placed on rotation for each match, and choose their challenger just as it is implemented now. In such an instance as well you could make it larger than the Gauntlet, as well as implementing a ‘soft’ barrier that wouldn’t interfere with the camera. Anything to denote that you cant traverse past that area while in battle, but not an object that would interfere with your camera angle. Because of the size of the area frame rate hiccups would be less likely, and population density would also be low. And matches would be quick in succession, except when you are in a team, there would be a wait, you would be able to hop instantly into the action again, or pause for a break instead of having to run back to an npc to get into a queue.

I really like the concept of Gauntlet, and I could see myself playing it again, if these issues get fixed. As it stands, as soon as I finish my achievements, I plan on never picking it up again. Even if it were to see rotation in the daily activities. Thank you for reading this long post!

[…]I am hugely disappointed with how the player is supposed to get the jade skins.

It seems like there is a very high demand for these skins, and unfortunately the people that do want the tickets have to settle for RNG to get the tickets.

And that’s the whole problem here. Why do you think someone have to get this skin? Just because he want it? That’s ridiculous.
Stop complaining about RNG…this is exact the same as random drop from mob! Or to be little closer to GW2 – Mystic Forge, where you have very small chance to get precursor…

Actually it’s not ridiculous, it’s perfectly natural to see something and want to acquire it through either work or tradable goods. It is far more ridiculous to dangle something in front of someones face and never give it to them no matter how much time or money they invest into acquiring it.

And while it is similar to the Mystic Forge, and dissimilar from mob drops, the problem is that you can’t work towards the item in question without relying on RNG. Any other item you can acquire from the Mystic Forge can be bought and purchased for a set price on the TP. These skins cannot be bought or acquired on the TP. And to be perfectly honest, I like these skins far more than many of what you can buy on the TP.

Bottom line is people are blaming Anet and the game and not realizing they are doing it to themselves. People play the lottery their ENTIRE adult life and never win the jackpot. It’s all luck. Could the drop rate be a little higher? Abso-freakin-lutely. Would it have been nice if the tickets were sellable? Of course, but they aren’t. I’m just so sick and tired of people whining and complaining about it. It’s not Anet fault, it’s all of you who don’t realize you have a gambling problem. “Man, I just bought 500 crates and didn’t get one? Crap, I mean, if I get another 500 I can’t possibly lose again.” After nothing again it turns into 500 more. The drop rate is kitten , if you buy up 1000 crates and don’t get anything, then stop. You tried and got screwed. Happens to us all. And it’s nothing new. Same thing next event, yet people will buy a million crates and get nothing by dolyak poop and complain about it.

Actually none of this has anything to do with a ‘gambling problem’. The problem is that the skins are highly desirably, well made, and people want them for their characters. Were it a gambling addiction then the people would be feeding the money that they won, which is nothing, back into the ‘machine’, and expecting a better monetary outcome. In this case there is no monetary outcome, its a skin that you get to permanently add to any character you have. It’s a finite thing. You don’t come back to it after you’ve gotten what you want. A gambling addiction is the opposite, you keep coming back no matter what gains you acquire.

And I do blame Anet for offering such desirable and well-made skins and not offering alternative methods to acquiring them besides RNG. It would have been the right choice. Either offering the skins on the gem store, or making the tickets tradable would be satisfactory.

So far i’ve open about 4.75k coffers and only got one ticket, and I received that ticket around the 1.75 mark. While im glad I at least got one ticket, I gotta say I am hugely disappointed with how the player is supposed to get the jade skins.

It seems like there is a very high demand for these skins, and unfortunately the people that do want the tickets have to settle for RNG to get the tickets. The problem though is that there are people who are not only spending their time, but also their money trying to get them. Thats how huge the demand is for the skins. On top of which the skins have no acquisition through the TP, and will soon be phased out for newer skins. Personally I find the skins to be of amazing quality and would like to see them in the regular rotation, but sadly that is to no avail. I have pretty much used all my gold buying coffers, and farm the coffers daily as well. I’ve lost track of the time and gold spent. It is an obscene amount of work and gold for little pay off. If I could have purchased the skins via the TP or gem store I would have.

Ultimately though this whole event has left a bad taste in my mouth. I will continue to farm coffers, because I still want said skins. But even Anet had to acknowledge how ludicrous it is for players to invest both time and wealth to acquire something and either get nothing, or hardly anything at all.

Dynamic Spawning

The title basically says it all. As a Guild Wars 2 player I tend to play the majority of the game solo. Admittedly that isn’t always the case due to people running around also doing their own thing, but when im not running around doing DE’s, hearts, or anything else with other players im doing my best to do content on my own. Most of the time I can get by pretty well, I like to think im a pretty good player but that’s neither here nor there. My problem specifically has to do when you are trying to do a specific objective and get hung up by repeatedly quick spawns of enemies. One example I want to bring into question is doing the skill point in the Plains of Ashford near the foefire. This skill point has a large group of enemies, many veterans as well, that do a good job of keeping a player away. I managed to get close enough twice within the large tower to killing all the enemies, but the spawn rate is what inevitably killed me.

Now I understand the argument that the game is meant to be played with others, but sometimes that just doesn’t happen or can happen for whatever reason. In my case I chose to try to do it on my own, and in the end had to resort to a group that was going in that direction. The problem is that I, and others, run into this frustrating road block far to frequently. Guild Wars 2 content may be made for groups, but it should also be viable for the solo player, and in many instances it is. It’s for that reason that I don’t think it’d be that hard for the company who made the awesome concept of dynamic events to devise a dynamic spawn system.

Admittedly i am not a programmer, but I would like to think that devising such a system wouldn’t be all that hard. At most it would entail checking the vicinity, trajectory, and amount of players in a single ‘sector’ and determining if the spawn rate should be changed based on the factors relative to the player(s) in the area. While also taking into account current spawns. Anyways I haven’t put that much though into it but I think something like this would greatly improve the game for the solo experience. And for tougher areas for a solo player you could even control spawn rates to keep difficulty controlled. Hell you could probably even control spawn rates based on how skillful a player is playing. Anyways just my nuts and bolts on the subject. And I want to leave a parting thought. If the game company that can forego the status quo of MMOs and make something as enjoyable and ground-breaking as GW2, then maybe its time they also do something about the most fundamental aspect of MMOs, spawning of enemies.

TL;DR; Spawn rates are infuriating in solo and only cause frustration for the player. A dynamic spawn system based around number of users in an area would be an amazing solution. Keep up the great work Anet!
